Anchor3R: Streaming 3D Reconstruction with Transient Anchors for Long-Horizon Visual Mapping

Long-horizon online visual mapping requires continuous camera-motion and scene-geometry estimation under bounded computation. Recent feed-forward 3D reconstruction models provide strong geometric priors, but streaming variants often predict poses in a fixed or historically maintained coordinate system, leading to train--test mismatch, early-anchor attention bias, and accumulated drift. We propose \emph{Anchor3R}, a current-centric streaming 3D reconstruction framework that predicts window-relative poses and local geometry in the current-frame coordinate system. Overlapping predictions form a dense relative-pose graph, supporting online pose updates and loop-aware motion averaging for global reconstruction. Experiments on indoor, outdoor, driving, and RGB-D benchmarks demonstrate improved long-horizon pose accuracy and dense reconstruction quality over existing streaming baselines. Despite being trained only on 48-frame sequences, Anchor3R directly generalizes to streams exceeding 10,000 frames while maintaining bounded GPU memory during online inference. HiSfM: Disambiguating Structure-from-Motion via Scaffold-Anchored Hierarchical Reconstruction

Structure-from-Motion (SfM) is a fundamental tool for sparse 3D reconstruction with broad impact in robotics and vision, supporting mapping, localization, and large-scale scene modeling. However, conventional pipelines often fail under hard visual ambiguity caused by repeated or symmetric structures, and incur heavy computational cost due to redundant cameras and constraints. We present HiSfM, a hierarchical coarse-to-fine SfM framework that improves robustness and efficiency through scaffold construction. HiSfM first forms strong local communities using geometrical induced heuristics, then connects communities with a compact yet strong skeleton by packing edge-disjoint spanning trees (EDST) while verifying skeletal edges with a two-view disambiguator. We reconstruct a stable scaffold on this verified skeleton, serving as an anchor to capture the essence of the scene, and subsequently absorb remaining images via efficient registration and triangulation for further refinements. Experiments on ambiguity-focused benchmarks and general datasets show that HiSfM prevents ambiguity-induced failures while substantially reducing runtime compared to previous methods, and improves completeness over aggressive sparsification methods. Code is available at https://github.com/3dv-casia/HiSfM.

HETA++: Global Structure-from-Motion with Hybrid Explicit Translation Averaging

Global Structure-from-Motion (SfM) offers advantages over incremental methods in terms of efficiency and error distribution. However, the task of translation averaging remains challenging. Many existing methods rely solely on relative translations or feature tracks, which either degrade under collinear camera motion or are susceptible to outliers. In this paper, we propose a novel hybrid explicit translation averaging framework that incorporates both relative translations and feature tracks. Specifically, we first refine the relative translations using global camera rotations and remove globally inconsistent relative translations. Next, we employ convex distance-based objective functions to estimate the initial camera positions and 3D points, followed by refinement using a non-bilinear angle-based objective function. Furthermore, since camera rotations are fixed during translation averaging, inaccurate camera rotations can severely limit the accuracy of camera positions. To address this issue, we then robustly refine both camera rotations and camera positions with selected feature tracks through bounded angle-based refinement and subsequent reprojection-based bundle adjustment. In this step, feature tracks are selected to maintain a balanced spatial distribution and improve optimization efficiency. Finally, we perform a complete bundle adjustment using all reliable feature tracks to refine the camera parameters and 3D points. Extensive experiments on various sequential and unordered real-world datasets demonstrate the superior accuracy, robustness, and scalability of our approach, outperforming state-of-the-art methods in both accuracy and computational efficiency.

MGSfM: Multi-Camera Geometry Driven Global Structure-from-Motion

Multi-camera systems are increasingly vital in the environmental perception of autonomous vehicles and robotics. Their physical configuration offers inherent fixed relative pose constraints that benefit Structure-from-Motion (SfM). However, traditional global SfM systems struggle with robustness due to their optimization framework. We propose a novel global motion averaging framework for multi-camera systems, featuring two core components: a decoupled rotation averaging module and a hybrid translation averaging module. Our rotation averaging employs a hierarchical strategy by first estimating relative rotations within rigid camera units and then computing global rigid unit rotations. To enhance the robustness of translation averaging, we incorporate both camera-to-camera and camera-to-point constraints to initialize camera positions and 3D points with a convex distance-based objective function and refine them with an unbiased non-bilinear angle-based objective function. Experiments on large-scale datasets show that our system matches or exceeds incremental SfM accuracy while significantly improving efficiency. Our framework outperforms existing global SfM methods, establishing itself as a robust solution for real-world multi-camera SfM applications. Incremental Rotation Averaging Revisited

In order to further advance the accuracy and robustness of the incremental parameter estimation-based rotation averaging methods, in this paper, a new member of the Incremental Rotation Averaging (IRA) family is introduced, which is termed as IRAv4. As its most significant feature, a task-specific connected dominating set is extracted in IRAv4 to serve as a more reliable and accurate reference for rotation local-to-global alignment. This alignment reference is incrementally constructed, together with the absolute rotations of the vertices belong to it simultaneously estimated. Comprehensive evaluations are performed on the 1DSfM dataset, by which the effectiveness of both the reference construction method and the entire rotation averaging pipeline proposed in this paper is demonstrated.

Dense Semantic 3D Map Based Long-Term Visual Localization with Hybrid Features

Visual localization plays an important role in many applications. However, due to the large appearance variations such as season and illumination changes, as well as weather and day-night variations, it's still a big challenge for robust long-term visual localization algorithms. In this paper, we present a novel visual localization method using hybrid handcrafted and learned features with dense semantic 3D map. Hybrid features help us to make full use of their strengths in different imaging conditions, and the dense semantic map provide us reliable and complete geometric and semantic information for constructing sufficient 2D-3D matching pairs with semantic consistency scores. In our pipeline, we retrieve and score each candidate database image through the semantic consistency between the dense model and the query image. Then the semantic consistency score is used as a soft constraint in the weighted RANSAC-based PnP pose solver. Experimental results on long-term visual localization benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of our method compared with state-of-the-arts.

CSfM: Community-based Structure from Motion

Structure-from-Motion approaches could be broadly divided into two classes: incremental and global. While incremental manner is robust to outliers, it suffers from error accumulation and heavy computation load. The global manner has the advantage of simultaneously estimating all camera poses, but it is usually sensitive to epipolar geometry outliers. In this paper, we propose an adaptive community-based SfM (CSfM) method which takes both robustness and efficiency into consideration. First, the epipolar geometry graph is partitioned into separate communities. Then, the reconstruction problem is solved for each community in parallel. Finally, the reconstruction results are merged by a novel global similarity averaging method, which solves three convex $L1$ optimization problems. Experimental results show that our method performs better than many of the state-of-the-art global SfM approaches in terms of computational efficiency, while achieves similar or better reconstruction accuracy and robustness than many of the state-of-the-art incremental SfM approaches.

InAR:Inverse Augmented Reality

Augmented reality is the art to seamlessly fuse virtual objects into real ones. In this short note, we address the opposite problem, the inverse augmented reality, that is, given a perfectly augmented reality scene where human is unable to distinguish real objects from virtual ones, how the machine could help do the job. We show by structure from motion (SFM), a simple 3D reconstruction technique from images in computer vision, the real and virtual objects can be easily separated in the reconstructed 3D scene.
