An improved direct limit on the muon electric dipole moment

A limit on the permanent electric dipole moment (EDM) of the positive muon is presented based on data from the Fermilab Muon g-2 Experiment taken between 2019 and 2020. The tracking detectors measure the average vertical decay angle of positrons from muon decays, enabling a search for an interaction between a possible muon EDM $d_\mu$ and the lab-frame magnetic field. The result, $d_\mu = (-0.35 \pm 0.19_{\mathrm{stat}} \pm 0.34_{\mathrm{sys}}) \times10^{-19}~e\cdot$cm, is consistent with zero and sets a new direct limit on the muon EDM of $|d_\mu|<1.10\times10^{-19}~e\cdot$cm at the 95 percent confidence level.

A New Low $Q^2$ Measurement of the Proton's $g_1$ Spin Structure Function from Longitudinal & Transverse Polarized Data

The proton's spin structure has proven to be far more complicated than was originally believed, and has been the subject of a number of experimental investigations. %Early measurements of the proton's spin structure function $g_1$ showed that the proton does not solely derive its spin from the spins of its quarks, starting the `proton spin crisis'. Of particular interest are the spin structure functions $g_1$ and $g_2$, which can be used to generate moments to directly compare experimental results to Chiral Perturbation Theory and other theories of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). The proton's $g_1$ structure function has been the subject of two other recent low momentum transfer experiments, but there are currently no published low momentum transfer measurements which collected data on the proton structure functions using both a longitudinally-polarized and a transversely-polarized target at the same kinematics. In this paper, we present the longitudinally polarized results of the Jefferson Lab E08-027 experiment, along with linked moments which combine this new result with the previously published transversely-polarized data from the same experiment. These results provide a proton $g_1$ extraction measured with very high precision across the resonance region, and provide new information on the value of $g_1$ dependent sum rules and moments.

First evidence of $X(3872)\to\pi^0\chi_{c0}(1P)$ and search for $X(3915)\to\pi^0\chi_{c1}(1P)$

We search for the pionic transitions $X(3872)\to\pi^0\chi_{cJ}(1P)$ $(J = 0,~1,~2)$ and $X(3915)\to\pi^0\chi_{c1}$ in $B^+\to \pi^0\chi_{cJ}K^+$ decays using the Belle and Belle~II data samples collected at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance, corresponding to integrated luminosities of $711~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ and $492~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$, respectively. We report the first evidence for the decay $X(3872)\to\pi^0\chi_{c0}$ with a significance of $3.4\sigma$, including systematic uncertainties. We measure the product of branching fractions ${\cal B}(B^+\to X(3872)K^+)\times{\cal B}(X(3872)\to\pi^0\chi_{c0})=(20.0\pm6.8\pm2.3)\times10^{-6}$ and the branching fraction ratio ${\cal B}(X(3872)\to\pi^0\chi_{c0})/{\cal B}(X(3872)\to\pi^+\pi^-J/\psi)=2.3\pm0.8\pm0.4$, where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The upper limits at 90\% credibility on the products of branching fractions for the $\pi^0\chi_{c1}$ and $\pi^0\chi_{c2}$ modes are $7.5\times10^{-6}$ and $15.3\times10^{-6}$, respectively. The corresponding upper limits on the branching fraction ratios relative to the $\pi^+\pi^-J/\psi$ decay are $0.9$ and $1.8$. The measured branching fractions for $X(3872)\to\pi^0\chi_{cJ}$ are consistent with several theoretical predictions based on the hadronic molecular interpretation of the $X(3872)$. No significant signal is seen for the $X(3915)\to\pi^0\chi_{c1}$ decay, and we set the 90\% credibility upper limit of ${\cal B}(B^+\to X(3915)K^+)\times{\cal B}(X(3915)\to\pi^0\chi_{c1})<6.6\times10^{-6}$, while the decays for $J=0$ and 2 are forbidden by parity conservation.

