Protocol effects on feature-based hardware-Trojan detection across Trust-Hub families

Trust-Hub reuses host circuits: several files differ mainly in the inserted Trojan. When gates from sibling variants enter both training and test folds, a detector can benefit from host logic it has already seen. We measure that effect instead of proposing another classifier. The corpus contains 49,124 gates from 16 netlists grouped into five host families. We left the parser, 36 gate features, class weighting, model settings, threshold, and family-level aggregation unchanged and altered one choice: the test boundary. The three settings draw test gates from the pooled corpus, withhold a complete netlist, or withhold every variant of one host. The choice matters. Random forest records F1/AP of 0.914/0.978 with pooled gates, 0.636/0.851 with one netlist held out, and 0.460/0.577 with a host family held out. XGBoost falls from 0.946/0.976 to 0.464/0.544 across the same comparison. Logistic regression loses AP, although its fixed-threshold F1 is not monotonic. Each family shows the same pooled-to-family direction. Feature removal, repeated model and simulator seeds, score normalization, parser-related exclusions, and a smaller sample change the size of the gap without reversing it. Aggregation also matters: a gate-weighted average is dominated by the larger ISCAS files, so the headline values give each host family one vote. Bootstrap and jackknife summaries keep the gap positive, but their folds reuse training families. We treat the five family rows as descriptive evidence rather than independent trials. Five host families are too few for a population claim, and the experiment says nothing about transfer to a new cell library or an industrial design. It supports a narrower conclusion: sibling benchmark variants can inflate apparent transfer. Benchmarks with several variants of one host circuit should report family-aware holdouts and all five family results beside pooled scores.

Generative Inverse Design of Cold Metals for Low-Power Electronics

Cold metals are a class of metals with an intrinsic energy gap located close to the Fermi level, which enables cold-carrier injection for steep-slope transistors and is therefore promising for low-power electronic applications. High-throughput screening has revealed 252 three-dimensional (3D) cold metals in the Materials Project database, but database searches are inherently limited to known compounds. Here we present an inverse-design workflow that generates 3D cold metals using MatterGPT, a conditional autoregressive Transformer trained on SLICES, an invertible and symmetry-invariant crystal string representation. We curate a training set of 26,309 metallic structures labeled with energy above hull and a unified band-edge distance descriptor that merges p-type and n-type cold-metal characteristics to address severe label imbalance. Property-conditioned generation targeting thermodynamic stability and 50-500 meV band-edge distances produces 148,506 unique candidates; 92.1% are successfully reconstructed to 3D structures and down-selected by symmetry, uniqueness and novelty filters, followed by high-throughput DFT validation. We identify 257 cold metals verified as novel with respect to the Materials Project database, with gaps around the Fermi level spanning 50-500 meV. First-principles phonon, electronic-structure, and work-function calculations for representative candidates confirm dynamical stability and contact-relevant work functions. Our results demonstrate that SLICES-enabled generative transformers can expand the chemical space of cold metals beyond high-throughput screening, providing a route to low-power electronic materials discovery.

SceneTransporter: Optimal Transport-Guided Compositional Latent Diffusion for Single-Image Structured 3D Scene Generation

We introduce SceneTransporter, an end-to-end framework for structured 3D scene generation from a single image. While existing methods generate part-level 3D objects, they often fail to organize these parts into distinct instances in open-world scenes. Through a debiased clustering probe, we reveal a critical insight: this failure stems from the lack of structural constraints within the model's internal assignment mechanism. Based on this finding, we reframe the task of structured 3D scene generation as a global correlation assignment problem. To solve this, SceneTransporter formulates and solves an entropic Optimal Transport (OT) objective within the denoising loop of the compositional DiT model. This formulation imposes two powerful structural constraints. First, the resulting transport plan gates cross-attention to enforce an exclusive, one-to-one routing of image patches to part-level 3D latents, preventing entanglement. Second, the competitive nature of the transport encourages the grouping of similar patches, a process that is further regularized by an edge-based cost, to form coherent objects and prevent fragmentation. Extensive experiments show that SceneTransporter outperforms existing methods on open-world scene generation, significantly improving instance-level coherence and geometric fidelity. Code and models will be publicly available at https://2019epwl.github.io/SceneTransporter/.

