CN-Celeb-AV: A Multi-Genre Audio-Visual Dataset for Person Recognition

Audio-visual person recognition (AVPR) has received extensive attention. However, most datasets used for AVPR research so far are collected in constrained environments, and thus cannot reflect the true performance of AVPR systems in real-world scenarios. To meet the request for research on AVPR in unconstrained conditions, this paper presents a multi-genre AVPR dataset collected `in the wild', named CN-Celeb-AV. This dataset contains more than 419k video segments from 1,136 persons from public media. In particular, we put more emphasis on two real-world complexities: (1) data in multiple genres; (2) segments with partial information. A comprehensive study was conducted to compare CN-Celeb-AV with two popular public AVPR benchmark datasets, and the results demonstrated that CN-Celeb-AV is more in line with real-world scenarios and can be regarded as a new benchmark dataset for AVPR research. The dataset also involves a development set that can be used to boost the performance of AVPR systems in real-life situations. The dataset is free for researchers and can be downloaded from http://cnceleb.org/.

Tracking Anything in High Quality

Visual object tracking is a fundamental video task in computer vision. Recently, the notably increasing power of perception algorithms allows the unification of single/multiobject and box/mask-based tracking. Among them, the Segment Anything Model (SAM) attracts much attention. In this report, we propose HQTrack, a framework for High Quality Tracking anything in videos. HQTrack mainly consists of a video multi-object segmenter (VMOS) and a mask refiner (MR). Given the object to be tracked in the initial frame of a video, VMOS propagates the object masks to the current frame. The mask results at this stage are not accurate enough since VMOS is trained on several closeset video object segmentation (VOS) datasets, which has limited ability to generalize to complex and corner scenes. To further improve the quality of tracking masks, a pretrained MR model is employed to refine the tracking results. As a compelling testament to the effectiveness of our paradigm, without employing any tricks such as test-time data augmentations and model ensemble, HQTrack ranks the 2nd place in the Visual Object Tracking and Segmentation (VOTS2023) challenge. Code and models are available at https://github.com/jiawen-zhu/HQTrack.

Topology-Preserving Automatic Labeling of Coronary Arteries via Anatomy-aware Connection Classifier

Automatic labeling of coronary arteries is an essential task in the practical diagnosis process of cardiovascular diseases. For experienced radiologists, the anatomically predetermined connections are important for labeling the artery segments accurately, while this prior knowledge is barely explored in previous studies. In this paper, we present a new framework called TopoLab which incorporates the anatomical connections into the network design explicitly. Specifically, the strategies of intra-segment feature aggregation and inter-segment feature interaction are introduced for hierarchical segment feature extraction. Moreover, we propose the anatomy-aware connection classifier to enable classification for each connected segment pair, which effectively exploits the prior topology among the arteries with different categories. To validate the effectiveness of our method, we contribute high-quality annotations of artery labeling to the public orCaScore dataset. The experimental results on both the orCaScore dataset and an in-house dataset show that our TopoLab has achieved state-of-the-art performance.

Mining Negative Temporal Contexts For False Positive Suppression In Real-Time Ultrasound Lesion Detection

During ultrasonic scanning processes, real-time lesion detection can assist radiologists in accurate cancer diagnosis. However, this essential task remains challenging and underexplored. General-purpose real-time object detection models can mistakenly report obvious false positives (FPs) when applied to ultrasound videos, potentially misleading junior radiologists. One key issue is their failure to utilize negative symptoms in previous frames, denoted as negative temporal contexts (NTC). To address this issue, we propose to extract contexts from previous frames, including NTC, with the guidance of inverse optical flow. By aggregating extracted contexts, we endow the model with the ability to suppress FPs by leveraging NTC. We call the resulting model UltraDet. The proposed UltraDet demonstrates significant improvement over previous state-of-the-arts and achieves real-time inference speed. We release the code, checkpoints, and high-quality labels of the CVA-BUS dataset in https://github.com/HaojunYu1998/UltraDet.

More Than React: Investigating The Role of Emoji Reaction in GitHub Pull Requests

Open source software development has become more social and collaborative, evident GitHub. Since 2016, GitHub started to support more informal methods such as emoji reactions, with the goal to reduce commenting noise when reviewing any code changes to a repository. From a code review context, the extent to which emoji reactions facilitate a more efficient review process is unknown. We conduct an empirical study to mine 1,850 active repositories across seven popular languages to analyze 365,811 Pull Requests (PRs) for their emoji reactions against the review time, first-time contributors, comment intentions, and the consistency of the sentiments. Answering these four research perspectives, we first find that the number of emoji reactions has a significant correlation with the review time. Second, our results show that a PR submitted by a first-time contributor is less likely to receive emoji reactions. Third, the results reveal that the comments with an intention of information giving, are more likely to receive an emoji reaction. Fourth, we observe that only a small proportion of sentiments are not consistent between comments and emoji reactions, i.e., with 11.8% of instances being identified. In these cases, the prevalent reason is when reviewers cheer up authors that admit to a mistake, i.e., acknowledge a mistake. Apart from reducing commenting noise, our work suggests that emoji reactions play a positive role in facilitating collaborative communication during the review process.

