Conformally invariant Cotton and Bach tensor in N-dimensions

Abstract

This paper presents conformal invariants for Riemannian manifolds of dimension greater than or equal to four whose vanishing is necessary for a Riemannian manifold to be conformally related to an Einstein space. One of the invariants is a modification of the Cotton tensor, the other is a $n$--dimensional version of the Bach tensor. In general both tensors are smooth only on an open and dense subset of $M$, but this subset is invariant under conformal transformations. Moreover, we generalize the main result of "Conformal Einstein Spaces in $N$--Dimensions" published in \emph{Ann. Global Anal. Geom.} {\bf 20}(2) (2001).

A family of Kähler flying wing steady Ricci solitons

In $1996$, H.-D. Cao constructed a $U(n)$-invariant steady gradient Kähler-Ricci soliton on $\mathbb{C}^{n}$ and asked whether every steady gradient Kähler-Ricci soliton of positive curvature on $\mathbb{C}^{n}$ is necessarily $U(n)$-invariant (and hence unique up to scaling). Recently, Apostolov-Cifarelli answered this question in the negative for $n=2$. Here, we construct a family of $U(1)\times U(n-1)$-invariant, but not $U(n)$-invariant, complete steady gradient Kähler-Ricci solitons with strictly positive curvature operator on real $(1,\,1)$-forms (in particular, with strictly positive sectional curvature) on $\mathbb{C}^{n}$ for $n\geq3$, thereby answering Cao's question in the negative for $n\geq3$. This family of steady Ricci solitons interpolates between Cao's $U(n)$-invariant steady Kähler-Ricci soliton and the product of the cigar soliton and Cao's $U(n-1)$-invariant steady Kähler-Ricci soliton. This provides the Kähler analog of the Riemannian flying wings construction of Lai. In the process of the proof, we also demonstrate that the almost diameter rigidity of $\mathbb{P}^{n}$ endowed with the Fubini-Study metric does not hold even if the curvature operator is bounded below by $2$ on real $(1,\,1)$-forms.

A low-regularity Riemannian positive mass theorem for non-spin manifolds with distributional curvature

This article establishes a low-regularity Riemannian positive mass theorem for non-spin manifolds whose metrics are only $C^0 \cap W_{\mathrm{loc}}^{1,n}$ and smooth outside a compact set. The main theorem asserts that asymptotically flat manifolds with nonnegative distributional scalar curvature have nonnegative ADM mass. The proof uses smooth approximations of the metric together with a Sobolev version of Friedrichs' Lemma, which yields improved convergence for commutators between differentiation and convolution operators. Rigidity in the metric-space sense is obtained via the volume comparison theory of $\sf{RCD}$-spaces after establishing that zero ADM mass implies Ricci flatness, which fundamentally relies on these improved estimates. In essence, a version of the main theorem of Lee-LeFloch is presented in which the spin condition is removed under the assumption that the metric is smooth outside a compact set.

Busemann-coupling subdifferentials and Fenchel biconjugation on Hadamard manifolds

We introduce an intrinsic subdifferential on Hadamard manifolds induced by a base-point-dependent Busemann coupling, motivated by the scarcity of nonconstant affine functions on non-Euclidean Hadamard manifolds. For proper functions, it characterizes exactly the primal-dual equality pairs in the Fenchel-Young inequality of Bento, Cruz Neto, and Melo (\emph{Appl. Math. Optim.} 88:83, 2023). A dual-point--tangent-vector bijection yields Fermat's rule and isometry covariance. We characterize everywhere nonemptiness for finite-valued functions by pointwise-attained \(H_p\)-envelope representations, encompassing the radial models with explicit subdifferentials and the nonsmooth distance from the base point. In hyperbolic space, base-point rigidity shows that, for functions differentiable at the base point, nonemptiness is equivalent to global minimality and vanishing of the corresponding Fenchel-Young gap. Two geodesically convex functions on the Poincaré disk prove strict noninclusions between our construction and fixed-direction Busemann subdifferentials, although both recover the classical Euclidean subdifferential. This separation is explained by coupling orientation. In constant negative curvature, a strictly increasing scalar profile describes the asymmetry and defines an intrinsic measure of nonlinearity. We compute this measure at arbitrary radius and derive a lower bound and two-sided estimates for the biconjugation gap; at unit radius, the exact curvature-dependent bound is attained by deviations of both signs.
