Production of charmed baryon $Λ_c(2940)$ by kaon-induced reaction on a proton target

We investigate the possibility to study the charmed baryon $Λ_c(2940)$ by kaon-induced reaction on a proton target. By assuming the $Λ_c(2940)$ as a $pD^{*0}$ molecular state with spin-parity $J^{p}=1/2^{\pm}$, an effective Lagrangian approach was adopted to calculate the cross section, the $D^0p$ invariant mass spectrum and Dalitz plot of the $Λ(2940)$ production. The total cross section of the $K^{-}p\toΛ_c(2940)D_s^{-}$ reaction is found at an order of magnitude about 10 $μ$b. By considering the sub sequential decay $Λ_c(2940)\to{}D^0p$ with contributions from the $Λ_c(2286)$ and the $Σ_c(2455)$ as background, the $K^{-}p\to{}D_{s}^{-}D^{0}p$ reaction are studied. It is found that the $Λ_c(2940)$ is produced mainly at forward angles. The $Λ_c(2940)$ signal is predicted to be significant in the $D^0p$ invariant mass spectrum and the Dalitz plot of the $K^{-}p\to{}D_{s}^{-}D^{0}p$ reaction. The results suggest that it is promising to study the $Λ_c(2940)$ with high-energy kaon beam on a proton target in experiment.

Development and characterization of a 2.2 W narrow-linewidth 318.6 nm ultraviolet laser

We demonstrate a high-power narrow-linewidth ultraviolet (UV) laser system at 318.6 nm for direct 6S1/2-nP (n = 70 to 100) Rydberg excitation of cesium atoms. Based on commercial fiber lasers and efficient nonlinear frequency conversion technology, 2.26 W of tunable UV laser power is obtained from cavity-enhanced second harmonic generation following sum-frequency generation of two infrared lasers at 1560.5 nm and 1076.9 nm to 637.2 nm. The maximum doubling efficiency is 57.3%. The typical UV laser power root-mean-square fluctuation is less than 0.87% over 30 minutes, and the continuously tunable range of the UV laser frequency is more than 6 GHz. Its beam quality factors M2 X and M2 Y are 1.16 and 1.48, respectively. This high-performance UV laser has significant potential use in quantum optics and cold atom physics.

Photoproduction of hidden-charm states in the $γp \to \bar{D}^{*0} Λ^+_c$ reaction near threshold

We report on a theoretical study of the hidden charm $N^*_{c \bar{c}}$ states in the $γp \to \bar{D}^{*0} Λ^+_c$ reaction near threshold within an effective Lagrangian approach. In addition to the contributions from the $s$-channel nucleon pole, the $t$-channel $D^0$ exchange, the $u$-channel $Λ^+_c$ exchange and the contact term, we study the contributions from the $N^*_{c \bar{c}}$ states with spin-parity $J^P = 1/2^-$ and $3/2^-$. The total and differential cross sections of the $γp \to \bar{D}^{*0} Lambda^+_c$ reaction are predicted. It is found that the contributions of these $N^*_{c \bar{c}}$ states give clear peak structures in the total cross sections. Thus, this reaction is another new platform to study the hidden-charm states. It is expected that our model calculation may be tested by the future experiments.

The origin of bias independent conductance plateaus and zero bias conductance peaks in Bi2Se3/NbSe2 hybrid structures

Superconducting proximity effect (SPE) in topological insulator (TI) and superconductor (SC) hybrid structure has attracted intense attention in recent years in an effort to search for mysterious Majorana fermions (MFs) in condensed matter systems. Here we report on the SPE in a Bi2Se3/NbSe2 junction fabricated with an all-dry transfer method. Resulting from the highly transparent interface, two sharp resistance drops are observed at 7 K and 2 K, respectively, corresponding to the superconducting transition of NbSe2 flake and the SPE induced superconductivity in Bi2Se3 flake. Experimentally measured differential conductance spectra exhibit a bias-independent conductance plateau (BICP) in the vicinity of zero bias below 7 K. As temperatures further decrease a zero bias conductance peak (ZBCP) emerges from the plateau and becomes more enhanced and sharpened at lower temperatures. Our numerically simulated differential conductance spectra reproduce the observed BICP and ZBCP and show that the SPE in topological surface states (TSS) is much stronger than that in the bulk states of Bi2Se3. The SPE induced superconducting gap for the TSS of Bi2Se3 is comparable to that of NbSe2 and gives rise to the observed BICP below 7 K. In contrast, the SPE induced superconducting gap for the bulk states of Bi2Se3 is an order of magnitude smaller than that of NbSe2 and superconducting TSS. These weakly paired bulk states in Bi2Se3 give rise to the ZBCP below 2 K. Our study has clearly unveiled the different roles of TSS and bulk stats in SPE, clarified the physical origin of the SPE induced features, and shined light on further investigation of SPE and MF in TI/SC hybrid structures.