When Conversations Turn Into Work: A Taxonomy of Converted Discussions and Issues in GitHub

Popular and large contemporary open-source projects now embrace a diverse set of documentation for communication channels. Examples include contribution guidelines (i.e., commit message guidelines, coding rules, submission guidelines), code of conduct (i.e., rules and behavior expectations), governance policies, and Q&A forum. In 2020, GitHub released Discussion to distinguish between communication and collaboration. However, it remains unclear how developers maintain these channels, how trivial it is, and whether deciding on conversion takes time. We conducted an empirical study on 259 NPM and 148 PyPI repositories, devising two taxonomies of reasons for converting discussions into issues and vice-versa. The most frequent conversion from a discussion to an issue is when developers request a contributor to clarify their idea into an issue (Reporting a Clarification Request -35.1% and 34.7%, respectively), while agreeing that having non actionable topic (QA, ideas, feature requests -55.0% and 42.0%, respectively}) is the most frequent reason of converting an issue into a discussion. Furthermore, we show that not all reasons for conversion are trivial (e.g., not a bug), and raising a conversion intent potentially takes time (i.e., a median of 15.2 and 35.1 hours, respectively, taken from issues to discussions). Our work contributes to complementing the GitHub guidelines and helping developers effectively utilize the Issue and Discussion communication channels to maintain their collaboration.

Cross-Element Combinatorial Selection for Multi-Element Creative in Display Advertising

The effectiveness of ad creatives is greatly influenced by their visual appearance. Advertising platforms can generate ad creatives with different appearances by combining creative elements provided by advertisers. However, with the increasing number of ad creative elements, it becomes challenging to select a suitable combination from the countless possibilities. The industry's mainstream approach is to select individual creative elements independently, which often overlooks the importance of interaction between creative elements during the modeling process. In response, this paper proposes a Cross-Element Combinatorial Selection framework for multiple creative elements, termed CECS. In the encoder process, a cross-element interaction is adopted to dynamically adjust the expression of a single creative element based on the current candidate creatives. In the decoder process, the creative combination problem is transformed into a cascade selection problem of multiple creative elements. A pointer mechanism with a cascade design is used to model the associations among candidates. Comprehensive experiments on real-world datasets show that CECS achieved the SOTA score on offline metrics. Moreover, the CECS algorithm has been deployed in our industrial application, resulting in a significant 6.02% CTR and 10.37% GMV lift, which is beneficial to the business.

Polynomial-based Online Planning for Autonomous Drone Racing in Dynamic Environments

In recent years, there is a noteworthy advancement in autonomous drone racing. However, the primary focus is on attaining execution times, while scant attention is given to the challenges of dynamic environments. The high-speed nature of racing scenarios, coupled with the potential for unforeseeable environmental alterations, present stringent requirements for online replanning and its timeliness. For racing in dynamic environments, we propose an online replanning framework with an efficient polynomial trajectory representation. We trade off between aggressive speed and flexible obstacle avoidance based on an optimization approach. Additionally, to ensure safety and precision when crossing intermediate racing waypoints, we formulate the demand as hard constraints during planning. For dynamic obstacles, parallel multi-topology trajectory planning is designed based on engineering considerations to prevent racing time loss due to local optimums. The framework is integrated into a quadrotor system and successfully demonstrated at the DJI Robomaster Intelligent UAV Championship, where it successfully complete the racing track and placed first, finishing in less than half the time of the second-place.

