Extracting Signal Electron Trajectories in the COMET Phase-I Cylindrical Drift Chamber Using Deep Learning

We present a pioneering approach to tracking analysis within the COMET Phase-I experiment, which aims to search for the charged lepton flavor violating $μ\to e$ conversion process in a muonic atom, at J-PARC, Japan. This paper specifically introduces the extraction of signal electron trajectories in the COMET Phase-I cylindrical drift chamber (CDC) amidst a high background hit rate, with more than $40\,\%$ occupancy of the total CDC cells, utilizing deep learning techniques of semantic segmentation. Our model achieved remarkable results, with a purity rate of $98\,\%$ and a retention rate of $90\,\%$ for CDC cells with signal hits, surpassing the design-goal performance of $90\,\%$ for both metrics. This study marks the initial application of deep learning to COMET tracking, paving the way for more advanced techniques in future research.

Efficient Ternary Weight Embedding Model: Bridging Scalability and Performance

Embedding models have become essential tools in both natural language processing and computer vision, enabling efficient semantic search, recommendation, clustering, and more. However, the high memory and computational demands of full-precision embeddings pose challenges for deployment in resource-constrained environments, such as real-time recommendation systems. In this work, we propose a novel finetuning framework to ternary-weight embedding models, which reduces memory and computational overhead while maintaining high performance. To apply ternarization to pre-trained embedding models, we introduce self-taught knowledge distillation to finalize the ternary-weights of the linear layers. With extensive experiments on public text and vision datasets, we demonstrated that without sacrificing effectiveness, the ternarized model consumes low memory usage and has low latency in the inference stage with great efficiency. In practical implementations, embedding models are typically integrated with Approximate Nearest Neighbor (ANN) search. Our experiments combining ternary embedding with ANN search yielded impressive improvement in both accuracy and computational efficiency. The repository is available at here.

TSFormer: A Robust Framework for Efficient UHD Image Restoration

Ultra-high-definition (UHD) image restoration is vital for applications demanding exceptional visual fidelity, yet existing methods often face a trade-off between restoration quality and efficiency, limiting their practical deployment. In this paper, we propose TSFormer, an all-in-one framework that integrates \textbf{T}rusted learning with \textbf{S}parsification to boost both generalization capability and computational efficiency in UHD image restoration. The key is that only a small amount of token movement is allowed within the model. To efficiently filter tokens, we use Min-$p$ with random matrix theory to quantify the uncertainty of tokens, thereby improving the robustness of the model. Our model can run a 4K image in real time (40fps) with 3.38 M parameters. Extensive experiments demonstrate that TSFormer achieves state-of-the-art restoration quality while enhancing generalization and reducing computational demands. In addition, our token filtering method can be applied to other image restoration models to effectively accelerate inference and maintain performance.

Dropout the High-rate Downsampling: A Novel Design Paradigm for UHD Image Restoration

With the popularization of high-end mobile devices, Ultra-high-definition (UHD) images have become ubiquitous in our lives. The restoration of UHD images is a highly challenging problem due to the exaggerated pixel count, which often leads to memory overflow during processing. Existing methods either downsample UHD images at a high rate before processing or split them into multiple patches for separate processing. However, high-rate downsampling leads to significant information loss, while patch-based approaches inevitably introduce boundary artifacts. In this paper, we propose a novel design paradigm to solve the UHD image restoration problem, called D2Net. D2Net enables direct full-resolution inference on UHD images without the need for high-rate downsampling or dividing the images into several patches. Specifically, we ingeniously utilize the characteristics of the frequency domain to establish long-range dependencies of features. Taking into account the richer local patterns in UHD images, we also design a multi-scale convolutional group to capture local features. Additionally, during the decoding stage, we dynamically incorporate features from the encoding stage to reduce the flow of irrelevant information. Extensive experiments on three UHD image restoration tasks, including low-light image enhancement, image dehazing, and image deblurring, show that our model achieves better quantitative and qualitative results than state-of-the-art methods.

