Stochastic gravitational wave from graviton bremsstrahlung in inflaton decay into massive spin 3/2 particles

The detection of primordial gravitational waves would offer a direct evidence of inflation and valuable insights into the dynamics of the early universe. During post-inflation reheating period, when the inflaton coherently oscillates at the bottom of its potential, primordial stochastic gravitational waves may be sourced by its perturbative decay into particles of different spins. Assuming the behavior of the potential near the minimum as a polynomial $V(\phi)\sim \phi^k$, where $k\ge 2$, and treating the inflaton as coherently oscillating classical field, we calculate the decay of inflaton into a pair of spin $3/2$ particles accompanied by graviton emission. We numerically study the reheating dynamics and calculate the stochastic gravitational wave spectra. Our analysis shows that the gravitational wave spectra can offer insights into the microscopic physics during inflation.

Preheating and gravitational waves in large-field hilltop inflation

The combined Planck, BICEP/Keck Array and BAO measurements of the scalar spectral index and the tensor-to-scalar ratio from the cosmic microwave background observations severely constrain or completely rule out several models of inflationary potentials. On the other hand, the data seems to favor concave potentials over convex ones. In this paper, we study preheating and gravitational waves after inflation in a large-field, regularized hilltop potential where inflation takes place in the concave plateau. The inflaton, $\phi$, is coupled to a subdominant scalar field, $\chi$, through a quartic coupling. After inflation ends, $\phi$ oscillates about the potential minimum and becomes inhomogeneous. The growth of the fluctuation modes, $\delta\phi_k$ and $\delta\chi_k$, in a homogeneous, oscillating background is analyzed in linear perturbation theory, revealing that small modes likely experience broad self-resonance or external parametric resonance. To determine if the resonances are sufficiently strong to cause unstable growth of the modes we perform a lattice simulation. The lattice simulations demonstrate that, although the initial inhomogeneities generate a stochastic gravitational wave background that remains below the present observational limit, the fluctuations do not grow exponentially, and the occupation numbers of $\delta\phi_k$ and $\delta\chi_k$ remain close to zero.

$\Lambda_b \to \Lambda^{(\ast)}\nu\bar{\nu}$ decays and the recent Belle-II $B^+\to K^+\nu\bar{\nu}$ data

The Belle-II experiment has recently reported the first measurement of $B^+ \to K^+ \nu\bar{\nu}$ decay which exceeds the Standard Model prediction by approximately 2.7$\sigma$. The deviation may indicate the presence of new physics beyond the Standard Model in the $b\to s\nu\bar{\nu}$ sector. Under this assumption, we study the hadronic $\Lambda_b \to \Lambda(\to p\pi)\nu\bar{\nu}$ and $\Lambda_b \to \Lambda^\ast(\to N\!\bar{K})\nu\bar{\nu}$ decays within both the Standard Model and beyond. We work in a low energy effective field theory framework with additional light right-handed neutrinos. We calculate the differential branching ratios of these decay modes and explore the implications of the Belle-II results through various observables.

A Remote Control Painting System for Exterior Walls of High-Rise Buildings through Robotic System

Exterior painting of high-rise buildings is a challenging task. In our country, as well as in other countries of the world, this task is accomplished manually, which is risky and life-threatening for the workers. Researchers and industry experts are trying to find an automatic and robotic solution for the exterior painting of high-rise building walls. In this paper, we propose a solution to this problem. We design and implement a prototype for automatically painting the building walls' exteriors. A spray mechanism was introduced in the prototype that can move in four different directions (up-down and left-right). All the movements are achieved by using microcontroller-operated servo motors. Further, these components create a scope to upgrade the proposed remote-controlled system to a robotic system in the future. In the presented system, all the operations are controlled remotely from a smartphone interface. Bluetooth technology is used for remote communications. It is expected that the suggested system will improve productivity with better workplace safety.

Vector leptoquark contributions to lepton dipole moments

Leptoquarks (LQs) can contribute to the magnetic and electric dipole moments of charged leptons, which the current experiments have measured with good accuracy. We revisit the parameter spaces of TeV-scale vector LQs that contribute to these observables and study how these models fare against the LHC bounds. We show that significant portions of the parameter space are excluded when the current LHC data is utilised effectively. We find that only $U_1$ and $V_2$ can explain the observed positive shift in $(a_\mu^{\rm exp} - a_\mu^{\rm SM})$ through a lepton chirality-flipping contribution with $\mathcal O(1)$ LQ-quark-lepton coupling. We also see how these two LQs can fit the electron dipole moment and atomic parity violation measurements. We find that the current electric dipole moment measurements of the muon cannot restrain the LQ-quark-lepton couplings within perturbative regions.

