The giant graviton expansion in AdS$_5\times$SE$_5$

We study giant graviton-like D3-branes as probe configurations in type IIB supergravity backgrounds AdS$_5\times$SE$_5$, with emphasis on the structure of the five-dimensional Sasaki-Einstein manifolds SE$_5$. These configurations wrap supersymmetric three-cycles in SE$_5$ and rotate at the speed of light along the Reeb direction. We formulate the general problem in terms of the transverse K\"ahler potential and show that configurations carrying maximal angular momentum can be described by loci where the transverse K\"ahler potential diverges in suitably chosen coordinates. We quantize a particular set of excitations, similar to those considered in the AdS$_5\times S^5$ case, and show that they are governed by a Fock-Darwin problem with a conical deficit, which generalizes the Landau problem obtained for $S^5$. Succinctly, the information about the geometry of SE$_5$ is encoded in the form of the external potential and the conical deficit. We compute a protected contribution to the superconformal index arising from quantized fluctuations of supersymmetric giant graviton configurations. For the explicit case of AdS$_5\times T^{1,1}$, we recover the finite-$N$ protected index of the dual quiver ${\cal N}=1$ superconformal field theory in the sector captured by a non-Abelian generalization of the quantized degrees of freedom.

Localisation of $\mathcal{N} = (2,2)$ theories on spindles of both twists

We consider two-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ supersymmetric field theories living on a spindle $\mathbb{WCP}_{[n_1,n_2]}^1$. Starting from the spindle solutions of five-dimensional STU gauged supergravity, we construct theories on a spindle which preserve supersymmetry via either the twist or anti-twist mechanism and admit two Killing spinors of opposite R-charge. While the study of field theories on anti-twisted spindles has already been undertaken in some detail, the advantage of our approach allows for the derivation of analogous results in the twist case. We apply the technique of supersymmetric localisation to compute the exact partition function for a theory consisting of an abelian vector multiplet and a charged chiral multiplet in the presence of a Fayet-Iliopoulos term. We compare and contrast the results for the twisted and anti-twisted spindle and find a general formula which encompasses the partition function for both cases simultaneously.

Supersymmetric localisation of $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ theories on a spindle

We consider two-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ supersymmetric field theories living on a weighted projective space $\mathbb{WCP}_{[n_1,n_2]}^1$, often referred to as a spindle. Starting from the spindle solution of five-dimensional minimal gauged supergravity, we construct a theory on a spindle which preserves supersymmetry via the anti-twist mechanism and admits two Killing spinors of opposite $R$-charge. We apply the technique of supersymmetric localisation to compute the exact partition function for a theory consisting of an abelian vector multiplet and a chiral multiplet, finding that the path integral localises to a real moduli space of vector multiplet fluctuations. We compute the one-loop determinants via the equivariant index, using both the method of unpaired eigenvalues and the fixed point theorem, finding agreement between the two approaches. We conclude with the explicit partition function for an example of a charged chiral multiplet in the presence of a Fayet-Iliopoulos term and comment on its dependence on the overall length scale of the geometry. This work paves the way towards uncovering two-dimensional dualities, such as mirror symmetry, for field theories defined on orbifold backgrounds.

Logarithmic corrections to near-extremal entropy of charged de Sitter black holes

We calculate the logarithmic temperature corrections to the thermodynamic entropy of four-dimensional near-extremal Reissner-Nordstr\"{o}m de Sitter (dS) black hole by computing a one-loop contribution within the path integral framework in the near-horizon limit. Due to the presence of three horizons, the extremal limit of a charged dS black hole is fundamentally different from its flat and AdS counterparts. In the near-horizon limit, there are three distinct extremal limits known as cold, Nariai, and ultracold configurations. We compute the tensor zero modes of the Lichnerowicz operator acting on linearized metric perturbations for the cold and Nariai extremal limits which are associated with near-horizon AdS$_2$ and dS$_2$ asymptotic symmetries. In particular in the near-Nariai limit we compute the quantum corrections to the Hartle-Hawking wavefunction at late times. Our computation establishes the result that at leading order, the small temperature corrections to the extremal entropy is universal in the cold and Nariai limit, paving the way for similar such computations and tests in higher dimensional dS black hole spacetimes, including rotating dS black holes.

