Efficient and Effective Retrieval of Dense-Sparse Hybrid Vectors using Graph-based Approximate Nearest Neighbor Search

ANNS for embedded vector representations of texts is commonly used in information retrieval, with two important information representations being sparse and dense vectors. While it has been shown that combining these representations improves accuracy, the current method of conducting sparse and dense vector searches separately suffers from low scalability and high system complexity. Alternatively, building a unified index faces challenges with accuracy and efficiency. To address these issues, we propose a graph-based ANNS algorithm for dense-sparse hybrid vectors. Firstly, we propose a distribution alignment method to improve accuracy, which pre-samples dense and sparse vectors to analyze their distance distribution statistic, resulting in a 1%$\sim$9% increase in accuracy. Secondly, to improve efficiency, we design an adaptive two-stage computation strategy that initially computes dense distances only and later computes hybrid distances. Further, we prune the sparse vectors to speed up the calculation. Compared to naive implementation, we achieve $\sim2.1\times$ acceleration. Thorough experiments show that our algorithm achieves 8.9x$\sim$11.7x throughput at equal accuracy compared to existing hybrid vector search algorithms.

MOSE: Monocular Semantic Reconstruction Using NeRF-Lifted Noisy Priors

Accurately reconstructing dense and semantically annotated 3D meshes from monocular images remains a challenging task due to the lack of geometry guidance and imperfect view-dependent 2D priors. Though we have witnessed recent advancements in implicit neural scene representations enabling precise 2D rendering simply from multi-view images, there have been few works addressing 3D scene understanding with monocular priors alone. In this paper, we propose MOSE, a neural field semantic reconstruction approach to lift inferred image-level noisy priors to 3D, producing accurate semantics and geometry in both 3D and 2D space. The key motivation for our method is to leverage generic class-agnostic segment masks as guidance to promote local consistency of rendered semantics during training. With the help of semantics, we further apply a smoothness regularization to texture-less regions for better geometric quality, thus achieving mutual benefits of geometry and semantics. Experiments on the ScanNet dataset show that our MOSE outperforms relevant baselines across all metrics on tasks of 3D semantic segmentation, 2D semantic segmentation and 3D surface reconstruction.

Consistent Truncations and Dualities

Recent progress in generalised geometry and extended field theories suggests a deep connection between consistent truncations and dualities, which is not immediately obvious. A prime example is generalised Scherk-Schwarz reductions in double field theory, which have been shown to be in one-to-one correspondence with Poisson-Lie T-duality. Here we demonstrate that this relation is only the tip of the iceberg. Currently, the most general known classes of T-dualities (excluding mirror symmetry) are based on dressing cosets. But as we discuss, they can be further extended to the even larger class of generalised cosets. We prove that the latter give rise to consistent truncations for which the ansatz can be constructed systematically. Hence, we pave the way for many new examples of T-dualities and consistent truncations. The arising structures result in covariant tensors with more than two derivatives and we argue how they might be key to understand generalised T-dualities and consistent truncations beyond the leading two derivative level.

Generalized Dualities and Supergroups

Using a recently developed formulation of double field theory in superspace, the graviton, $B$-field, gravitini, dilatini, and Ramond-Ramond bispinor are encoded in a single generalized supervielbein. Duality transformations are encoded as orthosymplectic transformations, extending the bosonic $O(D,D)$ duality group, and these act on all constituents of the supervielbein in an easily computable way. We first review conventional non-abelian T-duality in the Green-Schwarz superstring and describe the dual geometries in the language of double superspace. Since dualities are related to super-Killing vectors, this includes as special cases both abelian and non-abelian fermionic T-duality. We then extend this approach to include Poisson-Lie T-duality and its generalizations, including the generalized coset construction recently discussed in arXiv:1912.11036. As an application, we construct the supergeometries associated with the integrable $λ$ and $η$ deformations of the $AdS_5 \times S^5$ superstring. The deformation parameters $λ$ and $η$ are identified with the possible one-parameter embeddings of the supergravity frame within the doubled supergeometry. In this framework, the Ramond-Ramond bispinors are directly computable purely from the algebraic data of the supergroup.

Enhanced Prediction of Multi-Agent Trajectories via Control Inference and State-Space Dynamics

In the field of autonomous systems, accurately predicting the trajectories of nearby vehicles and pedestrians is crucial for ensuring both safety and operational efficiency. This paper introduces a novel methodology for trajectory forecasting based on state-space dynamic system modeling, which endows agents with models that have tangible physical implications. To enhance the precision of state estimations within the dynamic system, the paper also presents a novel modeling technique for control variables. This technique utilizes a newly introduced model, termed "Mixed Mamba," to derive initial control states, thereby improving the predictive accuracy of these variables. Moverover, the proposed approach ingeniously integrates graph neural networks with state-space models, effectively capturing the complexities of multi-agent interactions. This combination provides a robust and scalable framework for forecasting multi-agent trajectories across a range of scenarios. Comprehensive evaluations demonstrate that this model outperforms several established benchmarks across various metrics and datasets, highlighting its significant potential to advance trajectory forecasting in autonomous systems.

