Unconventional superconductivity in magic-strain graphene superlattices

Extensive investigations on the Moiré magic-angle have been conducted in twisted bilayer graphene, unlocking the mystery of unconventional superconductivity and insulating states. In analog to magic angle, here we demonstrate the new concept of magic-strain in graphene systems by judiciously tailoring mechanical relaxation (stretch and compression) which is easier to implement in practice. We elucidate the interplay of strain-induced effects and delve into the resulting unconventional superconductivity or semimetal-insulator transition in relaxation-strained graphene, going beyond the traditional twisting approach. Our findings reveal how relaxation strain can trigger superconducting transitions (with an ultra-flat band at the Fermi level) or the semimetal-insulator transition (with a gap opening at the $K$ point of $0.39\rm{~eV}$) in both monolayer and bilayer graphene. These discoveries open up a new branch for correlated phenomena and provide deeper insights into the underlying physics of superconductors, which positions graphene as a highly tunable platform for novel electronic applications.

On the Effectiveness of Acoustic BPE in Decoder-Only TTS

Discretizing speech into tokens and generating them by a decoder-only model have been a promising direction for text-to-speech (TTS) and spoken language modeling (SLM). To shorten the sequence length of speech tokens, acoustic byte-pair encoding (BPE) has emerged in SLM that treats speech tokens from self-supervised semantic representations as characters to further compress the token sequence. But the gain in TTS has not been fully investigated, and the proper choice of acoustic BPE remains unclear. In this work, we conduct a comprehensive study on various settings of acoustic BPE to explore its effectiveness in decoder-only TTS models with semantic speech tokens. Experiments on LibriTTS verify that acoustic BPE uniformly increases the intelligibility and diversity of synthesized speech, while showing different features across BPE settings. Hence, acoustic BPE is a favorable tool for decoder-only TTS.

A Local Search Algorithm for MaxSMT(LIA)

MaxSAT modulo theories (MaxSMT) is an important generalization of Satisfiability modulo theories (SMT) with various applications. In this paper, we focus on MaxSMT with the background theory of Linear Integer Arithmetic, denoted as MaxSMT(LIA). We design the first local search algorithm for MaxSMT(LIA) called PairLS, based on the following novel ideas. A novel operator called pairwise operator is proposed for integer variables. It extends the original local search operator by simultaneously operating on two variables, enriching the search space. Moreover, a compensation-based picking heuristic is proposed to determine and distinguish the pairwise operations. Experiments are conducted to evaluate our algorithm on massive benchmarks. The results show that our solver is competitive with state-of-the-art MaxSMT solvers. Furthermore, we also apply the pairwise operation to enhance the local search algorithm of SMT, which shows its extensibility.

Bridging Stereo Geometry and BEV Representation with Reliable Mutual Interaction for Semantic Scene Completion

3D semantic scene completion (SSC) is an ill-posed perception task that requires inferring a dense 3D scene from limited observations. Previous camera-based methods struggle to predict accurate semantic scenes due to inherent geometric ambiguity and incomplete observations. In this paper, we resort to stereo matching technique and bird's-eye-view (BEV) representation learning to address such issues in SSC. Complementary to each other, stereo matching mitigates geometric ambiguity with epipolar constraint while BEV representation enhances the hallucination ability for invisible regions with global semantic context. However, due to the inherent representation gap between stereo geometry and BEV features, it is non-trivial to bridge them for dense prediction task of SSC. Therefore, we further develop a unified occupancy-based framework dubbed BRGScene, which effectively bridges these two representations with dense 3D volumes for reliable semantic scene completion. Specifically, we design a novel Mutual Interactive Ensemble (MIE) block for pixel-level reliable aggregation of stereo geometry and BEV features. Within the MIE block, a Bi-directional Reliable Interaction (BRI) module, enhanced with confidence re-weighting, is employed to encourage fine-grained interaction through mutual guidance. Besides, a Dual Volume Ensemble (DVE) module is introduced to facilitate complementary aggregation through channel-wise recalibration and multi-group voting. Our method outperforms all published camera-based methods on SemanticKITTI for semantic scene completion. Our code is available on https://github.com/Arlo0o/StereoScene.

