ReRoom: Blending Virtual and Physical Contexts for In Situ Room Planning in Mixed Reality

Planning a real domestic space is an in situ authoring process: users evaluate candidate layouts at true scale, refine their intent, and carry accepted decisions into later iterations. Existing approaches either separate layout editing from the physical room or provide limited support for evaluating and refining whole-room proposals in situ. We present ReRoom, a mixed-reality system for in situ room-layout authoring. ReRoom presents a shared layout state through a virtual room proxy spatially registered to the target room, allowing interaction and layout generation to remain grounded in the physical context. Users refine the current proposal through direct manipulation or language and preserve accepted placements, allowing each generated update to continue the same evolving design. To balance layout quality with generation efficiency, ReRoom uses a skill-guided layout agent whose room-layout design skill operationalizes three principles that we formulate by synthesizing established interior-design guidance for real-room layout generation. The skill grounds these principles in a normalized representation of the scanned room and reusable geometric checks. Evaluations show that ReRoom produces high-quality layouts for non-rectangular rooms, while its in situ workflow improves the room-planning experience over an otherwise equivalent off-site VR workflow. Code will be released upon acceptance of the paper.

Visualizing the Invisible: Enhancing Radiologist Performance in Breast Mammography via Task-Driven Chromatic Encoding

Purpose:Mammography screening is less sensitive in dense breasts, where tissue overlap and subtle findings increase perceptual difficulty. We present MammoColor, an end-to-end framework with a Task-Driven Chromatic Encoding (TDCE) module that converts single-channel mammograms into TDCE-encoded views for visual augmentation. Materials and Methods:MammoColor couples a lightweight TDCE module with a BI-RADS triage classifier and was trained end-to-end on VinDr-Mammo. Performance was evaluated on an internal test set, two public datasets (CBIS-DDSM and INBreast), and three external clinical cohorts. We also conducted a multi-reader, multi-case (MRMC) observer study with a washout period, comparing (1) grayscale-only, (2) TDCE-only, and (3) side-by-side grayscale+TDCE. Results:On VinDr-Mammo, MammoColor improved AUC from 0.7669 to 0.8461 (P=0.004). Gains were larger in dense breasts (AUC 0.749 to 0.835). In the MRMC study, TDCE-encoded images improved specificity (0.90 to 0.96; P=0.052) with comparable sensitivity. Conclusion:TDCE provides a task-optimized chromatic representation that may improve perceptual salience and reduce false-positive recalls in mammography triage.

LLaViDA: A Large Language Vision Driving Assistant for Explicit Reasoning and Enhanced Trajectory Planning

Trajectory planning is a fundamental yet challenging component of autonomous driving. End-to-end planners frequently falter under adverse weather, unpredictable human behavior, or complex road layouts, primarily because they lack strong generalization or few-shot capabilities beyond their training data. We propose LLaViDA, a Large Language Vision Driving Assistant that leverages a Vision-Language Model (VLM) for object motion prediction, semantic grounding, and chain-of-thought reasoning for trajectory planning in autonomous driving. A two-stage training pipeline--supervised fine-tuning followed by Trajectory Preference Optimization (TPO)--enhances scene understanding and trajectory planning by injecting regression-based supervision, produces a powerful "VLM Trajectory Planner for Autonomous Driving." On the NuScenes benchmark, LLaViDA surpasses state-of-the-art end-to-end and other recent VLM/LLM-based baselines in open-loop trajectory planning task, achieving an average L2 trajectory error of 0.31 m and a collision rate of 0.10% on the NuScenes test set. The code for this paper is available at GitHub.