Measurement of mixing-induced CP violation in the decay $B^0 \to \pi^0 \pi^0$

Measurements of charge-parity (CP) violation in quark transitions provide stringent tests of the current theory and sensitive probes of particles or interactions beyond it. We report the first measurement of mixing-induced CP violation in $B^0\to\pi^0\pi^0$ decays. The measurement uses 190 million $\Upsilon(4S)\to B^{0}\overline{B}{}^0$ events collected with the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy electron-positron collider. A new approach that exploits the quantum entanglement of the $B^{0}\overline{B}{}^0$ pair enables a decay-time-dependent analysis without reconstructing the $B^0 \to \pi^0\pi^0$ decay position. We measure the mixing-induced CP-violating coefficient to be $S_{\pi^{0}\pi^{0}} = 0.61^{+0.75}_{-0.79}\,(\mathrm{stat}) \pm 0.11\,(\mathrm{syst})$, attaining a precision that would require a data set twenty times as large with a conventional analysis. We also measure the direct CP-violating coefficient to be $C_{\pi^{0}\pi^{0}} = 0.05 \pm 0.28\,(\mathrm{stat}) \pm 0.07\,(\mathrm{syst})$. These results substantially improve the constraints from $B \to \pi\pi$ decays on the CP-violating phase $\phi_2$ of the quark-mixing matrix using far less data than had previously been assumed necessary.

Final Report on the Measurement of the Positive Muon Anomalous Magnetic Moment at Fermilab to 127 ppb

This report details the final measurement of the muon magnetic anomaly, $a_{\mu}=(g_{\mu}-2)/2$, by the Muon $g-2$ experiment at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (FNAL), using positive muons collected from 2021 to 2023. The value of $a_{\mu}$ is determined from the ratio of the anomalous spin precession frequency to the shielded proton precession frequency in the muon storage ring magnetic field, combined with external constants known at the 22 ppb level. The new dataset, containing over $2.5$ times the statistics of our previous results, yields $a_{\mu}=116\,592\,0710(162)\times 10^{-12}$ (139 ppb), or $a_{\mu}=116\,592\,0705(148)\times 10^{-12}$ (127 ppb) when combined with our previous results. The new experimental world average, dominated by the measurements at FNAL, is $a_{\mu}^{\text{Exp}}=116\,592\,0715(145)\times 10^{-12}$ (124 ppb).

Hubble Science in the 2030s White Paper: High-Contrast Optical and UV Spectroscopy with HST/STIS

The Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) on the Hubble Space Telescope currently stands as the sole space-based astronomical facility providing visible-light coronagraphic imaging -- and the only facility anywhere that can perform both visible- and ultraviolet-light coronagraphic spectroscopy. In imaging, STIS offers unparalleled stability that rivals the performance of ground-based direct imaging in the optical, and a wide field of view that will complement the upcoming capabilities of Roman coronagraphy. STIS also has the capability for direct high-contrast visible and ultraviolet spectroscopy via two occulting bars in its 52''$\times$0.2'' spectroscopic slit. By placing a bright astrophysical source behind an occulting bar, it is possible to use the STIS visible and NUV/FUV gratings to obtain spatially-resolved spectra of faint environments and companions, covering wavelengths from 1150-10,300{\AA} at resolutions of $R\sim500-10{,}000$. In this white paper, we detail the use cases and performance of this under-utilized mode, with starlight subtraction enabling visible light spectral contrasts of $\sim10^{-4}-10^{-5}$. We describe the promise of STIS coronagraphic spectroscopy for a wide variety of astrophysical applications -- planetary and brown dwarf companions, circumstellar disks, young stellar objects, evolved stars and binaries, and active galactic nuclei/galaxy host environments -- throughout the 2030s. STIS high-contrast UV spectroscopy in particular could provide transformative science while pathfinding both techniques and observational studies for the Habitable Worlds Observatory.

Enhancing Train-Free Infinite-Frame Generation for Consistent Long Videos

Without incurring significant computational overhead, train-free long video generation aims to enable foundation video generation models to produce longer videos. Frame-level autoregressive frameworks, e.g., FIFO-diffusion, offer the advantage of generating infinitely long videos with constant memory consumption. However, the mismatch between training and inference, coupled with the challenge of maintaining long-term consistency, limits the effective utilization of foundation models. To mitigate these concerns, we propose \textbf{MIGA}, a novel infinite-frame long video generation method. Firstly, we propose an effective two-stage alignment mechanism that mitigates the training-inference gap by reducing the excessive noise span fed to the model. We then introduce an innovative dual consistency enhancement mechanism, where the self-reflection approach corrects early high-noise frames and the long-range frame guidance approach leverages later low-noise frames with broad coverage to steer generation, jointly improving temporal consistency. Extensive experiments on VBench and NarrLV demonstrate the state-of-the-art performance of MIGA. Our project page is available at https://xiaokunfeng.github.io/miga_homepage/.

