Method for constructing shortcuts to adiabaticity by a substitute of counterdiabatic driving terms

We propose an efficientmethod to construct shortcuts to adiabaticity through designing a substitute Hamiltonian to try to avoid the defect in which the speed-up protocol' Hamiltonian may involve terms which are difficult to realize in practice. We show that as long as the counterdiabatic coupling terms-even only some of them-have been nullified by the additional Hamiltonian, the corresponding shortcuts to the adiabatic process could be constructed and the adiabatic process would be sped up. As an application example, we apply this method to the popular Landau-Zener model for the realization of fast population inversion. The results show that in both Hermitian and non-Hermitian systems, we can design different additional Hamiltonians to replace the traditional counterdiabatic driving Hamiltonian to speed up the process. This method provides many choices for designing additional terms of the Hamiltonian such that one can choose a realizable model in practice.

Shortcuts to adiabatic passage for fast generation of Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states by transitionless quantum driving

Berry's approach on "transitionless quantum driving" shows how to set a Hamiltonian which drives the dynamics of a system along instantaneous eigenstates of a reference Hamiltonian to reproduce the same final result of an adiabatic process in a shorter time. In this paper, motivated by transitionless quantum driving, we construct shortcuts to adiabatic passage in a three-atom system to create the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states with the help of quantum Zeno dynamics and of non-resonant lasers. The influence of various decoherence processes is discussed by numerical simulation and the result proves that the scheme is fast and robust against decoherence and operational imperfection.

Fast Transfer-free Synthesis of High-quality Monolayer Graphene on Insulating Substrates by Simple Rapid Thermal Treatment

The transfer-free synthesis of high-quality, large-area graphene on a given dielectric substrate, which is highly desirable for device applications, remains a significant challenge. In this paper, we report on a simple rapid thermal treatment method for the fast and direct growth of high-quality, large-scale monolayer graphene on a SiO2/Si substrate from solid carbon sources. The stack structure of solid carbon layer/copper film/SiO2 is adopted in the RTT process. The inserted copper film does not only act as an active catalyst for the carbon precursor but also serves as a "filter" that prevents premature carbon dissolution, and thus, contributes to monolayer graphene growth on SiO2/Si. The produced monolayer graphene exhibits high carrier mobility of up to 3000 cm2 V-1s-1 at room temperature and standard half-integer quantum oscillations.

Fast generation of N-atom Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state in separate coupled cavities via transitionless quantum driving

By jointly using quantum Zeno dynamics and the approach of "transitionless quantum driving (TQD)" proposed by Berry to construct shortcuts to adiabatic passage (STAP), we propose an efficient scheme to fast generate multiatom Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states in separate cavities connected by opitical fibers only by one-step manipulation. We first detail the generation of the three-atom GHZ states via TQD, then, we compare the proposed TQD scheme with the traditional ones with adiabatic passage. At last, the influence of various decoherence factors, such as spontaneous emission, cavity decay and fiber photon leakage, is discussed by numerical simulations. All the results show that the present TQD scheme is fast and insensitive to atomic spontaneous emission and fiber photon leakage. Furthermore, the scheme can be directly generalized to realize N-atom GHZ states generation by the same principle in theory.

Fast and noise-resistant implementation of quantum phase gates and creation of quantum entangled states

The "Lewis-Riesenfeld phases" which plays a crucial role in constructing shortcuts to adiabaticity may be a resource for the implementation of quantum phase gates. By combining "Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant" with "quantum Zeno dynamics", we propose an effective scheme of rapidly implementing $π$ phase gates via constructing shortcuts to adiabatic passage in a two-distant-atom-cavity system. The influence of various decoherence processes such as spontaneous emission and photon loss on the fidelity is discussed. It is noted that this scheme is insensitive to both two error sources. Additionally, a creation of N-atom cluster states is put forward as a typical example of the applications of the fast and noise-resistant phase gates. The study results show that the shortcuts idea is not only applicable in other logic gates with different systems, but also propagable for many quantum information tasks.

Shortcuts to adiabatic passage for multiparticle in distant cavities: Applications to fast and noise-resistant quantum population transer, entangled states' preparation and transition

In this paper, we study the fast and noise-resistant population transfer, quantum entangled states preparation, and quantum entangled states' transition by constructing the shortcuts to adiabatic passage (STAP) for multiparticle based on the approach of "Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants" in distant cavity quantum electronic dynamics (QED) system. Numerical simulation demonstrates that all of the schemes are fast and robust against the decoherence caused by atomic spontaneous emission and photon leakage. Moreover, not only the total operation time but also the robustness in each scheme against decoherence is irrelevant to the number of qubits. This might lead to a useful step toward realizing the fast and noise-resistant quantum information processing in current technology.

Efficient shortcuts to adiabatic passage for the fast populations transfer in multiparticle systems

Achieving fast populations transfer (FPT) in multiparticle systems based on the cavity quantum electronic dynamics (CQED) is an outstanding challenge. In this paper, motivated by the quantum Zeno dynamics (QZD), a shortcut for performing the FPT of ground states in multiparticle systems with the invariant based inverse engineering is proposed. Numerical simulation demonstrates that a perfect populations transfer of ground states in multiparticle systems can be rapidly achieved in one step, and the FPT is robust to both the cavity decay and atomic spontaneous emission. Additionally, this scheme is not only implemented without requiring extra complex conditions, but also insensitive to variations of the parameters.