First Proof of Principle Experiment for Muon Production with Ultrashort High Intensity Laser

Muons, which play a crucial role in both fundamental and applied physics, have traditionally been generated through proton accelerators or from cosmic rays. With the advent of ultra-short high-intensity lasers capable of accelerating electrons to GeV levels, it has become possible to generate muons in laser laboratories. In this work, we show the first proof of principle experiment for novel muon production with an ultra-short, high-intensity laser device through GeV electron beam bombardment on a lead converter target. The muon physical signal is confirmed by measuring its lifetime which is the first clear demonstration of laser-produced muons. Geant4 simulations were employed to investigate the photo-production, electro-production, and Bethe-Heitler processes response for muon generation and their subsequent detection. The results show that the dominant contributions of muons are attributed to the photo-production/electro-production and a significant yield of muons up to 0.01 $μ$/$e^-$ out of the converter target could be achieved. This laser muon source features compact, ultra-short pulse and high flux. Moreover, its implementation in a small laser laboratory is relatively straightforward, significantly reducing the barriers to entry for research in areas such as muonic X-ray elemental analysis, muon spin spectroscopy and so on.

Effects of Phi and $σ^{*}$-meson on properties of hyperon stars including $Δ$ resonance

In this work, we study the properties of neutron stars using the linear Relativistic Mean-Field (RMF) theory and consider multiple degrees of freedom inside neutron stars, including hyperons and $Δ$ resonances. We investigate different coupling parameters $x_{σΔ}$ between $Δ$ resonances and nucleons and compare the differences between neutron stars with and without strange mesons $σ^*$ and $ϕ$. These effects include particle number distributions, equations of state (EOS), mass-radius relations, and tidal deformabilities. To overcome the "hyperon puzzle," we employ the $σ-cut$ scheme to obtain neutron stars with masses up to $2M_{\odot}$. We find that strange mesons appear at around 3$ρ_0$ and reduce the critical density of baryons in the high-density region. With increasing coupling parameter $x_{σΔ}$, the $Δ$ resonances suppress hyperons, leading to a shift of the critical density towards lower values. The early appearance of $Δ$ resonances may play a crucial role in the stability of neutron stars. Strange mesons soften the EOS slightly, while $Δ$ resonances predominantly soften the EOS in the low-density region. By calculating tidal deformabilities and comparing with astronomical observation GW170817, we find that the inclusion of $Δ$ resonances decreases the radius of neutron stars.

HorGait: A Hybrid Model for Accurate Gait Recognition in LiDAR Point Cloud Planar Projections

Gait recognition is a remote biometric technology that utilizes the dynamic characteristics of human movement to identify individuals even under various extreme lighting conditions. Due to the limitation in spatial perception capability inherent in 2D gait representations, LiDAR can directly capture 3D gait features and represent them as point clouds, reducing environmental and lighting interference in recognition while significantly advancing privacy protection. For complex 3D representations, shallow networks fail to achieve accurate recognition, making vision Transformers the foremost prevalent method. However, the prevalence of dumb patches has limited the widespread use of Transformer architecture in gait recognition. This paper proposes a method named HorGait, which utilizes a hybrid model with a Transformer architecture for gait recognition on the planar projection of 3D point clouds from LiDAR. Specifically, it employs a hybrid model structure called LHM Block to achieve input adaptation, long-range, and high-order spatial interaction of the Transformer architecture. Additionally, it uses large convolutional kernel CNNs to segment the input representation, replacing attention windows to reduce dumb patches. We conducted extensive experiments, and the results show that HorGait achieves state-of-the-art performance among Transformer architecture methods on the SUSTech1K dataset, verifying that the hybrid model can complete the full Transformer process and perform better in point cloud planar projection. The outstanding performance of HorGait offers new insights for the future application of the Transformer architecture in gait recognition.

