Applications of Game Theory in Vehicular Networks: A Survey

In the Internet of Things (IoT) era, vehicles and other intelligent components in an intelligent transportation system (ITS) are connected, forming Vehicular Networks (VNs) that provide efficient and secure traffic and ubiquitous access to various applications. However, as the number of nodes in ITS increases, it is challenging to satisfy a varied and large number of service requests with different Quality of Service and security requirements in highly dynamic VNs. Intelligent nodes in VNs can compete or cooperate for limited network resources to achieve either an individual or a group's objectives. Game Theory (GT), a theoretical framework designed for strategic interactions among rational decision-makers sharing scarce resources, can be used to model and analyze individual or group behaviors of communicating entities in VNs. This paper primarily surveys the recent developments of GT in solving various challenges of VNs. This survey starts with an introduction to the background of VNs. A review of GT models studied in the VNs is then introduced, including its basic concepts, classifications, and applicable vehicular issues. After discussing the requirements of VNs and the motivation of using GT, a comprehensive literature review on GT applications in dealing with the challenges of current VNs is provided. Furthermore, recent contributions of GT to VNs integrating with diverse emerging 5G technologies are surveyed. Finally, the lessons learned are given, and several key research challenges and possible solutions for applying GT in VNs are outlined.

Compression-Resistant Backdoor Attack against Deep Neural Networks

In recent years, many backdoor attacks based on training data poisoning have been proposed. However, in practice, those backdoor attacks are vulnerable to image compressions. When backdoor instances are compressed, the feature of specific backdoor trigger will be destroyed, which could result in the backdoor attack performance deteriorating. In this paper, we propose a compression-resistant backdoor attack based on feature consistency training. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first backdoor attack that is robust to image compressions. First, both backdoor images and their compressed versions are input into the deep neural network (DNN) for training. Then, the feature of each image is extracted by internal layers of the DNN. Next, the feature difference between backdoor images and their compressed versions are minimized. As a result, the DNN treats the feature of compressed images as the feature of backdoor images in feature space. After training, the backdoor attack against DNN is robust to image compression. Furthermore, we consider three different image compressions (i.e., JPEG, JPEG2000, WEBP) in feature consistency training, so that the backdoor attack is robust to multiple image compression algorithms. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed backdoor attack. When the backdoor instances are compressed, the attack success rate of common backdoor attack is lower than 10%, while the attack success rate of our compression-resistant backdoor is greater than 97%. The compression-resistant attack is still robust even when the backdoor images are compressed with low compression quality. In addition, extensive experiments have demonstrated that, our compression-resistant backdoor attack has the generalization ability to resist image compression which is not used in the training process.

Fast Graph Subset Selection Based on G-optimal Design

Graph sampling theory extends the traditional sampling theory to graphs with topological structures. As a key part of the graph sampling theory, subset selection chooses nodes on graphs as samples to reconstruct the original signal. Due to the eigen-decomposition operation for Laplacian matrices of graphs, however, existing subset selection methods usually require high-complexity calculations. In this paper, with an aim of enhancing the computational efficiency of subset selection on graphs, we propose a novel objective function based on the optimal experimental design. Theoretical analysis shows that this function enjoys an $α$-supermodular property with a provable lower bound on $α$. The objective function, together with an approximate of the low-pass filter on graphs, suggests a fast subset selection method that does not require any eigen-decomposition operation. Experimental results show that the proposed method exhibits high computational efficiency, while having competitive results compared to the state-of-the-art ones, especially when the sampling rate is low.

Giant dynamical electron-magnon coupling in metal-metal-ferromagnetic insulator heterostructure

Magnon-mediated spin transport across nonmagnetic metal (NM) and ferromagnetic insulator (FI) interface depends critically on electron-magnon coupling. We propose a novel route to enhance electron-magnon coupling dynamically from transport viewpoint. Using non-equilibrium Green's function a theoretical formalism for magnon-mediated spin current is developed. In the language of transport, the effective electron-magnon coupling at NM/FI interface is determined by self-energy of FI lead, which is proportional to density of states (DOS) at NM/FI interface due to nonlinear process of electron-magnon conversion. By modifying interfacial DOS, the spin conductance of 2D and 3D NM/FI systems can be increased by almost three orders of magnitude, setting up a new platform of manipulating dynamical electron-magnon coupling.

Analytic two-loop master integrals for $tW$ production at hadron colliders: I

We present the analytic calculation of two-loop master integrals that are relevant for $tW$ production at hadron colliders. We focus on the integral families with only one massive propagator. After choosing a canonical basis, the differential equations for the master integrals can be transformed into the $d$ln form. The boundaries are determined by simple direct integrations or regularity conditions at kinematic points without physical singularities. The analytical results in this work are expressed in terms of multiple polylogarithms, and have been checked with numerical computations.