Baryon-antibaryon photoproduction cross sections off the proton

The GlueX experiment at Jefferson Lab has observed $p\bar{p}$ and, for the first time, $Λ\barΛ$ and $p\barΛ$ photoproduction from a proton target at photon energies up to 11.6 GeV. The angular distributions are forward peaked for all produced pairs, consistent with Regge-like $t$-channel exchange. Asymmetric wide-angle anti-baryon distributions show the presence of additional processes. In a phenomenological model, we find consistency with a double $t$-channel exchange process where anti-baryons are created only at the middle vertex. The model matches all observed distributions with a small number of free parameters. In the hyperon channels, we observe a clear distinction between photoproduction of the $Λ\barΛ$ and $p\barΛ$ systems but general similarity to the $p\bar{p}$ system. We report both total cross sections and cross sections differential with respect to momentum transfer and the invariant masses of the created particle pairs. No narrow resonant structures were found in these reaction channels. The suppression of $s\bar{s}$ quark pairs relative to $d\bar{d}$ quark pairs is similar to what has been seen in other reactions.

Search for the lepton-flavor-violating $τ^{-} \rightarrow e^{\mp} \ell^{\pm} \ell^{\mp}$ decays at Belle II

We present the result of a search for the charged-lepton-flavor violating decays $τ^- \rightarrow e^\mp \ell^\pm \ell^-$, where $\ell$ is a muon or an electron, using a data sample with an integrated luminosity of 428 fb$^{-1}$ recorded by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. The selection of $e^+e^- \toτ^+τ^-$ events containing a signal candidate is based on an inclusive-tagging reconstruction and on a boosted decision tree to suppress background. Upper limits on the branching fractions between 1.3 and 2.5 $\times 10^{-8}$ are set at the 90% confidence level. These results are the most stringent bounds to date for four of the modes.

Improved measurement of the branching fraction of $D_s^+\toμ^+ν_μ$

Using $e^+e^-$ collision data with an integrated luminosity of $7.33~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ collected at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, the branching fraction of the leptonic decay $D_s^+\toμ^+ν_μ$ is measured to be $(0.5294\pm0.0108_{\rm stat}\pm0.0085_{\rm syst})$\%. Based on this, the product of the $D_s^+$ decay constant $f_{D_s^+}$ and the magnitude of the $c\to s$ quark mixing matrix element $|V_{cs}|$ is determined to be $f_{D_s^+}|V_{cs}|=241.8\pm2.5_{\rm stat}\pm2.2_{\rm syst}~\mathrm{MeV}$. Using the value of $|V_{cs}|$ given by the global standard model fit, $f_{D_s^+}$ is found to be $248.4\pm2.5_{\rm stat}\pm2.2_{\rm syst}$\,MeV. Alternatively, using the value of $f_{D_s^+}$ from a recent lattice quantum chromodynamics calculation, $|V_{cs}|$ is determined to be $0.968\pm0.010_{\rm stat}\pm0.009_{\rm syst}$.

Search for $e^+ e^- \to γχ_{bJ}$ ($J$ = 0, 1, 2) near $\sqrt{s} = 10.746$ GeV at Belle II

We search for the $e^+ e^- \to γχ_{bJ}$ ($J$ = 0, 1, 2) processes at center-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}$ = 10.653, 10.701, 10.746, and 10.804 GeV. These data were collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider and correspond to 3.5, 1.6, 9.8, and 4.7 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, respectively. We set upper limits at the 90\% confidence level on the Born cross sections for $e^+ e^- \to γχ_{bJ}$ at each center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}$ near 10.746 GeV. The upper limits at 90\% confidence level on the Born cross sections for $e^+ e^- \to γχ_{b1}$ are significantly smaller than the corresponding measured values for $e^+e^-\toωχ_{b1}$ and $e^+e^-\toπ^+π^-Υ(2S)$ at $\sqrt{s}$ = 10.746 GeV.

