Development of a thin-target hard X-ray bremsstrahlung detection system to study confined runaway electrons in Aditya-U Tokamak

A specially shielded CdTe detector based hard X-ray (HXR) monitoring system equipped with a lead collimator has been developed and installed on the Aditya-U tokamak to investigate the dynamics of fast electrons (~20-200 keV) generated during sawtooth activity. The pre-existing HXR monitor in Aditya-U is exposed to the entire HXR bremsstrahlung emission from the plasma volume, peripheral limiters, and other structural components, which limits its ability to separately study the dynamics of lost and confined runaway electrons (REs). In contrast, the newly developed diagnostic has successfully measured the chord-averaged thin-target HXR bremsstrahlung emission encompassing the core plasma region, particularly within and around the sawtooth inversion radius. The measured HXR spectra are validated through forward modelling code that incorporates plasma parameters, confined RE characteristics, and the geometric configuration of the diagnostic system. The results confirm the capability of the developed HXR monitor to probe the fast-electron dynamics during internal plasma instabilities.

First Nuclear Ultra-Heavy Dark Matter Search in Argon Time Projection Chambers with the DarkSide-50 Experiment

We report the first search for nuclear ultra-heavy dark matter (UHDM) in a dual-phase liquid argon time projection chamber using the DarkSide-50 experiment. Unlike conventional weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs), nuclear UHDM candidates may be composed of many dark nucleons and scatter numerous times while passing through the detector. Accounting for energy loss through the Earth's overburden, we apply selection criteria optimized for multi-scatter event topologies using the 532-day low-radiation campaign of the DarkSide-50 detector. Excluded limits on the UHDM-nucleon scattering cross section for dark nucleon masses of $m_\chi = 10, 50, 100, 500 \, \mathrm{GeV/c^2}$ are presented.

Effect of LH and ECR waves on plasma parameters in ADITYA Upgrade tokamak

The plasma discharges in ADITYA Upgrade Tokamak are produced by means of transformer action, in which Ohmically created plasma is driven by means of a secondary loop voltage. Due to reduction of plasma resistivity after a certain level of plasma temperature, Ohmic heating becomes poor and further achievement of temperature needs other heating techniques. ADITYA-U tokamak is facilitated with a 42 GHz-500 kW Electron Cyclotron Resonant Heating (ECRH) system. Also, there is a Lower Hybrid Current Drive (LHCD) system installed and operated at 3.7 GHz for driving non-inductive plasma current followed by the Ohmic current drive. Though an eventual impact in the rise of plasma temperature and plasma current due to the application of ECRH and LHCD respectively are very obvious, their energy coupling with the plasma results in several interesting outcomes in a number of experimentally measured plasma parameters. The present work addresses such impactful observations that are noticed and reported for the first time in ADITYA-U Tokamak.

Snowmass 2021 White Paper on Upgrading SuperKEKB with a Polarized Electron Beam: Discovery Potential and Proposed Implementation

Upgrading the SuperKEKB electron-positron collider with polarized electron beams opens a new program of precision physics at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. This white paper describes the physics potential of this `Chiral Belle' program. It includes projections for precision measurements of $\sin^2\theta_W$ that can be obtained from independent left-right asymmetry measurements of $e^+e^-$ transitions to pairs of electrons, muons, taus, charm and b-quarks. The $\sin^2\theta_W$ precision obtainable at SuperKEKB will match that of the LEP/SLC world average, but at the centre-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. Measurements of the couplings for muons, charm, and $b$-quarks will be substantially improved and the existing $3\sigma$ discrepancy between the SLC $A_{LR}$ and LEP $A_{FB}^b$ measurements will be addressed. Precision measurements of neutral current universality will be more than an order of magnitude more precise than currently available. As the energy scale is well away from the $Z^0$-pole, the precision measurements will have sensitivity to the presence of a parity-violating dark sector gauge boson, $Z_{\rm dark}$. The program also enables the measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment $g-2$ form factor of the $\tau$ to be made at an unprecedented level of precision. A precision of $10^{-5}$ level is accessible with 40~ab$^{-1}$ and with more data it would start to approach the $10^{-6}$ level. This technique would provide the most precise information from the third generation about potential new physics explanations of the muon $g-2$ $4\sigma$ anomaly. Additional $\tau$ and QCD physics programs enabled or enhanced with having polarized electron beams are also discussed in this White Paper. This paper includes a summary of the path forward in R&D and next steps required to implement this upgrade and access its exciting discovery potential.