AMSNet: Netlist Dataset for AMS Circuits

Today's analog/mixed-signal (AMS) integrated circuit (IC) designs demand substantial manual intervention. The advent of multimodal large language models (MLLMs) has unveiled significant potential across various fields, suggesting their applicability in streamlining large-scale AMS IC design as well. A bottleneck in employing MLLMs for automatic AMS circuit generation is the absence of a comprehensive dataset delineating the schematic-netlist relationship. We therefore design an automatic technique for converting schematics into netlists, and create dataset AMSNet, encompassing transistor-level schematics and corresponding SPICE format netlists. With a growing size, AMSNet can significantly facilitate exploration of MLLM applications in AMS circuit design. We have made an initial set of netlists public, and will make both our netlist generation tool and the full dataset available upon publishing of this paper.

MixNet: Efficient Global Modeling for Ultra-High-Definition Image Restoration

Recent advancements in image restoration methods employing global modeling have shown promising results. However, these approaches often incur substantial memory requirements, particularly when processing ultra-high-definition (UHD) images. In this paper, we propose a novel image restoration method called MixNet, which introduces an alternative approach to global modeling approaches and is more effective for UHD image restoration. To capture the longrange dependency of features without introducing excessive computational complexity, we present the Global Feature Modulation Layer (GFML). GFML associates features from different views by permuting the feature maps, enabling efficient modeling of long-range dependency. In addition, we also design the Local Feature Modulation Layer (LFML) and Feed-forward Layer (FFL) to capture local features and transform features into a compact representation. This way, our MixNetachieves effective restoration with low inference time overhead and computational complexity. We conduct extensive experiments on four UHD image restoration tasks, including low-light image enhancement, underwater image enhancement, image deblurring and image demoireing, and the comprehensive results demonstrate that our proposed method surpasses the performance of current state-of-the-art methods. The code will be available at \url{https://github.com/5chen/MixNet}.

BrainDreamer: Reasoning-Coherent and Controllable Image Generation from EEG Brain Signals via Language Guidance

Can we directly visualize what we imagine in our brain together with what we describe? The inherent nature of human perception reveals that, when we think, our body can combine language description and build a vivid picture in our brain. Intuitively, generative models should also hold such versatility. In this paper, we introduce BrainDreamer, a novel end-to-end language-guided generative framework that can mimic human reasoning and generate high-quality images from electroencephalogram (EEG) brain signals. Our method is superior in its capacity to eliminate the noise introduced by non-invasive EEG data acquisition and meanwhile achieve a more precise mapping between the EEG and image modality, thus leading to significantly better-generated images. Specifically, BrainDreamer consists of two key learning stages: 1) modality alignment and 2) image generation. In the alignment stage, we propose a novel mask-based triple contrastive learning strategy to effectively align EEG, text, and image embeddings to learn a unified representation. In the generation stage, we inject the EEG embeddings into the pre-trained Stable Diffusion model by designing a learnable EEG adapter to generate high-quality reasoning-coherent images. Moreover, BrainDreamer can accept textual descriptions (e.g., color, position, etc.) to achieve controllable image generation. Extensive experiments show that our method significantly outperforms prior arts in terms of generating quality and quantitative performance.

DAP-LED: Learning Degradation-Aware Priors with CLIP for Joint Low-light Enhancement and Deblurring

Autonomous vehicles and robots often struggle with reliable visual perception at night due to the low illumination and motion blur caused by the long exposure time of RGB cameras. Existing methods address this challenge by sequentially connecting the off-the-shelf pretrained low-light enhancement and deblurring models. Unfortunately, these methods often lead to noticeable artifacts (\eg, color distortions) in the over-exposed regions or make it hardly possible to learn the motion cues of the dark regions. In this paper, we interestingly find vision-language models, \eg, Contrastive Language-Image Pretraining (CLIP), can comprehensively perceive diverse degradation levels at night. In light of this, we propose a novel transformer-based joint learning framework, named DAP-LED, which can jointly achieve low-light enhancement and deblurring, benefiting downstream tasks, such as depth estimation, segmentation, and detection in the dark. The key insight is to leverage CLIP to adaptively learn the degradation levels from images at night. This subtly enables learning rich semantic information and visual representation for optimization of the joint tasks. To achieve this, we first introduce a CLIP-guided cross-fusion module to obtain multi-scale patch-wise degradation heatmaps from the image embeddings. Then, the heatmaps are fused via the designed CLIP-enhanced transformer blocks to retain useful degradation information for effective model optimization. Experimental results show that, compared to existing methods, our DAP-LED achieves state-of-the-art performance in the dark. Meanwhile, the enhanced results are demonstrated to be effective for three downstream tasks. For demo and more results, please check the project page: \url{https://vlislab22.github.io/dap-led/}.