Multi-color broadband visible light source via three-dimensional GaN hexagonal annular microstructures

Broadband visible light emitting, three-dimensional hexagonal annular microstructures with InGaN/GaN multiple quantum wells (MQWs) are fabricated via selective-area epitaxial growth. The single hexagonal annular structure is composed of not only polar facet of (0001) on top surface but also semi-polar facets of {10-11} and {11-22} in inner and outer sidewalls, exhibiting multi-color visible light emission from InGaN/GaN MQWs formed on the different facets. The InGaN MQWs on (0001) facet emits the longer wavelength (green color) due to the larger well thickness and the higher In composition, while those on semi-polar facets of {10-11} and {11-22} had highly-efficient shorter wavelength (violet to blue color) emission caused by smaller well thickness and smaller In composition. By combining the multiple color emission depending on different facets, high efficiency broadband visible light emission could be achieved. The emission color can be changed with excitation power density owing to the built-in electric field on the (0001) facet, which is confirmed by time-resolved luminescence experiments. The hexagonal annular structures can be a critical building block for highly efficient broadband visible light emitting sources, providing a solution to previous problems related to the fabrication issues for phosphor-free white light emitting devices.

Shortcuts to adiabatic passage for population transfer and maximum entanglement creation between two atoms in a cavity

We use the approach of "transitionless quantum driving" proposed by Berry to construct shortcuts to the population transfer and the creation of maximal entanglement between two $Λ$-type atoms based on the cavity quantum electronic dynamics (CQED) system. An effective Hamiltonian is designed by resorting to an auxiliary excited level, a classical driving field and an extra cavity field mode to supplement or substitute the original reference Hamiltonian, and steer the system evolution along its instantaneous eigenstates in an arbitrarily short time, speeding up the rate of population transfer and creation of maximal entanglement between the two atoms inside a cavity. Numerical simulation demonstrates that our shortcuts' performance is robust against the decoherences caused by atomic spontaneous emission and cavity photon leakage.

Generation of N-atom W-class states in spatially separated cavities

We propose a feasible and efficient scheme to generate $N$-atom $W$-class states in spatially separated cavities without using any classical driving pulses. We adopt the model in which the couplings between different atoms are mediated only by virtual excitations of the cavity and fiber fields, so the scheme is insensitive to the cavity decay and fiber photon leakage. We carry out both theoretical investigation in a decoherence-free subspace and numerical calculation accounting for decoherence due to the atomic spontaneous emission as well as the decay of cavity and fiber modes. The theoretical and numerical results agree in the large atom-cavity detuning regime. Our scheme proves to be useful in scalable distributed quantum networks.

Using shortcut to adiabatic passage for the ultrafast quantum state transfer in cavity QED system

We propose an alternative scheme to implement the quantum state transfer between two three-level atoms based on the invariant-based inverse engineering in cavity quantum electronic dynamics (QED) system. The quantum information can be ultrafast transferred between the atoms by taking advantage of the cavity field as a medium for exchanging quantum information speedily. Through designing the time-dependent laser pulse and atom-cavity coupling, we send the atoms through the cavity with a short time interval experiencing the two processes of the invariant dynamics between each atom and the cavity field simultaneously. Numerical simulation shows that the target state can be ultrafast populated with a high fidelity even when considering the atomic spontaneous emission and the photon leakage out of the cavity field. We also redesign a reasonable Gaussian-type wave form in the atom-cavity coupling for the realistic experiment operation.

Driving three atoms into a singlet state in an optical cavity via adiabatic passage of a dark state

In this paper, we propose an efficient scheme to drive three atoms in an optical cavity into a singlet state via adiabatic passage. Appropriate Rabi frequencies of the classical fields are selected to realize the present scheme. The scheme is robust against deviations in the pulse delay and laser intensity through some simple analysis of the adiabatic condition. It is notable that the estimated range of the effective adiabaticity condition coincides with the numerical results. When taking dissipation into account, we show that the process is immune to atomic spontaneous emission as the atomic excited states are never populated in adiabatic evolution. Moreover, under certain conditions, the cavity decay can also be efficiently suppressed.

One-step generation of multi-atom Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states in separate cavities via adiabatic passage

We propose a scheme to deterministically generate Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states of $N\geq 3$ atoms trapped in spatially separated cavities connected by optical fibers. The scheme is based on the technique of fractional stimulated Raman adiabatic passage which is one-step in the sense that one needs just wait for the desired entangled state to be generated in the stationary regime. The parametrized shapes of the Rabi frequencies of the classical fields that drive the two end atoms are chosen appropriately to realize the scheme. We also show numerically that the proposed scheme is insensitive to the fluctuations of the pulses' parameters and, at the same time, robust against decoherence caused by the dissipation due to fiber decay. Moreover, a relatively high fidelity can be obtained even in the presence of cavity decay and atomic spontaneous emission.

One-step implementation of the Fredkin gate via quantum Zeno dynamics

We study one-step implementation of the Fredkin gate in a bi-modal cavity under both resonant and large detuning conditions based on quantum Zeno dynamics, which reduces the complexity of experiment operations. The influence of cavity decay and atomic spontaneous emission is discussed by numerical calculation. The results demonstrate that the fidelity and the success probability are robust against cavity decay in both models and they are also insensitive to atomic spontaneous emission in the large detuning model. In addition, the interaction time is rather short in the resonant model compared to the large detuning model.

Atomic quantum state transferring and swapping via quantum Zeno dynamics

In this paper, we first demonstrate how to realize quantum state transferring (QST) from one atom to another based on quantum Zeno dynamics. Then, the QST protocol is generalized to realize the quantum state swapping (QSS) between two arbitrary atoms with the help of a third one. Furthermore, we also consider the QSS within a quantum network. The influence of decoherence is analyzed by numerical calculation. The results demonstrate that the protocols are robust against cavity decay.