AMMNet: An Asymmetric Multi-Modal Network for Remote Sensing Semantic Segmentation

Semantic segmentation in remote sensing (RS) has advanced significantly with the incorporation of multi-modal data, particularly the integration of RGB imagery and the Digital Surface Model (DSM), which provides complementary contextual and structural information about the ground object. However, integrating RGB and DSM often faces two major limitations: increased computational complexity due to architectural redundancy, and degraded segmentation performance caused by modality misalignment. These issues undermine the efficiency and robustness of semantic segmentation, particularly in complex urban environments where precise multi-modal integration is essential. To overcome these limitations, we propose Asymmetric Multi-Modal Network (AMMNet), a novel asymmetric architecture that achieves robust and efficient semantic segmentation through three designs tailored for RGB-DSM input pairs. To reduce architectural redundancy, the Asymmetric Dual Encoder (ADE) module assigns representational capacity based on modality-specific characteristics, employing a deeper encoder for RGB imagery to capture rich contextual information and a lightweight encoder for DSM to extract sparse structural features. Besides, to facilitate modality alignment, the Asymmetric Prior Fuser (APF) integrates a modality-aware prior matrix into the fusion process, enabling the generation of structure-aware contextual features. Additionally, the Distribution Alignment (DA) module enhances cross-modal compatibility by aligning feature distributions through divergence minimization. Extensive experiments on the ISPRS Vaihingen and Potsdam datasets demonstrate that AMMNet attains state-of-the-art segmentation accuracy among multi-modal networks while reducing computational and memory requirements.

MoGraphGPT: Creating Interactive Scenes Using Modular LLM and Graphical Control

Creating interactive scenes often involves complex programming tasks. Although large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT can generate code from natural language, their output is often error-prone, particularly when scripting interactions among multiple elements. The linear conversational structure limits the editing of individual elements, and lacking graphical and precise control complicates visual integration. To address these issues, we integrate an element-level modularization technique that processes textual descriptions for individual elements through separate LLM modules, with a central module managing interactions among elements. This modular approach allows for refining each element independently. We design a graphical user interface, MoGraphGPT , which combines modular LLMs with enhanced graphical control to generate codes for 2D interactive scenes. It enables direct integration of graphical information and offers quick, precise control through automatically generated sliders. Our comparative evaluation against an AI coding tool, Cursor Composer, as the baseline system and a usability study show MoGraphGPT significantly improves easiness, controllability, and refinement in creating complex 2D interactive scenes with multiple visual elements in a coding-free manner.

Dynamic tuning of ENZ wavelength in conductive polymer films via polaron excitation

Traditional metal and n-type doped semiconductor materials serve as emerging epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) materials, showcasing great potential for nonlinear photonic applications. However, a significant limitation for such materials is the lack of versatile ENZ wavelength tuning, and thus dynamic tuning of the ENZ wavelength remains a technical challenge, thereby restricting their potential applications, such as multi-band communications. Here, dynamic tuning of the ENZ wavelength in p-type organic PEDOT: PSS films is achieved through a reversible change in hole concentrations originated from the polaron formation/decoupling following optical excitation, and a tunable ENZ wavelength shift up to 150 nm is observed. Experimental investigations about ultrafast dynamics of polaron excitation reveal an approximately 80 fs time constant for polaron buildup and an approximately 280 fs time constant for polaron decoupling, indicating the potential of reversal ultrafast switching for the ENZ wavelength within subpicosecond time scale. These findings suggest that $p$--type organic semiconductors can serve as a novel platform for dynamically tuning the ENZ wavelength through polaron excitation, opening new possibilities for ENZ--based nonlinear optical applications in flexible optoelectronics.

Adaptively Augmented Consistency Learning: A Semi-supervised Segmentation Framework for Remote Sensing

Remote sensing (RS) involves the acquisition of data about objects or areas from a distance, primarily to monitor environmental changes, manage resources, and support planning and disaster response. A significant challenge in RS segmentation is the scarcity of high-quality labeled images due to the diversity and complexity of RS image, which makes pixel-level annotation difficult and hinders the development of effective supervised segmentation algorithms. To solve this problem, we propose Adaptively Augmented Consistency Learning (AACL), a semi-supervised segmentation framework designed to enhances RS segmentation accuracy under condictions of limited labeled data. AACL extracts additional information embedded in unlabeled images through the use of Uniform Strength Augmentation (USAug) and Adaptive Cut-Mix (AdaCM). Evaluations across various RS datasets demonstrate that AACL achieves competitive performance in semi-supervised segmentation, showing up to a 20% improvement in specific categories and 2% increase in overall performance compared to state-of-the-art frameworks.

