Hadronic contributions to $a_\mu$ within Resonance Chiral Theory

We review the recent progress achieved, using Resonance Chiral Theory, in the hadronic contributions to the muon anomalous magnetic moment. These include the hadronic vacuum polarization, either using $e^+e^-$ or $\tau$ decays into hadron final states as input; and the hadronic light-by-light part, where in addition to previous results on the lightest pseudoscalar and tensor-poles contributions, we first present the evaluation of the pseudoscalar box using this formalism. We also discuss the scalar, axial-pole and other subleading pieces. The results obtained are consistent with the White Paper 2 values, with comparable precision.

Compatibility between $e^+e^-$ and $\tau$ decay data in the di-pion channel and implications for $a_\mu^\mathrm{SM}$ and CVC tests

We have revisited the isospin-breaking corrections relating $\sigma(e^+e^-\to\pi^+\pi^-)$ and $\Gamma(\tau^-\to\pi^-\pi^0\nu_\tau)$. We confirm that the associated uncertainty is under control, so that tau data can also be used to predict accurately the leading hadronic contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment and precision conserved vector current tests can be carried out.

Hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the muon g-2 on Euclidean windows from tau data

We computed for the first time the $\tau$ data-driven Euclidean windows for the hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the muon g-2. We showed that $\tau$-based results agree with the available lattice window evaluations and with the full result. On the intermediate window, where all lattice evaluations are rather precise and agree, $\tau$-based results are compatible with them. This is particularly interesting, given that the disagreement of the $e^+e^-$ data-driven result with the lattice values in this window is the main cause for their discrepancy, affecting the interpretation of the $a_\mu$ measurement in terms of possible new physics.

Isospin breaking corrections in $2\pi$ production in tau decays and $e^+e^-$ annihilation: consequences for the muon $g-2$ and CVC tests

We revisit the isospin-breaking corrections relating the $e^+e^-$ hadronic cross-section and the tau decay spectral function, focusing on the di-pion channel, that gives the dominant contribution to the hadronic vacuum polarization piece of the muon $g-2$. We test different types of electromagnetic and weak form factors and show that both, the Gounaris-Sakurai and a dispersive-based approach, describe accurately $\tau$ lepton and $e^+e^-$ data (less when KLOE measurements are included in the fits) and comply reasonably well with analyticity constraints. From these results we obtain the isospin-breaking contribution to the conserved vector current (CVC) prediction of the ${\rm BR}(\tau \to \pi\pi\nu_{\tau})$ and to the $2\pi$ hadronic vacuum polarization (HVP) contribution to the muon $g-2$, in agreement with previous determinations and with similar precision. Our results abound in the convenience of using tau data-based results in the updated data-driven prediction of the muon $g-2$ in the Standard Model.

Tau Data-Based Evaluations of the hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the muon $g-2$

We review the tau data-driven computation of Euclidean windows for the hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment (a_mu), which agree with the lattice results, making the difference of the $e^+e^-$ data-driven methods with them more intriguing. This conundrum needs to be solved by next year, when the final FNAL a_mu measurement will be published, in order to extract firm conclusions on possible new physics effects.

Two Scalable Approaches for Burned-Area Mapping Using U-Net and Landsat Imagery

Monitoring wildfires is an essential step in minimizing their impact on the planet, understanding the many negative environmental, economic, and social consequences. Recent advances in remote sensing technology combined with the increasing application of artificial intelligence methods have improved real-time, high-resolution fire monitoring. This study explores two proposed approaches based on the U-Net model for automating and optimizing the burned-area mapping process. Denoted 128 and AllSizes (AS), they are trained on datasets with a different class balance by cropping input images to different sizes. They are then applied to Landsat imagery and time-series data from two fire-prone regions in Chile. The results obtained after enhancement of model performance by hyperparameter optimization demonstrate the effectiveness of both approaches. Tests based on 195 representative images of the study area show that increasing dataset balance using the AS model yields better performance. More specifically, AS exhibited a Dice Coefficient (DC) of 0.93, an Omission Error (OE) of 0.086, and a Commission Error (CE) of 0.045, while the 128 model achieved a DC of 0.86, an OE of 0.12, and a CE of 0.12. These findings should provide a basis for further development of scalable automatic burned-area mapping tools.