Soft photon corrections in $B \to K^{(\ast)} \ell^+ \ell^-$ and $\Lambda_b \to \Lambda^{(\ast)} \ell^+ \ell^-$ decays

We calculate QED corrections to the semileptonic decays $H_1 \to H_2\ell^+\ell^-$ where $\ell=e, \mu$ and $H_{1,2}$ are hadrons. The soft and/or collinear divergences are regulated in a gauge-invariant manner and demonstrably cancel, leaving behind a finite residue that depends on the (infrared) momentum cutoff below which a photon is considered to be indistinguishable. On resuming, the said sensitivity reduces drastically, $\mathcal{i}$.$\mathcal{e}$., for the NLL result as compared to the NLO one. The overall correction is negative and its magnitude is larger for a lighter lepton. For $B \to K^{(*)}$ decays, the corrections improve the agreement for the differential distributions, while the behavior is more complicated for $\Lambda_b \to \Lambda^{(*)}$ decays. Rather intriguingly, the corrections serve to regenerate the tension for the lepton flavor universality observables $R_K$ and $R_{K^*}$.

$\Lambda_b\rightarrow \Lambda(\to p \pi^-) \ell^+\ell^-$ as probe of CP-violating New Physics

We investigate the possible sizes of all the CP-violating asymmetries offered by the angular distribution of rare decay $\Lambda_b\rightarrow \Lambda(\to p \pi^-) \ell^+\ell^-$ in the Standard Model and new physics scenarios motivated by the recent $b\to s \ell^+\ell^-$ anomalies. We work in a model-independent effective theory framework and discuss the sensitivity of CP asymmetries to new ${O}_{9,10}$ operators and their chirality flipped counterparts. We find that the size of many of the CP asymmetries can be at the level of a few percent in new physics scenarios consistent with current $b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$ data at a level of $1\sigma$. We emphasize that measurements of these CP asymmetries can be used to discriminate different new physics scenarios in $b\to s \ell^+\ell^-$.

Renormalization group improved $m_s$ and $\vert V_{us}\vert$ determination from hadronic $\tau$ decays

We determine the strange quark mass ($m_s$) and quark mixing element $\vert V_{us}\vert $, and their joint determination from the Cabibbo suppressed hadronic $\tau$ decays in various perturbative schemes. Compared to the previous analysis based on the optimal renormalization or the renormalization group summed perturbation theory (RGSPT) scheme, we have improved this analysis by replacing the theoretical longitudinal contributions with phenomenological parametrization, and the RGSPT coefficients are used for the dimension-4 Adler functions. The improved analysis results in the extraction of $m_s(2\,\mathrm{GeV})=98\pm19\,\mathrm{MeV}$ and $\vert V_{us}\vert=0.2191\pm0.0043$ from the RGSPT scheme.

Precise LHC limits on the $\rm{U}_1$ leptoquark parameter space

A TeV scale leptoquark (LQ) is one of the promising explanations of the recent anomalies in the semileptonic decays of $B$ mesons. Among the various LQs, the vector $\rm{U}_1$ is capable of explaining the anomalies in both $R_{D^{(*)}}$ and $R_{K^{(*)}}$ observables. We use the current LHC data to put bounds on the parameter space of $\rm{U}_1$ relevant for the anomalies. Precise bounds are drawn by recasting the latest $\tau\tau$ and $\mu\mu$ searches by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations. We find that it is imperative to include the resonant production modes for obtaining limits in the low mass regions. For higher mass points, the non-resonant production modes play a dominant role.

Sterile neutrinos in $\Lambda_b^0\to (\Lambda_c^+,p^+)\ell^-_1\ell^-_2\ell^+_3\nu$ decays

We study lepton number violating and lepton number conserving semi-leptonic decays of heavy baryons $\Lambda_b^0$ to three charged leptons and a neutrino. The decays occur through two intermediate quasi-degenerate GeV-scale sterile neutrinos of either Majorana or Dirac type that can be on-shell. Interference between the intermediate heavy neutrinos leads to CP violation in the final states. Effect of neutrino oscillations between the heavy states are also considered in observables of interests, \emph{i.e.,} branching ratio, and the CP-asymmetry. Given the present constraints on the heavy-to-light mixing elements $|V_{eN}|$ and $|V_{\mu N}|$, CP-averaged branching ratio of $\Lambda_b^0\to (\Lambda_c,p)\mu\mu e\nu$ with intermediate Majorana neutrinos is almost two orders of magnitude larger than for the same with Dirac neutrinos, whereas, CP-averaged branching ratio of $\Lambda_b^0\to (\Lambda_c,p)ee\mu\nu$ is of the same order of magnitude for both Majorana and Dirac neutrino induced decays. CP-violation is found to be appreciable when the neutrino mass difference is comparable with the average decay widths.

