Best possible bounds on the double-diversity of intersecting hypergraphs

For a family $\mathcal{F}\subset \binom{[n]}{k}$ and two elements $x,y\in [n]$ define $\mathcal{F}(\bar{x},\bar{y})=\{F\in \mathcal{F}\colon x\notin F,\ y\notin F\}$. The double-diversity $γ_2(\mathcal{F})$ is defined as the minimum of $|\mathcal{F}(\bar{x},\bar{y})|$ over all pairs $x,y$. Let $\mathcal{L}\subset\binom{[7]}{3}$ consist of the seven lines of the Fano plane. For $n\geq 7$, $k\geq 3$ one defines the Fano $k$-graph $\mathcal{F}_{\mathcal{L}}$ as the collection of all $k$-subsets of $[n]$ that contain at least one line. It is proven that for $n\geq 13k^2$ the Fano $k$-graph is the essentially unique family maximizing the double diversity over all $k$-graphs without a pair of disjoint edges. Some similar, although less exact results are proven for triple and higher diversity as well.

Unconventional Self-Similar Hofstadter Superconductivity from Repulsive Interactions

Fractal Hofstadter bands have become widely accessible with the advent of moiré superlattices, opening the door to studies of the effect of interactions in these systems. In this work we employ a renormalization group (RG) analysis to demonstrate that the combination of repulsive interactions with the presence of a tunable manifold of Van Hove singularities provides a new mechanism for driving unconventional superconductivity in Hofstadter bands. Specifically, the number of Van Hove singularities at the Fermi energy can be controlled by varying the flux per unit cell and the electronic filling, leading to instabilities toward nodal superconductivity and chiral topological superconductivity with Chern number $\mathcal{C} = \pm 6$. The latter is characterized by a self-similar fixed trajectory of the RG flow and an emerging self-similarity symmetry of the order parameter. Our results establish Hofstadter quantum materials such as moiré heterostructures as promising platforms for realizing novel reentrant Hofstadter superconductors.

Simultaneously sorting vector vortex beams of 120 modes

Polarization (P), angular index (l), and radius index (p) are three independent degrees of freedom (DoFs) of vector vortex beams, which have been widely used in optical communications, quantum optics, information processing, etc. Although the sorting of one DoF can be achieved efficiently, it is still a great challenge to sort all these DoFs simultaneously in a compact and efficient way. Here, we propose a beam sorter to deal with all these three DoFs simultaneously by using a diffractive deep neural network (D$^2$NN) and experimentally demonstrated the robust sorting of 120 Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) modes using a compact D$^2$NN formed by one spatial light modulator and one mirror only. The proposed beam sorter demonstrates the great potential of D$^2$NN in optical field manipulation and will benefit the diverse applications of vector vortex beams.

COLA: Improving Conversational Recommender Systems by Collaborative Augmentation

Conversational recommender systems (CRS) aim to employ natural language conversations to suggest suitable products to users. Understanding user preferences for prospective items and learning efficient item representations are crucial for CRS. Despite various attempts, earlier studies mostly learned item representations based on individual conversations, ignoring item popularity embodied among all others. Besides, they still need support in efficiently capturing user preferences since the information reflected in a single conversation is limited. Inspired by collaborative filtering, we propose a collaborative augmentation (COLA) method to simultaneously improve both item representation learning and user preference modeling to address these issues. We construct an interactive user-item graph from all conversations, which augments item representations with user-aware information, i.e., item popularity. To improve user preference modeling, we retrieve similar conversations from the training corpus, where the involved items and attributes that reflect the user's potential interests are used to augment the user representation through gate control. Extensive experiments on two benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. Our code and data are available at https://github.com/DongdingLin/COLA.

Complete two-loop QCD amplitudes for $tW$ production at hadron colliders

We calculate the complete two-loop QCD amplitudes for hadronic $tW$ production by combining analytical and numerical techniques. The amplitudes have been first reduced to master integrals of eight planar and seven non-planar families, which can contain at most four massive propagators. Then a rational transformation of the master integrals is found to obtain a good basis so that the dimensional parameter decouples from the kinematic variables in the denominators of reduction coefficients. The master integrals are computed by solving their differential equations numerically. We find that the finite part of the two-loop squared amplitude is stable in the bulk of the phase space. After phase space integration and convolution with the parton distributions, it increases the LO cross section by about $3\%$.