PHWSOA: A Pareto-based Hybrid Whale-Seagull Scheduling for Multi-Objective Tasks in Cloud Computing

Task scheduling is a critical research challenge in cloud computing, a transformative technology widely adopted across industries. Although numerous scheduling solutions exist, they predominantly optimize singular or limited metrics such as execution time or resource utilization often neglecting the need for comprehensive multi-objective optimization. To bridge this gap, this paper proposes the Pareto-based Hybrid Whale-Seagull Optimization Algorithm (PHWSOA). This algorithm synergistically combines the strengths of the Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) and the Seagull Optimization Algorithm (SOA), specifically mitigating WOA's limitations in local exploitation and SOA's constraints in global exploration. Leveraging Pareto dominance principles, PHWSOA simultaneously optimizes three key objectives: makespan, virtual machine (VM) load balancing, and economic cost. Key enhancements include: Halton sequence initialization for superior population diversity, a Pareto-guided mutation mechanism to avert premature convergence, and parallel processing for accelerated convergence. Furthermore, a dynamic VM load redistribution mechanism is integrated to improve load balancing during task execution. Extensive experiments conducted on the CloudSim simulator, utilizing real-world workload traces from NASA-iPSC and HPC2N, demonstrate that PHWSOA delivers substantial performance gains. Specifically, it achieves up to a 72.1% reduction in makespan, a 36.8% improvement in VM load balancing, and 23.5% cost savings. These results substantially outperform baseline methods including WOA, GA, PEWOA, and GCWOA underscoring PHWSOA's strong potential for enabling efficient resource management in practical cloud environments.

Confidence-driven Gradient Modulation for Multimodal Human Activity Recognition: A Dynamic Contrastive Dual-Path Learning Approach

Sensor-based Human Activity Recognition (HAR) is a core technology that enables intelligent systems to perceive and interact with their environment. However, multimodal HAR systems still encounter key challenges, such as difficulties in cross-modal feature alignment and imbalanced modality contributions. To address these issues, we propose a novel framework called the Dynamic Contrastive Dual-Path Network (DCDP-HAR). The framework comprises three key components. First, a dual-path feature extraction architecture is employed, where ResNet and DenseNet branches collaboratively process multimodal sensor data. Second, a multi-stage contrastive learning mechanism is introduced to achieve progressive alignment from local perception to semantic abstraction. Third, we present a confidence-driven gradient modulation strategy that dynamically monitors and adjusts the learning intensity of each modality branch during backpropagation, effectively alleviating modality competition. In addition, a momentum-based gradient accumulation strategy is adopted to enhance training stability. We conduct ablation studies to validate the effectiveness of each component and perform extensive comparative experiments on four public benchmark datasets.

USAD: End-to-End Human Activity Recognition via Diffusion Model with Spatiotemporal Attention

The primary objective of human activity recognition (HAR) is to infer ongoing human actions from sensor data, a task that finds broad applications in health monitoring, safety protection, and sports analysis. Despite proliferating research, HAR still faces key challenges, including the scarcity of labeled samples for rare activities, insufficient extraction of high-level features, and suboptimal model performance on lightweight devices. To address these issues, this paper proposes a comprehensive optimization approach centered on multi-attention interaction mechanisms. First, an unsupervised, statistics-guided diffusion model is employed to perform data augmentation, thereby alleviating the problems of labeled data scarcity and severe class imbalance. Second, a multi-branch spatio-temporal interaction network is designed, which captures multi-scale features of sequential data through parallel residual branches with 3*3, 5*5, and 7*7 convolutional kernels. Simultaneously, temporal attention mechanisms are incorporated to identify critical time points, while spatial attention enhances inter-sensor interactions. A cross-branch feature fusion unit is further introduced to improve the overall feature representation capability. Finally, an adaptive multi-loss function fusion strategy is integrated, allowing for dynamic adjustment of loss weights and overall model optimization. Experimental results on three public datasets, WISDM, PAMAP2, and OPPORTUNITY, demonstrate that the proposed unsupervised data augmentation spatio-temporal attention diffusion network (USAD) achieves accuracies of 98.84%, 93.81%, and 80.92% respectively, significantly outperforming existing approaches. Furthermore, practical deployment on embedded devices verifies the efficiency and feasibility of the proposed method.