Learning Variable Impedance Skills from Demonstrations with Passivity Guarantee

Robots are increasingly being deployed not only in workplaces but also in households. Effectively execute of manipulation tasks by robots relies on variable impedance control with contact forces. Furthermore, robots should possess adaptive capabilities to handle the considerable variations exhibited by different robotic tasks in dynamic environments, which can be obtained through human demonstrations. This paper presents a learning-from-demonstration framework that integrates force sensing and motion information to facilitate variable impedance control. The proposed approach involves the estimation of full stiffness matrices from human demonstrations, which are then combined with sensed forces and motion information to create a model using the non-parametric method. This model allows the robot to replicate the demonstrated task while also responding appropriately to new task conditions through the use of the state-dependent stiffness profile. Additionally, a novel tank based variable impedance control approach is proposed to ensure passivity by using the learned stiffness. The proposed approach was evaluated using two virtual variable stiffness systems. The first evaluation demonstrates that the stiffness estimated approach exhibits superior robustness compared to traditional methods when tested on manual datasets, and the second evaluation illustrates that the novel tank based approach is more easily implementable compared to traditional variable impedance control approaches.

Panoramic single-pixel imaging with megapixel resolution based on rotational subdivision

Single-pixel imaging (SPI) using a single-pixel detector is an unconventional imaging method, which has great application prospects in many fields to realize high-performance imaging. In especial, the recent proposed catadioptric panoramic ghost imaging (CPGI) extends the application potential of SPI to high-performance imaging at a wide field of view (FOV) with recent growing demands. However, the resolution of CPGI is limited by hardware parameters of the digital micromirror device (DMD), which may not meet ultrahigh-resolution panoramic imaging needs that require detailed information. Therefore, to overcome the resolution limitation of CPGI, we propose a panoramic SPI based on rotational subdivision (RSPSI). The key of the proposed RSPSI is to obtain the entire panoramic scene by the rotation-scanning with a rotating mirror tilted 45°, so that one single pattern that only covers one sub-Fov with a small FOV can complete a uninterrupted modulation on the entire panoramic FOV during a once-through pattern projection. Then, based on temporal resolution subdivision, images sequence of sub-Fovs subdivided from the entire panoramic FOV can be reconstructed with pixels-level or even subpixels-level horizontal shifting adjacently. Experimental results using a proof-of-concept setup show that the panoramic image can be obtained with 10428*543 of 5,662,404 pixels, which is more than 9.6 times higher than the resolution limit of the CPGI using the same DMD. To our best knowledge, the RSPSI is the first to achieve a megapixel resolution via SPI, which can provide potential applications in fields requiring the imaging with ultrahigh-resolution and wide FOV.

Stabilizing Dynamic Systems through Neural Network Learning: A Robust Approach

Point-to-point and periodic motions are ubiquitous in the world of robotics. To master these motions, Autonomous Dynamic System (DS) based algorithms are fundamental in the domain of Learning from Demonstration (LfD). However, these algorithms face the significant challenge of balancing precision in learning with the maintenance of system stability. This paper addresses this challenge by presenting a novel ADS algorithm that leverages neural network technology. The proposed algorithm is designed to distill essential knowledge from demonstration data, ensuring stability during the learning of both point-to-point and periodic motions. For point-to-point motions, a neural Lyapunov function is proposed to align with the provided demonstrations. In the case of periodic motions, the neural Lyapunov function is used with the transversal contraction to ensure that all generated motions converge to a stable limit cycle. The model utilizes a streamlined neural network architecture, adept at achieving dual objectives: optimizing learning accuracy while maintaining global stability. To thoroughly assess the efficacy of the proposed algorithm, rigorous evaluations are conducted using the LASA dataset and a manually designed dataset. These assessments were complemented by empirical validation through robotic experiments, providing robust evidence of the algorithm's performance

Dataflow-Based Optimization for Quantum Intermediate Representation Programs

This paper proposes QDFO, a dataflow-based optimization approach to Microsoft QIR. QDFO consists of two main functions: one is to preprocess the QIR code so that the LLVM optimizer can capture more optimization opportunities, and the other is to optimize the QIR code so that duplicate loading and constructing of qubits and qubit arrays can be avoided. We evaluated our work on the IBM Challenge Dataset, the results show that our method effectively reduces redundant operations in the QIR code. We also completed a preliminary implementation of QDFO and conducted a case study on the real-world code. Our observational study indicates that the LLVM optimizer can further optimize the QIR code preprocessed by our algorithm. Both the experiments and the case study demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.

