A semi-classical K.A.M. theorem

Abstract

We consider a semi-classical completely integrable system defined by a $\hbar$-pseudodifferential operator $\hat{H}$ on the torus $\mathbb{T}^{d}$. In order to study perturbed operators of the form $\hat{H}+\hbar^κ\hat{K}$, where $\hat{K}$ is an arbitrary pseudodifferential operator and $κ>0$, we prove the conjugacy to a suitable normal form. This is then used to construct a large number of quasimodes.

Trees that can be grown in "too many" ways: Bouch's construction and a bound for every size

We show that, for every positive integer $L$, there is a rooted tree on the square lattice that can be grown in at least $L!/C^L$ distinct ways, where $L$ denotes the number of bonds and $C>1$ is a constant independent of $L$. Bouch's hierarchical construction [Bouch2015] gives such trees along an unbounded sequence of sizes. We carefully review his construction and combine it with an elementary extraction lemma to obtain the bound for every size. (As discussed in Section~IV.A of [ParkerCaoAvdoshkinScaffidiAltman2019], Appendix~A.3 of [ShiraishiTasaki2024], and the video [TasakiVideo2025], the existence of such trees has an implication for operator growth and imaginary-time evolution in quantum spin systems in two or higher dimensions.) I wrote the first version of this note as a self-contained exposition of Bouch's construction. The stronger lower bound for every tree size presented here was proved by ChatGPT on the basis of that version (see the end of Section~1). I wish to make clear that I made no creative contribution to this beautiful and, I hope, useful theorem, whose proof is due to Bouch and ChatGPT.

Wall-crossing phenomenon for the liquid bin model

We introduce the liquid bin model as a continuous-time deterministic dynamics, arising as the hydrodynamic limit of a discrete-time stochastic interacting particle system called the infinite bin model. For the liquid bin model, we prove the existence and uniqueness of a stationary evolution, to which the dynamics converges exponentially fast. The speed of the front of the system is explicitly computed as a continuous piecewise rational function of the parameters of the model, revealing an underlying wall-crossing phenomenon. We show that the regions on which the speed is rational are of non-empty interior and are naturally indexed by Dyck paths. We provide a complete description of the adjacency structure of these regions, which generalizes the Stanley lattice for Dyck paths. Finally we point out an intriguing connection to the topic of extensions of partial cyclic orders to total cyclic orders.

Strong-coupling asymptotics for anisotropic Rabi model

The anisotropic quantum Rabi model provides a continuous interpolation between the quantum Rabi model and the Jaynes-Cummings model. In this paper, we study the norm-resolvent limit of the anisotropic quantum Rabi model as the coupling strength tends to infinity. After subtracting an explicit quadratic renormalization term, we identify the limiting Hamiltonian, which determines the asymptotic spectral structure of the model. Our result provides a unified description connecting the Jaynes-Cummings model and the full quantum Rabi model in the strong-coupling limit, thereby revealing the dominant role of the counter-rotating interaction.
