Using simulated Tianqin gravitational wave data and electromagnetic wave data to study the coincidence problem and Hubble tension problem

In this paper, we use electromagnetic wave data (H0LiCOW, $H(z)$, SNe) and gravitational wave data (Tianqin) to constrain the interacting dark energy (IDE) model and investigate the Hubble tension problem and coincidences problem. By combining these four kinds of data (Tianqin+H0LiCOW+SNe+$H(z)$), we obtained the parameter values at the confidence interval of $1σ$: $Ω_m=0.36\pm0.18$, $ω_x=-1.29^{+0.61}_{-0.23}$, $ξ=3.15^{+0.36}_{-1.1}$, and $H_0=70.04\pm0.42$ $kms^{-1}Mpc^{-1}$. According to our results, the best valve of $H_0$ show that the Hubble tension problem can be alleviated to some extent. In addition, the $ξ+3ω_x = -0.72^{+2.19}_{-1.19}(1σ)$ of which the center value indicates the coincidence problem is slightly alleviated. However, the $ξ+3ω_x = 0$ is still within the $1σ$ error range which indicates the $Λ$CDM model is still the model which is in best agreement with the observational data at present. Finally, we compare the constraint results of electromagnetic wave and gravitational wave on the model parameters and find that the constraint effect of electromagnetic wave data on model parameters is better than that of simulated Tianqin gravitational wave data.

Complementary Calibration: Boosting General Continual Learning with Collaborative Distillation and Self-Supervision

General Continual Learning (GCL) aims at learning from non independent and identically distributed stream data without catastrophic forgetting of the old tasks that don't rely on task boundaries during both training and testing stages. We reveal that the relation and feature deviations are crucial problems for catastrophic forgetting, in which relation deviation refers to the deficiency of the relationship among all classes in knowledge distillation, and feature deviation refers to indiscriminative feature representations. To this end, we propose a Complementary Calibration (CoCa) framework by mining the complementary model's outputs and features to alleviate the two deviations in the process of GCL. Specifically, we propose a new collaborative distillation approach for addressing the relation deviation. It distills model's outputs by utilizing ensemble dark knowledge of new model's outputs and reserved outputs, which maintains the performance of old tasks as well as balancing the relationship among all classes. Furthermore, we explore a collaborative self-supervision idea to leverage pretext tasks and supervised contrastive learning for addressing the feature deviation problem by learning complete and discriminative features for all classes. Extensive experiments on four popular datasets show that our CoCa framework achieves superior performance against state-of-the-art methods. Code is available at https://github.com/lijincm/CoCa.

Detecting Exploit Primitives Automatically for Heap Vulnerabilities on Binary Programs

Automated Exploit Generation (AEG) is a well-known difficult task, especially for heap vulnerabilities. Previous works first detected heap vulnerabilities and then searched for exploitable states by using symbolic execution and fuzzing techniques on binary programs. However, it is not always easy to discovery bugs using fuzzing or symbolic technologies and solvable for internal overflow of heap objects. In this paper, we present a solution DEPA to detect exploit primitives based on primitive-crucial-behavior model for heap vulnerabilities. The core of DEPA contains two novel techniques, 1) primitive-crucial-behavior identification through pointer dependence analysis, and 2) exploit primitive determination method which includes triggering both vulnerabilities and exploit primitives. We evaluate DEPA on eleven real-world CTF(capture the flag) programs with heap vulnerabilities and DEPA can discovery arbitrary write and arbitrary jump exploit primitives for ten programs except for program multi-heap. Results showed that primitive-crucial-behavior identification and determining exploit primitives are accurate and effective by using our approach. In addition, DEPA is superior to the state-of-the-art tools in determining exploit primitives for the heap object internal overflow

A review of Generative Adversarial Networks for Electronic Health Records: applications, evaluation measures and data sources

Electronic Health Records (EHRs) are a valuable asset to facilitate clinical research and point of care applications; however, many challenges such as data privacy concerns impede its optimal utilization. Deep generative models, particularly, Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) show great promise in generating synthetic EHR data by learning underlying data distributions while achieving excellent performance and addressing these challenges. This work aims to review the major developments in various applications of GANs for EHRs and provides an overview of the proposed methodologies. For this purpose, we combine perspectives from healthcare applications and machine learning techniques in terms of source datasets and the fidelity and privacy evaluation of the generated synthetic datasets. We also compile a list of the metrics and datasets used by the reviewed works, which can be utilized as benchmarks for future research in the field. We conclude by discussing challenges in GANs for EHRs development and proposing recommended practices. We hope that this work motivates novel research development directions in the intersection of healthcare and machine learning.

