Word Frequency Counting Based on Serverless MapReduce

With the increasing demand for high-performance and high-efficiency computing, cloud computing, especially serverless computing, has gradually become a research hotspot in recent years, attracting numerous research attention. Meanwhile, MapReduce, which is a popular big data processing model in the industry, has been widely applied in various fields. Inspired by the serverless framework of Function as a Service and the high concurrency and robustness of MapReduce programming model, this paper focus on combining them to reduce the time span and increase the efficiency when executing the word frequency counting task. In this case, the paper use a MapReduce programming model based on a serverless computing platform to figure out the most optimized number of Map functions and Reduce functions for a particular task. For the same amount of workload, extensive experiments show both execution time reduces and the overall efficiency of the program improves at different rates as the number of map functions and reduce functions increases. This paper suppose the discovery of the most optimized number of map and reduce functions can help cooperations and programmers figure out the most optimized solutions.

Pattern based learning and optimisation through pricing for bin packing problem

As a popular form of knowledge and experience, patterns and their identification have been critical tasks in most data mining applications. However, as far as we are aware, no study has systematically examined the dynamics of pattern values and their reuse under varying conditions. We argue that when problem conditions such as the distributions of random variables change, the patterns that performed well in previous circumstances may become less effective and adoption of these patterns would result in sub-optimal solutions. In response, we make a connection between data mining and the duality theory in operations research and propose a novel scheme to efficiently identify patterns and dynamically quantify their values for each specific condition. Our method quantifies the value of patterns based on their ability to satisfy stochastic constraints and their effects on the objective value, allowing high-quality patterns and their combinations to be detected. We use the online bin packing problem to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme and illustrate the online packing procedure with the guidance of patterns that address the inherent uncertainty of the problem. Results show that the proposed algorithm significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art methods. We also analysed in detail the distinctive features of the proposed methods that lead to performance improvement and the special cases where our method can be further improved.

Archimedean Non-vanishing, Cohomological Test Vectors, and Standard $L$-functions of $\mathrm{GL}_{2n}$: Complex Case

The purpose of this paper is to study the local zeta integrals of Friedberg-Jacquet at complex place and to establish similar results to our recent work in the reall case joint with C. Cheng and D. Jiang. In this paper, we will (1) give a necessary and sufficient condition on an irreducible essentially tempered cohomological representation $\pi$ of $\mathrm{GL}_{2n}(\mathbb{C})$ with a non-zero Shalika model; (2) construct a new twisted linear period $\Lambda_{s,\chi}$; (3) give a necessary and sufficient condition on the character $\chi$ such that there exists a uniform cohomological test vector $v\in V_\pi$ (which we construct explicitly) for $\Lambda_{s,\chi}$. As a consequence, we obtain the non-vanishing of local Friedberg-Jacquet integral at complex place. All of the above are essential preparations for attacking a global period relation problem.

Archimedean Non-vanishing, Cohomological Test Vectors, and Standard $L$-functions of $\mathrm{GL}_{2n}$: Real Case

The standard $L$-functions of $\mathrm{GL}_{2n}$ expressed in terms of the Friedberg-Jacquet global zeta integrals have better structure for arithmetic applications, due to the relation of the linear periods with the modular symbols. The most technical obstacles towards such arithmetic applications are (1) non-vanishing of modular symbols at infinity and (2) the existance or construction of uniform cohomological test vectors. Problem (1) is also called the non-vanishing hypothesis at infinity, which was proved by Binyong Sun, by establishing the existence of certain cohomological test vectors. In this paper, we explicitly construct an archimedean local integral that produces a new type of a twisted linear functional $\Lambda_{s,\chi}$, which, when evaluated with our explicitly constructed cohomological vector, is equal to the local twisted standard $L$-function $L(s,\pi\otimes\chi)$ as a meromorphic function of $s\in \mathbb{C}$. With the relations between linear models and Shalika models, we establish (1) with an explicitly constructed cohomological vector, and hence recovers a non-vanishing result of Binyong Sun via a completely different method. Our main result indicates a complete solution to (2), which will be presented in a paper of Dihua Jiang, Binyong Sun and Fangyang Tian with full details and with applications to the global period relations for the twisted standard $L$-functions at critical places.

Archimedean zeta integrals on U(n,1)

For a dual pair of unitary groups with equal size, zeta integrals arising from Rallis inner product formula give the central values of certain automorphic L-functions. In this paper we explicitly calculate archimedean zeta integrals of this type for U(n,1), assuming that the corresponding archimedean component of the automorphic representation is a holomorphic discrete series.
