On the Well-Posedness of Periodic Strong Transonic Shocks in Divergent Nozzles

This paper studies the $C^1$ existence and dynamical stability of temporal periodic solutions involving strong transonic shocks for the quasi--one--dimensional full compressible Euler equations in diverging nozzles. We reveal the physical structural dissipation mechanism of strong transonic shocks hidden in the Rankine--Hugoniot conditions. This allows us to estimate the resonance at the shock boundary caused by the left acoustic waves in the subsonic downstream region. With this dissipation, we complete the proof by developing a fraction--step linearized iterative method.

Subsonic time-periodic solutions to radially symmetric spiral flows in an annulus

We investigate subsonic time-periodic solutions to the radially symmetric non-isentropic Euler system with nonzero angular velocity in an annulus. Under the assumption that the boundary conditions are dissipative on the inner circle and non-dissipative on the outer circle, we establish the existence and stability of time-periodic solutions which are close to steady radially symmetric subsonic spiral flows. It is worth noting that there is no smallness restriction on the background subsonic solutions. The main difficulties arise from the derivative loss caused by the coupling with the radial entropy derivative and the additional zeroth-order terms induced by the nonzero angular velocity in the diagonalized system. One of the key ingredients of the analysis is to rewrite the radial derivative of the entropy as a derivative along the first or fourth characteristic direction. Another one is to control the accumulation of perturbations along characteristic curves by suitably restricting the width of the annulus.

On multi-fidelity methods for a tumor growth model with uncertainties

We develop a hierarchical multi-fidelity (MF) framework for efficient uncertainty quantification of porous-medium equation (PME) tumor growth models with moving free boundaries. The proposed approach combines coarse-grid PME solvers, level-set approximations of the Hele--Shaw limit, and fine-grid asymptotic-preserving PME discretizations, thereby integrating both discretization-based and asymptotic-model-based fidelity reduction. To guide the selection of high-fidelity samples, we introduce a residual-based farthest-point sampling (RFPS) criterion that combines projection residual information with a distance-based separation term in the low-fidelity snapshot space. Based on this criterion, we construct both bi-fidelity and tri-fidelity approximations, together with empirical error indicators for adaptive refinement. Numerical experiments are conducted in both bi-fidelity and tri-fidelity settings under several uncertainty scenarios, showing that the proposed multi-fidelity approximations achieve accurate results with reduced high-fidelity sampling cost in the reported tests.

Existence of detonation wave solutions to the piston problem for the Zeldovich-von Neumann-D{\"o}ring combustion model

In this paper, we study detonation wave solutions to one-dimensional piston problem for the Zeldovich-von Neumann-D{\"o}ring (ZND) combustion model with a one-step exothermic chemical reaction. As a special type of shock wave, the position of the detonation wave is unknown, which make our model to be a free boundary problem.~The global existence of detonation wave solutions to this free boundary problem is proved. Compared with previous result~\cite{Lai}, we do not impose any dissipation conditions on the equations and the boundaries.

The relaxation limit of a homogeneous two-phase flow model: isothermal case

This paper investigates the asymptotic behavior of a hyperbolic relaxation system designed for homogeneous two-phase flows in the limit of vanishing relaxation time. The governing equations comprise conservation laws for mixture mass and momentum, supplemented by a transport equation for the gas phase mass that includes a stiff relaxation source term. This source term drives the system toward local thermodynamic equilibrium. Under the assumptions of constant liquid density and an ideal isothermal gas phase, we demonstrate that, as the relaxation parameter \(\epsilon \rightarrow 0\), a subsequence of solutions \((p^{\epsilon},u^{\epsilon})\) converges strongly in \(L_{\mathrm{loc}}^{1}\) to an entropy solution of the equilibrium Euler system. The proof integrates several analytical techniques: the construction of a suitable entropy pair and associated energy estimates, a transport equation approach for representing the error, commutator estimates, and the theory of compensated compactness. This work provides a rigorous justification of the relaxation limit for the homogeneous two-phase flows model.

Orientation Matters: Making 3D Generative Models Orientation-Aligned

Humans intuitively perceive object shape and orientation from a single image, guided by strong priors about canonical poses. However, existing 3D generative models often produce misaligned results due to inconsistent training data, limiting their usability in downstream tasks. To address this gap, we introduce the task of orientation-aligned 3D object generation: producing 3D objects from single images with consistent orientations across categories. To facilitate this, we construct Objaverse-OA, a dataset of 14,832 orientation-aligned 3D models spanning 1,008 categories. Leveraging Objaverse-OA, we fine-tune two representative 3D generative models based on multi-view diffusion and 3D variational autoencoder frameworks to produce aligned objects that generalize well to unseen objects across various categories. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of our method over post-hoc alignment approaches. Furthermore, we showcase downstream applications enabled by our aligned object generation, including zero-shot object orientation estimation via analysis-by-synthesis and efficient arrow-based object rotation manipulation.

