Chaoticity parameter $λ$ in two-pion interferometry in an expanding boson gas model

We investigate the chaoticity parameter $λ$ in two-pion interferometry in an expanding boson gas model. The degree of Bose-Einstein condensation of identical pions, density distributions, and Hanbury-Brown-Twiss (HBT) correlation functions are calculated for the expanding gas within the mean-field description with a harmonic oscillator potential. The results indicate that a sources with thousands of identical pions may exhibit a degree of Bose-Einstein condensation at the temperatures during the hadronic phase in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. This finite condensation may decrease the chaoticity parameter $λ$ in the two-pion interferometry measurements at low pion pair momenta, but influence only slightly the $λ$ value at high pion pair momentum.

Identify the topological superconducting order in a multi-band quantum wire

How to distinguish the zero-bias peak (ZBP) caused by the Majorana fermions from that by the other effects remains a challenge in detecting the topological order of a quantum wire. In this paper we propose to distinguish the topological superconducting phase from the topologically trivial phase by making a Josephson junction of the quantum wire attached to a side lead and then measuring the tunneling conductance through it as the phase difference across the junction $ϕ$ varies. Even if the ZBPs exist in both phases, we can identify the topological superconducting phase by a conductance peak at $ϕ=π$ and a nearby butterfly pattern.

Topological Spin Texture in a Quantum Anomalous Hall Insulator

The quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) effect has been recently discovered in experiment using thin-film topological insulator with ferromagnetic ordering and strong spin-orbit coupling. Here we investigate the spin degree of freedom of a QAH insulator and uncover a fundamental phenomenon that the edge states exhibit topologically stable spin texture in the boundary when a chiral-like symmetry is present. This result shows that edge states are chiral in both the orbital and spin degrees of freedom, and the chiral edge spin texture corresponds to the bulk topological states of the QAH insulator. We also study the potential applications of the edge spin texture in designing topological-state-based spin devices which might be applicable to future spintronic technologies.

Effects of swift heavy ions irradiation parameters on optical properties of muscovite mica

Muscovite mica sheets with a thickness of 25 μm were irradiated by various kinds of swift heavy ions (Sn, Xe and Bi) in HIRFL. The fluences ranged from 1$\times$10^{10} ions/cm^2 to 8$\times$10^{11} ions/cm^2. The electronic energy loss (dE/dx)_e was increased from 14.7 keV/nm to 31.2 keV/nm. The band gap and Urbach energy of pristine and irradiated mica were analyzed by ultraviolet- visible spectroscopy. Periodic fringes in long wave length of the absorption spectra caused by interference phenomenon, were disturbed as the (dE/dx)_e increased. It was suggested that the chemical bonds between Tetrahedral-Octohedral-Tetrahedral (TOT) layers of mica were destroyed. Thus the smooth surface was cleaved after irradiation. The band gap was narrowed down with the increasing (dE/dx)_e and fluences. The values of Urbach energy were increased as the (dE/dx)_e and fluences gradually increased. It was indicated that the amount of defects and the proportion of amorphous structure were increased in mica irradiated under increased (dE/dx)_e and fluences. Fluences took a distinctly important role in optical properties of mica.

Quasi-periodic Solutions of a Derivative Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation

This paper is concerned with a one dimensional (1D) derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation with periodic boundary conditions \begin{equation*} \mi u_t+u_{xx}+\mi |u|^2u_x=0, \ \ x\in \mathbb{T}:=\mathbb{R}/2π\mathbb{Z}. \end{equation*} We show that above equation admits a family of real analytic quasi-periodic solutions with two Diophantine frequencies. The proof is based on a partial Birkhoff normal form and KAM method.

Defuzzify firstly or finally: Dose it matter in fuzzy DEMATEL under uncertain environment?

Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method is widely used in many real applications. With the desirable property of efficient handling with the uncertain information in decision making, the fuzzy DEMATEL is heavily studied. Recently, Dytczak and Ginda suggested to defuzzify the fuzzy numbers firstly and then use the classical DEMATEL to obtain the final result. In this short paper, we show that it is not reasonable in some situations. The results of defuzzification at the first step are not coincide with the results of defuzzification at the final step.It seems that the alternative is to defuzzification in the final step in fuzzy DEMATEL.