Observation of $χ_{cJ}(J=0,1,2)\rightarrow p\bar{p}ηη$

Using $(2712.4\pm14.3)\times10^6$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected by the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring, the decays $χ_{cJ}(J=0,1,2)\rightarrow p\bar{p}ηη$ are observed for the first time through the radiative transition $ψ(3686)\toγχ_{cJ}$. The statistical significances for $χ_{cJ}$ signals are all larger than 5$σ$. The branching fractions of $χ_{c0,1,2}\to p\bar{p} ηη$ are determined to be $({5.75 \pm 0.59 \pm 0.42}) \times 10^{-5}$, $({1.40 \pm 0.33 \pm 0.17}) \times 10^{-5}$, and $({2.64 \pm 0.40 \pm 0.27}) \times 10^{-5}$, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. No evident resonant structures are found in the $p\bar{p}$ and $pη/\bar{p}η$ systems.

First measurement of $Σ^{+}n\rightarrowΛp$ and $Σ^{+}n\rightarrowΣ^{0}p$ cross sections via $Σ^+$-nucleus scattering at an electron-positron collider

Using $(1.0087\pm0.0044)\times10^{10}$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring, the reactions $Σ^{+}n\rightarrowΛp$ and $Σ^{+}n\rightarrowΣ^{0}p$ are studied, where the $Σ^{+}$ baryon is produced in the process $J/ψ\rightarrowΣ^{+}\barΣ^-$ and the neutron is a component of the $^9\rm{Be}$, $^{12}\rm{C}$ and $^{197}\rm{Au}$ nuclei in the beam pipe. Clear signals of these two reactions are observed for the first time. Their cross sections are measured to be $σ(Σ^{+}+{^9\rm{Be}}\rightarrowΛ+p+X)=(45.2\pm12.1_{\rm{stat}}\pm7.2_{\rm{sys}})$ mb and $σ(Σ^{+}+{^9\rm{Be}}\rightarrowΣ^{0}+p+X)=(29.8\pm9.7_{\rm{stat}}\pm6.9_{\rm{sys}})$ mb for a $Σ^{+}$ average momentum of $0.992$ GeV/$c$, within a range of $\pm0.015$ GeV/$c$, where $X$ represents the residual nucleus. This is the first study of $Σ^{+}$-nucleon scattering at an electron-positron collider.

Study of the $f_{0}(980)$ and $f_{0}(500)$ Scalar Mesons through the Decay $D_{s}^{+} \to π^{+} π^{-} e^{+} ν_{e}$

Using $e^+e^-$ collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.33~${\rm fb^{-1}}$ recorded by the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226~${\rm GeV}$, we present an analysis of the decay $D_{s}^{+} \to π^{+}π^{-} e^{+}ν_{e}$, where the $D_s^+$ is produced via the process $e^+e^- \to D_{s}^{*\pm}D_{s}^{\mp}$. We observe the $f_{0}(980)$ in the $π^+π^-$ system and the branching fraction of the decay $D_{s}^{+} \to f_{0}(980)e^{+}ν_{e}$ with $f_0(980)\toπ^+π^-$ measured to be $(1.72 \pm 0.13_{\rm stat} \pm 0.10_{\rm syst}) \times10^{-3}$, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The dynamics of the $D_{s}^{+} \to f_{0}(980)e^{+}ν_{e}$ decay are studied with the simple pole parametrization of the hadronic form factor and the Flatté formula describing the $f_0(980)$ in the differential decay rate, and the product of the form factor $f^{f_0}_{+}(0)$ and the $c\to s$ Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{cs}|$ is determined for the first time to be $f^{f_0}_+(0)|V_{cs}|=0.504\pm0.017_{\rm stat}\pm0.035_{\rm syst}$. Furthermore, the decay $D^+_s\to f_0(500) e^+ν_e$ is searched for the first time but no signal is found. The upper limit on the branching fraction of $D^+_s\to f_0(500) e^+ν_e,~f_0(500)\toπ^+π^-$ decay is set to be $3.3 \times 10^{-4}$ at 90\% confidence level.