A Two-Stage Framework with Self-Supervised Distillation For Cross-Domain Text Classification

Cross-domain text classification aims to adapt models to a target domain that lacks labeled data. It leverages or reuses rich labeled data from the different but related source domain(s) and unlabeled data from the target domain. To this end, previous work focuses on either extracting domain-invariant features or task-agnostic features, ignoring domain-aware features that may be present in the target domain and could be useful for the downstream task. In this paper, we propose a two-stage framework for cross-domain text classification. In the first stage, we finetune the model with mask language modeling (MLM) and labeled data from the source domain. In the second stage, we further fine-tune the model with self-supervised distillation (SSD) and unlabeled data from the target domain. We evaluate its performance on a public cross-domain text classification benchmark and the experiment results show that our method achieves new state-of-the-art results for both single-source domain adaptations (94.17% $\uparrow$1.03%) and multi-source domain adaptations (95.09% $\uparrow$1.34%).

NaviNeRF: NeRF-based 3D Representation Disentanglement by Latent Semantic Navigation

3D representation disentanglement aims to identify, decompose, and manipulate the underlying explanatory factors of 3D data, which helps AI fundamentally understand our 3D world. This task is currently under-explored and poses great challenges: (i) the 3D representations are complex and in general contains much more information than 2D image; (ii) many 3D representations are not well suited for gradient-based optimization, let alone disentanglement. To address these challenges, we use NeRF as a differentiable 3D representation, and introduce a self-supervised Navigation to identify interpretable semantic directions in the latent space. To our best knowledge, this novel method, dubbed NaviNeRF, is the first work to achieve fine-grained 3D disentanglement without any priors or supervisions. Specifically, NaviNeRF is built upon the generative NeRF pipeline, and equipped with an Outer Navigation Branch and an Inner Refinement Branch. They are complementary -- the outer navigation is to identify global-view semantic directions, and the inner refinement dedicates to fine-grained attributes. A synergistic loss is further devised to coordinate two branches. Extensive experiments demonstrate that NaviNeRF has a superior fine-grained 3D disentanglement ability than the previous 3D-aware models. Its performance is also comparable to editing-oriented models relying on semantic or geometry priors.

Extreme Video Compression with Pre-trained Diffusion Models

Diffusion models have achieved remarkable success in generating high quality image and video data. More recently, they have also been used for image compression with high perceptual quality. In this paper, we present a novel approach to extreme video compression leveraging the predictive power of diffusion-based generative models at the decoder. The conditional diffusion model takes several neural compressed frames and generates subsequent frames. When the reconstruction quality drops below the desired level, new frames are encoded to restart prediction. The entire video is sequentially encoded to achieve a visually pleasing reconstruction, considering perceptual quality metrics such as the learned perceptual image patch similarity (LPIPS) and the Frechet video distance (FVD), at bit rates as low as 0.02 bits per pixel (bpp). Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme compared to standard codecs such as H.264 and H.265 in the low bpp regime. The results showcase the potential of exploiting the temporal relations in video data using generative models. One at a Time: Progressive Multi-step Volumetric Probability Learning for Reliable 3D Scene Perception

Numerous studies have investigated the pivotal role of reliable 3D volume representation in scene perception tasks, such as multi-view stereo (MVS) and semantic scene completion (SSC). They typically construct 3D probability volumes directly with geometric correspondence, attempting to fully address the scene perception tasks in a single forward pass. However, such a single-step solution makes it hard to learn accurate and convincing volumetric probability, especially in challenging regions like unexpected occlusions and complicated light reflections. Therefore, this paper proposes to decompose the complicated 3D volume representation learning into a sequence of generative steps to facilitate fine and reliable scene perception. Considering the recent advances achieved by strong generative diffusion models, we introduce a multi-step learning framework, dubbed as VPD, dedicated to progressively refining the Volumetric Probability in a Diffusion process. Extensive experiments are conducted on scene perception tasks including multi-view stereo (MVS) and semantic scene completion (SSC), to validate the efficacy of our method in learning reliable volumetric representations. Notably, for the SSC task, our work stands out as the first to surpass LiDAR-based methods on the SemanticKITTI dataset.

Semantic-Guided Generative Image Augmentation Method with Diffusion Models for Image Classification

Existing image augmentation methods consist of two categories: perturbation-based methods and generative methods. Perturbation-based methods apply pre-defined perturbations to augment an original image, but only locally vary the image, thus lacking image diversity. In contrast, generative methods bring more image diversity in the augmented images but may not preserve semantic consistency, thus incorrectly changing the essential semantics of the original image. To balance image diversity and semantic consistency in augmented images, we propose SGID, a Semantic-guided Generative Image augmentation method with Diffusion models for image classification. Specifically, SGID employs diffusion models to generate augmented images with good image diversity. More importantly, SGID takes image labels and captions as guidance to maintain semantic consistency between the augmented and original images. Experimental results show that SGID outperforms the best augmentation baseline by 1.72% on ResNet-50 (from scratch), 0.33% on ViT (ImageNet-21k), and 0.14% on CLIP-ViT (LAION-2B). Moreover, SGID can be combined with other image augmentation baselines and further improves the overall performance. We demonstrate the semantic consistency and image diversity of SGID through quantitative human and automated evaluations, as well as qualitative case studies.

