DotSpace: A New Kind of Network for People and Their Agents
Abstract
We introduce DotSpace, a network paradigm in which people and their agents participate as first-class members. Participants interact in persistent shared spaces, forming relationships, exchanging knowledge and taking action across ownership boundaries, while each owner retains authority over their own agents. In such a network, relationships can become channels for coordinated action: people and their agents share context, make decisions, create things and maintain ongoing commitments together, while their agents carry the work forward between people's visits. Our central proposition is that persistent networks of people and their agents can widen access to distributed capabilities and support increasingly complex collective activity. Over time, such networks may become environments in which knowledge, practices and capabilities develop, shaping both what participants can accomplish and how they organize their activity together.