3D Photo Stylization: Learning to Generate Stylized Novel Views from a Single Image

Visual content creation has spurred a soaring interest given its applications in mobile photography and AR / VR. Style transfer and single-image 3D photography as two representative tasks have so far evolved independently. In this paper, we make a connection between the two, and address the challenging task of 3D photo stylization - generating stylized novel views from a single image given an arbitrary style. Our key intuition is that style transfer and view synthesis have to be jointly modeled for this task. To this end, we propose a deep model that learns geometry-aware content features for stylization from a point cloud representation of the scene, resulting in high-quality stylized images that are consistent across views. Further, we introduce a novel training protocol to enable the learning using only 2D images. We demonstrate the superiority of our method via extensive qualitative and quantitative studies, and showcase key applications of our method in light of the growing demand for 3D content creation from 2D image assets.

MFNet: Multi-filter Directive Network for Weakly Supervised Salient Object Detection

Weakly supervised salient object detection (WSOD) targets to train a CNNs-based saliency network using only low-cost annotations. Existing WSOD methods take various techniques to pursue single "high-quality" pseudo label from low-cost annotations and then develop their saliency networks. Though these methods have achieved good performance, the generated single label is inevitably affected by adopted refinement algorithms and shows prejudiced characteristics which further influence the saliency networks. In this work, we introduce a new multiple-pseudo-label framework to integrate more comprehensive and accurate saliency cues from multiple labels, avoiding the aforementioned problem. Specifically, we propose a multi-filter directive network (MFNet) including a saliency network as well as multiple directive filters. The directive filter (DF) is designed to extract and filter more accurate saliency cues from the noisy pseudo labels. The multiple accurate cues from multiple DFs are then simultaneously propagated to the saliency network with a multi-guidance loss. Extensive experiments on five datasets over four metrics demonstrate that our method outperforms all the existing congeneric methods. Moreover, it is also worth noting that our framework is flexible enough to apply to existing methods and improve their performance.

Orbital-Selective High-Temperature Cooper Pairing Developed in the Two-Dimensional Limit

The orbital multiplicity in multiband superconductors yields orbital differentiation in normal-state properties, and can lead to orbital-selective spin-fluctuation Cooper pairing. This phenomenon has become increasingly pivotal in clarifying the pairing 'enigma' particularly for multiband high-temperature superconductors. In one-unit-cell (1-UC) FeSe/SrTiO3, the thinnest and highest-Tc member of iron-based superconductors, the standard electron-hole Fermi pocket nesting scenario is apparently not applicable since the Gamma-centered hole pockets are absent, so the actual pairing mechanism is the subject of intense debate. Here, by measuring high-resolution Bogoliubov quasiparticle interference, we report observations of highly anisotropic magnetic Cooper pairing in 1-UC FeSe. From a theoretical point of view, it is important to incorporate effects of electronic correlations within a spin-fluctuation pairing calculation, where the dxy orbital becomes coherence-suppressed. The resulting pairing gap is compatible with the experimental findings, which suggests that high-Tc Cooper pairing with orbital selectivity applies to 1-UC FeSe. Our findings imply the general existence of orbital selectivity in iron-based superconductors and the universal importance of electron correlations in high-Tc superconductors.

Spectroscopic evidence for electron correlations in the interface-modulated epitaxial bilayer graphene

Superlattice potentials are theoretically predicted to modify the single-particle electronic structures. The resulting Coulomb-interaction-dominated low-energy physics would generate highly novel many-body phenomena. Here, by in situ tunneling spectroscopy, we show the signatures of superstructure-modulated correlated electron states in epitaxial bilayer graphene (BLG) on 6H-SiC(0001). As the carrier density is locally quasi-'tuned' by the superlattice potentials of a 6x6 interface reconstruction phase, the spectral-weight transfer occurs between the two broad peaks flanking the charge-neutral point. Such detected non-rigid band shift beyond the single-particle band description implies the existence of correlation effects, probably attributed to the modified interlayer coupling in epitaxial BLG by the 6x6 reconstruction as in magic-angle BLG by the Moire potentials. Quantitative analysis suggests the intrinsic interface reconstruction shows a high carrier tunability of around 1/2 filling range, equivalent to the back gating by a voltage of around 70 V in a typical gated BLG/SiO2/Si device. The finding in interface-modulated epitaxial BLG with reconstruction phase extends the BLG platform with electron correlations beyond the magic-angle situation, and may stimulate further investigations on correlated states in graphene systems and other van der Waals materials.