UAV3D: A Large-scale 3D Perception Benchmark for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), equipped with cameras, are employed in numerous applications, including aerial photography, surveillance, and agriculture. In these applications, robust object detection and tracking are essential for the effective deployment of UAVs. However, existing benchmarks for UAV applications are mainly designed for traditional 2D perception tasks, restricting the development of real-world applications that require a 3D understanding of the environment. Furthermore, despite recent advancements in single-UAV perception, limited views of a single UAV platform significantly constrain its perception capabilities over long distances or in occluded areas. To address these challenges, we introduce UAV3D, a benchmark designed to advance research in both 3D and collaborative 3D perception tasks with UAVs. UAV3D comprises 1,000 scenes, each of which has 20 frames with fully annotated 3D bounding boxes on vehicles. We provide the benchmark for four 3D perception tasks: single-UAV 3D object detection, single-UAV object tracking, collaborative-UAV 3D object detection, and collaborative-UAV object tracking. Our dataset and code are available at https://huiyegit.github.io/UAV3D_Benchmark/.

Less is More: Skim Transformer for Light Field Image Super-resolution

A light field image captures scenes through its micro-lens array, providing a rich representation that encompasses spatial and angular information. While this richness comes at significant data redundancy, most existing methods tend to indiscriminately utilize all the information from sub-aperture images (SAIs) in an attempt to harness every visual cue regardless of their disparity significance. However, this paradigm inevitably leads to disparity entanglement, a fundamental cause of inefficiency in light field image processing. To address this limitation, we introduce the Skim Transformer, a novel architecture inspired by the "less is more" philosophy. It features a multi-branch structure where each branch is dedicated to a specific disparity range by constructing its attention score matrix over a skimmed subset of SAIs, rather than all of them. Building upon it, we present SkimLFSR, an efficient yet powerful network for light field image super-resolution. Requiring only 67% of the prior leading method's parameters}, SkimLFSR achieves state-of-the-art results surpassing the best existing method by 0.63 dB and 0.35 dB PSNR at the 2x and 4x tasks, respectively. Through in-depth analyses, we reveal that SkimLFSR, guided by the predefined skimmed SAI sets as prior knowledge, demonstrates distinct disparity-aware behaviors in attending to visual cues. Last but not least, we conduct an experiment to validate SkimLFSR's generalizability across different angular resolutions, where it achieves competitive performance on a larger angular resolution without any retraining or major network modifications. These findings highlight its effectiveness and adaptability as a promising paradigm for light field image processing.

Sketch2Human: Deep Human Generation with Disentangled Geometry and Appearance Control

Geometry- and appearance-controlled full-body human image generation is an interesting but challenging task. Existing solutions are either unconditional or dependent on coarse conditions (e.g., pose, text), thus lacking explicit geometry and appearance control of body and garment. Sketching offers such editing ability and has been adopted in various sketch-based face generation and editing solutions. However, directly adapting sketch-based face generation to full-body generation often fails to produce high-fidelity and diverse results due to the high complexity and diversity in the pose, body shape, and garment shape and texture. Recent geometrically controllable diffusion-based methods mainly rely on prompts to generate appearance and it is hard to balance the realism and the faithfulness of their results to the sketch when the input is coarse. This work presents Sketch2Human, the first system for controllable full-body human image generation guided by a semantic sketch (for geometry control) and a reference image (for appearance control). Our solution is based on the latent space of StyleGAN-Human with inverted geometry and appearance latent codes as input. Specifically, we present a sketch encoder trained with a large synthetic dataset sampled from StyleGAN-Human's latent space and directly supervised by sketches rather than real images. Considering the entangled information of partial geometry and texture in StyleGAN-Human and the absence of disentangled datasets, we design a novel training scheme that creates geometry-preserved and appearance-transferred training data to tune a generator to achieve disentangled geometry and appearance control. Although our method is trained with synthetic data, it can handle hand-drawn sketches as well. Qualitative and quantitative evaluations demonstrate the superior performance of our method to state-of-the-art methods.

