Uniqueness and shape of simplex ground states for aggregation--diffusion energies with mild repulsion

We study global minimizers in $\mathbb{R}^d$ of the free energy $\mathcal{E}_κ=\mathcal{W}+κ\mathcal{U}$, where $\mathcal{W}$ is a power-law interaction energy with mild repulsion and $\mathcal{U}$ is the porous-medium internal energy with exponent $m>1$. In a range of exponents that we call the strict simplex regime, results of Lim--McCann and Davies--Lim--McCann show that $\mathcal{W}$ is minimized, uniquely up to rigid motions, by equal point masses at the vertices of a regular unit $d$-simplex. Diffusion excludes such atomic minimizers for every $κ>0$. We prove that uniqueness nevertheless persists: for every fixed $m>1$ and all sufficiently small $κ>0$, the free energy has a unique global minimizer up to rigid motions. After a suitable rigid motion, this minimizer is invariant under every symmetry of the simplex, and its support splits into $d+1$ clusters near the vertices, each of mass exactly $1/(d+1)$; in particular, it is not radially symmetric when $d\geq2$. The clusters have width of order $κ^{1/(d(m-1)+2)}$, which is also the exact order of the quadratic Wasserstein distance from the minimizer to the atomic simplex measure. Rescaled at this scale, the clusters converge in $L^1$ and $L^\infty$ to explicit Barenblatt-type profiles supported on ellipsoids determined by the Hessian of the simplex potential. For $d\geq2$ these ellipsoids are spheroids flattened along the directions of the vertices; when the repulsive exponent exceeds two, their aspect ratio equals $(d+1)^{-1/2}$, independently of all other parameters. At the endpoint $(4,2)$ of this regime in dimensions $d\geq2$, where the zero-diffusion minimizer is not unique, we show instead that vanishing diffusion selects the uniform spherical shell.

Moreau-Yosida Penalization of McKean-Vlasov Dynamics: Full-Flux Limits and Boundary Reaction Measures

We study McKean-Vlasov Fokker-Planck dynamics on a compact convex set $K\subset\mathbb{R}^d$ through the whole-space Moreau-Yosida penalization $U_λ=\operatorname{dist}(\cdot,K)^2/(2λ)$, keeping the external and interaction potentials fixed. At finite times, the penalized densities converge to the unique variational solution of the reflected no-flux equation, strongly in space-time $L^2$ on $K$ and in whole-space $L^1$, and narrowly, uniformly in time. We prove that the singular penalty-force measures converge weakly-$*$ to the purely normal boundary reaction $\operatorname{Tr}(ρ)n\,\mathcal{H}^{d-1}|_{\partial K}\,\mathrm{d}t$. This measure cancels exactly the surface singularity in the distributional gradient of the zero-extended density, explaining the emergent no-flux condition at the flux level. At equilibrium, we establish sharp $\sqrtλ$ rates in $L^1$ and Wasserstein distances for kernel-free Gibbs states, and in $L^1$ and quadratic Wasserstein distance for interacting fixed points under Dobrushin smallness or positive semidefiniteness, including maximum mean discrepancy interactions. The proof combines a tilted Gaussian supersolution, nonautonomous weighted energy estimates, and normal factorization with a Green-formula identification. We also identify the limit with a nonlinear reflecting diffusion, obtain path-space convergence and $λ$-uniform propagation of chaos through monotone synchronous coupling, and derive all-time Gibbs domination in the reversible case. Numerical experiments illustrate the boundary reaction and stationary scalings on a constrained maximum mean discrepancy flow.

Local exponential stability of mean-field Langevin descent-ascent and associated particle system

We study the mean-field Langevin descent-ascent (MFL-DA), a coupled optimization dynamics on the space of probability measures for entropically regularized two-player zero-sum games, together with its associated interacting particle system. For general nonconvex-nonconcave payoffs, Wang and Chizat (COLT 2024) asked whether the original single-timescale MFL-DA converges to the mixed Nash equilibrium and, if so, at what rate. We prove a local affirmative answer in Wasserstein space: if the initial datum is sufficiently close to the mixed Nash equilibrium, then the mean-field dynamics converges to it exponentially fast at a quantitative rate. We further show that the finite-$N$ particle system inherits this stability up to times exponential in $N$, with an $N$-independent exponential rate modulo a finite-particle error floor. Combined with the recent counterexample of Mourrat and Pillaud-Vivien for MFL-DA, which shows that global convergence cannot hold in general, our theorem completes the positive local counterpart of the Wang-Chizat question: the mixed Nash equilibrium has a robust basin of attraction, stable under both the mean-field flow and its finite-particle approximation.