CMD-HAR: Cross-Modal Disentanglement for Wearable Human Activity Recognition

Human Activity Recognition (HAR) is a fundamental technology for numerous human - centered intelligent applications. Although deep learning methods have been utilized to accelerate feature extraction, issues such as multimodal data mixing, activity heterogeneity, and complex model deployment remain largely unresolved. The aim of this paper is to address issues such as multimodal data mixing, activity heterogeneity, and complex model deployment in sensor-based human activity recognition. We propose a spatiotemporal attention modal decomposition alignment fusion strategy to tackle the problem of the mixed distribution of sensor data. Key discriminative features of activities are captured through cross-modal spatio-temporal disentangled representation, and gradient modulation is combined to alleviate data heterogeneity. In addition, a wearable deployment simulation system is constructed. We conducted experiments on a large number of public datasets, demonstrating the effectiveness of the model.

Process Optimization and Deployment for Sensor-Based Human Activity Recognition Based on Deep Learning

Sensor-based human activity recognition is a key technology for many human-centered intelligent applications. However, this research is still in its infancy and faces many unresolved challenges. To address these, we propose a comprehensive optimization process approach centered on multi-attention interaction. We first utilize unsupervised statistical feature-guided diffusion models for highly adaptive data enhancement, and introduce a novel network architecture-Multi-branch Spatiotemporal Interaction Network, which uses multi-branch features at different levels to effectively Sequential ), which uses multi-branch features at different levels to effectively Sequential spatio-temporal interaction to enhance the ability to mine advanced latent features. In addition, we adopt a multi-loss function fusion strategy in the training phase to dynamically adjust the fusion weights between batches to optimize the training results. Finally, we also conducted actual deployment on embedded devices to extensively test the practical feasibility of the proposed method in existing work. We conduct extensive testing on three public datasets, including ablation studies, comparisons of related work, and embedded deployments.

SLICES-PLUS: A Crystal Representation Leveraging Spatial Symmetry

In recent years, the realm of crystalline materials has witnessed a surge in the development of generative models, predominantly aimed at the inverse design of crystals with tailored physical properties. However, spatial symmetry, which serves as a significant inductive bias, is often not optimally harnessed in the design process. This oversight tends to result in crystals with lower symmetry, potentially limiting the practical applications of certain functional materials. To bridge this gap, we introduce SLICES-PLUS, an enhanced variant of SLICES that emphasizes spatial symmetry. Our experiments in classification and generation have shown that SLICES-PLUS exhibits greater sensitivity and robustness in learning crystal symmetries compared to the original SLICES. Furthermore, by integrating SLICES-PLUS with a customized MatterGPT model, we have demonstrated its exceptional capability to target specific physical properties and crystal systems with precision. Finally, we explore autoregressive generation towards multiple elastic properties in few-shot learning. Our research represents a significant step forward in the realm of computational materials discovery.

Mean Age of Information in Partial Offloading Mobile Edge Computing Networks

The age of information (AoI) performance analysis is essential for evaluating the information freshness in the large-scale mobile edge computing (MEC) networks. This work proposes the earliest analysis of the mean AoI (MAoI) performance of large-scale partial offloading MEC networks. Firstly, we derive and validate the closed-form expressions of MAoI by using queueing theory and stochastic geometry. Based on these expressions, we analyse the effects of computing offloading ratio (COR) and task generation rate (TGR) on the MAoI performance and compare the MAoI performance under the local computing, remote computing, and partial offloading schemes. The results show that by jointly optimising the COR and TGR, the partial offloading scheme outperforms the local and remote computing schemes in terms of the MAoI, which can be improved by up to 51% and 61%, respectively. This encourages the MEC networks to adopt the partial offloading scheme to improve the MAoI performance.