MatchXML: An Efficient Text-label Matching Framework for Extreme Multi-label Text Classification

The eXtreme Multi-label text Classification(XMC) refers to training a classifier that assigns a text sample with relevant labels from an extremely large-scale label set (e.g., millions of labels). We propose MatchXML, an efficient text-label matching framework for XMC. We observe that the label embeddings generated from the sparse Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency(TF-IDF) features have several limitations. We thus propose label2vec to effectively train the semantic dense label embeddings by the Skip-gram model. The dense label embeddings are then used to build a Hierarchical Label Tree by clustering. In fine-tuning the pre-trained encoder Transformer, we formulate the multi-label text classification as a text-label matching problem in a bipartite graph. We then extract the dense text representations from the fine-tuned Transformer. Besides the fine-tuned dense text embeddings, we also extract the static dense sentence embeddings from a pre-trained Sentence Transformer. Finally, a linear ranker is trained by utilizing the sparse TF-IDF features, the fine-tuned dense text representations and static dense sentence features. Experimental results demonstrate that MatchXML achieves state-of-the-art accuracy on five out of six datasets. As for the speed, MatchXML outperforms the competing methods on all the six datasets. Our source code is publicly available at https://github.com/huiyegit/MatchXML.

FraudAuditor: A Visual Analytics Approach for Collusive Fraud in Health Insurance

Collusive fraud, in which multiple fraudsters collude to defraud health insurance funds, threatens the operation of the healthcare system. However, existing statistical and machine learning-based methods have limited ability to detect fraud in the scenario of health insurance due to the high similarity of fraudulent behaviors to normal medical visits and the lack of labeled data. To ensure the accuracy of the detection results, expert knowledge needs to be integrated with the fraud detection process. By working closely with health insurance audit experts, we propose FraudAuditor, a three-stage visual analytics approach to collusive fraud detection in health insurance. Specifically, we first allow users to interactively construct a co-visit network to holistically model the visit relationships of different patients. Second, an improved community detection algorithm that considers the strength of fraud likelihood is designed to detect suspicious fraudulent groups. Finally, through our visual interface, users can compare, investigate, and verify suspicious patient behavior with tailored visualizations that support different time scales. We conducted case studies in a real-world healthcare scenario, i.e., to help locate the actual fraud group and exclude the false positive group. The results and expert feedback proved the effectiveness and usability of the approach.

Organic metallic epsilon-near-zero materials with large ultrafast optical nonlinearity

Epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) materials have shown significant potential for nonlinear optical applications due to their ultrafast hot carriers and consequent optical nonlinearity enhancement. Modified poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) films show metallic characteristics and a resultant ENZ wavelength near 1550nm through polar solvent treatment and annealing. The metallic PEDOT film exhibits an intrinsic optical nonlinear response that is comparable to gold and 100-fold higher than typical inorganic semiconductor ENZ materials due to {\pi}-conjugated delocalized electrons. Hot carriers generate a 22-fold increase in the optical nonlinearity coefficient of metallic PEDOT films at 1550 nm. Hot holes in metallic PEDOT films have a smaller enhancement multiple of carrier temperature and a longer relaxation time than hot electrons in inorganic ENZ materials due to the larger imaginary permittivity and hot-phonon bottleneck for carrier cooling. Our findings suggest that {\pi}-conjugated ENZ polymer may have unique ultrafast and nonlinear optical properties compared to inorganic ENZ materials, enabling new possibilities in on-chip nanophotonic devices, nonlinear optics, and plasmonics.

DrawingInStyles: Portrait Image Generation and Editing with Spatially Conditioned StyleGAN

The research topic of sketch-to-portrait generation has witnessed a boost of progress with deep learning techniques. The recently proposed StyleGAN architectures achieve state-of-the-art generation ability but the original StyleGAN is not friendly for sketch-based creation due to its unconditional generation nature. To address this issue, we propose a direct conditioning strategy to better preserve the spatial information under the StyleGAN framework. Specifically, we introduce Spatially Conditioned StyleGAN (SC-StyleGAN for short), which explicitly injects spatial constraints to the original StyleGAN generation process. We explore two input modalities, sketches and semantic maps, which together allow users to express desired generation results more precisely and easily. Based on SC-StyleGAN, we present DrawingInStyles, a novel drawing interface for non-professional users to easily produce high-quality, photo-realistic face images with precise control, either from scratch or editing existing ones. Qualitative and quantitative evaluations show the superior generation ability of our method to existing and alternative solutions. The usability and expressiveness of our system are confirmed by a user study.

