Quantitative weighted bounds for the $q$-variation of singular integrals with rough kernels

In this paper, we study the quantitative weighted bounds for the $q$-variational singular integral operators with rough kernels. The main result is for the sharp truncated singular integrals itself $$ \|V_q\{T_{Ω,\varepsilon}\}_{\varepsilon>0}\|_{L^p(w)\rightarrow L^p(w)}\leq c_{p,q,n} \|Ω\|_{ L^\infty}(w)_{A_p}^{1+1/q}\{w\}_{A_p},$$ where the quantity $(w)_{A_p}$, $\{w\}_{A_p}$ will be recalled in the introduction; we do not know whether this is sharp, but it is the best known quantitative result for this class of operators, since when $q=\infty$, it coincides with the best known quantitative bounds by Di Pilino--Hytönen--Li or Lerner. In the course of establishing the above estimate, we obtain several quantitative weighted bounds which are of independent interest. We hereby highlight two of them. The first one is $$ \|V_q\{ϕ_k\ast T_Ω\}_{k\in\mathbb Z}\|_{L^p(w)\rightarrow L^p(w)}\leq c_{p,q,n} \|Ω\|_{ L^\infty}(w)_{A_p}^{1+1/q}\{w\}_{A_p},$$ where $ϕ_k(x)=\frac1{2^{kn}}ϕ(\frac x{2^k})$ with $ϕ\in C^\infty_c(\mathbb R^n)$ being any non-negative radial function, and the sharpness for $q=\infty$ is due to Lerner; the second one is $$ \|\mathcal{S}_q\{T_{Ω,\varepsilon}\}_{\varepsilon>0}\|_{L^p(w)\rightarrow L^p(w)}\leq c_{p,q,n} \|Ω\|_{ L^\infty}(w)_{A_p}^{1/q}\{w\}_{A_p},$$ and the sharpness for $q=\infty$ follows from the Hardy--Littlewood maximal function.

Noncommutative weak $(1,1)$ type estimate for a square function from ergodic theory

In this paper, we investigate the boundedness of a square function from ergodic theory on noncommutative $L_{p}$-spaces. The main result is a weak $(1,1)$ type estimate of this square function. We also show the $(L_{\infty},\mathrm{BMO})$ estimate, and thus strong $(L_{p},L_{p})$ estimate by interpolation. The main novel difficulty lies in the fact that the kernel of this square function does not enjoy any regularity, which is crucial in showing such endpoint estimates for standard noncommutative Calderón-Zygmund singular integral operators.

Variational Inequalities for Bilinear Averaging Operators over Convex Bodies

We study $q$-variation inequality for bilinear averaging operators over convex bodies $(G_t)_{t>0}$ defined by \begin{align*} \mathbf{A}_t^G(f_1,f_2)(x) & =\frac{1}{|G_t|}\int_{G_t} f_1(x+y_1)f_2(x+y_2)\, dy_1\, dy_2, \quad x\in \Bbb R^d. \end{align*} where $G_t$ are the dilates of a convex body $G$ in $\Bbb R^{2d}$. We prove that $$\|V_q(\mathbf{A}_t^G(f_1,f_2): t>0) \|_{L^p} \lesssim \|f_1\|_{L^{p_1}} \|f_2\|_{L^{p_2}},$$ for $2<q<\infty$, $1<p_1,p_2\le \infty$, $1/2<p<\infty$ with $1/p=1/p_1+1/p_2$. The target space $L^p$ should be replaced by $L^{p,\infty}$ for $p_1=1$ and/or $p_2=1$, and by dyadic BMO when $p_1=p_2=\infty$. As applications, we obtain variational inequalities for bilinear discrete averaging operators, bilinear averaging operators of Demeter-Tao-Thiele, and ergodic bilinear averaging operators. As a byproduct, we also obtain the same mapping properties for a new class of bilinear square functions involving conditional expectation, which are of independent interest.