SpheriGait: Enriching Spatial Representation via Spherical Projection for LiDAR-based Gait Recognition

Gait recognition is a rapidly progressing technique for the remote identification of individuals. Prior research predominantly employing 2D sensors to gather gait data has achieved notable advancements; nonetheless, they have unavoidably neglected the influence of 3D dynamic characteristics on recognition. Gait recognition utilizing LiDAR 3D point clouds not only directly captures 3D spatial features but also diminishes the impact of lighting conditions while ensuring privacy protection. The essence of the problem lies in how to effectively extract discriminative 3D dynamic representation from point clouds. In this paper, we proposes a method named SpheriGait for extracting and enhancing dynamic features from point clouds for Lidar-based gait recognition. Specifically, it substitutes the conventional point cloud plane projection method with spherical projection to augment the perception of dynamic feature.Additionally, a network block named DAM-L is proposed to extract gait cues from the projected point cloud data. We conducted extensive experiments and the results demonstrated the SpheriGait achieved state-of-the-art performance on the SUSTech1K dataset, and verified that the spherical projection method can serve as a universal data preprocessing technique to enhance the performance of other LiDAR-based gait recognition methods, exhibiting exceptional flexibility and practicality.

LLM-Enhanced Software Patch Localization

Open source software (OSS) is integral to modern product development, and any vulnerability within it potentially compromises numerous products. While developers strive to apply security patches, pinpointing these patches among extensive OSS updates remains a challenge. Security patch localization (SPL) recommendation methods are leading approaches to address this. However, existing SPL models often falter when a commit lacks a clear association with its corresponding CVE, and do not consider a scenario that a vulnerability has multiple patches proposed over time before it has been fully resolved. To address these challenges, we introduce LLM-SPL, a recommendation-based SPL approach that leverages the capabilities of the Large Language Model (LLM) to locate the security patch commit for a given CVE. More specifically, we propose a joint learning framework, in which the outputs of LLM serves as additional features to aid our recommendation model in prioritizing security patches. Our evaluation on a dataset of 1,915 CVEs associated with 2,461 patches demonstrates that LLM-SPL excels in ranking patch commits, surpassing the state-of-the-art method in terms of Recall, while significantly reducing manual effort. Notably, for vulnerabilities requiring multiple patches, LLM-SPL significantly improves Recall by 22.83\%, NDCG by 19.41\%, and reduces manual effort by over 25\% when checking up to the top 10 rankings. Multi-Scale Representation Learning for Image Restoration with State-Space Model

Image restoration endeavors to reconstruct a high-quality, detail-rich image from a degraded counterpart, which is a pivotal process in photography and various computer vision systems. In real-world scenarios, different types of degradation can cause the loss of image details at various scales and degrade image contrast. Existing methods predominantly rely on CNN and Transformer to capture multi-scale representations. However, these methods are often limited by the high computational complexity of Transformers and the constrained receptive field of CNN, which hinder them from achieving superior performance and efficiency in image restoration. To address these challenges, we propose a novel Multi-Scale State-Space Model-based (MS-Mamba) for efficient image restoration that enhances the capacity for multi-scale representation learning through our proposed global and regional SSM modules. Additionally, an Adaptive Gradient Block (AGB) and a Residual Fourier Block (RFB) are proposed to improve the network's detail extraction capabilities by capturing gradients in various directions and facilitating learning details in the frequency domain. Extensive experiments on nine public benchmarks across four classic image restoration tasks, image deraining, dehazing, denoising, and low-light enhancement, demonstrate that our proposed method achieves new state-of-the-art performance while maintaining low computational complexity. The source code will be publicly available.