WEM: A Node Importance Algorithm in Weighted Networks

In view of the node importance in weighted networks, weighted expected method (WEM), was proposed in this paper, which take an advantages of uncertain graph algorithm. First, a weight processing method is proposed based on the relationship between the weight of edges and the intensity of contact between nodes, and the calculation method of the contribution of the weight of edges to the node importance is defined, even if there are two converse situations in the reality. Then, because of the use of dynamic programming method, which reduces the complexity of computational time to a linear level, WEM will be more suitable for the calculation in large weighted networks. Owning to its features of calculating, WEM can, to the greatest extent, ensure a precise order of node essential scores for each node. The node connectivity experiment and SIR simulation experiment show that the WEM has higher accuracy and relatively low time complexity.

Relative Distributed Formation and Obstacle Avoidance with Multi-agent Reinforcement Learning

Multi-agent formation as well as obstacle avoidance is one of the most actively studied topics in the field of multi-agent systems. Although some classic controllers like model predictive control (MPC) and fuzzy control achieve a certain measure of success, most of them require precise global information which is not accessible in harsh environments. On the other hand, some reinforcement learning (RL) based approaches adopt the leader-follower structure to organize different agents' behaviors, which sacrifices the collaboration between agents thus suffering from bottlenecks in maneuverability and robustness. In this paper, we propose a distributed formation and obstacle avoidance method based on multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL). Agents in our system only utilize local and relative information to make decisions and control themselves distributively. Agent in the multi-agent system will reorganize themselves into a new topology quickly in case that any of them is disconnected. Our method achieves better performance regarding formation error, formation convergence rate and on-par success rate of obstacle avoidance compared with baselines (both classic control methods and another RL-based method). The feasibility of our method is verified by both simulation and hardware implementation with Ackermann-steering vehicles.

Image-Guided Navigation of a Robotic Ultrasound Probe for Autonomous Spinal Sonography Using a Shadow-aware Dual-Agent Framework

Ultrasound (US) imaging is commonly used to assist in the diagnosis and interventions of spine diseases, while the standardized US acquisitions performed by manually operating the probe require substantial experience and training of sonographers. In this work, we propose a novel dual-agent framework that integrates a reinforcement learning (RL) agent and a deep learning (DL) agent to jointly determine the movement of the US probe based on the real-time US images, in order to mimic the decision-making process of an expert sonographer to achieve autonomous standard view acquisitions in spinal sonography. Moreover, inspired by the nature of US propagation and the characteristics of the spinal anatomy, we introduce a view-specific acoustic shadow reward to utilize the shadow information to implicitly guide the navigation of the probe toward different standard views of the spine. Our method is validated in both quantitative and qualitative experiments in a simulation environment built with US data acquired from 17 volunteers. The average navigation accuracy toward different standard views achieves 5.18mm/5.25deg and 12.87mm/17.49deg in the intra- and inter-subject settings, respectively. The results demonstrate that our method can effectively interpret the US images and navigate the probe to acquire multiple standard views of the spine.

Theory of Hofstadter Superconductors

We study mean-field states resulting from the pairing of electrons in time-reversal broken fractal Hofstadter bands, which arise in two-dimensional lattices where the unit cell traps magnetic flux $Φ= (p/q)Φ_0$ comparable to the flux quantum $Φ_0 = h/e$. It is established that the dimension and degeneracy of the irreducible representations of the magnetic translation group (MTG) furnished by the charge 2e pairing fields have different properties from those furnished by single particle Bloch states, and in particular are shown to depend on the parity of the denominator $q$. We explore this symmetry analysis to formulate a Ginzburg-Landau theory describing the thermodynamic properties of Hofstadter superconductors at arbitrary rational flux $Φ= (p/q)Φ_0$ in terms of a multicomponent order parameter that describes the finite momentum pairing of electrons across different Fermi surface patches. This phenomenological theory leads to a rich phase diagram characterized by different symmetry breaking patterns of the MTG, which can be interpreted as distinct classes of vortex lattices. A class of $\mathbb{Z}_q$-symmetric Hofstadter SCs is identified, in which the MTG breaks down to a $\mathbb{Z}_q$ subgroup. We study the topological properties of such $\mathbb{Z}_q$-symmetric Hofstadter SCs and show that the parity of the Chern numbers is fixed by the parity of $q$. We identify the conditions for the realization of Bogoliubov Fermi surfaces in the presence of parity and MTG symmetries, establishing a novel topological invariant capturing the existence of such charge-neutral gapless excitations. Our findings, which could bear relevance to the description of re-entrant superconductivity in moiré systems in the Hofstadter regime, establish Hofstadter SC as a fertile setting to explore symmetry broken and topological orders.