Ultra-compact Si/In$_2$O$_3$ hybrid plasmonic waveguide modulator with a high bandwidth beyond 40 GHz

Optical modulators are required to have high modulation bandwidths and a compact footprint. In this paper we experimentally demonstrate a novel Si/In$_2$O$_3$ hybrid plasmonic waveguide modulator, which is realized by an asymmetric directional coupler (ADC) consisting of a silicon photonic waveguide and a Si/In$_2$O$_3$ hybrid plasmonic waveguide. The optical signal is modulated by radio-frequency (RF) signal applied on the Au electrodes at the top of MOS capacitor and contacting the In$_2$O$_3$ thin film. The record-high modulation bandwidth of >40 GHz is realized by a silicon-doping-free metal-oxide-In$_2$O$_3$ capacitor integrated in a 3.5-$\mu$m-long asymmetric directional coupler (ADC) for the first time.

Improving Text-to-Image Synthesis Using Contrastive Learning

The goal of text-to-image synthesis is to generate a visually realistic image that matches a given text description. In practice, the captions annotated by humans for the same image have large variance in terms of contents and the choice of words. The linguistic discrepancy between the captions of the identical image leads to the synthetic images deviating from the ground truth. To address this issue, we propose a contrastive learning approach to improve the quality and enhance the semantic consistency of synthetic images. In the pretraining stage, we utilize the contrastive learning approach to learn the consistent textual representations for the captions corresponding to the same image. Furthermore, in the following stage of GAN training, we employ the contrastive learning method to enhance the consistency between the generated images from the captions related to the same image. We evaluate our approach over two popular text-to-image synthesis models, AttnGAN and DM-GAN, on datasets CUB and COCO, respectively. Experimental results have shown that our approach can effectively improve the quality of synthetic images in terms of three metrics: IS, FID and R-precision. Especially, on the challenging COCO dataset, our approach boosts the FID signifcantly by 29.60% over AttnGAN and by 21.96% over DM-GAN.

Generative Max-Mahalanobis Classifiers for Image Classification, Generation and More

Joint Energy-based Model (JEM) of Grathwohl et al. shows that a standard softmax classifier can be reinterpreted as an energy-based model (EBM) for the joint distribution p(x,y); the resulting model can be optimized to improve calibration, robustness, and out-of-distribution detection, while generating samples rivaling the quality of recent GAN-based approaches. However, the softmax classifier that JEM exploits is inherently discriminative and its latent feature space is not well formulated as probabilistic distributions, which may hinder its potential for image generation and incur training instability. We hypothesize that generative classifiers, such as Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA), might be more suitable for image generation since generative classifiers model the data generation process explicitly. This paper therefore investigates an LDA classifier for image classification and generation. In particular, the Max-Mahalanobis Classifier (MMC), a special case of LDA, fits our goal very well. We show that our Generative MMC (GMMC) can be trained discriminatively, generatively, or jointly for image classification and generation. Extensive experiments on multiple datasets show that GMMC achieves state-of-the-art discriminative and generative performances, while outperforming JEM in calibration, adversarial robustness, and out-of-distribution detection by a significant margin. Our source code is available at https://github.com/sndnyang/GMMC.

Pretrained Generalized Autoregressive Model with Adaptive Probabilistic Label Clusters for Extreme Multi-label Text Classification

Extreme multi-label text classification (XMTC) is a task for tagging a given text with the most relevant labels from an extremely large label set. We propose a novel deep learning method called APLC-XLNet. Our approach fine-tunes the recently released generalized autoregressive pretrained model (XLNet) to learn a dense representation for the input text. We propose Adaptive Probabilistic Label Clusters (APLC) to approximate the cross entropy loss by exploiting the unbalanced label distribution to form clusters that explicitly reduce the computational time. Our experiments, carried out on five benchmark datasets, show that our approach has achieved new state-of-the-art results on four benchmark datasets. Our source code is available publicly at https://github.com/huiyegit/APLC_XLNet.
