On the relation between S-spectrum and right spectrum

We use the $\mathbb{R}$-linearity of $Iλ-T$ to define $σ(T)$, the right spectrum of a right $\mathbb{H}$-linear operator $T$ in a right quaternionic Hilbert space. We show that $σ(T)$ coincides with the $S$-spectrum $σ_S(T)$.

A note on the essential numerical range of block diagonal operators

In this note we characterize the essential numerical range of a block diagonal o\-pe\-ra\-tor $T=\bigoplus_i T_i$ in terms of the numerical ranges $\{W(T_i)\}_i$ of its components. Specifically, the essential numerical range of $T$ is the convex hull of the limit superior of $\{W(T_i)\}_i$. This characterization can be simplified further. In fact, we prove the existence of a decomposition of $T$ for which the convex hull is not required.

On the convexity of the quaternionic essential numerical range

The numerical range in the quaternionic setting is, in general, a non convex subset of the quaternions. The essential numerical range is a refinement of the numerical range that only keeps the elements that have, in a certain sense, infinite multiplicity. We prove that the essential numerical range of a bounded linear operator on a quaternionic Hilbert space is convex. A quaternionic analogue of Lancaster theorem, relating the closure of the numerical range and its essential numerical range, is also provided.

Monads on projective varieties

We generalise Fløystad's theorem on the existence of monads on the projective space to a larger set of projective varieties. We consider a variety $X$, a line bundle $L$ on $X$, and a base-point-free linear system of sections of $L$ giving a morphism to the projective space whose image is either arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay (ACM), or linearly normal and not contained in a quadric. We give necessary and sufficient conditions on integers $a$, $b$, and $c$ for a monad of type \[ 0\to(L^\vee)^a\to\mathcal{O}_{X}^{\,b}\to L^c\to0 \] to exist. We show that under certain conditions there exists a monad whose cohomology sheaf is simple. We furthermore characterise low-rank vector bundles that are the cohomology sheaf of some monad as above. Finally, we obtain an irreducible family of monads over the projective space and make a description on how the same method could be used on an ACM smooth projective variety $X$. We establish the existence of a coarse moduli space of low-rank vector bundles over an odd-dimensional $X$ and show that in one case this moduli space is irreducible.

Schwarzenberger bundles on smooth projective varieties

We define Schwarzenberger bundles on any smooth projective variety X. We introduce the notions of jumping pairs of a Steiner bundle E on X and determine a bound for the dimension of its jumping locus. We completely classify Steiner bundles whose set of jumping pairs have maximal dimension, proving that they are all Schwarzenberger bundles.