Belle II Executive Summary

Belle II is a Super $B$ Factory experiment, expected to record 50 ab$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collisions at the SuperKEKB accelerator until 2035. The large samples of $B$ mesons, charm hadrons, and tau leptons produced in the clean experimental environment of $e^+e^-$ collisions will provide the basis of a broad and unique flavor-physics program. Belle II will pursue physics beyond the Standard Model in many ways, for example: improving the precision of weak interaction parameters, particularly Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix elements and phases, and thus more rigorously test the CKM paradigm, measuring lepton-flavor-violating parameters, and performing unique searches for missing-mass dark matter events. Many key measurements will be made with world-leading precision.

A study of anisotropic compact star with MIT bag EoS in f(R,T) modified theory

In the current study, we investigated a specific model of anisotropic strange stars specially Her X-1, in the background of modified f(R,T) gravity by choosing f(R,T) = R+2{\xi}T, where R is Ricci scalar, T is the trace of the energy-momentum tensor and {\xi} is a coupling constant. To obtained the solution for the modified field equations, we apply Buchdahl metric to our equations. We consider the case, when the matter is governed by MIT bag model equation of state as Pr =1/3({\rho} -4B), where B is bag constant. We calculate the values of unknown parameters using Schwarzschild interior space-time followed by choosing the appropriate values of parameter {\xi} , K, {\beta} and also tabulated different values of bag constant for different {\xi} . We examine the physical validity of our model by performing tests such as energy conditions, equilibrium of the forces, the adiabatic index, redshift and some more. The observational results showed that the proposed f(R,T) model satisfies all these tests and are quite acceptable.

Total Controllability of nonlocal semilinear functional evolution equations with non-instantaneous impulses

In this article, we are discussing a more vital concept of controllability, termed total controllability. We have considered a nonlocal semilinear functional evolution equations with non-instantaneous impulses and finite delay in Hilbert spaces. A set of sufficient conditions of total controllability is obtained for the evolution system under consideration, by imposing the theory of C_0-semigroup and Banach fixed point theorem. We also established the total controllability results for a functional integro-differential equation. Finally, an example is given to demonstrate the feasibility of derived abstract results.

$B$-flavor tagging at Belle II

We report on new flavor tagging algorithms developed to determine the quark-flavor content of bottom ($B$) mesons at Belle II. The algorithms provide essential inputs for measurements of quark-flavor mixing and charge-parity violation. We validate and evaluate the performance of the algorithms using hadronic $B$ decays with flavor-specific final states reconstructed in a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $62.8$ fb$^{-1}$, collected at the $\Upsilon$(4$S$) resonance with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. We measure the total effective tagging efficiency to be $\varepsilon_{\rm eff} = \big(30.0 \pm 1.2(\text{stat}) \pm 0.4(\text{syst})\big)\%$ for a category-based algorithm and $\varepsilon_{\rm eff} = \big(28.8 \pm 1.2(\text{stat}) \pm 0.4(\text{syst})\big)\%$ for a deep-learning-based algorithm.

A generalized buchdahl model for compact stars in f (R;T) gravity

In this paper, we study the stellar structure in terms of alternative theory of gravity specially by f (R;T) gravity theory. Here, we consider the function f (R;T) = R+2VT where R is the Ricci scalar, T is the stress-energy momentum and V is the coupling constant. Using it we developed a stellar model that briefly explains the isotropic matter distribution within the compact object filled with perfect fluid. The stability of the model is shown by several physical and stability conditions. With the accecptibility of our theory, we were able to collect data for compact stars like PSR-B0943+10, CEN X-3, SMC X-4, Her X-1 and 4U1538-52 with great accuracy.

Anisotropic Compact stars in the Buchdahl model: A comprehensive study

In this article, we present a class of relativistic solutions describing spherically symmetric and static anisotropic stars in hydrostatic equilibrium. For this purpose, we consider a particularized matric potential, namely, Buchdahl ansatz [Phys. Rev. D \textbf{116}, 1027 (1959).] which encompasses almost all the known analytic solutions to the spherically symmetric, static Einstein field equations(EFEs) with a perfect fluid source, including in particular the Vaidya-Tikekar and Finch-Skea. We here developed the model by considering an anisotropic spherically symmetric static general relativistic configuration that plays a significant effect on the structure and properties of stellar objects. We have considered eight different cases for generalized Buchdahl dimensionless parameter $K$, and analyzed them in a uniform manner. As a result, it turns out that all the considered cases are valid at every point in the interior spacetime. In addition to this, we show that the model satisfies all the energy conditions and maintains the hydrostatic equilibrium equation. In the framework of the anisotropic hypothesis, we consider analogue objects with similar mass and radii such as LMC X-4, SMC X-1, EXO 1785-248 \emph{etc} to restrict the model parameter arbitrariness. Also, establishing a relation between pressure and density in the form of $P = P (\rho)$, we demonstrate that EoSs can be approximated to a linear function of density. Despite the simplicity of this model, the obtained results are satisfactory.