Suppression of single cesium atom heating in a microscopic optical dipole trap for demonstration of an 852nm triggered single-photon source

We investigate single cesium (Cs) atom heating owing to the momentum accumulation process induced by the resonant pulsed excitation in a microscopic optical dipole trap formed by a strongly focused 1064 nm laser beam. The heating depends on the trap frequency which restricts the maximum repetition rate of pulsed excitation. We experimentally verify the heating of a single atom and then demonstrate how to suppress it with an optimized pulsed excitation/cooling method. The typical trap lifetime of single Cs atom is extended from 108 +/- 6 us to 2536 +/- 31 ms, and the corresponding number of excitation increases from ~ 108 to ~ 360000. In applying this faster cooling method, we use the trapped single Cs atom as a triggered single-photon source at an excitation repetition rate of 10 MHz. The second-order intensity correlations of the emitted single photons are characterized by implementing Hanbury Brown and Twiss setup, and clear anti-bunching effect has been observed.

Electronic sideband locking of 318.6nm UV laser to an ultrastable optical cavity with a wide continuously tunable range

We have demonstrated a frequency-stabilized tunable 318.6 nm ultraviolet (UV) laser system for the single-photon 6S1/2 - nP (n = 70 ~ 100) Rydberg excitation of cesium atoms. The 637.2 nm laser produced by single-pass sum frequency generation from two infrared fiber lasers is offset locked to a high-finesse ultra-low expansion (ULE) optical cavity placed in ultra-high vacuum using the electronic sideband locking technique. The generated 318.6 nm UV laser via cavity-enhanced second-harmonic generation can be continuously tuned over 4 GHz by indirectly changing modulation frequency on the electro-optic phase modulator while the whole laser system remains locked. We analyze the tuning range mainly depends on the modulator bandwidth and the tunable range of the seed laser. The locking scheme offers a method to compensate the frequency difference between the reference frequency and the goal frequency to a desired excited state, and has huge potential in precision spectroscopic experiments of cold atoms.

High on/off ratio nanosecond laser pulses for a triggered single-photon source

An 852nm nanosecond laser pulse chain with a high on/off ratio is generated by chopping a continuous-wave laser beam using a Mach-Zehnder-type electro-optic intensity modulator(MZ-EOIM). The detailed dependence of the MZ-EOIM's on/off ratio on various parameters is characterized. By optimizing the incident beam polarization and stabilizing the MZ-EOIM temperature, a static on/off ratio of 12600:1 is achieved. The dynamic on/off ratios versus the pulse repetition rate and the pulse duty cycle are measured and discussed. The high-on/off-ratio nanosecond pulsed laser system was used in a triggered single-photon source based on a trapped single cesium atom, which reveals clear antibunching.

$\bar{K}$ -induced formation of the $f_2(1270)$ and $f_2^{'}(1525)$ resonances on proton targets

We investigate the productiong of $f_2(1270)$ and $f_2^{'}(1525)$ mesons in the $K^{-}p\toΛf_2(1270)$,$K^{-}p\toΛf^{'}_2(1525)$ and $K^{-}p\to{}K^{+}K^{-}Λ$ reactions within an effective Lagrangian approach. For $K^{-}p\to{}f_2Λ$ reaction, by considering the contributions from the $t$-channel $K^{+}$ exchange and $u$-channel nucleon pole, we get a fairly good description of the experimental measurements about the total and differential cross sections. Based on the studies of the $K^{-}p\to{}f_2Λ$ reaction, we investigate $K^{-}p\to{}K^{+}K^{-}Λ$ reaction including the contributions from the $f_2(1270)$ and $f'_2(1525)$ mesons decaying into $K^+K^-$ pair. The total cross sections and invariant mass distribution of the $K p \to K^+K^- Λ$ reaction are predicted. The results can be tested in future experiments and therefore offer new clues on the nature of these tensor states.

Average Drift Analysis and Population Scalability

This paper aims to study how the population size affects the computation time of evolutionary algorithms in a rigorous way. The computation time of an evolutionary algorithm can be measured by either the expected number of generations (hitting time) or the expected number of fitness evaluations (running time) to find an optimal solution. Population scalability is the ratio of the expected hitting time between a benchmark algorithm and an algorithm using a larger population size. Average drift analysis is presented for comparing the expected hitting time of two algorithms and estimating lower and upper bounds on population scalability. Several intuitive beliefs are rigorously analysed. It is prove that (1) using a population sometimes increases rather than decreases the expected hitting time; (2) using a population cannot shorten the expected running time of any elitist evolutionary algorithm on unimodal functions in terms of the time-fitness landscape, but this is not true in terms of the distance-based fitness landscape; (3) using a population cannot always reduce the expected running time on fully-deceptive functions, which depends on the benchmark algorithm using elitist selection or random selection.