MatterGPT: A Generative Transformer for Multi-Property Inverse Design of Solid-State Materials

Inverse design of solid-state materials with desired properties represents a formidable challenge in materials science. Although recent generative models have demonstrated potential, their adoption has been hindered by limitations such as inefficiency, architectural constraints and restricted open-source availability. The representation of crystal structures using the SLICES (Simplified Line-Input Crystal-Encoding System) notation as a string of characters enables the use of state-of-the-art natural language processing models, such as Transformers, for crystal design. Drawing inspiration from the success of GPT models in generating coherent text, we trained a generative Transformer on the next-token prediction task to generate solid-state materials with targeted properties. We demonstrate MatterGPT's capability to generate de novo crystal structures with targeted single properties, including both lattice-insensitive (formation energy) and lattice-sensitive (band gap) properties. Furthermore, we extend MatterGPT to simultaneously target multiple properties, addressing the complex challenge of multi-objective inverse design of crystals. Our approach showcases high validity, uniqueness, and novelty in generated structures, as well as the ability to generate materials with properties beyond the training data distribution. This work represents a significant step forward in computational materials discovery, offering a powerful and open tool for designing materials with tailored properties for various applications in energy, electronics, and beyond.

Isotropic3D: Image-to-3D Generation Based on a Single CLIP Embedding

Encouraged by the growing availability of pre-trained 2D diffusion models, image-to-3D generation by leveraging Score Distillation Sampling (SDS) is making remarkable progress. Most existing methods combine novel-view lifting from 2D diffusion models which usually take the reference image as a condition while applying hard L2 image supervision at the reference view. Yet heavily adhering to the image is prone to corrupting the inductive knowledge of the 2D diffusion model leading to flat or distorted 3D generation frequently. In this work, we reexamine image-to-3D in a novel perspective and present Isotropic3D, an image-to-3D generation pipeline that takes only an image CLIP embedding as input. Isotropic3D allows the optimization to be isotropic w.r.t. the azimuth angle by solely resting on the SDS loss. The core of our framework lies in a two-stage diffusion model fine-tuning. Firstly, we fine-tune a text-to-3D diffusion model by substituting its text encoder with an image encoder, by which the model preliminarily acquires image-to-image capabilities. Secondly, we perform fine-tuning using our Explicit Multi-view Attention (EMA) which combines noisy multi-view images with the noise-free reference image as an explicit condition. CLIP embedding is sent to the diffusion model throughout the whole process while reference images are discarded once after fine-tuning. As a result, with a single image CLIP embedding, Isotropic3D is capable of generating multi-view mutually consistent images and also a 3D model with more symmetrical and neat content, well-proportioned geometry, rich colored texture, and less distortion compared with existing image-to-3D methods while still preserving the similarity to the reference image to a large extent. The project page is available at https://isotropic3d.github.io/. The code and models are available at https://github.com/pkunliu/Isotropic3D.

The regularization continuation method for optimization problems with nonlinear equality constraints

This paper considers the regularization continuation method and the trust-region updating strategy for the nonlinearly equality-constrained optimization problem. Namely, it uses the inverse of the regularization quasi-Newton matrix as the pre-conditioner to improve its computational efficiency in the well-posed phase, and it adopts the inverse of the regularization two-sided projection of the Hessian as the pre-conditioner to improve its robustness in the ill-conditioned phase. Since it only solves a linear system of equations at every iteration and the sequential quadratic programming (SQP) needs to solve a quadratic programming subproblem at every iteration, it is faster than SQP. Numerical results also show that it is more robust and faster than SQP (the built-in subroutine fmincon.m of the MATLAB2020a environment and the subroutine SNOPT executed in GAMS v28.2 (2019) environment). The computational time of the new method is about one third of that of fmincon.m for the large-scale problem. Finally, the global convergence analysis of the new method is also given.