Supersymmetric spectrum for vector multiplet on Euclidean AdS$_2$

Quantum study of supersymmetric theories on Euclidean two dimensional anti-de Sitter space (EAdS$_2$) requires complexified spectrum. For a chiral multiplet, we showed that the spectrum of the Dirac operator acquires a universal shift of $\text{i}/2$ from the real spectrum to make the supersymmetry between boson and fermion manifest, where both the bosonic and fermionic eigenfunctions are normalizable using an appropriate definition of Euclidean inner product. We extend this analysis to the vector multiplet, where we show that the gaugino requires both $+\text{i}/2$ and $-\text{i}/2$ shift from the real spectrum, and there is additional isolated point at vanishing spectral parameter which is mapped by supersymmetry to the boundary zero modes of the vector field. Furthermore, this spectral analysis shows that not every bosonic fields in the vector multiplet can satisfy normalizable boundary condition. Nevertheless, aided by a reorganization of fields into a cohomological form, we find the supersymmetry mapping between bosons and fermions in terms of the expansion coefficients with respect to the newly constructed basis.

Universality in Logarithmic Temperature Corrections to Near-Extremal Rotating Black Hole Thermodynamics in Various Dimensions

The low-temperature thermodynamics of near-extremal rotating black holes has recently been revisited to incorporate one-loop contributions that are dominant in this regime. We discuss these quantum corrections to the gravitational path integral for asymptotically Anti de-Sitter black holes in four and five dimensions. In four dimensions we explicitly consider Kerr-AdS$_4$, Kerr-Newman-AdS$_4$ and the rotating black hole in ${\cal N}=4$ gauged supergravity with two scalars and two electric charges turned on. In five dimensions we explicitly address the asymptotically flat Myers-Perry black hole and the Kerr-AdS$_5$ black hole. In every case we find that tensor modes contribute $\frac{3}{2} \log T_{\rm Hawking}$ to the low-temperature thermodynamics. We identify the root cause of this universality in two facts: (i) the universal presence of a $SL(2,\mathbb{R})$ subgroup of isometries in the near-horizon geometry and (ii) a set of cancellations in the Lichnerowicz operator. We show that these two conditions hold for near-extremal black holes in asymptotically flat and asymptotically AdS spacetimes of various dimensions.

One-Loop Quantum Effects in Carroll Scalars

Carrollian field theories at the classical level possess an infinite number of space-time symmetries, namely the supertranslations. In this article, we inquire whether these symmetries for interacting Carrollian scalar field theory survive in the presence of quantum effects. For interactions polynomial in the field, the answer is in the affirmative. We also study a renormalization group flow particularly tailored to respect the manifest Carroll invariance and analyze the consequences of introducing Carroll-breaking deformations. The renormalization group flow, with perturbative loop-level effects taken into account, indicates a new fixed point apart from the Gaussian ones.

Supersymmetry and complexified spectrum on Euclidean AdS$_2$

Quantum study of supersymmetric theories on Euclidean two dimensional anti-de Sitter space (AdS$_2$) is invalid if we use the standard normalizable functional basis due to its incompatibility with supersymmetry. We cure this problem by demonstrating that supersymmetry requires complexified spectrum and constructing the supersymmetric basis for scalar and spinor fields. Our new basis is free of fermionic zero modes, delta-function normalizable with respect to a newly defined inner product, and compatible with the supersymmetric asymptotic boundary condition. We also explore the one-loop evaluation using this basis and show that it agrees with the standard nonsupersymmetric basis up to a global contribution arising from the fermion zero mode.