VideoDubber: Machine Translation with Speech-Aware Length Control for Video Dubbing

Video dubbing aims to translate the original speech in a film or television program into the speech in a target language, which can be achieved with a cascaded system consisting of speech recognition, machine translation and speech synthesis. To ensure the translated speech to be well aligned with the corresponding video, the length/duration of the translated speech should be as close as possible to that of the original speech, which requires strict length control. Previous works usually control the number of words or characters generated by the machine translation model to be similar to the source sentence, without considering the isochronicity of speech as the speech duration of words/characters in different languages varies. In this paper, we propose a machine translation system tailored for the task of video dubbing, which directly considers the speech duration of each token in translation, to match the length of source and target speech. Specifically, we control the speech length of generated sentence by guiding the prediction of each word with the duration information, including the speech duration of itself as well as how much duration is left for the remaining words. We design experiments on four language directions (German -> English, Spanish -> English, Chinese <-> English), and the results show that the proposed method achieves better length control ability on the generated speech than baseline methods. To make up the lack of real-world datasets, we also construct a real-world test set collected from films to provide comprehensive evaluations on the video dubbing task.

Efficient Local Search for Nonlinear Real Arithmetic

Local search has recently been applied to SMT problems over various arithmetic theories. Among these, nonlinear real arithmetic poses special challenges due to its uncountable solution space and potential need to solve higher-degree polynomials. As a consequence, existing work on local search only considered fragments of the theory. In this work, we analyze the difficulties and propose ways to address them, resulting in an efficient search algorithm that covers the full theory of nonlinear real arithmetic. In particular, we present two algorithmic improvements: incremental computation of variable scores and temporary relaxation of equality constraints. We also discuss choice of candidate moves and a look-ahead mechanism in case when no critical moves are available. The resulting implementation is competitive on satisfiable problem instances against complete methods such as MCSAT in existing SMT solvers.

MixPro: Simple yet Effective Data Augmentation for Prompt-based Learning

Prompt-based learning has shown considerable promise in reformulating various downstream tasks as cloze problems by combining original input with a predetermined template. This approach demonstrates its effectiveness, especially in few-shot learning scenarios, where the model is trained on a scarce amount of data. Despite its successes, the limited templates and text in few-shot prompt-based learning scenarios leave significant room for performance improvement. Moreover, existing methods sometimes resort to model ensembles, which, while effective, could potentially hamper model efficiency due to increased computational demands. To address these issues, we introduce MixPro, an augmentation method designed to augment both the vanilla input text and the templates. We implement this through the token-level, the sentence-level, and the template-level Mixup strategies. The experimental results on five few-shot datasets show that MixPro outperforms other augmentation baselines, improving model performance by an average of 5.08% compared to before augmentation.

Linear Quadratic Extended Mean Field Games and Control Problems

We provide a thorough study of a general class of linear-quadratic extended mean field games and control problems in any dimensions where the mean field terms are allowed to be unbounded and there are also presence of cross terms in the objective functionals. Our investigation focuses on the unique existence of equilibrium strategies for the extended mean field problems by employing the stochastic maximum principle approach and the appropriate fixed point argument. We provide two distinct proofs, accompanied by two sufficient conditions, that establish the unique existence of the equilibrium strategy over a global time horizon. Both conditions emphasize the importance of sufficiently small coefficients of sensitivity for the cross term, of state and control, and mean field term. To determine the required magnitude of these coefficients, we utilize the singular values of appropriate matrices and Weyl's inequalities. The present proposed theory is consistent with the classical one, namely, our theoretical framework encompasses classical linear-quadratic stochastic control problems as particular cases. Additionally, we establish sufficient conditions for the unique existence of solutions to a particular class of non-symmetric Riccati equations, and we illustrate a counterexample to the existence of equilibrium strategies. Furthermore, we also apply the stochastic maximum principle approach to examine linear-quadratic extended mean field type stochastic control problems. Finally, we conduct a comparative analysis between our method and the alternative master equation approach, specifically addressing the efficacy of the present proposed approach in solving common practical problems, for which the explicit forms of the equilibrium strategies can be obtained directly, even over any global time horizon.