WAIR-D: Wireless AI Research Dataset

It is a common sense that datasets with high-quality data samples play an important role in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and related studies. However, although AI/ML has been introduced in wireless researches long time ago, few datasets are commonly used in the research community. Without a common dataset, AI-based methods proposed for wireless systems are hard to compare with both the traditional baselines and even each other. The existing wireless AI researches usually rely on datasets generated based on statistical models or ray-tracing simulations with limited environments. The statistical data hinder the trained AI models from further fine-tuning for a specific scenario, and ray-tracing data with limited environments lower down the generalization capability of the trained AI models. In this paper, we present the Wireless AI Research Dataset (WAIR-D)1, which consists of two scenarios. Scenario 1 contains 10,000 environments with sparsely dropped user equipments (UEs), and Scenario 2 contains 100 environments with densely dropped UEs. The environments are randomly picked up from more than 40 cities in the real world map. The large volume of the data guarantees that the trained AI models enjoy good generalization capability, while fine-tuning can be easily carried out on a specific chosen environment. Moreover, both the wireless channels and the corresponding environmental information are provided in WAIR-D, so that extra-information-aided communication mechanism can be designed and evaluated. WAIR-D provides the researchers benchmarks to compare their different designs or reproduce results of others. In this paper, we show the detailed construction of this dataset and examples of using it.

Anisotropic gap structure and sign reversal symmetry in monolayer Fe(Se,Te)

The iron-based superconductors are an ideal platform to reveal the enigma of the unconventional superconductivity and potential topological superconductivity. Among them, the monolayer Fe(Se,Te)/SrTiO3(001), which is proposed to be topological nontrivial, shows interface-enhanced high-temperature superconductivity in the two dimensional limit. However, the experimental studies on the superconducting pairing mechanism of monolayer Fe(Se,Te) films are still limited. Here, by measuring quasiparticle interference in monolayer Fe(Se,Te)/SrTiO3(001), we report the observation of the anisotropic structure of the large superconducting gap and the sign change of the superconducting gap on different electron pockets. The results are well consistent with the 'bonding-antibonding' s+- wave pairing symmetry driven by spin fluctuations in conjunction with spin-orbit coupling. Our work is of basic significance not only for a unified superconducting formalism in the iron-based superconductors, but also for understanding of topological superconductivity in high-temperature superconductors.

Anomalous magneto-thermoelectric behavior in massive Dirac materials

Extensive studies of electron transport in Dirac materials have shown positive magneto-resistance (MR) and positive magneto-thermopower (MTP) in a magnetic field perpendicular to the excitation current or thermal gradient. In contrast, measurements of electron transport often show a negative longitudinal MR and negative MTP for a magnetic field oriented along the excitation current or thermal gradient; this is attributed to the chiral anomaly in Dirac materials. Here, we report a very different magneto-thermoelectric transport behavior in the massive Dirac material ZrTe5. Although thin flakes show a commonly observed positive MR in a perpendicular magnetic field, distinct from other Dirac materials, we observe a sharp negative MTP. In a parallel magnetic field, we still observe a negative longitudinal MR, however, a remarkable positive MTP is observed for the fields parallel to the thermal gradients. Our theoretical calculations suggest that this anomalous magneto-thermoelectric behavior can be attributed to the screened Coulomb scattering. This work demonstrates the significance of impurity scattering in the electron transport of topological materials and provides deep insight into the novel magneto-transport phenomena in Dirac materials.