Vector-valued $q$-variational inequalities for averaging operators and Hilbert transform

Recently, in \cite{GXHTM}, the authors established $L^p$-boundedness of vector-valued $q$-variational inequalities for averaging operators which take values in the Banach space satisfying martingale cotype $q$ property. In this paper, we prove that martingale cotype $q$ property is also necessary for the vector-valued $q$-variational inequalities, which is a question left open. Moreover, we characterize UMD property and martingale cotype $q$ property in terms of vector valued $q$-variational inequalities for Hilbert transform.

An operator-valued $T1$ theory for symmetric CZOs

We provide a natural BMO-criterion for the $L_2$-boundedness of Calderón-Zygmund operators with operator-valued kernels satisfying a symmetric property. Our arguments involve both classical and quantum probability theory. In the appendix, we give a proof of the $L_2$-boundedness of the commutators $[R_j,b]$ whenever $b$ belongs to the Bourgain's vector-valued BMO space, where $R_j$ is the $j$-th Riesz transform. A common ingredient is the operator-valued Haar multiplier studied by Blasco and Pott.

Weighted jump and variational inequalities for rough operators

In this paper, we systematically study weighted jump and variational inequalities for rough operators. More precisely, we show some weighted jump and variational inequalities for the families $\mathcal T:=\{T_\varepsilon\}_{\varepsilon>0}$ of truncated singular integrals and $\mathcal M_Ω:=\{M_{Ω,t}\}_{t>0}$ of averaging operators with rough kernels, which are defined respectively by $$ T_\varepsilon f(x)=\int_{|y|>\varepsilon}\frac{Ω(y')}{|y|^n}f(x-y)dy$$ and $$M_{Ω,t} f(x)=\frac1{t^n}\int_{|y| 1$.

Variational inequalities for the commutators of rough operators with BMO functions

In this paper, starting with a relatively simple observation that the variational estimates of the commutators of the standard Calderón-Zygmund operators with the BMO functions can be deduced from the weighted variational estimates of the standard Calderón-Zygmund operators themselves, we establish similar variational estimates for the commutators of the BMO functions with rough singular integrals which do not admit any weighted variational estimates. The proof involves many Littlewood-Paley type inequalities with commutators as well as Bony decomposition and related para-product estimates.

Some jump and variational inequalities for the Calderón commutators and related operators

In this paper, we establish jump and variational inequalities for the Calderón commutators, which are typical examples of non-convolution Calderón-Zygmund operators. For this purpose, we also show jump and variational inequalities for para-products and commutators from pseudo-differential calculus, which are of independent interest. New ingredients in the proofs involve identifying Carleson measures constructed from sequences of stopping times, in addition to many Littlewood-Paley type estimates with gradient.

Noncommutative ergodic averages of balls and spheres over Euclidean spaces

In this paper, we establish a noncommutative analogue of Calderón's transference principle, which allows us to deduce noncommutative ergodic maximal inequalities from the special case---operator-valued maximal inequalities. As applications, we deduce dimension-free estimates of noncommutative Wiener's maximal ergodic inequality and noncommutative Stein-Calderón's maximal ergodic inequality over Euclidean spaces. We also show the corresponding individual ergodic theorems. To show Wiener's pointwise ergodic theorem, we construct a dense subset on which pointwise convergence holds following a somewhat standard way. To show Jones' pointwise ergodic theorem, we use again transference principle together with Littlewood-Paley method, which is different from Jones' original variational method that is still unavailable in the noncommutative setting.

Noncommutative maximal ergodic theorems for spherical means on the Heisenberg group

We prove maximal ergodic theorems for spherical averages on the Heisenberg groups acting on $L_p$ spaces over measure spaces not necessarily commutative, that is, on noncommutative $L_p$ spaces. The scale of $p$ is optimal in the reduced Heisenberg group case. We also obtain the corresponding individual ergodic theorems and differential theorems in the noncommutative setting. The results can be regarded as noncommutative analogues of Nevo-Thangavelu's ergodic theorems. The approach of proof involves recent developments in noncommutative $L_p$ spaces and in noncommutative harmonic analysis, in addition to the spectral theory used in the commutative setting.