Precise limits on the charge-$2/3$ $U_1$ vector leptoquark

The $U_1$ leptoquark is known to be a suitable candidate for explaining the semileptonic $B$-decay anomalies. We derive precise limits on its parameter space relevant for the anomalies from the current LHC high-$p_{\rm T}$ dilepton data. We consider an exhaustive list of possible $B$-anomalies-motivated simple scenarios with one or two new couplings that can also be used as templates for obtaining bounds on more complicated scenarios. To obtain precise limits, we systematically consider all possible $U_1$ production processes that can contribute to the dilepton searches, including the resonant pair and single productions, nonresonant $t$-channel $U_1$ exchange, as well as its large interference with the Standard Model background. We demonstrate how the inclusion of resonant production contributions in the dilepton signal can lead to appreciably improved exclusion limits. We point out new search channels of $U_1$ that can act as unique tests of the flavour-motivated models. The template scenarios can also be used for future $U_1$ searches at the LHC. We compare the LHC limits with other relevant flavour bounds and find that a TeV-scale $U_1$ can accommodate both $R_{D^{(*)}}$ and $R_{K^{(*)}}$ anomalies while satisfying all the bounds.

CP violation with GeV-scale Majorana neutrino in $\Lambda_b\to(\Lambda_c^+, p^+)\pi^+\mu^-\mu^-$ decays

We explore the possibility of CP violation in baryonic $\Lambda_b\to(\Lambda_c^+, p^+)\pi^+\mu^-\mu^-$ decays which are mediated by two Majorana sterile neutrino and are $|\Delta L|=2$ lepton number violating processes. Appreciable CP asymmetry can be obtained if there are two on-shell Majorana neutrinos that are quasi-degenerate in mass with the mass difference of the order of average decay widths. We find that given the present constraints on the heavy to light mixing element $|V_{\mu N}|$, the $\Lambda_b\to p^+\pi^+\mu^-\mu^-$ and $\Lambda_b\to \Lambda_c^+\pi^+\mu^-\mu^-$ decay rates are suppressed but could be within the experimental reach at the LHC. If searches of the modes are performed, then experimental limits on the rates can be translated to constraints on the Majorana neutrino mass $m_N$ and heavy to light mixing element squared $|V_{\mu N}|^2$. We show that the constraints on the $(m_N, |V_{\mu N}|^2)$ parameter space coming from the $|\Delta L| = 2$ baryonic decays are complementary to the bounds coming from other processes.

Polarized $\Lambda_b$ baryon decay to $p\pi$ and a dilepton pair

The recent anomalies in $b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$ transitions could originate from some New Physics beyond the Standard Model. Either to confirm or to rule out this assumption, more tests of $b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$ transition are needed. Polarized $\Lambda_b$ decay to a $\Lambda$ and a dilepton pair offers a plethora of observables that are suitable to discriminate New Physics from the Standard Model. In this paper, we present a full angular analysis of a polarized $\Lambda_b$ decay to a $\Lambda(\to p\pi)\ell^+\ell^-$ final state. The study is performed in a set of the operator where the Standard Model operator basis is supplemented with its chirality flipped counterparts, and new scalar and pseudo-scalar operators. The full angular distribution is calculated by retaining the mass of the final state leptons. At the low hadronic recoil, we use the Heavy Quark Effective Theory framework to relate the hadronic form factors which lead to simplified expression of the angular observables where short- and long-distance physics factorize. Using the factorized expressions of the observables, we construct a number of tests of short- and long-distance physics including null tests of the Standard Model and its chirality flipped counterparts that can be carried out using experimental data.

Test of analyticity and unitarity for the pion form-factor data around the $\rho$ resonance

High-statistics data on the $e^+e^-\to \pi^+\pi^-$ cross section and the pion vector form factor have been obtained recently by several collaborations. Unfortunately, there are some tensions between different datasets, especially the most precise ones, which have not been resolved so far. Additional independent constraints on the data are therefore of interest. We consider a parametrization-free method of analytic extrapolation proposed recently, which is based on a mixed phase and modulus extremal problem and combines rigorous upper and lower bounds with numerical simulations to account for the statistical distributions of the input and output values. Spacelike data on the form factor and measurements of the modulus in the region $(0.65-0.71)$ GeV are used as input. In previous works, the formalism was applied for extrapolating the form factor to low energies. In the present work, we use it as a stringent and model-independent test of consistency with analyticity and unitarity for the high-statistics data around the $\rho$ resonance. The study reveals some inconsistencies, in particular below the $\rho$ peak the BABAR data are slightly higher than the band of extrapolated values, while above the $\rho$ peak all the data are situated at the lower edge of the band. The implications of the results on the two-pion vacuuum polarization contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon are briefly discussed.