Residual regularization path-following methods for linear complementarity problems

In this article, we consider the residual regularization path-following method with the trust-region updating strategy for the linear complementarity problem. This time-stepping selection based on the trust-region updating strategy overcomes the shortcoming of the line search method, which consumes the unnecessary trial steps in the transient-state phase. In order to improve the robustness of the path-following method, we use the residual regularization parameter to replace the traditional complementarity regularization parameter. Moreover, we prove the global convergence of the new method under the standard assumptions without the traditional assumption condition of the priority to feasibility over complementarity. Numerical results show that the new method is robust and efficient for the linear complementarity problem, especially for the dense cases. And it is more robust and faster than some state-of-the-art solvers such as the built-in subroutines PATH and MILES of the GAMS v28.2 (2019) environment. The computational time of the new method is about 1/3 to 1/10 of that of PATH for the dense linear complementarity problem.

Continuation Newton methods with deflation techniques for global optimization problems

The global minimum point of an optimization problem is of interest in engineering fields and it is difficult to be found, especially for a nonconvex large-scale optimization problem. In this article, we consider a new memetic algorithm for this problem. That is to say, we use the continuation Newton method with the deflation technique to find multiple stationary points of the objective function and use those found stationary points as the initial seeds of the evolutionary algorithm, other than the random initial seeds of the known evolutionary algorithms. Meanwhile, in order to retain the usability of the derivative-free method and the fast convergence of the gradient-based method, we use the automatic differentiation technique to compute the gradient and replace the Hessian matrix with its finite difference approximation. According to our numerical experiments, this new algorithm works well for unconstrained optimization problems and finds their global minima efficiently, in comparison to the other representative global optimization methods such as the multi-start methods (the built-in subroutine GlobalSearch.m of MATLAB R2021b, GLODS and VRBBO), the branch-and-bound method (Couenne, a state-of-the-art open-source solver for mixed integer nonlinear programming problems), and the derivative-free algorithms (CMA-ES and MCS).

The regularization continuation method with an adaptive time step control for linearly constrained optimization problems

This paper considers the regularization continuation method and the trust-region updating strategy for the optimization problem with linear equality constraints. The proposed method utilizes the linear conservation law of the regularization continuation method such that it does not need to compute the correction step for preserving the feasibility other than the previous continuation methods and the quasi-Newton updating formulas for the linearly constrained optimization problem. Moreover, the new method uses the special limited-memory Broyden-Fletcher-Goldfarb-Shanno (L-BFGS) formula as the preconditioning technique to improve its computational efficiency in the well-posed phase, and it uses the inverse of the regularized two-sided projection of the Lagrangian Hessian as the pre-conditioner to improve its robustness. Numerical results also show that the new method is more robust and faster than the traditional optimization method such as the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM),the sequential quadratic programming (SQP) method (the built-in subroutine fmincon.m of the MATLAB2020a environment), and the recent continuation method (Ptctr). The computational time of the new method is about 1/3 of that of SQP (fmincon.m). Finally, the global convergence analysis of the new method is also given.

Weak target detection with multi-bit quantization in colocated MIMO radar

We consider the weak target detection problem with unknown parameter in colocated multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar. To cope with the sheer amount of data for large-size systems, a multi-bit quantizer is utilized in the sampling process. As a low-complexity alternative to classic generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) for quantized data, we propose the multi-bit detector on Rao test with a closed-form test statistic, whose theoretical asymptotic distribution is provided to generalize the actual detection performance. Besides, we refine the design of quantizer by optimized quantization thresholds, which are obtained resorting to the popular particle swarm optimization algorithmthe (PSOA). The simulation is conducted to demonstrate the performance variations of detectors based on unquantized and quantized data. The numerical results corroborate our theoretical analyses and show that the performance with 3-bit quantization approaches the case without quantization.