A Collaborative Transfer Learning Framework for Cross-domain Recommendation

In the recommendation systems, there are multiple business domains to meet the diverse interests and needs of users, and the click-through rate(CTR) of each domain can be quite different, which leads to the demand for CTR prediction modeling for different business domains. The industry solution is to use domain-specific models or transfer learning techniques for each domain. The disadvantage of the former is that the data from other domains is not utilized by a single domain model, while the latter leverage all the data from different domains, but the fine-tuned model of transfer learning may trap the model in a local optimum of the source domain, making it difficult to fit the target domain. Meanwhile, significant differences in data quantity and feature schemas between different domains, known as domain shift, may lead to negative transfer in the process of transferring. To overcome these challenges, we propose the Collaborative Cross-Domain Transfer Learning Framework (CCTL). CCTL evaluates the information gain of the source domain on the target domain using a symmetric companion network and adjusts the information transfer weight of each source domain sample using the information flow network. This approach enables full utilization of other domain data while avoiding negative migration. Additionally, a representation enhancement network is used as an auxiliary task to preserve domain-specific features. Comprehensive experiments on both public and real-world industrial datasets, CCTL achieved SOTA score on offline metrics. At the same time, the CCTL algorithm has been deployed in Meituan, bringing 4.37% CTR and 5.43% GMV lift, which is significant to the business.

HSR-Diff:Hyperspectral Image Super-Resolution via Conditional Diffusion Models

Despite the proven significance of hyperspectral images (HSIs) in performing various computer vision tasks, its potential is adversely affected by the low-resolution (LR) property in the spatial domain, resulting from multiple physical factors. Inspired by recent advancements in deep generative models, we propose an HSI Super-resolution (SR) approach with Conditional Diffusion Models (HSR-Diff) that merges a high-resolution (HR) multispectral image (MSI) with the corresponding LR-HSI. HSR-Diff generates an HR-HSI via repeated refinement, in which the HR-HSI is initialized with pure Gaussian noise and iteratively refined. At each iteration, the noise is removed with a Conditional Denoising Transformer (CDF ormer) that is trained on denoising at different noise levels, conditioned on the hierarchical feature maps of HR-MSI and LR-HSI. In addition, a progressive learning strategy is employed to exploit the global information of full-resolution images. Systematic experiments have been conducted on four public datasets, demonstrating that HSR-Diff outperforms state-of-the-art methods.

TFN: An Interpretable Neural Network with Time-Frequency Transform Embedded for Intelligent Fault Diagnosis

Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are widely used in fault diagnosis of mechanical systems due to their powerful feature extraction and classification capabilities. However, the CNN is a typical black-box model, and the mechanism of CNN's decision-making are not clear, which limits its application in high-reliability-required fault diagnosis scenarios. To tackle this issue, we propose a novel interpretable neural network termed as Time-Frequency Network (TFN), where the physically meaningful time-frequency transform (TFT) method is embedded into the traditional convolutional layer as an adaptive preprocessing layer. This preprocessing layer named as time-frequency convolutional (TFconv) layer, is constrained by a well-designed kernel function to extract fault-related time-frequency information. It not only improves the diagnostic performance but also reveals the logical foundation of the CNN prediction in the frequency domain. Different TFT methods correspond to different kernel functions of the TFconv layer. In this study, four typical TFT methods are considered to formulate the TFNs and their effectiveness and interpretability are proved through three mechanical fault diagnosis experiments. Experimental results also show that the proposed TFconv layer can be easily generalized to other CNNs with different depths. The code of TFN is available on https://github.com/ChenQian0618/TFN.

Boosting Breast Ultrasound Video Classification by the Guidance of Keyframe Feature Centers

Breast ultrasound videos contain richer information than ultrasound images, therefore it is more meaningful to develop video models for this diagnosis task. However, the collection of ultrasound video datasets is much harder. In this paper, we explore the feasibility of enhancing the performance of ultrasound video classification using the static image dataset. To this end, we propose KGA-Net and coherence loss. The KGA-Net adopts both video clips and static images to train the network. The coherence loss uses the feature centers generated by the static images to guide the frame attention in the video model. Our KGA-Net boosts the performance on the public BUSV dataset by a large margin. The visualization results of frame attention prove the explainability of our method. The codes and model weights of our method will be made publicly available.

Robust magnetism against pressure in non-superconducting samples prepared from lutetium foil and H2/N2 gas mixture

Recently, the claim of "near-ambient superconductivity" in a N-doped lutetium hydride attracted enormous following-up investigations in the community of condensed matter physics and material sciences. But quite soon, the experimental results from different groups indicate consistently that no evidence of near-ambient superconductivity is found in the samples synthesized by the same method as the reported one, or by the other alternative methods. From our extended high-pressure heat capacity and magnetic susceptibility measurements on the samples prepared with the lutetium foil and H2/N2 gas mixture, we report the finding of a magnetic transition at the temperature about 56 K. Our results show that this magnetic phase is robust against pressure up to 4.3 GPa, which covers the critical pressure of boosting the claimed near room temperature superconductivity.