Analysis of recent CLAS data on $Σ^{\ast }(1385)$ photoproduction off a neutron target

Based on recent experimental data obtained by the CLAS Collaboration, the $Σ(1385)$ photoproduction off a neutron target at laboratory photon energies $E_γ$ up to 2.5\,GeV is investigated in an effective Lagrangian approach including $s$-, $u$-, and $t$-channel Born-term contributions. The present calculation does not take into account any explicit $s$-channel baryon-resonance contributions, however, in the spirit of duality, we include $t$-channel exchanges of mesonic Regge trajectories. The onset of the Regge regime is controlled by smoothly interpolating between Feynman-type single-meson exchanges and full-fledged Regge-trajectory exchanges. Gauge invariance broken by the Regge treatment is fully restored by introducing contact-type interaction currents that result from the implementation of \textit{local} gauge invariance in terms of generalized Ward-Takahashi identities. The cross sections for the $γn\to K^+Σ^*(1385)^-$ reaction are calculated and compared with experimental results from the CLAS and LEPS collaborations. Despite its simplicity, the present theoretical approach provides a good description of the main features of the data. However, the parameters fitted to the data show that the gauge-invariance-restoring contact term plays a large role which may point to large contributions from final-state interactions.

The $K^{\ast 0}Λ$ photoproduction off a neutron

Inspired by the preliminary experimental data by the CLAS Collaboration, the $K^{\ast 0}Λ$ photoproduction off a neutron is studied within an effective Lagrangian approach. The contributions from the Born terms including $s$, $u$, and $t$ channels are considered to calculate the amplitude, with which the cross sections are calculated and compared with preliminary CLAS data. The theoretical results indicate that the contribution from the $K$-exchange $t$ channel plays a dominant role for the $K^{\ast 0}Λ$ photoproduction. The contribution from the $κ$ exchange is found one order of magnitude smaller than that from the $K$ exchange. Both the Regge model and the Feynman model are applied to treat the $t$-channel contribution. The discrepancy between two models is found small in the energy range of CLAS data and predicted to become obvious at energies higher than 3 GeV. More precise experimental data especially at backward angles will be helpful to further understand the interaction mechanism of the $K^{\ast 0}Λ$ photoproduction.

Pion-induced production of the $Z_c(3900)$ off a nuclear target

We investigate the possibility to study the charmoniumlike state $Z_c(3900)$ through the pion-induced production off a nuclear target. By using a high-energy pion beam, the $Z_c(3900)$ can be produced off a proton or nucleus though the Primakoff effect. The production amplitude is calculated in an effective Lagrangian approach combined with the vector dominance model. The total cross sections of the $p(π^-, Z^-_c(3900))$ and $p(π^-, Z^-_c(3900)\to J/ψπ^-)$ reactions are calculated, and their order of magnitude is about 0.1 and 0.01nb, respectively, with an assumption of branch ratio 10\% for the $Z_c(3900)$ decay in $J/ψπ$ channel. If the proton target is replaced by a nuclear target, the production of the $Z_c(3900)$ enhances obviously. The predicted total cross sections for the $A(π^-, Z^-_c(3900))$ and $A(π^-, Z^-_c(3900)\to J/ψπ^-)$ reactions with $A=^{12}$C or $^{208}$Pb are on the order of magnitude of 100 and 10 nb, respectively, which is about one thousand times larger than the cross sections off a proton target. Based on these the results, we suggest the experimental study of the $Z_c(3900)$ by using high-energy pion beams with a nuclear target at facilities such as COMPASS and J-PARC.

Improvement of vacuum squeezing resonant on the rubidium D1 line at 795 nm

We report on efficient generation of second harmonic laser and single-mode vacuum squeezed light of 795 nm with periodically poled KTiOPO4 (PPKTP) crystals. We achieved 111 mW of ultra-violet (UV) light at 397.5 nm from 191 mW of fundamental light with a PPKTP crystal in a doubling cavity, corresponding to a conversion efficiency of 58.1%. Using the UV light to pump an optical parametric oscillator with a PPKTP crystal, we realized -5.6 dB of a maximum squeezing. We analyzed the pump power dependence of the squeezing level and concluded that the UV light induced losses limit the improvement of the squeezing level. The generated squeezed light has huge potential application in quantum memory and ultra-precise measurement.