Probing the gravitational wave background from cosmic strings with Alternative LISA-TAIJI network

As one of the detection targets of all gravitational wave detectors at present, stochastic gravitational wave background (SGWB) provides us an important way to understand the evolution of our universe. In this paper, we explore the feasibility of detecting the SGWB generated by the loops, which arose throughout the cosmological evolution of the cosmic string network, by individual space detectors (e.g.~LISA, TAIJI) and joint space detectors (LISA-TAIJI). For joint detectors, we choose three different configurations of TAIJI (e.g.~TAIJIm, TAIJIp, TAIJIc) to form the LISA-TAIJI networks. And we investigate the performance of them to detect the SGWB. Though comparing the power-law sensitivity (PLS) curves of individual space detectors and joint detectors with energy density spectrum of SGWB. We find that LISA-TAIJIc has the best sensitivity for detecting the SGWB from cosmic string loops and is promising to further constrains the tension of cosmic sting $Gμ=O(10^{-17})$.

Self-training of Machine Learning Models for Liver Histopathology: Generalization under Clinical Shifts

Histopathology images are gigapixel-sized and include features and information at different resolutions. Collecting annotations in histopathology requires highly specialized pathologists, making it expensive and time-consuming. Self-training can alleviate annotation constraints by learning from both labeled and unlabeled data, reducing the amount of annotations required from pathologists. We study the design of teacher-student self-training systems for Non-alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH) using clinical histopathology datasets with limited annotations. We evaluate the models on in-distribution and out-of-distribution test data under clinical data shifts. We demonstrate that through self-training, the best student model statistically outperforms the teacher with a $3\%$ absolute difference on the macro F1 score. The best student model also approaches the performance of a fully supervised model trained with twice as many annotations.

An implementation of the matrix method using Chebyshev grid

In this work, we explore the properties of the matrix method for black hole quasinormal modes on the nonuniform grid. In particular, the method is implemented to be adapted to the Chebyshev grid, aimed at effectively suppressing Runge's phenomenon. It is found that while such an implementation is favorable from a mathematical point of view, in practice, the increase in precision does not necessarily compensate for the penalty in computational time. On the other hand, the original matrix method, though subject to Runge's phenomenon, is shown to be reasonably robust and suffices for most applications with a moderate grid number. In terms of computational time and obtained significant figures, we carried out an analysis regarding the trade-off between the two aspects. The implications of the present study are also addressed.

Integrated Sensing and Communication Beamforming Design Based on Mutual Information

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) unifies radar sensing and communication, and improves the efficiency of the spectrum, energy and hardware. In this paper, we investigate the ISAC beamforming design in a downlink system with a communication user and a point radar target to be perceived. The design criterion for radar sensing is the mutual information between the target response matrix and the echo signals, while the single user transmission rate is used as the performance metric of the communication. Two scenarios without and with interference from the communication user are investigated. A closed-form solution with low complexity and a solution based on the semidefinite relaxation (SDR) method are provided to solve these two problems, respectively. Numerical results demonstrate that, compared to the results obtained by SDR based on the CVX toolbox, the closed-form solution is tight in the feasible region. In addition, we show that the SDR method obtains an optimal solution.

Dualities and endomorphisms of pseudo-cones

In this paper we study a class of convex sets which are called closed pseudo-cones and study a new duality of this class. It turns out that the duality characterizes closed pseudo-cones and is essentially the only possible abstract duality of them. The characterization of the duality is corresponding to the classification of endomorphisms closed pseudo-cones.

Toward 6G TK$μ$ Extreme Connectivity: Architecture, Key Technologies and Experiments

Sixth-generation (6G) networks are evolving towards new features and order-of-magnitude enhancement of systematic performance metrics compared to the current 5G. In particular, the 6G networks are expected to achieve extreme connectivity performance with Tbps-scale data rate, Kbps/Hz-scale spectral efficiency, and $μ$s-scale latency. To this end, an original three-layer 6G network architecture is designed to realise uniform full-spectrum cell-free radio access and provide task-centric agile proximate support for diverse applications. The designed architecture is featured by super edge node (SEN) which integrates connectivity, computing, AI, data, etc. On this basis, a technological framework of pervasive multi-level (PML) AI is established in the centralised unit to enable task-centric near-real-time resource allocation and network automation. We then introduce a radio access network (RAN) architecture of full spectrum uniform cell-free networks, which is among the most attractive RAN candidates for 6G TK$μ$ extreme connectivity. A few most promising key technologies, i.e., cell-free massive MIMO, photonics-assisted Terahertz wireless access and spatiotemporal two-dimensional channel coding are further discussed. A testbed is implemented and extensive trials are conducted to evaluate innovative technologies and methodologies. The proposed 6G network architecture and technological framework demonstrate exciting potentials for full-service and full-scenario applications.