Optimal Monotone Mean-Variance Problem in a Catastrophe Insurance Model

This paper explores an optimal investment and reinsurance problem involving both ordinary and catastrophe insurance businesses. The catastrophic events are modeled as following a compound Poisson process, impacting the ordinary insurance business. The claim intensity for the ordinary insurance business is described using a Cox process with a shot-noise intensity, the jump of which is proportional to the size of the catastrophe event. This intensity increases when a catastrophe occurs and then decays over time. The insurer's objective is to maximize their terminal wealth under the Monotone Mean-Variance (MMV) criterion. In contrast to the classical Mean-Variance (MV) criterion, the MMV criterion is monotonic across its entire domain, aligning better with fundamental economic principles. We first formulate the original MMV optimization problem as an auxiliary zero-sum game. Through solving the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman-Isaacs (HJBI) equation, explicit forms of the value function and optimal strategies are obtained. Additionally, we provides the efficient frontier within the MMV criterion. Several numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the practical implications of the results.

Pump-induced terahertz conductivity response and peculiar bound state in Mn3Si2Te6

We report the significant enhancement on ultrafast terahertz optical conductivity and the unexpected formation of a polaronic-like state in semiconductor Mn3Si2Te6 at room temperature. With the absorption of pump photons, the low-frequency terahertz photoconductivity spectrum exhibits a significant rise, quickly forming a broad peak and subsequently shifting to higher energy. The short-lived nature of the broad peak, as well as the distribution of optical constants, strongly points towards a transient polaron mechanism. Our study not only provides profound insights into the remarkable photoelectric response of Mn3Si2Te6 but also highlights its significant potential for future photoelectric applications.

Self-Supervised Dynamic Hypergraph Recommendation based on Hyper-Relational Knowledge Graph

Knowledge graphs (KGs) are commonly used as side information to enhance collaborative signals and improve recommendation quality. In the context of knowledge-aware recommendation (KGR), graph neural networks (GNNs) have emerged as promising solutions for modeling factual and semantic information in KGs. However, the long-tail distribution of entities leads to sparsity in supervision signals, which weakens the quality of item representation when utilizing KG enhancement. Additionally, the binary relation representation of KGs simplifies hyper-relational facts, making it challenging to model complex real-world information. Furthermore, the over-smoothing phenomenon results in indistinguishable representations and information loss. To address these challenges, we propose the SDK (Self-Supervised Dynamic Hypergraph Recommendation based on Hyper-Relational Knowledge Graph) framework. This framework establishes a cross-view hypergraph self-supervised learning mechanism for KG enhancement. Specifically, we model hyper-relational facts in KGs to capture interdependencies between entities under complete semantic conditions. With the refined representation, a hypergraph is dynamically constructed to preserve features in the deep vector space, thereby alleviating the over-smoothing problem. Furthermore, we mine external supervision signals from both the global perspective of the hypergraph and the local perspective of collaborative filtering (CF) to guide the model prediction process. Extensive experiments conducted on different datasets demonstrate the superiority of the SDK framework over state-of-the-art models. The results showcase its ability to alleviate the effects of over-smoothing and supervision signal sparsity.

Local Search For SMT On Linear and Multilinear Real Arithmetic

Satisfiability Modulo Theories (SMT) has significant application in various domains. In this paper, we focus on quantifier-free Satisfiablity Modulo Real Arithmetic, referred to as SMT(RA), including both linear and non-linear real arithmetic theories. As for non-linear real arithmetic theory, we focus on one of its important fragments where the atomic constraints are multi-linear. We propose the first local search algorithm for SMT(RA), called LocalSMT(RA), based on two novel ideas. First, an interval-based operator is proposed to cooperate with the traditional local search operator by considering the interval information. Moreover, we propose a tie-breaking mechanism to further evaluate the operations when the operations are indistinguishable according to the score function. Experiments are conducted to evaluate LocalSMT(RA) on benchmarks from SMT-LIB. The results show that LocalSMT(RA) is competitive with the state-of-the-art SMT solvers, and performs particularly well on multi-linear instances.

Spectral flow, twisted modules and MLDE of quasi-lisse vertex algebras

We calculate the fusion rules among $\mathbb{Z}_2$-twisted modules $L_{\mathfrak{sl}_2}(\ell,0)$ at admissible levels. We derive a series MLDEs for normalized characters of ordinary twisted modules of quasi-lisse vertex algebras. Examples include affine VOAs of type $A_1^{(1)}$ at boundary admissible level, admissible level $k=-1/2$, $A^{(1)}_{2}$ at boundary admissible level $k=-3/2$, and $\mathrm{BP}^{k}$-algebra with special value $k=-9/4$. We also derive characters of some non-vacuum modules for affine VOA of type $D_4$ at non-admissible level $-2$ from spectral flow automorphism.
