Tensor-Engineered Van der Waals NbOCl2 Resonant Metasurface for Polarization-entangled Bell State Generation

Polarization-entangled photon pairs are essential resources for quantum information technologies, yet realizing compact sources with intrinsically controllable entanglement remains challenging. Van der Waals (vdW) nonlinear materials such as NbOCl2 provide atomically thin platforms for quantum light generation, yet their native crystalline anisotropies as natural materials impose limitations on accessible quantum states. Here, we develop a resonant vdW nonlinear metasurface based on NbOCl2 that exploits its intrinsic optical anisotropy to engineer polarization-dependent nonlinear responses. The anisotropic optical dispersion enables selective manipulation of resonant modes, resulting in a three-order-of-magnitude enhancement of the nonlinear response along the c axis. By further tailoring these resonant modes, we redistribute the effective second-order nonlinear susceptibility tensor between orthogonal polarization channels, balancing the spontaneous parametric down-conversion pathways along the b and c axes. This enables polarization-entangled photon generation with a measured fidelity of up to 92%. Our work establishes metasurface-enabled nonlinear optical engineering as a strategy for enhancing and controlling quantum light generation in vdW materials, providing a pathway toward scalable quantum photonic platforms.

Reconfigurable ultrafast perovskite polariton logic gates via nonlinear dynamics

Exciton-polaritons provide a great platform for developing ultrafast all-optical logic gates for quantum and optical chips. However, progress toward practical polariton logic remains limited due to incomplete logical functionality on a single device. Herein, we present a single-device perovskite polariton platform enabling reconfigurable, ultrafast logic gates with functional completeness. The device consists of an optically trapped perovskite microwire, generating well-controlled non-equilibrium polariton condensation states for multiple logic operation channels. By tailoring the power of signal and gate beams, the same device is programmed to execute three basic Boolean functions (AND,OR,and NOT) and a high-order XOR function with a high on/off ratio of 21 dB, and a fast response time 6.7 ps. The reconfigurability arises from the selective activation of different nonlinear responses of polariton condensates, including amplification, seeding state transitions, and nonlinear interaction. These results provide valuable insights for advancing exciton-polariton logic gates.

Strongly Magnetically Tuned Coupling Strength and Nonlinearity in CrSBr Exciton-Polaritons

Two-dimensional van der Waals (vdW) magnetic semiconductors CrSBr offer an ideal platform to achieve exciton-polaritons correlated with magnetic orders for developing solid-state quantum, spintronic, and photonic devices. However, for the exciton-polaritons formed by lower-energy excitons (XL = 1.37 eV), the coupling strength and nonlinear optical response are almost inert to the external magnetic field. Here, we demonstrate robust strong coupling between higher-energy excitons (XH = 1.8 eV) and photons that persists up to room temperature, along with giant magnetic-field tunability. The Rabi splitting energy is tuned up to 100 meV within a moderate 0.45 T in-plane magnetic field due to changes in excitonic states during the spin transitions. Besides, we observe significantly enhanced polariton nonlinearity in the intermediate magnetic phase, which exhibits a distinct mode-number dependence and originates from magnon-assisted long-range attractive interactions and coupling strength reduction. These results advance the development of on-demand polariton platforms for spin-correlated quantum optoelectronics.