Tau data-driven evaluation of the Hadronic Vacuum Polarization

Windows in Euclidean time have become a standard tool for comparing lattice QCD and data-driven computations of the hadronic vacuum polarization (HVP) contribution to the muon $g-2$. Here we review our results, obtained using isospin-rotated $\tau^-\to\pi^-\pi^0\nu_\tau$ data instead of $e^+e^-\to\pi^+\pi^-$ measurements, and compare them to other approaches. Consistency of the tau-based and lattice results hints to underestimated uncertainties in the $e^+e^-$ data. If that is the case, the theory prediction of the muon $g-2$ would only lie at $\sim 2\sigma$ from its measured value.

$\tau$ data-driven evaluation of Euclidean windows for the hadronic vacuum polarization

We compute for the first time the $\tau$ data-driven Euclidean windows for the hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the muon $g-2$. We show that $\tau$-based results agree with the available lattice window evaluations and with the full result. On the intermediate window, where all lattice evaluations are rather precise and agree, $\tau$-based results are compatible with them. Radiative corrections to the $\tau^-\to (P_1P_2)^-\nu_\tau$ ($P_{1,2}=\pi, K$) decays

The radiative corrections to the $\tau^-\to (P_1P_2)^-\nu_\tau$ ($P_{1,2}=\pi, K$) decays are calculated for the first time including the structure-dependent real photon corrections, which are obtained using Resonance Chiral Theory. Our results, whose uncertainty is dominated by the model-dependence of the resummation of the radiative corrections and the missing virtual structure-dependent contributions, allow for precise tests of CKM unitarity, lepton flavour universality and non-standard interactions.

Axial-vector exchange contribution to the Hyperfine Splitting

We revisit the contribution of axial-vector mesons to the hyperfine splitting of muonic hydrogen. We focus our attention on the doubly-virtual asymptotic behavior of the relevant form factors of axial-vector mesons, together with their coupling to nucleons based on resonance saturation and short-distance constraints. Among others, we find significant differences with respect to previous studies, including an opposite sign and a $\sim50\%$ effect of the doubly-virtual high-energy behavior.

Exclusive hadronic tau decays as probes of non-SM interactions

We perform a global analysis of exclusive hadronic tau decays into one and two mesons using the low-energy limit of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory up to dimension six, assuming left-handed neutrinos. A controlled theoretical input on the Standard Model hadronic form factors, based on chiral symmetry, dispersion relations, data and asymptotic QCD properties, has allowed us to set bounds on the New Physics effective couplings using the present experimental data. Our results highlight the importance of semileptonic $\tau$ decays in complementing the traditional low-energy probes, such nuclear $\beta$ decays or semileptonic pion and kaon decays, and the high-energy measurements at LHC scales. This makes yet another reason for considering hadronic tau decays as golden modes at Belle-II.

Effective-field theory analysis of the $\tau^{-}\to K^{-}(\eta^{(\prime)},K^{0}) \nu_{\tau}$ decays

We analyze the decays $\tau^-\to K^-(\eta^{(\prime)},K^0) \nu_\tau$ within an effective field theory that includes the most general interactions between Standard Model fields up to dimension six, assuming left-handed neutrinos. In particular, we examine different interesting phenomenological observables i.e. decay spectra and branching ratio, Dalitz plot distributions and the forward-backward asymmetry, to explore the sensitivity of the corresponding decays to the effects of non-standard interactions. A controlled theoretical input on the Standard Model hadronic form factors, based on chiral symmetry, dispersion relations, data and asymptotic QCD properties, has allowed us to set bounds on the New Physics scalar and tensor effective couplings using the measured branching ratios. These are found to be in line with the findings of our series of previous analyses of two-meson tau decays and less precise than the constraints obtained from semileptonic kaon decays. In order to set stringent limits on these couplings, we will use all available experimental data of all possible di-meson tau decays. This is our next step plan, that we hope to be of interest for future experimental analyses of these decays.