City-LEO: Toward Transparent City Management Using LLM with End-to-End Optimization

Existing operations research (OR) models and tools play indispensable roles in smart-city operations, yet their practical implementation is limited by the complexity of modeling and deficiencies in optimization proficiency. To generate more relevant and accurate solutions to users' requirements, we propose a large language model (LLM)-based agent ("City-LEO") that enhances the efficiency and transparency of city management through conversational interactions. Specifically, to accommodate diverse users' requirements and enhance computational tractability, City-LEO leverages LLM's logical reasoning capabilities on prior knowledge to scope down large-scale optimization problems efficiently. In the human-like decision process, City-LEO also incorporates End-to-end (E2E) model to synergize the prediction and optimization. The E2E framework be conducive to coping with environmental uncertainties and involving more query-relevant features, and then facilitates transparent and interpretable decision-making process. In case study, we employ City-LEO in the operations management of e-bike sharing (EBS) system. The numerical results demonstrate that City-LEO has superior performance when benchmarks against the full-scale optimization problem. With less computational time, City-LEO generates more satisfactory and relevant solutions to the users' requirements, and achieves lower global suboptimality without significantly compromising accuracy. In a broader sense, our proposed agent offers promise to develop LLM-embedded OR tools for smart-city operations management.

PolyGlotFake: A Novel Multilingual and Multimodal DeepFake Dataset

With the rapid advancement of generative AI, multimodal deepfakes, which manipulate both audio and visual modalities, have drawn increasing public concern. Currently, deepfake detection has emerged as a crucial strategy in countering these growing threats. However, as a key factor in training and validating deepfake detectors, most existing deepfake datasets primarily focus on the visual modal, and the few that are multimodal employ outdated techniques, and their audio content is limited to a single language, thereby failing to represent the cutting-edge advancements and globalization trends in current deepfake technologies. To address this gap, we propose a novel, multilingual, and multimodal deepfake dataset: PolyGlotFake. It includes content in seven languages, created using a variety of cutting-edge and popular Text-to-Speech, voice cloning, and lip-sync technologies. We conduct comprehensive experiments using state-of-the-art detection methods on PolyGlotFake dataset. These experiments demonstrate the dataset's significant challenges and its practical value in advancing research into multimodal deepfake detection.

Learning a Stable Dynamic System with a Lyapunov Energy Function for Demonstratives Using Neural Networks

Autonomous Dynamic System (DS)-based algorithms hold a pivotal and foundational role in the field of Learning from Demonstration (LfD). Nevertheless, they confront the formidable challenge of striking a delicate balance between achieving precision in learning and ensuring the overall stability of the system. In response to this substantial challenge, this paper introduces a novel DS algorithm rooted in neural network technology. This algorithm not only possesses the capability to extract critical insights from demonstration data but also demonstrates the capacity to learn a candidate Lyapunov energy function that is consistent with the provided data. The model presented in this paper employs a straightforward neural network architecture that excels in fulfilling a dual objective: optimizing accuracy while simultaneously preserving global stability. To comprehensively evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, rigorous assessments are conducted using the LASA dataset, further reinforced by empirical validation through a robotic experiment.

Singular limits in STU supergravity

We analyse the STU sectors of the four-dimensional maximal gauged supergravities with gauge groups ${\rm SO(8)}$, ${\rm SO(6)}\ltimes\mathbb{R}^{12}$ and $[{\rm SO(6)}\times{\rm SO(2)}]\ltimes\mathbb{R}^{12}$, and construct new domain-wall black-hole solutions in $D=4$. The consistent Kaluza-Klein embedding of these theories is obtained using the techniques of Exceptional Field Theory combined with the 4$d$ tensor hierarchies, and their respective uplifts into $D=11$ and type IIB supergravities are connected through singular limits that relate the different gaugings.

360ORB-SLAM: A Visual SLAM System for Panoramic Images with Depth Completion Network

To enhance the performance and effect of AR/VR applications and visual assistance and inspection systems, visual simultaneous localization and mapping (vSLAM) is a fundamental task in computer vision and robotics. However, traditional vSLAM systems are limited by the camera's narrow field-of-view, resulting in challenges such as sparse feature distribution and lack of dense depth information. To overcome these limitations, this paper proposes a 360ORB-SLAM system for panoramic images that combines with a depth completion network. The system extracts feature points from the panoramic image, utilizes a panoramic triangulation module to generate sparse depth information, and employs a depth completion network to obtain a dense panoramic depth map. Experimental results on our novel panoramic dataset constructed based on Carla demonstrate that the proposed method achieves superior scale accuracy compared to existing monocular SLAM methods and effectively addresses the challenges of feature association and scale ambiguity. The integration of the depth completion network enhances system stability and mitigates the impact of dynamic elements on SLAM performance.