Asymmetric Doob inequalities in continuous time

The present paper is devoted to the second part of our project on asymmetric maximal inequalities, where we consider martingales in continuous time. Let $(\mathcal M,τ)$ be a noncommutative probability space equipped with a continuous filtration of von Neumann subalgebras $(\mathcal M_t)_{0\leq t\leq1}$ whose union is weak-$*$ dense in $\mathcal{M}$. Let $\mathcal E_t$ denote the corresponding family of conditional expectations. As for discrete filtrations, we shall prove that for $1 < p < 2$ and $x \in L_p(\mathcal M,τ)$ one can find $a, b \in L_p(\mathcal M,τ)$ and contractions $u_t, v_t \in \mathcal M$ such that $$\mathcal E_t(x) = a u_t + v_t b \quad \mbox{and} \quad \max \big\{ \|a\|_p, \|b\|_p \big\} \le c_p \|x\|_p.$$ Moreover, $a u_t$ and $v_t b$ converge in the row/column Hardy spaces $\mathcal H_p^r(\mathcal M)$ and $\mathcal H_p^c(\mathcal M)$ respectively. We also confirm in the continuous setting the validity of related asymmetric maximal inequalities which we recently found for discrete filtrations, including $p=1$. As for other results in noncommutative martingale theory, the passage from discrete to continuous index is quite technical and requires genuinely new methods. Our approach towards asymmetric maximal inequalities is based on certain construction of conditional expectations for a sequence of projective systems of $L_p$-modules. The convergence in $\mathcal H_p^r(\mathcal M)$ and $\mathcal H_p^c(\mathcal M)$ also imposes new algebraic atomic decompositions.

Hypercontractivity of heat semigroups on free quantum groups

In this paper we study two semigroups of completely positive unital self-adjoint maps on the von Neumann algebras of the free orthogonal quantum group $O_N^+$ and the free permutation quantum group $S_N^+$. We show that these semigroups satisfy ultracontractivity and hypercontractivity estimates. We also give results regarding spectral gap and logarithmic Sobolev inequalities.

Noncommutative multi-parameter Wiener-Wintner type ergodic theorem

In this paper, we establish a multi-parameter version of Bellow and Losert's Wiener-Wintner type ergodic theorem for dynamical systems not necessarily being commutative. More precisely, we introduce a weight class $\mathcal{D}$, which is shown to strictly include the multi-parameter bounded Besicovitch weight class, thus including the set $$Λ_d=\left\{\{λ^{k_1}_1\dotsmλ^{k_d}_d\}_{(k_1,\dots,k_d)\in \mathbb{N}^d}:\quad (λ_1,\dots,λ_d) \in \mathbb{T}^d\right\};$$ then prove a multi-parameter Bellow and Losert's Wiener-Wintner type ergodic theorem for the class $\mathcal{D}$ and for noncommutative trace preserving dynamical system $(\mathcal{M},τ,\mathbf{T})$. Restricted to consider the set $Λ_d$, we also prove a noncommutative multi-parameter analogue of Bourgain's uniform Wiener-Wintner ergodic theorem. The noncommutativity and the multi-parameter induce some difficulties in the proof. For instance, our arguments in proving the uniform convergence for a dense subset turn out to be quite different since the "pointwise" argument does not work in the noncommutative setting; to obtain the uniform convergence in the largest spaces, we show maximal inequality between the Orlicz spaces, which can not be deduced easily using classical extrapolation argument. Junge and Xu's noncommutative maximal inequalities with optimal order, together with the atomic decomposition of Orlicz spaces, play an essential role in overcoming the second difficulty.