Supersymmetric localization: ${\cal N}=(2,2)$ theories on S$^2$ and AdS$_2$

Application of the supersymmetric localization method to theories on anti-de Sitter spacetime has received recent interest, yet still remains as a challenging problem. In this paper, we focus on (global) Euclidean AdS$_2$, on which we consider an Abelian ${\cal N}=(2,2)$ theory and implement localization computation to obtain the exact partition function. For comparison, we also revisit the theory on S$^2$ and perform a parallel computation. We refine the notion of equivariant supersymmetry and use appropriate functional integration measure. For AdS$_2$ we choose a supersymmetric boundary condition which is compatible with the principle of variation. To evaluate the 1-loop determinant about the localization saddle, we use index theory and fixed point formula, where we pay attention to the effect of zero modes and their superpartners. The existence of fermionic superpartner of 1-form boundary zero modes is proven. Obtaining the 1-loop determinant requires expansion of the index that presents an ambiguity, which we resolve using boundary condition. The resulting partition function reveals an overall dependence on the size of the background manifold, AdS$_2$ as well as S$^2$, as a sum of two types of contributions: a local one from local conformal anomaly through the index computation and a global one coming from zero modes. This overall size dependence is confirmed by the perturbative 1-loop evaluation using heat kernel method.

Supersymmetric Graphene on Squashed Hemisphere

We compute the partition function of $\mathcal N=2$ supersymmetric mixed dimensional QED on a squashed hemisphere using localization. Mixed dimensional QED is an abelian gauge theory coupled to charged matter fields at the boundary. The partition function is a function of the complex gauge coupling $\tau$, the choice of R-symmetry and the squashing deformation. The superconformal R-symmetry is determined using the 3-dimensional F-maximization. The free energy as a function of squashing deformation allows computing correlation functions that contain the insertion of the energy-momentum tensor. We compute the 2-point correlation function of the boundary energy-momentum tensor by differentiating the free energy with respect to the squashing parameter. We comment on the behaviour of the 2-point function as we change the complex coupling $\tau$.

Supersymmetric Localization on dS: Sum over topologies

We find the exact quantum gravity partition function on the static patch of 3d de Sitter spacetime. We have worked in the Chern Simons Formulation of 3d Gravity. To obtain a non-perturbative result, we supersymmetrized the Chern Simons action and used the technique of supersymmetric localization. We have obtained an exact non-perturbative result for the spin-2 gravity case. We comment on the divergences present in the theory. We also comment on higher spin gravity theories and analyse the nature of divergences present in such theories.

3d $\mathcal{N}=2$ $\widehat{ADE}$ Chern-Simons Quivers

We study 3d $\mathcal{N}=2$ Chern-Simons (CS) quiver theories on $S^3$ and ${\Sigma}_{\mathfrak{g}}\times S^1$. Using localization results, we examine their partition functions in the large rank limit and requiring the resulting matrix models to be local, find a large class of quiver theories that include quivers in one-to-one correspondence with the $\widehat{ADE}$ Dynkin diagrams. We compute explicitly the partition function on $S^3$ for $\widehat{D}$ quivers and that on ${\Sigma}_{\mathfrak{g}}\times S^1$ for $\widehat{AD}$ quivers, which lead to certain predictions for their holographic duals. We also provide a new and simple proof of the "index theorem", extending its applicability to a larger class of theories than considered before in the literature.

Scale invariance with fundamental matters and anomaly: A holographic description

Generally, quantum field theories can be thought as deformations away from conformal field theories. In this article, with a simple bottom up model assumed to possess a holographic description, we study a putative large N quantum field theory with large and arbitrary number of adjoint and fundamental degrees of freedom and a non-vanishing chiral anomaly, in the presence of an external magnetic field and with a non-vanishing density. Motivated by the richness of quantum chromodynamics under similar condition, we explore the solution space to find an infinite class of scale-invariant, but not conformal, field theories that may play a pivotal role in defining the corresponding physics. In particular, we find two classes of geometries: Schrodinger isometric and warped AdS_3 geometries with an SL(2,R) X U(1) isometry. We find hints of spontaneous breaking of translational symmetry, at low temperatures, around the warped backgrounds.