Learning Language-guided Adaptive Hyper-modality Representation for Multimodal Sentiment Analysis

Though Multimodal Sentiment Analysis (MSA) proves effective by utilizing rich information from multiple sources (e.g., language, video, and audio), the potential sentiment-irrelevant and conflicting information across modalities may hinder the performance from being further improved. To alleviate this, we present Adaptive Language-guided Multimodal Transformer (ALMT), which incorporates an Adaptive Hyper-modality Learning (AHL) module to learn an irrelevance/conflict-suppressing representation from visual and audio features under the guidance of language features at different scales. With the obtained hyper-modality representation, the model can obtain a complementary and joint representation through multimodal fusion for effective MSA. In practice, ALMT achieves state-of-the-art performance on several popular datasets (e.g., MOSI, MOSEI and CH-SIMS) and an abundance of ablation demonstrates the validity and necessity of our irrelevance/conflict suppression mechanism.

Flexible uniform-sampling foveated Fourier single-pixel imaging

Fourier single-pixel imaging (FSI) is a data-efficient single-pixel imaging (SPI). However, there is still a serious challenge to obtain higher imaging quality using fewer measurements, which limits the development of real-time SPI. In this work, a uniform-sampling foveated FSI (UFFSI) is proposed with three features, uniform sampling, effective sampling and flexible fovea, to achieve under-sampling high-efficiency and high-quality SPI, even in a large-scale scene. First, by flexibly using the three proposed foveated pattern structures, data redundancy is reduced significantly to only require high resolution (HR) on regions of interest (ROIs), which radically reduces the need of total data number. Next, by the non-uniform weight distribution processing, non-uniform spatial sampling is transformed into uniform sampling, then the fast Fourier transform is used accurately and directly to obtain under-sampling high imaging quality with further reduced measurements. At a sampling ratio of 0.0084 referring to HR FSI with 1024*768 pixels, experimentally, by UFFSI with 255*341 cells of 89% reduction in data redundancy, the ROI has a significantly better imaging quality to meet imaging needs. We hope this work can provide a breakthrough for future real-time SPI.

SAMN: A Sample Attention Memory Network Combining SVM and NN in One Architecture

Support vector machine (SVM) and neural networks (NN) have strong complementarity. SVM focuses on the inner operation among samples while NN focuses on the operation among the features within samples. Thus, it is promising and attractive to combine SVM and NN, as it may provide a more powerful function than SVM or NN alone. However, current work on combining them lacks true integration. To address this, we propose a sample attention memory network (SAMN) that effectively combines SVM and NN by incorporating sample attention module, class prototypes, and memory block to NN. SVM can be viewed as a sample attention machine. It allows us to add a sample attention module to NN to implement the main function of SVM. Class prototypes are representatives of all classes, which can be viewed as alternatives to support vectors. The memory block is used for the storage and update of class prototypes. Class prototypes and memory block effectively reduce the computational cost of sample attention and make SAMN suitable for multi-classification tasks. Extensive experiments show that SAMN achieves better classification performance than single SVM or single NN with similar parameter sizes, as well as the previous best model for combining SVM and NN. The sample attention mechanism is a flexible module that can be easily deepened and incorporated into neural networks that require it.

A Hierarchical Destroy and Repair Approach for Solving Very Large-Scale Travelling Salesman Problem

For prohibitively large-scale Travelling Salesman Problems (TSPs), existing algorithms face big challenges in terms of both computational efficiency and solution quality. To address this issue, we propose a hierarchical destroy-and-repair (HDR) approach, which attempts to improve an initial solution by applying a series of carefully designed destroy-and-repair operations. A key innovative concept is the hierarchical search framework, which recursively fixes partial edges and compresses the input instance into a small-scale TSP under some equivalence guarantee. This neat search framework is able to deliver highly competitive solutions within a reasonable time. Fair comparisons based on nineteen famous large-scale instances (with 10,000 to 10,000,000 cities) show that HDR is highly competitive against existing state-of-the-art TSP algorithms, in terms of both efficiency and solution quality. Notably, on two large instances with 3,162,278 and 10,000,000 cities, HDR breaks the world records (i.e., best-known results regardless of computation time), which were previously achieved by LKH and its variants, while HDR is completely independent of LKH. Finally, ablation studies are performed to certify the importance and validity of the hierarchical search framework.