Graph Based Long-Term And Short-Term Interest Model for Click-Through Rate Prediction

Click-through rate (CTR) prediction aims to predict the probability that the user will click an item, which has been one of the key tasks in online recommender and advertising systems. In such systems, rich user behavior (viz. long- and short-term) has been proved to be of great value in capturing user interests. Both industry and academy have paid much attention to this topic and propose different approaches to modeling with long-term and short-term user behavior data. But there are still some unresolved issues. More specially, (1) rule and truncation based methods to extract information from long-term behavior are easy to cause information loss, and (2) single feedback behavior regardless of scenario to extract information from short-term behavior lead to information confusion and noise. To fill this gap, we propose a Graph based Long-term and Short-term interest Model, termed GLSM. It consists of a multi-interest graph structure for capturing long-term user behavior, a multi-scenario heterogeneous sequence model for modeling short-term information, then an adaptive fusion mechanism to fused information from long-term and short-term behaviors. Comprehensive experiments on real-world datasets, GLSM achieved SOTA score on offline metrics. At the same time, the GLSM algorithm has been deployed in our industrial application, bringing 4.9% CTR and 4.3% GMV lift, which is significant to the business.

Energy-time Entanglement Coexisting with Fiber Optical Communication at Telecom C-band

The coexistence of quantum and classical light in the same fiber link is extremely desired in developing quantum communication. It has been implemented for different quantum information tasks, such as classical light coexisting with polarization-entangled photons at telecom O-band, and with quantum signal based quantum key distribution (QKD). In this work, we demonstrate the coexistence of energy-time entanglement based QKD and fiber optical communication at the telecom C-band. The property of noise from the classical channel is characterized with classical light at different wavelengths. With the largest noise, i.e., the worst case, the properties of energy-time entanglement are measured at different fiber optical communication rates. By measuring the two-photon interference of energy-time entanglement, our results show that a visibility of 82.01$\pm$1.10\% is achieved with a bidirectional 20 Gbps fiber optical communication over 40 km. Furthermore, by performing the BBM92 protocol for QKD, a secret key rate of 245 bits per second could be generated with a quantum bit error rate of 8.88\% with the coexisted energy-time entanglement.~Our demonstration paves the way for developing the infrastructure for quantum networks compatible with fiber optical communication.

Spot keywords from very noisy and mixed speech

Most existing keyword spotting research focuses on conditions with slight or moderate noise. In this paper, we try to tackle a more challenging task: detecting keywords buried under strong interfering speech (10 times higher than the keyword in amplitude), and even worse, mixed with other keywords. We propose a novel Mix Training (MT) strategy that encourages the model to discover low-energy keywords from noisy and mixed speech. Experiments were conducted with a vanilla CNN and two EfficientNet (B0/B2) architectures. The results evaluated with the Google Speech Command dataset demonstrated that the proposed mix training approach is highly effective and outperforms standard data augmentation and mixup training.

Zero- and Few-Shot Event Detection via Prompt-Based Meta Learning

With emerging online topics as a source for numerous new events, detecting unseen / rare event types presents an elusive challenge for existing event detection methods, where only limited data access is provided for training. To address the data scarcity problem in event detection, we propose MetaEvent, a meta learning-based framework for zero- and few-shot event detection. Specifically, we sample training tasks from existing event types and perform meta training to search for optimal parameters that quickly adapt to unseen tasks. In our framework, we propose to use the cloze-based prompt and a trigger-aware soft verbalizer to efficiently project output to unseen event types. Moreover, we design a contrastive meta objective based on maximum mean discrepancy (MMD) to learn class-separating features. As such, the proposed MetaEvent can perform zero-shot event detection by mapping features to event types without any prior knowledge. In our experiments, we demonstrate the effectiveness of MetaEvent in both zero-shot and few-shot scenarios, where the proposed method achieves state-of-the-art performance in extensive experiments on benchmark datasets FewEvent and MAVEN.

A Multi-Scale Attentive Transformer for Multi-Instrument Symbolic Music Generation

Recently, multi-instrument music generation has become a hot topic. Different from single-instrument generation, multi-instrument generation needs to consider inter-track harmony besides intra-track coherence. This is usually achieved by composing note segments from different instruments into a signal sequence. This composition could be on different scales, such as note, bar, or track. Most existing work focuses on a particular scale, leading to a shortage in modeling music with diverse temporal and track dependencies. This paper proposes a multi-scale attentive Transformer model to improve the quality of multi-instrument generation. We first employ multiple Transformer decoders to learn multi-instrument representations of different scales and then design an attentive mechanism to fuse the multi-scale information. Experiments conducted on SOD and LMD datasets show that our model improves both quantitative and qualitative performance compared to models based on single-scale information. The source code and some generated samples can be found at https://github.com/HaRry-qaq/MSAT.