Relativistic charged spheres: Compact stars, compactness and stable configurations

This paper aims to explore a class of static stellar equilibrium configuration of relativistic charged spheres made of a charged perfect fluid. Solving the Einstein-Maxwell field equations, we consider a particularized metric potential, Buchdahl ansatz [ Phys. Rev.116, 1027 (1959)] and then by using a simple transformation. The study is developed by matching the interior region with Riessner-Nordstr$\dot{\text{o}}$m metric as an exterior solution. The matter content the charged sphere satisfies all the energy conditions and hydrostatic equilibrium equation, i.e. the modified Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff (TOV) equation for the charged case is maintained. In addition to this, we also discuss some important properties of the charged sphere such as total electric charge, mass-radius relation, surface redshift, and the speed of sound are analyzed. Obtained solutions are presented by the graphical representation that provides strong evidence for a more realistic and viable stellar structure. Obtained results are compared with analogue objects with similar mass and radii, such as SAX J1808.4-3658, 4U 1538-52, PSR J1903+327, Vela X-1, and 4U1608-52. It is also noted that the Buchdahl ansatz for a given transformation provides a physically viable solution only for the charged case when $0 < K < 1$, where density and pressure are maximum at the center and monotonically decreasing towards the boundary. Obtained results are also quite important both from theoretical and astrophysical scale to analyze other compact objects such as white dwarfs, neutron stars, boson stars, and quark stars.

On the derivation of the magnetocaloric properties in ferrimagnetic spinel Mn3O4

Large magnetocaloric effect has been observed in Mn3O4 around its ferrimagnetic transition at TN = 42.75 K. Field-induced isothermal entropy changes (\DeltaS) were derived from both magnetic and calorimetric techniques. The maximum |\DeltaS| and adiabatic temperature change ({\Delta}Tad) at TN are 11 J kg-1 K-1 and 1.9 K, respectively, for a magnetic field change of 20 kOe. Moreover, it is found that the complex magnetic phase transitions taking place below TN produce additional -but smaller- features on \DeltaS(T).

Raiders of the Lost AdS

We demonstrate that under certain conditions a theory of conformal quantum mechanics will exhibit the symmetries of two half-Virasoro algebras. We further demonstrate the conditions under which these algebras combine to form a single Virasoro algebra, and comment on the connection between this result and the AdS/CFT correspondence.

Conformal Mechanics and the Virasoro Algebra

We demonstrate that any scale-invariant mechanics of one variable exhibits not only 0+1 conformal symmetry, but also the symmetries of a full Virasoro algebra. We discuss the implications for the adS/CFT correspondence.

Conformal Theory of M2, D3, M5 and `D1+D5' Branes

The bosonic actions for M2, D3 and M5 branes in their own d-dimensional near-horizon background are given in a manifestly SO(p+1,2) x SO(d-p-1) invariant form (p=2,3,5). These symmetries result from a breakdown of ISO(d,2) (with d=10 for D3 and d=11 for M2 and M5) symmetry by the Wess-Zumino term and constraints. The new brane actions, reduce after gauge-fixing and solving constraints to (p+1) dimensional interacting field theories with a non-linearly realized SO(p+1,2) conformal invariance. We also present an interacting two-dimensional conformal field theory on a D-string in the near-horizon geometry of a D1+D5 configuration.

Special Conformal Symmetry of Worldvolume Actions

Kappa-symmetric worldvolume actions of the D3-, M5- and M2-branes can be coupled consistently to their near horizon bosonic geometry background. We study the gauge-fixed action in the approximation in which only the transverse radial direction of the brane is allowed to fluctuate. The generalized special conformal symmetry of these self-interacting actions is established. This opens up a possibility to find out if the full superconformal symmetry of the free actions of these branes survives in the presence of coupling defined by the size of the anti-deSitter throat.
