The focusing coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equation with parallel nonzero boundary conditions: long--time asmptotics

Abstract

We study the long-time behavior of solutions of the focusing coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations with parallel constant nonzero boundary conditions in the solitonless setting. We distinguish three types of asymptotic regions: plane-wave regions, modulated elliptic-wave regions, and Painlevé-II transition regions. In each region, we derive the leading asymptotic term and the first correction, together with explicit error bounds. Our results show that, although localized perturbations may have components both parallel and orthogonal to the background, the leading asymptotic term is always parallel to the background vector. In particularly, in the elliptic-wave regions, the leading order is given by a scalar modulated elliptic wave multiplying the background vector, while the component of the solution orthogonal to the background is \(O(t^{-1/2})\). This is consistent with the linear stability analysis: the background is modulationally unstable to parallel perturbations but stable to orthogonal perturbations. The proof is based on applying the Deift--Zhou nonlinear steepest-descent method, together with a \(G\)-function mechanism, to the associated \(3\times3\) Riemann--Hilbert problem.

GBDT with nontrivial seeds: explicit solutions of the focusing NLS equations and the corresponding Weyl functions

Our GBDT (generalised Bäcklund-Darboux transformation) approach is used to construct explicit solutions of the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation in the case of the exponential seed $a \exp\{2 i (cx +dt)\}$. The corresponding Baker-Akhiezer functions and evolution of the Weyl functions are obtained as well. In particular, the solutions, which appear in the study of rogue waves, step-like solutions and $N$-modulation solutions of the NLS equation are considered. This work is an essential development of our joint work with Rien Kaashoek and Israel Gohberg, where the seed was trivial, as well as several other of our previous works.

Spin generalizations of the classical elliptic Calogero--Inozemtsev model and integrable models of interacting tops associated with the $\rm{BC}_n$ root system

We construct Lax pairs with a spectral parameter for a family of models of interacting tops associated with the $\rm{BC}_n$ root system. The construction uses the parametric $\rm{BC}_n$ associative Yang--Baxter equations, which involve both quantum $R$-matrices and boundary $K$-matrices satisfying the reflection equation. Special cases yield spin generalizations of the elliptic Calogero--Inozemtsev model. We also show how quantum Hamiltonians of interacting tops, combined with the Polychronakos freezing prescription, reproduce recently introduced anisotropic quantum long-range spin chains of Haldane--Shastry--Inozemtsev type.

Restricted $K$- and $τ$-symmetries on multisoliton manifolds of the potential BKP and CKP equations

We investigate the reduction of generalized $K$-symmetries and $τ$-symmetries on the multisoliton manifolds of the potential BKP and CKP hierarchies. The $n$-soliton solution of BKP depends on wave-number parameters $k_m$, transverse parameters $l_m$, and phase parameters $ξ_{m0}$, defining a $3n$-dimensional manifold. Its restricted $K$-symmetries project onto an $n$-dimensional phase-shift subspace, while the restricted $τ$-symmetries engage the full $3n$-dimensional tangent space. This structure naturally yields a row-replacement determinant representation. In contrast, the $n$-soliton solution of CKP has no independent transverse parameters, reducing the manifold dimension to $2n$. The restricted $K$-symmetries again form an $n$-dimensional phase-shift representation, but the $τ$-symmetries now involve only $2n$ tangent directions. For CKP, the natural formulation treats elementary tangent symmetries as unknowns, producing a column-replacement determinant representation via Cramer's rule. The difference between these two determinant structures reflects not a difference in the underlying linear algebra, but rather the distinct parameterizations of the two soliton manifolds. Both formulas express explicitly how infinite-dimensional symmetry hierarchies collapse onto finite-dimensional multisoliton families.