Efficient stochastic asymptotic-preserving scheme for tumor growth models with uncertain parameters

In this paper, we investigate a class of tumor growth models governed by porous medium-type equations with uncertainties arisen from the growth function, initial condition, tumor support radius or other parameters in the model. We develop a stochastic asymptotic preservation (s-AP) scheme in the generalized polynomial chaos-stochastic Galerkin (gPC-SG) framework, which remains robust for all index parameters $m\geq 2$. The regularity of the solution to porous medium equations in the random space is studied, and we show the s-AP property, ensuring the convergence of SG system on the continuous level to that of Hele-Shaw dynamics as $m \to \infty$. Our numerical experiments, including capturing the behaviors such as finger-like projection, proliferating, quiescent and dead cell's evolution, validate the accuracy and efficiency of our designed scheme. The numerical results can describe the impact of stochastic parameters on tumor interface evolutions and pattern formations.

Time-periodic transonic shock solution in divergent nozzles

We demonstrate that it is possible to control a normal transonic shock to move periodically by adjusting the boundary conditions at the entrance or the exit of the tube, for which, the phenomena has been observed in engineering. In this paper, we describe the gas by a quasi-one-dimensional compressible Euler equations with temporal periodic boundary conditions and prove the global existence and dynamical stability of the time-periodic transonic shock solution with an iteration method. The major difficulty is to determine the position of the moving shock front, which can be obtained by a free boundary problem in the subsonic domain. We decouple this free boundary problem by the $Rankine-Hugoniot$ conditions and a two-step iteration process.

UrbanCAD: Towards Highly Controllable and Photorealistic 3D Vehicles for Urban Scene Simulation

Photorealistic 3D vehicle models with high controllability are essential for autonomous driving simulation and data augmentation. While handcrafted CAD models provide flexible controllability, free CAD libraries often lack the high-quality materials necessary for photorealistic rendering. Conversely, reconstructed 3D models offer high-fidelity rendering but lack controllability. In this work, we introduce UrbanCAD, a framework that generates highly controllable and photorealistic 3D vehicle digital twins from a single urban image, leveraging a large collection of free 3D CAD models and handcrafted materials. To achieve this, we propose a novel pipeline that follows a retrieval-optimization manner, adapting to observational data while preserving fine-grained expert-designed priors for both geometry and material. This enables vehicles' realistic 360-degree rendering, background insertion, material transfer, relighting, and component manipulation. Furthermore, given multi-view background perspective and fisheye images, we approximate environment lighting using fisheye images and reconstruct the background with 3DGS, enabling the photorealistic insertion of optimized CAD models into rendered novel view backgrounds. Experimental results demonstrate that UrbanCAD outperforms baselines in terms of photorealism. Additionally, we show that various perception models maintain their accuracy when evaluated on UrbanCAD with in-distribution configurations but degrade when applied to realistic out-of-distribution data generated by our method. This suggests that UrbanCAD is a significant advancement in creating photorealistic, safety-critical driving scenarios for downstream applications.

Subsonic time-periodic solution to damped compressible Euler equations with large entropy

In this paper, one-dimensional nonisentropic compressible Euler equations with linear damping $\alpha(x)\rho u$ are analyzed.~We want to explore the conditions under which a subsonic temporal periodic boundary can trigger a time-periodic $C^{1}$ solution. To achieve this aim, we use a technically constructed iteration scheme and give the sufficient conditions to guarantee the existence, uniqueness and stability of the $C^{1}$ time-periodic solutions on the perturbation of a subsonic Fanno flow.~It is worthy to be pointed out that the entropy exhibits large amplitude under the assumption that the inflow sound speed is small.~However, it is crucial to assume that the boundary conditions possess a kind of dissipative structure at least on one side, which is used to cancel the nonlinear accelerating effect in the system.~The results indicate that the time-periodic feedback boundary control with dissipation can stabilize the nonisentropic compressible Euler equations around the Fanno flows.

Exploring Shape Embedding for Cloth-Changing Person Re-Identification via 2D-3D Correspondences

Cloth-Changing Person Re-Identification (CC-ReID) is a common and realistic problem since fashion constantly changes over time and people's aesthetic preferences are not set in stone. While most existing cloth-changing ReID methods focus on learning cloth-agnostic identity representations from coarse semantic cues (e.g. silhouettes and part segmentation maps), they neglect the continuous shape distributions at the pixel level. In this paper, we propose Continuous Surface Correspondence Learning (CSCL), a new shape embedding paradigm for cloth-changing ReID. CSCL establishes continuous correspondences between a 2D image plane and a canonical 3D body surface via pixel-to-vertex classification, which naturally aligns a person image to the surface of a 3D human model and simultaneously obtains pixel-wise surface embeddings. We further extract fine-grained shape features from the learned surface embeddings and then integrate them with global RGB features via a carefully designed cross-modality fusion module. The shape embedding paradigm based on 2D-3D correspondences remarkably enhances the model's global understanding of human body shape. To promote the study of ReID under clothing change, we construct 3D Dense Persons (DP3D), which is the first large-scale cloth-changing ReID dataset that provides densely annotated 2D-3D correspondences and a precise 3D mesh for each person image, while containing diverse cloth-changing cases over all four seasons. Experiments on both cloth-changing and cloth-consistent ReID benchmarks validate the effectiveness of our method.

