Boundary-condition independence of infinite-chain ground states in the $S=1$ $J$-$D$ antiferromagnetic chain

Abstract

Extending the analytic machinery and using the numerical inputs from OpenAI's proofs of the Haldane gap, we study infinite-chain ground states of the $S=1$ $J$-$D$ antiferromagnetic model $H=\sum_j\{\boldsymbol S_j\cdot\boldsymbol S_{j+1}+D(S_j^{\mathrm z})^2\}$ for sufficiently small $|D|$. We consider two finite-volume settings: periodic chains with an even number of sites, and open chains with an odd number of sites and the same positive magnetic field in the $\mathrm z$ direction at both endpoints. We prove that the ground states in each setting have an infinite-chain limit along the full sequence, without passing to a subsequence, and that the two limiting states coincide. Convergence is uniform in $D$ on a fixed neighborhood of zero. The common limit is a symmetric locally-unique gapped ground state, and its local expectation values depend continuously on $D$. These conclusions concern the two specified constructions, not uniqueness among all infinite-chain ground states. They provide the input for the study of a topological phase transition in a forthcoming revision of our companion paper. The author formulated the problem and proposed the basic strategy. ChatGPT Astra made substantial contributions to the inductive estimates and to completing the proof.

Existence of a third self-similar solution of the Yang--Mills equation in high odd dimensions

In a recent paper~\cite{BGW}, Bizoń, Glogić, and Wasserman (BGW) reduced the classification of smooth self-similar Yang--Mills profiles in odd spatial dimensions $d\ge11$ to an algebraic problem of counting roots of an explicit polynomial in a prescribed interval. Two roots correspond to explicit profiles. BGW conjectured that there is exactly one additional root and verified this in a range of odd dimensions. Here, we prove the existence of an additional root, and hence of a third smooth self-similar profile, in every odd dimension $d\geq11$. The proof combines an endpoint sign calculation for the resonance polynomial with an algebraic argument showing that the third root is distinct from the two explicit ones. Uniqueness remains open in general.

Pointwise decay of cumulants and scaling regimes of chaotic states

We consider nonequilibrium chaotic states of classical interacting particles in a family of scaling limits motivated by kinetic theory. The particle activity and the strength of the pair interaction are rescaled simultaneously, allowing for both dilute and non-dilute regimes. Using cluster expansion, we derive pointwise bounds for truncated correlation functions (cumulants) of arbitrary order. We cover stable finite-range interactions and repulsive Riesz potentials, including non-integrable tails in bounded macroscopic domains.

Ground State Energy of Dilute Fermi Gases in 1D

We study the one-dimensional spin-$J$ Fermi gas, interacting through a general repulsive 2-body potential, and prove asymptotics of the ground state energy in the dilute limit. The asymptotic behaviour is given in terms of the ground state energy of a spin chain, which is the Heisenberg antiferromagnet in the case of spin-1/2 fermions. We determine similar asymptotics for the Lieb-Liniger-Heisenberg model, showing that a product trial state used by Girardeau is not optimal.