Jump and variational inequalities for rough operators

In this paper, we systematically study jump and variational inequalities for rough operators, whose research have been initiated by Jones {\it et al}. More precisely, we show some jump and variational inequalities for the families $\mathcal T:=\{T_\varepsilon\}_{\varepsilon>0}$ of truncated singular integrals and $\mathcal M:=\{M_t\}_{t>0}$ of averaging operators with rough kernels, which are defined respectively by $$ T_\varepsilon f(x)=\int_{|y|>\varepsilon}\frac{Ω(y')}{|y|^n}f(x-y)dy $$ and $$M_t f(x)=\frac1{t^n}\int_{|y|<t}Ω(y')f(x-y)dy, $$ where the kernel $Ω$ belongs to $L\log^+\!\!L(\mathbf S^{n-1})$ or $H^1(\mathbf S^{n-1})$ or $\mathcal{G}_α(\mathbf S^{n-1})$ (the condition introduced by Grafakos and Stefanov). Some of our results are sharp in the sense that the underlying assumptions are the best known conditions for the boundedness of corresponding maximal operators.

Vector-valued Hilbert transforms along curves

In this paper, we show that Hilbert transforms along some curves are bounded on $L^p({\mathbb R}^n;X)$ for some $1<p<\infty$ and some UMD spaces $X$. In particular, we prove that the Hilbert transform along some curves are completely $L^p$-bounded in the terminology from operator space theory. Moreover, we obtain the $L^p(\mathbb{R}^n;X)$-boundedness of anisotropic singular integrals by using the "method of rotations" of Calderón-Zygmund. All these results extend the existing related ones.

Algebraic Davis decomposition and asymmetric Doob inequalities

In this paper we investigate asymmetric forms of Doob maximal inequality. The asymmetry is imposed by noncommutativity. Let $(\M,τ)$ be a noncommutative probability space equipped with a weak-$*$ dense filtration of von Neumann subalgebras $(\M_n)_{n \ge 1}$. Let $\E_n$ denote the corresponding family of conditional expectations. As an illustration for an asymmetric result, we prove that for $1 < p < 2$ and $x \in L_p(\M,τ)$ one can find $a, b \in L_p(\M,τ)$ and contractions $u_n, v_n \in \M$ such that $$\E_n(x) = a u_n + v_n b \quad \mbox{and} \quad \max \big\{ \|a\|_p, \|b\|_p \big\} \le c_p \|x\|_p.$$ Moreover, it turns out that $a u_n$ and $v_n b$ converge in the row/column Hardy spaces $\H_p^r(\M)$ and $\H_p^c(\M)$ respectively. In particular, this solves a problem posed by Defant and Junge in 2004. In the case $p=1$, our results establish a noncommutative form of Davis celebrated theorem on the relation between martingale maximal and square functions in $L_1$, whose noncommutative form has remained open for quite some time. Given $1 \le p \le 2$, we also provide new weak type maximal estimates, which imply in turn left/right almost uniform convergence of $\E_n(x)$ in row/column Hardy spaces. This improves the bilateral convergence known so far. Our approach is based on new forms of Davis martingale decomposition which are of independent interest, and an algebraic atomic description for the involved Hardy spaces. The latter results are new even for commutative von Neumann algebras.

Vector valued $q$-variation for differential operators and semigroups I

In this paper, we establish $\mathcal B$-valued variational inequalities for differential operators, ergodic averages and symmetric diffusion semigroups under the condition that Banach space $\mathcal B$ has martingale cotype property. These results generalize, on the one hand Pisier and Xu's result on the variational inequalities for $\mathcal B$-valued martingales, on the other hand many classical variational inequalities in harmonic analysis and ergodic theory. Moreover, we show that Rademacher cotype $q$ is necessary for the $\mathcal B$-valued $q$-variational inequalities. As applications of the variational inequalities, we deduce the jump estimates and obtain quantitative information on the rate of convergence. It turns out the rate of convergence depends on the geometric property of the Banach space under consideration, which considerably improve Cowling and Leinert's result where it is shown that the convergence always holds for all Banach spaces.

Vector valued $q$-variation for differential operators and semigroups II

In this paper, we establish UMD lattice-valued variational inequalities for differential operators, ergodic averages and analytic semigroups. These results generalize, on the one hand some scalar-valued variational inequalities in ergodic theory, on the other hand Xu's very recent result on UMD lattice-valued maximal inequality. As a consequence, we deduce the jump estimates and obtain quantitative information on the rate of the pointwise convergence.