Existence of solutions to a perturbed critical biharmonic equation with Hardy potential

\ In this paper, the following biharmonic elliptic problem \begin{eqnarray*} \begin{cases} Δ^2u-λ\frac{|u|^{q-2}u}{|x|^s}=|u|^{2^{**}-2}u+ f(x,u), &x\inΩ,\\ u=\dfrac{\partial u}{\partial n}=0, &x\in\partialΩ\end{cases} \end{eqnarray*} is considered. The main feature of the equation is that it involves a Hardy term and a nonlinearity with critical Sobolev exponent. By combining a careful analysis of the fibering maps of the energy functional associated with the problem with the Mountain Pass Lemma, it is shown, for some positive parameter $λ$ depending on $s$ and $q$, that the problem admits at least one mountain pass type solution under appropriate growth conditions on the nonlinearity $f(x,u)$.

The growth of the number of periodic orbits for annulus homeomorphisms and non-contractible closed geodesics on Riemannian or Finsler $\mathbb{R}P^2$

In this article, we give a growth rate about the number of periodic orbits in the Franks type theorem obtained by the authors \cite{LWY}. As applications, we prove the following two results: there exist infinitely many distinct non-contractible closed geodesics on $\mathbb{R}P^2$ endowed with a Riemannian metric such that its Gaussian curvature is positive, moreover, the number of non-contractible closed geodesics of length $\leq l$ grows at least like $l^2$; and there exist either two or infinitely many distinct non-contractible closed geodesics on Finsler $\mathbb{R}P^2$ with reversibility $λ$ and flag curvature $K$ satisfying $\left(\fracλ{1+λ}\right)^2<K\le 1$, furthermore, if the second case happens, then the number of non-contractible closed geodesics of length $\leq l$ grows at least like $l^2$.

Attention-based Class Activation Diffusion for Weakly-Supervised Semantic Segmentation

Extracting class activation maps (CAM) is a key step for weakly-supervised semantic segmentation (WSSS). The CAM of convolution neural networks fails to capture long-range feature dependency on the image and result in the coverage on only foreground object parts, i.e., a lot of false negatives. An intuitive solution is ``coupling'' the CAM with the long-range attention matrix of visual transformers (ViT) We find that the direct ``coupling'', e.g., pixel-wise multiplication of attention and activation, achieves a more global coverage (on the foreground), but unfortunately goes with a great increase of false positives, i.e., background pixels are mistakenly included. This paper aims to tackle this issue. It proposes a new method to couple CAM and Attention matrix in a probabilistic Diffusion way, and dub it AD-CAM. Intuitively, it integrates ViT attention and CAM activation in a conservative and convincing way. Conservative is achieved by refining the attention between a pair of pixels based on their respective attentions to common neighbors, where the intuition is two pixels having very different neighborhoods are rarely dependent, i.e., their attention should be reduced. Convincing is achieved by diffusing a pixel's activation to its neighbors (on the CAM) in proportion to the corresponding attentions (on the AM). In experiments, our results on two challenging WSSS benchmarks PASCAL VOC and MS~COCO show that AD-CAM as pseudo labels can yield stronger WSSS models than the state-of-the-art variants of CAM.

The activated scaling behavior of quantum Griffiths singularity in two-dimensional superconductors

Quantum Griffiths singularity is characterized by the divergence of the dynamical critical exponent with the activated scaling law and has been widely observed in various two-dimensional superconductors. Recently, the direct activated scaling analysis with the irrelevant correction has been proposed and successfully used to analyze the experimental data of crystalline PdTe2 and polycrystalline \b{eta}-W films, which provides new evidence of quantum Griffiths singularity. Here we show that the direct activated scaling analysis is applicable to the experimental data in different superconducting films, including tri-layer Ga films and LaAlO3/SrTiO3 interface superconductor. When taking the irrelevant correction into account, we calculate the corrected sheet resistance at ultralow temperatures. The scaling behavior of the corrected resistance in a comparably large temperature regime and the theoretical fitting of the phase boundary give unambiguous evidence of quantum Griffiths singularity. Compared to the previous method based on the finite size scaling, the direct activated scaling analysis represents a more direct and precise way to analyze the experimental data of quantum Griffiths singularity in diverse two-dimensional superconductors.