Coexistence of spin glass and ferroelectricity in highly ordered Bi2FeMnO6 epitaxial thin film

Highly ordered Bi2FeMnO6 epitaxial thin films have been successfully grown on SrTiO3 substrate. Both synchrotron X-ray reciprocal space mapping and high resolution transmission electron microscopy confirmed the alternative alignment of Fe and Mn along [111] direction of Bi2FeMnO6 films. Magnetic and ferroelectric properties of Bi2FeMnO6 films are characterized and analyzed. The room-temperature ferroelectricity is well kept in Bi2FeMnO6 film as expected. However, it is very interesting that Bi2FeMnO6 film exhibits a typical spin-glass behavior and very weak magnetism rather than a ferri/ferromagnetism as generally believed. Our first-principles calculations suggest a spin frustration model for Bi2FeMnO6, which can well explain the intriguing magnetic property of Bi2FeMnO6 film.

Realization and characterization of single-frequency tunable 637.2 nm high-power laser

We report the generation of narrow-linewidth 637.2 nm laser by single-pass sum-frequency generation (SFG) of two infrared lasers at 1560.5 nm and 1076.9 nm in PPMgO:LN crystal. Over 8.75 W of single-frequency continuously tunable 637.2 nm laser is realized, and corresponding conversion efficiency is 38%. We study the behavior of crystals with different poling periods. The detailed experiments show that the output red lasers have very good power stability and beam quality. This high-performance 637.2 nm laser is significant for the realization of high power ultra-violet (UV) 318.6 nm laser via cavity-enhanced frequency doubling. Narrow-linewidth 318.6 nm laser is important for Rydberg excitation of cesium atoms via single-photon transition.

Investigation of two-color magneto-optical trap with cesium 6S1/2-6P3/2-7S1/2 ladder-type system

A novel cesium (Cs) two-color magneto-optical trap (TC-MOT), which partially employs the optical radiation forces due to photon scattering of the 6P3/2 (F'=5) - 7S1/2 (F"=4) excited-state transition in the Cs 6S1/2 - 6P3/2 - 7S1/2 (852 + 1470 nm) ladder-type system, has been proposed and experimentally investigated. One of the three pairs of 852 nm cooling/trapping beams (CTBs) in a conventional Cs MOT is replaced with a pair of the 1470 nm CTBs (type-I) or with one 852 nm CTB plus another counter-propagating 1470 nm CTB (type-II). Both the type-I and type-II Cs TC-MOTs can cool and trap atoms on both the red- and blue-detuning sides of the two-photon resonance. The Cs TC-MOT demonstrated in this work may have applications in the background-free detection of cooled and trapped atoms, and the photon-pair sources compatible with the ensemble-based quantum memory and the long-distance quantum communication via optical fiber.

$\bar{D}Σ^*_c$ and $\bar{D}^*Σ_c$ interactions and the LHCb hidden-charmed pentaquarks

Very recently, two hidden-charmed resonances $P_c(4380)$ and $P_c(4450)$ consistent with pentaquark states were observed at the LHCb detector. The two $P_c$ states locate just below the $\bar{D}Σ^*_c$ and $\bar{D}^*Σ_c$ thresholds with mass of gaps about 5 and 15 MeV, respectively. Inspired by this fact we perform a dynamical investigation about the $\bar{D}Σ_c^*(2520)$ and $\bar{D}^*Σ_c(2455)$ interactions which are described by the meson exchanges. A bound state which carries spin-parity $J^P=3/2^-$ is produced from the $\bar{D}Σ^*_c(2520)$ interaction, which is consistent with the $P_c(4380)$ observed at the LHCb detector. From the $D^*Σ_c(2455)$ interaction, a bound state with $5/2^+$ is produced, which can be related to the $P_c(4450)$. The results suggest that the $P_c(4380)$ and $P_c(4450)$ are good candidates of $\bar{D}Σ_c^*(2520)$ and $\bar{D}^*Σ_c(2455)$ molecular states, respectively.

The Octet Meson and Octet Baryon Interaction with strangeness and the $Λ(1405)$

The octet meson and baryon interaction with strangeness $S=-1$ is studied fully relativistically with chiral Lagrangian. In this work, a Bethe-Salpeter equation approach with spectator quasipotential approximation is applied to study the reactions $K^-p\to MB$ with $MB=K^-p,\bar{K}^0n, π^-Σ^+,π^0Σ^0, π^+Σ^-$ and $ηΛ$ with all possible partial waves and theoretical results are comparable with experimental data. It is found that the Weinberg-Tomozawa potential derived from the lowest order chiral Lagrangian only provides the contributions from partial waves with spin-parities $J^P=1/2^+$ and $1/2^-$. Two-pole structure of the $Λ(1405)$ is confirmed with poles at $1383+99 i$ and $1423+14i$ MeV. The lower and higher poles originate from $Σπ$ interaction as a resonance and $\bar{K}N$ interaction as a bound state, respectively.