Construction of MDS self-dual codes from generalized Reed-Solomon codes

MDS codes and self-dual codes are important families of classical codes in coding theory. It is of interest to investigate MDS self-dual codes. The existence of MDS self-dual codes over finite field $F_q$ is completely solved for $q$ is even. In this paper, for finite field with odd characteristic, we construct some new classes of MDS self-dual codes by (extended) generalized Reed-Solomon codes.

Wavelet Transform-assisted Adaptive Generative Modeling for Colorization

Unsupervised deep learning has recently demonstrated the promise of producing high-quality samples. While it has tremendous potential to promote the image colorization task, the performance is limited owing to the high-dimension of data manifold and model capability. This study presents a novel scheme that exploits the score-based generative model in wavelet domain to address the issues. By taking advantage of the multi-scale and multi-channel representation via wavelet transform, the proposed model learns the richer priors from stacked coarse and detailed wavelet coefficient components jointly and effectively. This strategy also reduces the dimension of the original manifold and alleviates the curse of dimensionality, which is beneficial for estimation and sampling. Moreover, dual consistency terms in the wavelet domain, namely data-consistency and structure-consistency are devised to leverage colorization task better. Specifically, in the training phase, a set of multi-channel tensors consisting of wavelet coefficients is used as the input to train the network with denoising score matching. In the inference phase, samples are iteratively generated via annealed Langevin dynamics with data and structure consistencies. Experiments demonstrated remarkable improvements of the proposed method on both generation and colorization quality, particularly in colorization robustness and diversity.

A Multi-level Acoustic Feature Extraction Framework for Transformer Based End-to-End Speech Recognition

Transformer based end-to-end modelling approaches with multiple stream inputs have been achieved great success in various automatic speech recognition (ASR) tasks. An important issue associated with such approaches is that the intermediate features derived from each stream might have similar representations and thus it is lacking of feature diversity, such as the descriptions related to speaker characteristics. To address this issue, this paper proposed a novel multi-level acoustic feature extraction framework that can be easily combined with Transformer based ASR models. The framework consists of two input streams: a shallow stream with high-resolution spectrograms and a deep stream with low-resolution spectrograms. The shallow stream is used to acquire traditional shallow features that is beneficial for the classification of phones or words while the deep stream is used to obtain utterance-level speaker-invariant deep features for improving the feature diversity. A feature correlation based fusion strategy is used to aggregate both features across the frequency and time domains and then fed into the Transformer encoder-decoder module. By using the proposed multi-level acoustic feature extraction framework, state-of-the-art word error rate of 21.7% and 2.5% were obtained on the HKUST Mandarin telephone and Librispeech speech recognition tasks respectively.

CaTT-KWS: A Multi-stage Customized Keyword Spotting Framework based on Cascaded Transducer-Transformer

Customized keyword spotting (KWS) has great potential to be deployed on edge devices to achieve hands-free user experience. However, in real applications, false alarm (FA) would be a serious problem for spotting dozens or even hundreds of keywords, which drastically affects user experience. To solve this problem, in this paper, we leverage the recent advances in transducer and transformer based acoustic models and propose a new multi-stage customized KWS framework named Cascaded Transducer-Transformer KWS (CaTT-KWS), which includes a transducer based keyword detector, a frame-level phone predictor based force alignment module and a transformer based decoder. Specifically, the streaming transducer module is used to spot keyword candidates in audio stream. Then force alignment is implemented using the phone posteriors predicted by the phone predictor to finish the first stage keyword verification and refine the time boundaries of keyword. Finally, the transformer decoder further verifies the triggered keyword. Our proposed CaTT-KWS framework reduces FA rate effectively without obviously hurting keyword recognition accuracy. Specifically, we can get impressively 0.13 FA per hour on a challenging dataset, with over 90% relative reduction on FA comparing to the transducer based detection model, while keyword recognition accuracy only drops less than 2%.