Combined field formulation and a simple stable explicit interface advancing scheme for fluid structure interaction

We develop a combined field formulation for the fluid structure (FS) interaction problem. The unknowns are (u;p;v), being the fluid velocity, fluid pressure and solid velocity. This combined field formulation uses Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) description for the fluid and Lagrangian description for the solid. It automatically enforces the simultaneous continuities of both velocity and traction along the FS interface. We present a first order in time fully discrete scheme when the flow is incompressible Navier-Stokes and when the solid is elastic. The interface position is determined by first order extrapolation so that the generation of the fluid mesh and the computation of (u;p;v) are decoupled. This explicit interface advancing enables us to save half of the unknowns comparing with traditional monolithic schemes. When the solid has convex strain energy (e.g. linear elastic), we prove that the total energy of the fluid and the solid at time t^{n} is bounded by the total energy at time t^{n-1}. Like in the continuous case, the fluid mesh velocity which is used in ALE description does not enter into the stability bound. Surprisingly, the nonlinear convection term in the Navier-Stokes equations plays a crucial role to stabilize the scheme and the stability result does not apply to Stokes flow. As the nonlinear convection term is treated semi-implicitly, in each time step, we only need to solve a linear system (and only once) which involves merely (u;p;v) if the solid is linear elastic. Two numerical tests including the benchmark test of Navier-Stokes flow past a Saint Venant-Kirchhoff elastic bar are performed. In addition to the stability, we also confirm the first order temporal accuracy of our explicit interface advancing scheme.

High flux symmetry of the Spherical Hohlraum with Octahedral 6LEHs at a Golden Hohlraum-to-capsule Radius ratio

In the present Letter, we investigate a spherical hohlraums with octahedral six laser entrance holes (LEHs) for inertial fusion, which has advantages over the conventional hohlraums of cylindrical geometry since it contains only one cone at each LEH and the problems caused by the beam overlap and crossed-beam energy transfer can be eliminated and the backscattering can be reduced. In particular, our study indicates that at a specific hohlraum-to-capsule radius ratio, i.e., the golden ratio, the flux asymmetry on capsule can be significantly reduced. From our study, this golden octahedral hohlraum has robust high symmetry, low plasma filling and low backscattering. Though the golden octahedral hohlraum needs $30\%$ more laser energy than traditional cylinder for producing the ignition radiation pulse of 300 eV, it is worth for a robust high symmetry and low backscattering. The proposed octahedral hohlraum is also flexible and can be applicable to diverse inertial fusion drive approaches. As an application, we design an ignition octahedral hohlraum for the hybrid drive.

A brief network analysis of Artificial Intelligence publication

In this paper, we present an illustration to the history of Artificial Intelligence(AI) with a statistical analysis of publish since 1940. We collected and mined through the IEEE publish data base to analysis the geological and chronological variance of the activeness of research in AI. The connections between different institutes are showed. The result shows that the leading community of AI research are mainly in the USA, China, the Europe and Japan. The key institutes, authors and the research hotspots are revealed. It is found that the research institutes in the fields like Data Mining, Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition and some other fields of Machine Learning are quite consistent, implying a strong interaction between the community of each field. It is also showed that the research of Electronic Engineering and Industrial or Commercial applications are very active in California. Japan is also publishing a lot of papers in robotics. Due to the limitation of data source, the result might be overly influenced by the number of published articles, which is to our best improved by applying network keynode analysis on the research community instead of merely count the number of publish.

Chaotic parameter $λ$ in Hanbury-Brown-Twiss interferometry in an anisotropic boson gas model

Using one- and two-body density matrices, we calculate the spatial and momentum distributions, two-particle Hanbury-Brown Twiss (HBT) correlation functions, and the chaotic parameter $λ$ in HBT interferometry for the systems of boson gas within the harmonic oscillator potentials with anisotropic frequencies in transverse and longitudinal directions. The HBT chaotic parameter, which can be obtained by measuring the correlation functions at zero relative momentum of the particle pair, is related to the degree of Bose-Einstein condensation and thus the system environment. We investigate the effects of system temperature, particle number, and the average momentum of the particle pair on the chaotic parameter. The value of $λ$ decreases with the condensed fraction, $f_0$. It is one for $f_0=0$ and zero for $f_0=1$. For a certain $f_0$ between 0 and 1, we find that $λ$ increases with the average momentum of the particle pair and decreases with the particle number of system. The results of $λ$ are sensitive to the ratio, $ν=ω_z/ω_ρ$, of the frequencies in longitudinal and transverse directions. They are smaller for larger $ν$ when $ω_ρ$ is fixed. In the heavy ion collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energy the large identical pion multiplicity may possibly lead to a considerable Bose-Einstein condensation. Its effect on the chaotic parameter in two-pion interferometry is worth considering in earnest.

Enhanced correlation of electron-positron pair in the two and three dimensions

Early-time electron-positron correlation in vacuum pair-production in an external field is investigated. The entangled electron and positron wave functions are obtained analytically in the configuration and momentum spaces. It is shown that, relative to that of the one-dimensional theory, two- and three-dimensional calculations yield enhanced spatial correlation and broadened momentum spectrum. In fact, at early times the electron and positron almost coincide spatially. The correlation also depends on the direction of the applied field. For the spatial correlation, the transverse correlation is stronger than the longitudinal one.