Review Learning: Advancing All-in-One Ultra-High-Definition Image Restoration Training Method

All-in-one image restoration tasks are becoming increasingly important, especially for ultra-high-definition (UHD) images. Existing all-in-one UHD image restoration methods usually boost the model's performance by introducing prompt or customized dynamized networks for different degradation types. For the inference stage, it might be friendly, but in the training stage, since the model encounters multiple degraded images of different quality in an epoch, these cluttered learning objectives might be information pollution for the model. To address this problem, we propose a new training paradigm for general image restoration models, which we name \textbf{Review Learning}, which enables image restoration models to be capable enough to handle multiple types of degradation without prior knowledge and prompts. This approach begins with sequential training of an image restoration model on several degraded datasets, combined with a review mechanism that enhances the image restoration model's memory for several previous classes of degraded datasets. In addition, we design a lightweight all-purpose image restoration network that can efficiently reason about degraded images with 4K ($3840 \times 2160$) resolution on a single consumer-grade GPU.

Towards Ultra-High-Definition Image Deraining: A Benchmark and An Efficient Method

Despite significant progress has been made in image deraining, existing approaches are mostly carried out on low-resolution images. The effectiveness of these methods on high-resolution images is still unknown, especially for ultra-high-definition (UHD) images, given the continuous advancement of imaging devices. In this paper, we focus on the task of UHD image deraining, and contribute the first large-scale UHD image deraining dataset, 4K-Rain13k, that contains 13,000 image pairs at 4K resolution. Based on this dataset, we conduct a benchmark study on existing methods for processing UHD images. Furthermore, we develop an effective and efficient vision MLP-based architecture (UDR-Mixer) to better solve this task. Specifically, our method contains two building components: a spatial feature rearrangement layer that captures long-range information of UHD images, and a frequency feature modulation layer that facilitates high-quality UHD image reconstruction. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that our method performs favorably against the state-of-the-art approaches while maintaining a lower model complexity. The code and dataset will be available at https://github.com/cschenxiang/UDR-Mixer.

Determination of the resonant parameters of chi_c0(3915) with global fit

The chi_c0(3915) was observed firstly by the Belle experiment in the omega J/psi invariant mass spectrum in the process B -> K omegaJ/psi, and then confirmed by the Babar experiment. The two experiments reported the resonant parameters of this particle in the both processes gammagamma -> omegaJ/psi and B -> K omega J/psi by assuming chi_c0(3915) as a S-wave Breit-Wigner resonance. We perform a global fit to the distributions of invariant mass of omega J/psi measured by the Belle and Babar experiments, and incorporate the measurement by the LHCb experiment additionally to extract the mass and width of chi_c0(3915). We obtain M = 3921.0 +/- 0.9 MeV/c2 and Gamma = 17.9 +/- 2.4 MeV which are consistent with the values on PDG within one standard deviation but with improved precision.

C2F-SemiCD: A Coarse-to-Fine Semi-Supervised Change Detection Method Based on Consistency Regularization in High-Resolution Remote Sensing Images

A high-precision feature extraction model is crucial for change detection (CD). In the past, many deep learning-based supervised CD methods learned to recognize change feature patterns from a large number of labelled bi-temporal images, whereas labelling bi-temporal remote sensing images is very expensive and often time-consuming; therefore, we propose a coarse-to-fine semi-supervised CD method based on consistency regularization (C2F-SemiCD), which includes a coarse-to-fine CD network with a multiscale attention mechanism (C2FNet) and a semi-supervised update method. Among them, the C2FNet network gradually completes the extraction of change features from coarse-grained to fine-grained through multiscale feature fusion, channel attention mechanism, spatial attention mechanism, global context module, feature refine module, initial aggregation module, and final aggregation module. The semi-supervised update method uses the mean teacher method. The parameters of the student model are updated to the parameters of the teacher Model by using the exponential moving average (EMA) method. Through extensive experiments on three datasets and meticulous ablation studies, including crossover experiments across datasets, we verify the significant effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed C2F-SemiCD method. The code will be open at: https://github.com/ChengxiHAN/C2F-SemiCDand-C2FNet.
