Contact formulas for rational plane curves via stable maps

Abstract

We use stable maps, and their stable lifts to the Semple bundle variety of second-order curvilinear data, to calculate certain characteristic numbers for rational plane curves. These characteristic numbers involve first-order (tangency) and second-order (inflectional) conditions. Although they may be virtual, they may be used as inputs in an enumeratively significant formula for the number of rational curves having a triple contact with a specified plane curve and passing through 3d-3 general points.

Theta classes: generalized topological recursion, integrability and $\mathcal{W}$-constraints

We study the intersection theory of the $Θ^{r,s}$-classes, where $r \geq 2$ and $1 \le s \le r-1$, which are cohomological field theories obtained as the top degrees of Chiodo classes. We show that the recently introduced generalized topological recursion on the $(r,s)$ spectral curves computes the descendant integrals of the $Θ^{r,s}$-classes. As a consequence, we deduce that the descendant potential of the $Θ^{r,s}$-classes is a tau function of the $r$-KdV hierarchy, generalizing the Brézin--Gross--Witten tau function (the special case $r=2$, $s=1$). We also explicitly compute the $\mathcal{W}$-constraints satisfied by the descendant potential, obtained as differential representations of the $\mathcal{W}(\mathfrak{gl}_r)$-algebra at self-dual level. This work extends previously known results on the Witten $r$-spin class, the $r$-spin $Θ$-classes (the case $s=r-1$), and the Norbury $Θ$-classes (the special case $r=2$, $s=1$).

CM-line bundles and slope $\K$-semistability for big and nef line bundles along subschemes

We apply the theory of the Chow-Mumford line bundle as developed by Arezzo-et-al and build on earlier key insights of Paul and Tian (see \cite{Arezzo:DellaVedova:LaNave} and the references therein). In particular, we give an explicit intersection theoretic description of the Donaldson-Futaki $\K$-stability invariants that arise via deformation to the normal cones along subschemes and with respect to big and nef line bundles on projective varieties. In doing so we generalize to the case of big and nef line bundles the slope stability theory of Ross and Thomas \cite[Section 4]{Ross:Thomas:2006}. A key point to what we do here is the continuity property of the Chow Mumford line bundles with respect to the ample cones of projective varieties.

Stability Conditions for Multigraded Rings

Let $D$ be a finitely generated abelian group and $S$ a $D$-graded ring. We introduce a geometric semistability condition for points $x \in \text{Spec}(S)$, characterized by maximal-dimensional orbit cones $σ(x)$. This set of geometrically semistable points $X^{\mathrm{gss}}$ yields a new framework for the $D$-graded Proj construction, which is equivalently given as the geometric quotient of $D(S_+) = \text{Spec}(S) \setminus V(S_+)$ by the torus $\text{Spec}(S_0[D])$, where $S_+ \unlhd S$ is the ideal generated by all relevant elements. We show that orbit cones are unions of relevant cones $\mathcal C_D(f)$. This yields a chamber decomposition of the weight space $σ(S) = \overline{\text{Cone}}(d \in D \mid S_d \neq 0)$, determined entirely by relevant elements. In particular, we obtain $\text{Proj}^D(S) = X^{\mathrm{gss}} / \text{Spec}(S_0[D])$. As an application, for a simplicial toric (pre-)variety $X$ with full-dimensional convex support and $S = \text{Cox}(X)$, this chamber decomposition of its weight space recovers the secondary fan of $X$. Consequently, when $d \in D = \text{Cl}(X)$, the space $\text{Proj}^D(S)$ is exactly the direct limit of all GIT quotients $\mathbb A^n //_{χ^d} \text{Spec}(S_0[D])$ of $X$.