Temporal periodic solutions to nonhomogeneous quasilinear hyperbolic equations driven by time-periodic boundary conditions

We consider the temporal periodic solutions to general nonhomogeneous quasilinear hyperbolic equations with a kind of weak diagonal dominant structure. Under the temporal periodic boundary conditions, the existence, stability and uniqueness of the time-periodic classical solutions are obtained. Moreover, the W2, regularity and stability around the time-periodic solutions are discussed. Our results reveal that the feedback boundary control with dissipative structure can stabilize the K-weakly diagonally dominant nonhomogeneous quasilinear hyperbolic system around the temporal periodic solution.

CMVAE: Causal Meta VAE for Unsupervised Meta-Learning

Unsupervised meta-learning aims to learn the meta knowledge from unlabeled data and rapidly adapt to novel tasks. However, existing approaches may be misled by the context-bias (e.g. background) from the training data. In this paper, we abstract the unsupervised meta-learning problem into a Structural Causal Model (SCM) and point out that such bias arises due to hidden confounders. To eliminate the confounders, we define the priors are \textit{conditionally} independent, learn the relationships between priors and intervene on them with casual factorization. Furthermore, we propose Causal Meta VAE (CMVAE) that encodes the priors into latent codes in the causal space and learns their relationships simultaneously to achieve the downstream few-shot image classification task. Results on toy datasets and three benchmark datasets demonstrate that our method can remove the context-bias and it outperforms other state-of-the-art unsupervised meta-learning algorithms because of bias-removal. Subsonic time-periodic solution to compressible Euler equations with damping in a bounded domain

In this paper, we consider the one-dimensional isentropic compressible Euler equations with linear damping $\beta(t,x)\rho u$ in a bounded domain, which can be used to describe the process of compressible flows through a porous medium.~And the model is imposed a dissipative subsonic time-periodic boundary condition.~Our main results reveal that the time-periodic boundary can trigger a unique subsonic time-periodic smooth solution which is stable under small perturbations on initial data. Moreover, the time-periodic solution possesses higher regularity and stability provided a higher regular boundary condition.

GAAF: Searching Activation Functions for Binary Neural Networks through Genetic Algorithm

Binary neural networks (BNNs) show promising utilization in cost and power-restricted domains such as edge devices and mobile systems. This is due to its significantly less computation and storage demand, but at the cost of degraded performance. To close the accuracy gap, in this paper we propose to add a complementary activation function (AF) ahead of the sign based binarization, and rely on the genetic algorithm (GA) to automatically search for the ideal AFs. These AFs can help extract extra information from the input data in the forward pass, while allowing improved gradient approximation in the backward pass. Fifteen novel AFs are identified through our GA-based search, while most of them show improved performance (up to 2.54% on ImageNet) when testing on different datasets and network models. Our method offers a novel approach for designing general and application-specific BNN architecture. Our code is available at http://github.com/flying-Yan/GAAF.

Searching Similarity Measure for Binarized Neural Networks

Being a promising model to be deployed in resource-limited devices, Binarized Neural Networks (BNNs) have drawn extensive attention from both academic and industry. However, comparing to the full-precision deep neural networks (DNNs), BNNs suffer from non-trivial accuracy degradation, limiting its applicability in various domains. This is partially because existing network components, such as the similarity measure, are specially designed for DNNs, and might be sub-optimal for BNNs. In this work, we focus on the key component of BNNs -- the similarity measure, which quantifies the distance between input feature maps and filters, and propose an automatic searching method, based on genetic algorithm, for BNN-tailored similarity measure. Evaluation results on Cifar10 and Cifar100 using ResNet, NIN and VGG show that most of the identified similarty measure can achieve considerable accuracy improvement (up to 3.39%) over the commonly-used cross-correlation approach.

Global existence and stability of subsonic time-periodic solution to the damped compressible Euler equations in a bounded domain

In this paper, we consider the one-dimensional isentropic compressible Euler equations with source term $\beta(t,x)\rho|u|^{\alpha}u$ in a bounded domain, which can be used to describe gas transmission in a nozzle.~The model is imposed a subsonic time-periodic boundary condition.~Our main results reveal that the time-periodic boundary can trigger an unique subsonic time-periodic smooth solution and this unique periodic solution is stable under small perturbations on initial and boundary data.~To get the existence of subsonic time-periodic solution, we use the linear iterative skill and transfer the boundary value problem into two initial value ones by using the hyperbolic property of the system. Then the corresponding linearized system can be decoupled.~The uniqueness is a direct by-product of the stability. There is no small assumptions on the damping coefficient.