A Neural JKO Scheme for Hellinger-Kantorovich Gradient Flows via Monge-Growth Pairs

We develop a mesh-free neural JKO scheme for advection-reaction-diffusion equations with a gradient-flow structure in the Hellinger-Kantorovich (HK) geometry of unbalanced optimal transport. Each update is parametrized by a spatial map and a mass-changing factor, allowing spatial redistribution and local mass creation or loss to be treated jointly within a single variational step. Their cone action bounds the squared HK distance from above, yielding a sufficient condition for discrete energy dissipation through comparison with the identity pair. Minimizing the pair objective over all admissible pairs recovers the exact JKO minimum when the source and a minimizer have positive densities. We establish existence and mass bounds for JKO minimizers and, under additional assumptions, obtain positivity and regularity together with a discrete Euler-Lagrange equation and a metric-dissipation identity. The self-consistent chemical potential is then nonincreasing along an optimal map. There exist parametric pairs whose endpoint densities and objective values converge to those of an exact JKO minimizer, provided a regular-pair approximation hypothesis holds. Finally, we show that a primal-dual gap controls objective suboptimality and, for Boltzmann entropy, the $L^1$ density error, assuming exact-step regularity, positive-semidefinite interactions, and global dual feasibility. Numerical experiments examine pointwise agreement with the PDE, energy dissipation, and the roles of transport, reaction, and fully implicit interactions.

A gradient flow for the porous medium equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions

We consider the gradient flow structure of the porous medium equations with non-negative constant Dirichlet boundary conditions. We construct weak solutions to the equations via the minimizing movement scheme by considering an entropy functional with respect to $Wb_2$ distance, which is a modified Wasserstein distance introduced by Figalli and Gigli [J. Math. Pures Appl. 94, (2010), pp. 107-130]. Furthermore, the constructed solutions are characterized as curves of maximal slope in a suitable sense.

Bounded weak solutions for Keller-Segel equations with generalized diffusion and logistic source via an unbalanced Optimal Transport splitting scheme

We consider a parabolic-elliptic type of Keller-Segel equations with generalized diffusion and logistic source under homogeneous Neumann-Neumann boundary conditions. We construct bounded weak solutions globally in time in an unbalanced optimal transport framework, provided that the magnitude of the chemotactic sensitivity can be restricted depending on parameters. In the case of subquadratic degradation of the logistic source, we quantify the chemotactic sensitivity, in particular, in terms of the power of degradation and the pointwise bound of the initial density.

Wasserstein-Łojasiewicz inequalities and asymptotics of McKean-Vlasov equation

We prove convergence to equilibrium for solutions to the McKean-Vlasov (granular media) equation on the flat torus in a genuinely nonconvex setting. Our approach is based on a Wasserstein-Łojasiewicz gradient inequality for the associated free energy, established under mild analyticity assumptions on the confinement and interaction potentials. This yields convergence of the corresponding Wasserstein gradient flow without convexity assumption and without postulating log-Sobolev related functional inequalities. We expect this strategy to extend to more general nonconvex Wasserstein gradient flows. In the present work we develop it in the McKean-Vlasov setting, with the Keller-Segel chemotaxis model on the torus as a prominent application.

Uniqueness and characterization of local minimizers for the interaction energy with mildly repulsive potentials

In this paper, we are concerned with local minimizers of an interaction energy governed by repulsive-attractive potentials of power-law type in one dimension. We prove that sum of two Dirac masses is the unique local minimizer under the $λ-$Wasserstein metric topology with $1\le λ<\infty$, provided masses and distance of Dirac deltas are equally half and one, respectively. In addition, in case of $\infty$-Wasserstein metric, we characterize stability of steady-state solutions depending on powers of interaction potentials.