Pair-Tunneling Induced Localized Waves in a Vector Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation

We investigate the localized waves of the coupled two-mode nonlinear Schrödinger equations with a pair-tunneling term representing strongly interacting particles can tunnel between the modes as a fragmented pair. Facilitated by Darboux transformation, we have derived exact solution of nonlinear vector waves such as bright solitons, Kuznetsov-Ma soliton, Akhmediev breathers and rogue waves and demonstrated their interesting temporal-spatial structures. The phase diagram that demarcates the parameter ranges of the nonlinear waves is obtained. Our results have implications in such diverse fields as Bose-Einstein condensate, nonlinear fibers and super fluids.

Temporal-Spatial Interference Pattern During Solitons Interaction

Interference patterns associated with soliton-soliton interaction are investigated in detail. We find that the temporal and spatial interference patterns exhibit quite different characteristics. The period of the spatial interference pattern is determined by the relative velocity of the solitons, and the temporal pattern behavior is determined by the peak amplitudes and the kinetic energy of the solitons. Analytical expressions for the periods of the interference patterns are obtained. A method for classifying the nonlinearity of many nonlinear systems is proposed. As an example, we discuss possibilities to observe these properties of solitons in a nonlinear planar waveguide.

High-throughput Imaging and Spectroscopy of Individual Carbon Nanotubes in Devices with Light Microscopy

Two paramount challenges in carbon nanotube research are achieving chirality-controlled synthesis and understanding chirality-dependent device physics. High-throughput and in-situ chirality and electronic structural characterization of individual carbon nanotubes is crucial for addressing these challenges. Optical imaging and spectroscopy has unparalleled throughput and specificity, but its realization for single nanotubes on substrates or in devices has long been an outstanding challenge. Here we demonstrate video-rate imaging and in-situ spectroscopy of individual carbon nanotubes on various substrates and in functional devices using a novel high-contrast polarization-based optical microscopy. Our technique enables the complete chirality profiling of hundreds of as-grown carbon nanotubes. In addition, we in-situ monitor nanotube electronic structure in active field-effect devices, and observe that high-order nanotube optical resonances are dramatically broadened by electrostatic doping. This unexpected behaviour points to strong interband electron-electron scattering processes that can dominate ultrafast dynamics of excited states in carbon nanotubes.

Switching from Crossed Andreev Reflection to Electron Teleportation via Quantum dot

We study electron transport through a normal lead-quantum dot-topological superconductor-quantum dot-normal lead (N-QD-TS-QD-N) junction. Due to the non-local nature of Majorana fermions (MFs) in the topological superconductor, there are two types of single electron transport processes in the junction: crossed Andreev reflection (CAR) and electron teleportation (ET). When the coupling energy of MFs is much larger than the coupling between MFs and QDs, electron can tunnel through topological superconductor either via CAR or ET depending on the energy levels of QDs. For instance, when both energies of QDs (labeled as $ε_1$ and $ε_2$) are equal to the coupling energy of MFs (denoted as $E_M$), the electron in the left lead can teleport to the right lead via MFs while when $ε_1=-ε_2=E_M$ is satisfied, the electron in the left lead can combine one electron in the right lead to form a cooper pair and tunnel into the topological superconductor via MFs. Since both electron teleportation and crossed Andreev reflection manifest the non-local properties of MFs, they can be used to examine the nature of MFs.

Parameterization and Reconstruction of Quasi Static Universe

We study a possibility of the fate of universe, in which there is neither the rip singularity, which results in the disintegration of bound systems, nor the endless expansion, instead the universe will be quasi static. We discuss the parameterization of the corresponding evolution and the reconstruction of the scalar field model. We find, with the parameterization consistent with the current observation, that the current universe might arrive at a quasi static phase after less than 20Gyr.

Majorana Fermion Induced Non-local Current Correlations in Spin-orbit Coupled Superconducting Wires

Recent observation of zero bias conductance peaks in semiconductor wire/superconductor heterostructures has generated great interest, and there is a hot debate on whether the observation is associated with Majorana fermions (MFs). Here we study the local and crossed Andreev reflections in a junction of two normal leads and a sandwiched superconductor-semiconductor wire with two spatially separated but strongly coupled MF end states. The conductance and Fano factors of such a device are sharply different from the topologically trivial case even in the presence of disorder, and can hence be used to identify MFs unambiguously.

Fast Complex Network Clustering Algorithm Using Agents

Recently, the sizes of networks are always very huge, and they take on distributed nature. Aiming at this kind of network clustering problem, in the sight of local view, this paper proposes a fast network clustering algorithm in which each node is regarded as an agent, and each agent tries to maximize its local function in order to optimize network modularity defined by function Q, rather than optimize function Q from the global view as traditional methods. Both the efficiency and effectiveness of this algorithm are tested against computer-generated and real-world networks. Experimental result shows that this algorithm not only has the ability of clustering large-scale networks, but also can attain very good clustering quality compared with the existing algorithms. Furthermore, the parameters of this algorithm are analyzed.