CAE v2: Context Autoencoder with CLIP Target

Masked image modeling (MIM) learns visual representation by masking and reconstructing image patches. Applying the reconstruction supervision on the CLIP representation has been proven effective for MIM. However, it is still under-explored how CLIP supervision in MIM influences performance. To investigate strategies for refining the CLIP-targeted MIM, we study two critical elements in MIM, i.e., the supervision position and the mask ratio, and reveal two interesting perspectives, relying on our developed simple pipeline, context autodecoder with CLIP target (CAE v2). Firstly, we observe that the supervision on visible patches achieves remarkable performance, even better than that on masked patches, where the latter is the standard format in the existing MIM methods. Secondly, the optimal mask ratio positively correlates to the model size. That is to say, the smaller the model, the lower the mask ratio needs to be. Driven by these two discoveries, our simple and concise approach CAE v2 achieves superior performance on a series of downstream tasks. For example, a vanilla ViT-Large model achieves 81.7% and 86.7% top-1 accuracy on linear probing and fine-tuning on ImageNet-1K, and 55.9% mIoU on semantic segmentation on ADE20K with the pre-training for 300 epochs. We hope our findings can be helpful guidelines for the pre-training in the MIM area, especially for the small-scale models.

A Product Version of the Hilton-Milner-Frankl Theorem

Two families $\mathcal{F},\mathcal{G}$ of $k$-subsets of $\{1,2,\ldots,n\}$ are called non-trivial cross $t$-intersecting if $|F\cap G|\geq t$ for all $F\in \mathcal{F}, G\in \mathcal{G}$ and $|\cap \{F\colon F\in \mathcal{F}\}|<t$, $|\cap \{G\colon G\in\mathcal{G}\}|<t$. In the present paper, we determine the maximum product of the sizes of two non-trivial cross $t$-intersecting families of $k$-subsets of $\{1,2,\ldots,n\}$ for $n\geq 4(t+2)^2k^2$, $k\geq 5$, which is a product version of the Hilton-Milner-Frankl Theorem.

Point Cloud Change Detection With Stereo V-SLAM:Dataset, Metrics and Baseline

Localization and navigation are basic robotic tasks requiring an accurate and up-to-date map to finish these tasks, with crowdsourced data to detect map changes posing an appealing solution. Collecting and processing crowdsourced data requires low-cost sensors and algorithms, but existing methods rely on expensive sensors or computationally expensive algorithms. Additionally, there is no existing dataset to evaluate point cloud change detection. Thus, this paper proposes a novel framework using low-cost sensors like stereo cameras and IMU to detect changes in a point cloud map. Moreover, we create a dataset and the corresponding metrics to evaluate point cloud change detection with the help of the high-fidelity simulator Unreal Engine 4. Experiments show that our visualbased framework can effectively detect the changes in our dataset.

Rotational symmetry breaking in superconducting nickelate Nd0.8Sr0.2NiO2 films

The infinite-layer nickelates, isostructural to the high-Tc superconductor cuprates, have risen as a promising platform to host unconventional superconductivity and stimulated growing interests in the condensed matter community. Despite numerous researches, the superconducting pairing symmetry of the nickelate superconductors, the fundamental characteristic of a superconducting state, is still under debate. Moreover, the strong electronic correlation in the nickelates may give rise to a rich phase diagram, where the underlying interplay between the superconductivity and other emerging quantum states with broken symmetry is awaiting exploration. Here, we study the angular dependence of the transport properties on the infinite-layer nickelate Nd0.8Sr0.2NiO2 superconducting films with Corbino-disk configuration. The azimuthal angular dependence of the magnetoresistance (R(ϕ)) manifests the rotational symmetry breaking from isotropy to four-fold (C4) anisotropy with increasing magnetic field, revealing a symmetry breaking phase transition. Approaching the low temperature and large magnetic field regime, an additional two-fold (C2) symmetric component in the R(ϕ) curves and an anomalous upturn of the temperature-dependent critical field are observed simultaneously, suggesting the emergence of an exotic electronic phase. Our work uncovers the evolution of the quantum states with different rotational symmetries and provides deep insight into the global phase diagram of the nickelate superconductors.
