Non-linear contexts and dependent operads

Abstract

We study the category $\mathbf{Dep_{aff}}$ of finite posets and opfibrations between them, and prove that it is a perfect operator category in the sense of Barwick. Based on its additional properties, we propose a definition for a dependent operator category, and formulate a notion of dependent affine operad in a fibered way. In the particular case of $\mathbf{Dep_{aff}}$, we investigate the basic theory of such operads, establishing that the category of algebras for an operad is monadic over a canonical presheaf topos of "dependent sets". We finally extend this theory to a setting where we allow variable duplication, which we refer to as general dependent operads.

Monoidal structures on triangulated fibered categories

Let $\mathcal{S}$ be a small category admitting binary products. There exists a canonical dictionary expressing the structure and properties of monoidal $\mathcal{S}$-fibered categories in terms of the external tensor product in place of the usual internal tensor product. In this paper, we specialize this dictionary to the setting of triangulated $\mathcal{S}$-fibered categories, by studying how the general translation process interacts with shift functors. Our results provide a satisfactory abstract framework to study monoidal structures from the perspective of perverse sheaves.

Categorical Tiling Theory: Constructing Directed Planar Tilings via Edge Reversal

Tilings of the plane resemble the simplicial and other complexes from algebraic topology, but have not been studied from this perspective. We construct finite categories corresponding to polygons with labeled directed edges, and introduce the problem of modeling tilings of the Euclidean or hyperbolic plane as presheaves over such a category. Combinatorially, this amounts to choosing an ``alignment'' for a tiling: a direction for every edge and consistent labels for the edges of each polygonal tile. We show that for a fixed tiling, given a single alignment we can characterize every other alignment of the same tiling by comparison of the edge directions. We then construct a ``reflective'' alignment for any tiling with an even number of polygons at each vertex, and from this generate a large family of alignments with elegant symmetry properties.

Hyperstructures as complete atomic Boolean algebras

We show that several categories of hyperstructures, including the mosaics of Nakamura and Reyes and the hypergroups of Marty, are realizable as categories of objects with extra structure within the category of complete atomic Boolean algebras (CABAs) and atom-preserving morphisms.
