The ascending chain condition for radical well-mixed difference ideals

Abstract

We establish a finite-basis theorem for radical well-mixed difference ideals in a difference polynomial ring with one endomorphism over an arbitrary difference field. The result extends to every finitely difference-generated difference algebra over such a field and is equivalent to the ascending chain condition for radical well-mixed difference ideals, hence resolving a long-standing open problem in difference algebra. The proof proceeds in two stages. Over an inversive difference coefficient field, we establish a uniform inverse-transform bound relating the perfect closure of a finite system to its radical well-mixed closure. This uses Noetherian induction in a fixed truncated polynomial ring, together with generic freeness and going-down for flat ring homomorphisms. We then prove that the radical well-mixed closure of a system over a difference field $K$ is the contraction of its radical well-mixed closure over the inversive closure of $K$. This contraction result follows from successive prime lifting along flat extensions and removes the inversiveness assumption without requiring the coefficient-field extension to be finitely generated.

A Fitting criterion for quasi-Gorenstein local rings

We prove that a Noetherian local ring $R$ with canonical module $ω_R$ is quasi-Gorenstein if and only if $\Fitt_1^R(ω_R) \cong ω_R$. This settles the expectation of Eisenbud, Ficarra, Herzog, and Moradi on canonical ideals.

Multigraded Local Cohomology Categories: Homological Structure and Canonical Sources

Let $S=\kk[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ with its standard $\mathbb N^n$-grading, and let $\mathfrak m=(x_1,\ldots,x_n)$. We study the essential images of the functors $M\mapsto H^i_{\mathfrak m}(M(-\mathbf1))$ on categories of positively determined $S$-modules, where $\mathbf1=(1,\ldots,1)$. For a fixed determining bound $\mathbf t\in\mathbb N^n$ and $0\le i<n$, we identify the image in degree $i$ with the category of finite-dimensional representations of the subposet of $[\mathbf0,\mathbf t]$ consisting of multidegrees with at least $n-i$ positive coordinates. These images are Serre subcategories of the category of negatively $\mathbf t$-determined modules. The top-degree image consists precisely of second cosyzygies in that category and is extension-closed, but is not abelian when $\mathbf t\ne\mathbf0$. For the non-top image categories, we determine attached primes from projective covers and compute the Bass numbers at $\mathfrak m$ and the injective dimensions over $S$ of projective and injective objects. In every non-top degree, we construct an exact functorial section selecting, for each nonzero target, a source of minimal projective dimension $n-i$ and maximal depth $i$ among all its sources. If $n\ge2$ and $\mathbf t\ge\mathbf1$, no fully faithful section exists in degrees $1$ and $n-1$, even without requiring exactness. In top degree, graded Matlis duality followed by $S$-duality gives a fully faithful functorial section. We also describe the global images obtained by varying the determining bound. The non-top global categories have enough injectives and no nonzero projective objects, while the top category corresponds to second cosyzygies in the category of finite-support representations of $\mathbb N^n$.

Decomposition Theorem for Perfectoid Rings along General Ideals

Using André's lemma and the excision square for perfectoidization coming from $p$-complete arc descent, we prove new structural results about perfectoid rings and perfectoidization. The main result is a tameness theorem for torsion in perfectoid rings: if $R$ is a perfectoid ring and $I\subset R$ is an ideal, then the $I$-torsion in $R$ is $I_{\mathrm{perfd}}$-almost zero. This yields an excision-type decomposition of $R$ along its $I$-torsion part. We also study (semi)perfectoid rings and perfectoid ideals and take the opportunity to make some structural remarks about them.