Multiple Targets Directed Greybox Fuzzing

Directed greybox fuzzing (DGF) can quickly discover or reproduce bugs in programs by seeking to reach a program location or explore some locations in order. However, due to their static stage division and coarse-grained energy scheduling, prior DGF tools perform poorly when facing multiple target locations (targets for short). In this paper, we present multiple targets directed greybox fuzzing which aims to reach multiple programs locations in a fuzzing campaign. Specifically, we propose a novel strategy to adaptively coordinate exploration and exploitation stages, and a novel energy scheduling strategy by considering more relations between seeds and target locations. We implement our approaches in a tool called LeoFuzz and evaluate it on crash reproduction, true positives verification, and vulnerability exposure in real-world programs. Experimental results show that LeoFuzz outperforms six state-of-the-art fuzzers, i.e., QYSM, AFLGo, Lolly, Berry, Beacon and WindRanger in terms of effectiveness and efficiency. Moreover, LeoFuzz has detected 23 new vulnerabilities in real-world programs, and 11 of them have been assigned CVE IDs.

Adaptive Domain Interest Network for Multi-domain Recommendation

Industrial recommender systems usually hold data from multiple business scenarios and are expected to provide recommendation services for these scenarios simultaneously. In the retrieval step, the topK high-quality items selected from a large number of corpus usually need to be various for multiple scenarios. Take Alibaba display advertising system for example, not only because the behavior patterns of Taobao users are diverse, but also differentiated scenarios' bid prices assigned by advertisers vary significantly. Traditional methods either train models for each scenario separately, ignoring the cross-domain overlapping of user groups and items, or simply mix all samples and maintain a shared model which makes it difficult to capture significant diversities between scenarios. In this paper, we present Adaptive Domain Interest network that adaptively handles the commonalities and diversities across scenarios, making full use of multi-scenarios data during training. Then the proposed method is able to improve the performance of each business domain by giving various topK candidates for different scenarios during online inference. Specifically, our proposed ADI models the commonalities and diversities for different domains by shared networks and domain-specific networks, respectively. In addition, we apply the domain-specific batch normalization and design the domain interest adaptation layer for feature-level domain adaptation. A self training strategy is also incorporated to capture label-level connections across domains.ADI has been deployed in the display advertising system of Alibaba, and obtains 1.8% improvement on advertising revenue.

Effects of a global monopole on thermodynamic phase transition of the charged AdS black hole

In this paper, we study the dynamical properties of thermodynamic phase transition (PT) for the charged AdS black hole (BH) with a global monopole via the Gibbs free energy landscape and reveal the effects of a global monopole on the kinetics of the AdS BH thermodynamic PT. First, we briefly review the thermodynamics of the charged AdS BH with a global monopole. Then, we introduce the Gibbs free energy landscape to study the thermodynamic stability of the BH state. Because of thermal fluctuations, the small black hole (SBH) state can transit to the large black hole (LBH) state, and vice versa. We use the Fokker-Planck equation with the reflecting boundary condition to study the probability evolution of the BH state with and without a global monopole separately. We find that for both the SBH and LBH states, the global monopole could slow down the evolution of the BH state. In addition, we obtain the relationship between the first passage time and the monopole parameter $η$. The result shows that as the monopole parameter $η$ increases, the mean first passage time will be longer for both the SBH and LBH states.

An efficient real-time target tracking algorithm using adaptive feature fusion

Visual-based target tracking is easily influenced by multiple factors, such as background clutter, targets fast-moving, illumination variation, object shape change, occlusion, etc. These factors influence the tracking accuracy of a target tracking task. To address this issue, an efficient real-time target tracking method based on a low-dimension adaptive feature fusion is proposed to allow us the simultaneous implementation of the high-accuracy and real-time target tracking. First, the adaptive fusion of a histogram of oriented gradient (HOG) feature and color feature is utilized to improve the tracking accuracy. Second, a convolution dimension reduction method applies to the fusion between the HOG feature and color feature to reduce the over-fitting caused by their high-dimension fusions. Third, an average correlation energy estimation method is used to extract the relative confidence adaptive coefficients to ensure tracking accuracy. We experimentally confirm the proposed method on an OTB100 data set. Compared with nine popular target tracking algorithms, the proposed algorithm gains the highest tracking accuracy and success tracking rate. Compared with the traditional Sum of Template and Pixel-wise LEarners (STAPLE) algorithm, the proposed algorithm can obtain a higher success rate and accuracy, improving by 0.023 and 0.019, respectively. The experimental results also demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can reach the real-time target tracking with 50 fps. The proposed method paves a more promising way for real-time target tracking tasks under a complex environment, such as appearance deformation, illumination change, motion blur, background, similarity, scale change, and occlusion.