The QCD Static Energy using Optimal Renormalization and Asymptotic Pad\'e-approximant Methods

The perturbative QCD static potential and ultrasoft contributions, which together give the static energy, have been calculated to three- and four-loop order respectively, by several authors. Using the renormalization group, and Pad\'e approximants, we estimate the four-loop corrections to the static energy. We also employ the optimal renormalization method and resum the logarithms of the perturbative series in order to reduce sensitivity to the renormalization scale in momentum space. This is the first application of the method to results at these orders. The convergence behaviour of the perturbative series is also improved in position space using the Restricted Fourier Transform scheme. Using optimal renormalization, we have extracted the value of $\Lambda^{\overline{\textrm{MS}}}_{\textrm{QCD}}$ at different scales for two active flavours by matching to the static energy from lattice QCD simulations.

The $\Lambda_b\to\Lambda^\ast(1520)(\to N\!\bar{K})\ell^+\ell^-$ decay at low-recoil in HQET

In this paper we discuss the Standard Model and new physics sensitivity of the $\Lambda_b\to\Lambda^\ast(1520)(\to N\!\bar{K})\ell^+\ell^-$ decay at low-recoil, where $\ell^\pm$ are massive leptons and $N\!\bar{K}=\{pK^-, n\bar{K}^0 \}$. We provide a full angular distribution with a set of operators that includes the Standard Model operators and their chirality flipped counterparts, and new scalar and pseudo-scalar operators. The resulting angular distribution allows us to construct observables that we study in the Standard Model and in model-independent new physics scenarios. To reduce the hadronic effects emanating from the $\Lambda_b\to\Lambda^\ast(1520)$ transition form factors, we exploit the Heavy Quark Effective theory framework valid at low $\Lambda^\ast(1520)$ recoil, \emph{i.e.,} large dilepton invariant mass squared $q^2\sim \mathcal{O}(m_b^2)$. Working to the leading order in $1/m_b$ and including $\mathcal{O}(\alpha_s)$ corrections, we compute the `improved Isgur-Wise relations' between the form factors. The relations correlate the form factors and thereby allow the description of this decay at the low-recoil region with a smaller number of independent form factors.

Lepton flavor violating $\Lambda_b\to\Lambda\ell_1\ell_2$ decay

Inspired by the recent hints of lepton flavor universality violation in $b\to s\ell\ell$ and $b\to c\ell\nu$ transitions, we study lepton flavor violating exclusive $\Lambda_b\to\Lambda\ell_1^+\ell_2^-$ ($\ell_1\neq \ell_2$) decay, which is forbidden in the Standard Model. Starting from a general effective Hamiltonian for a $b\to s\ell_1^+\ell_2^-$ transition that includes vector and axial-vector operators, and scalar and pseudo-scalar operators, we derive a two-fold decay distribution of $\Lambda_b\to\Lambda\ell_1^+\ell_2^-$. The distribution helps us to construct the differential branching ratio and the lepton side forward-backward asymmetry, which are studied in a vector leptoquark model. The parameter space of the vector leptoquark model is constrained by low energy observables.

$B\to K^\ast_2(1430)\ell^+\ell^-$ distributions in Standard Model at large recoil

We study the rare decay $B\to K_2^\ast(1430)(\to K\pi)\ell^+\ell^-$ in the Standard Model and beyond. Working in the transversity basis, we exploit the relations between the heavy-to-light form factors in the limit of heavy quark ($m_b\to \infty$) and large energy ($E_{K_2^\ast}\to \infty$) of the $K^\ast_2$ meson. This allows us to construct observables where at leading order in $\Lambda_{\rm QCD}/m_b$ and $\alpha_s$ the form factor dependence involving the $B\to K^\ast_2$ transitions cancels. Higher order corrections are systematically incorporated in the numerical analysis. In the Standard Model the decay has a sizable branching ratio and therefore a large number of events can be expected at LHCb. Going beyond the Standard Model, we explore the implications of the global fit to presently available $b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$ data on the $B\to K_2^\ast \ell^+\ell^-$ observables.