Study of $e^{+}e^{-}\to h^{+}h^{-}J/\psi~(h=\pi,~K,~p)$ via initial-state radiation at Belle~II

Using a data sample of 427.9 fb$^{-1}$ collected by the Belle~II detector at or near the $\Upsilon(4S)$ and $\Upsilon(10753)$ resonances, the cross sections for $e^+e^-\to h^+h^-J/\psi$ $(h=\pi/K/p)$ at center-of-mass energies ranging from 3.8 GeV or the production threshold to 5.5/6.0/7.0 GeV have been measured via initial-state radiation. The cross sections for the processes $e^+e^-\to \pi^+\pi^-J/\psi$ and $e^+e^-\to K^+K^-J/\psi$ are consistent with previously published results. The cross sections for these channels obtained by combining with previous Belle results are also given. The process $e^+e^-\to p\bar p J/\psi$ is investigated for the first time. The yields are small and no significant structure is observed in the cross section versus energy. Searches for vector charmonium-like states in the $h^+h^-J/\psi$ systems, and for associated intermediate states in the $h^{\pm} J/\psi$ systems, are also presented.

Observation of $ψ(3686) \to Ξ^- K^0_S \barΩ^+ $+c.c

Using a sample of $(2.712\pm0.014) \times 10^{9}$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the electron positron collider BEPCII, the decay $ψ(3686) \to Ξ^- K^0_S \barΩ^+ +c.c.$ is observed for the first time, which has a significance of 5.9 standard deviations. The branching fraction of this decay is measured to be $(2.91\pm0.47\pm0.33)\times 10^{-6}$, where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The ratio between $\mathcal{B}_{ψ(3686) \to Ξ^- K^0_S \barΩ^+ +c.c.}$ and $\mathcal{B}_{ψ(3686) \to Ω^- K^+ \barΞ^0 +c.c.}$ is determined to be $1.05\pm0.23\pm0.14 $, which deviates with the isospin symmetry conservation predicted value of 0.5 by $2.1σ$.

Study of $η\rightarrowπ^+π^-l^+l^-$

Using a sample of $(10087\pm44)\times10^{6}$ $J/ψ$ events accumulated with the BESIII detector, we analyze the decays $η\rightarrowπ^+π^-l^+l^-$ ($l=e$ or $μ$) via the process $J/ψ\rightarrowγη$. The branching fraction of $η\rightarrowπ^+π^-e^+e^-$ is measured to be $\mathcal{B}(η\rightarrowπ^+π^-e^+e^-)=(3.07\pm0.12_{\rm{stat.}}\pm0.19_{\rm{syst.}}) \times10^{-4}$. No signal events are observed for the $η\rightarrowπ^{+}π^{-}μ^{+}μ^{-}$ decay, leading to an upper limit on the branching fraction of $\mathcal{B}(η\rightarrowπ^{+}π^{-}μ^{+}μ^{-})<4.0\times10^{-7}$ at the 90\% confidence level. Furthermore, the $CP$-violation asymmetry parameter is found to be $\mathcal{A}_{CP}(η\rightarrowπ^{+}π^{-}e^{+}e^{-})=(-4.04\pm4.69_{\rm{stat.}}\pm0.14_{\rm{syst.}})\%$, showing no evidence of $CP$-violation with current statistics. Additionally, we extract the transition form factor from the decay amplitude of $η\rightarrowπ^+π^-e^+e^-$. Finally, axion-like particles are searched for via the decay $η\rightarrowπ^+π^-a, a\rightarrow e^+e^-$, and upper limits on this branching fraction relative to that of $η\rightarrowπ^+π^-e^+e^-$ are presented as a function of the axion-like particle mass in the range $5-200\ \mathrm{MeV}/c^{2}$.

Measurement of time-dependent $CP$ asymmetries in $B^0 \to K_{\rm S}^0 \: π^{+} π^{-} γ$ decays at Belle and Belle II

We present a measurement of the time-dependent $CP$ asymmetry in $B^0 \to K_{\rm S}^0 \: π^{+} π^{-} γ$ decays using a data set of 365 fb$^{-1}$ recorded by the Belle II experiment and the final data set of 711 fb$^{-1}$ recorded by the Belle experiment at the ${\rm Υ(4S)}$ resonance. The direct and mixing-induced time-dependent $CP$ violation parameters $C$ and $S$ are determined along with two additional quantities, $S^{+}$ and $S^{-}$, defined in the two halves of the $m^2(K_{\rm S}^0 π^{+})-m^2(K_{\rm S}^0 π^{-})$ plane. The measured values are $C = -0.17 \pm 0.09 \pm 0.04$, $S = -0.29 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.05$, $S^{+} = -0.57 \pm 0.23 \pm 0.10$ and $S^{-} = 0.31 \pm 0.24 \pm 0.05$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.