Extremal Problem for Matchings and Rainbow Matchings on Direct Products

Let $n_1,\dots,n_\ell,k_1,\dots,k_\ell$ be integers and let $V_1,\dots,V_\ell$ be disjoint sets with $|V_i|=n_i$ for $i=1,\dots,\ell$. Define $\sqcup_{i=1}^\ell \binom{V_i}{k_i}$ as the collection of all subsets $F$ of $\cup_{i=1}^\ell V_i$ with $|F\cap V_i| =k_i$ for each $i=1,\dots,\ell$. In this paper, we show that if the matching number of $\mathcal{F}\subseteq \sqcup_{i=1}^\ell \binom{V_i}{k_i}$ is at most $s$ and $n_i\geq 4\ell^2 k_i^2s$ for all $i$, then $|\mathcal{F}| \leq \max_{1\leq i\leq \ell}[\binom{n_i}{k_i}-\binom{n_i-s}{k_i}]\prod_{j\neq i}\binom{n_j}{k_j}$. Let $\mathcal{F}_1,\mathcal{F}_2,\dots,\mathcal{F}_s\subseteq\sqcup_{i=1}^\ell \binom{V_i}{k_i}$ with $n_i\geq 8\ell^2k_i^2s$ for all $i$. We also prove that if $\mathcal{F}_1,\mathcal{F}_2,\dots,\mathcal{F}_s$ are rainbow matching free, then there exists $t$ in $[s]$ such that $|\mathcal{F}_t|\leq \max_{1\leq i\leq \ell}\left[\binom{n_i}{k_i}-\binom{n_i-s+1}{k_i}\right]\prod_{j\neq i}\binom{n_j}{k_j}.$

URIR: Recommendation algorithm of user RNN encoder and item encoder based on knowledge graph

Due to a large amount of information, it is difficult for users to find what they are interested in among the many choices. In order to improve users' experience, recommendation systems have been widely used in music recommendations, movie recommendations, online shopping, and other scenarios. Recently, Knowledge Graph (KG) has been proven to be an effective tool to improve the performance of recommendation systems. However, a huge challenge in applying knowledge graphs for recommendation is how to use knowledge graphs to obtain better user codes and item codes. In response to this problem, this research proposes a user Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) encoder and item encoder recommendation algorithm based on Knowledge Graph (URIR). This study encodes items by capturing high-level neighbor information to generate items' representation vectors and applies an RNN and items' representation vectors to encode users to generate users' representation vectors, and then perform inner product operation on users' representation vectors and items' representation vectors to get probabilities of users interaction with items. Numerical experiments on three real-world datasets demonstrate that URIR is superior performance to state-of-the-art algorithms in indicators such as AUC, Precision, Recall, and MRR. This implies that URIR can effectively use knowledge graph to obtain better user codes and item codes, thereby obtaining better recommendation results.

Equally Spaced Quantum States in van der Waals Epitaxy-Grown Nanoislands

Pursuing the confinement of linearly dispersive relativistic fermions is of interest in both fundamental physics and potential applications. Here, we report strong STM evidence for the equally spaced, strikingly sharp, and densely distributed quantum well states (QWSs) near Fermi energy in Pb(111) nanoislands, van-der-Waals epitaxially grown on graphitized 6H-SiC(0001). The observations can be explained as the quantized energies of confined linearly dispersive [111] electrons, which essentially 'simulate' the out-of-plane relativistic quasiparticles. The equally spaced QWSs with an origin of confined relativistic electrons are supported by phenomenological simulations and Fabry-Perot fittings based on the relativistic fermions. First-principles calculations further reveal that the spin-orbit coupling strengthens the relativistic nature of electrons near Fermi energy. Our finding uncovers the unique equally spaced quantum states in electronic systems beyond Landau levels, and may inspire future studies on confined relativistic quasiparticles in flourishing topological materials and applications in structurally simpler quantum cascade laser.

Scalar-Tensor theories within Asymptotic Safety

Asymptotic Safety provides an elegant mechanism for obtaining a consistent high-energy completion of gravity and gravity-matter systems. Following the initial idea by Steven Weinberg, the construction builds on an interacting fixed point of the theories renormalization group (RG) flow. In this work we use the Wetterich equation for the effective average action to investigate the RG flow of gravity supplemented by a real scalar field. We give a non-perturbative proof that the subspace of interactions respecting the global shift-symmetry of the scalar kinetic term is closed under RG transformations. Subsequently, we compute the beta functions in an approximation comprising the EinsteinHilbert action supplemented by the shift-symmetric quartic scalar self-interaction and the two lowest order shift-symmetric interactions coupling scalar-bilinears to the spacetime curvature. The computation utilizes the background field method with an arbitrary background, demonstrating that the results are manifestly background independent. Our beta functions exhibit an interacting fixed point suitable for Asymptotic Safety, where all matter interactions are non-vanishing. The presence of this fixed point is rooted in the interplay of the matter couplings which our work tracks for the first time. The relation of our findings with previous results in the literature is discussed in detail and we conclude with a brief outlook on potential phenomenological applications.
