Chiral phase transition and meson spectrum in improved soft-wall AdS/QCD

We investigate in detail the chiral thermal transition of QCD in an improved soft-wall AdS/QCD model with a simply modified 5D conformal mass of the bulk scalar field. We also present a calculation in this model for the light meson spectra and other low-energy characteristic quantities including the pion form factor, the pi-rho coupling constant and the decay constants of pi, rho, a_1, which are shown to result in a good agreement with experimental data except for the pion decay constant. The thermal behavior of chiral condensate is studied. It is found that such a simply improved soft-wall model incorporates the crossover behavior of chiral thermal transition indicated by lattice simulations. The expected chiral transition temperature can be obtained.

A strengthened monotonicity inequality of quantum relative entropy: A unifying approach via Rényi relative entropy

We derive a strengthened monotonicity inequality for quantum relative entropy by employing properties of $α$-Rényi relative entropy. We develop a unifying treatment towards the improvement of some quantum entropy inequalities. In particular, an emphasis is put on a lower bound of quantum conditional mutual information (QCMI) as it gives a Pinsker-like lower bound for the QCMI. We also give some improved entropy inequalities based on Rényi relative entropy. The inequalities obtained, thus, extends some well-known ones. We also obtain a condition under which a tripartite operator becomes a Markov state. As a by-product we provide some trace inequalities of operators, which are of independent interest.

Average coherence and its typicality for random pure states

We investigate the generic aspects of quantum coherence guided by the concentration of measure phenomenon. We find the average relative entropy of coherence of pure quantum states sampled randomly from the uniform Haar measure and show that it is typical, i.e., the probability that the relative entropy of coherence of a randomly chosen pure state is not equal to the average relative entropy of coherence (within an arbitrarily small error) is exponentially small in the dimension of the Hilbert space. We find the dimension of a random subspace of the total Hilbert space such that all pure states that reside on it almost always have at least a fixed nonzero amount of the relative entropy of coherence that is arbitrarily close to the typical value of coherence. Further, we show, with high probability, every state (pure or mixed) in this subspace also has the coherence of formation at least equal to the same fixed nonzero amount of the typical value of coherence. Thus, the states from these random subspaces can be useful in the relevant coherence consuming tasks like catalysis in the coherence resource theory. Moreover, we calculate the expected trace distance between the diagonal part of a random pure quantum state and the maximally mixed state, and find that it does not approach to zero in the asymptotic limit. This establishes that randomly chosen pure states are not typically maximally coherent (within an arbitrarily small error). Additionally, we find the lower bound on the relative entropy of coherence for the set of pure states whose diagonal parts are at a fixed most probable distance from the maximally mixed state.

Efficient Scheduling and Power Allocation for D2D-assisted Wireless Caching Networks

We study an one-hop device-to-device (D2D) assisted wireless caching network, where popular files are randomly and independently cached in the memory of end-users. Each user may obtain the requested files from its own memory without any transmission, or from a helper through an one-hop D2D transmission, or from the base station (BS). We formulate a joint D2D link scheduling and power allocation problem to maximize the system throughput. However, the problem is non-convex and obtaining an optimal solution is computationally hard. Alternatively, we decompose the problem into a D2D link scheduling problem and an optimal power allocation problem. To solve the two subproblems, we first develop a D2D link scheduling algorithm to select the largest number of D2D links satisfying both the signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) and the transmit power constraints. Then, we develop an optimal power allocation algorithm to maximize the minimum transmission rate of the scheduled D2D links. Numerical results indicate that both the number of the scheduled D2D links and the system throughput can be improved simultaneously with the Zipf-distribution caching scheme, the proposed D2D link scheduling algorithm, and the proposed optimal power allocation algorithm compared with the state of arts.

Impacts of suppressing guide on information spreading

It is quite common that guides are introduced to suppress the information spreading in modern society for different purposes. In this paper, an agent-based model is established to quantitatively analyze the impacts of suppressing guides on information spreading. We find that the spreading threshold depends on the attractiveness of the information and the topology of the social network with no suppressing guides at all. Usually, one would expect that the existence of suppressing guides in the spreading procedure may result in less diffusion of information within the overall network. However, we find that sometimes the opposite is true: the manipulating nodes of suppressing guides may lead to more extensive information spreading when there are audiences with the reversal mind. These results can provide valuable theoretical references to public opinion guidance on various information, e.g., rumor or news spreading.

Asymptotic Performance Analysis for 1-bit Bayesian Smoothing

Energy-efficient signal processing systems require estimation methods operating on data collected with low-complexity devices. Using analog-to-digital converters (ADC) with $1$-bit amplitude resolution has been identified as a possible option in order to obtain low power consumption. The $1$-bit performance loss, in comparison to an ideal receiver with $\infty$-bit ADC, is well-established and moderate for low SNR applications ($2/π$ or $-1.96$ dB). Recently it has been shown that for parameter estimation with state-space models the $1$-bit performance loss with Bayesian filtering can be significantly smaller ($\sqrt{2/π}$ or $-0.98$ dB). Here we extend the analysis to Bayesian smoothing where additional measurements are used to reconstruct the current state of the system parameter. Our results show that a $1$-bit receiver performing smoothing is able to outperform an ideal $\infty$-bit system carrying out filtering by the cost of an additional processing delay $Δ$.

Fidelity between a bipartite state and another one undergoing local unitary dynamics

The fidelity and local unitary transformation are two widely useful notions in quantum physics. We study two constrained optimization problems in terms of the maximal and minimal fidelity between two bipartite quantum states undergoing local unitary dynamics. The problems are related to the geometric measure of entanglement and the distillability problem. We show that the problems can be reduced to semi-definite programming optimization problems. We give close-form formulae of the fidelity when the two states are both pure states, or a pure product state and the Werner state. We explain from the point of view of local unitary actions that why the entanglement in Werner states is hard to accessible. For general mixed states, we give upper and lower bounds of the fidelity using tools such as affine fidelity, channels and relative entropy from information theory. We also investigate the power of local unitaries and quantification for the commutativity of quantum states, and the equivalence of the two optimization problems.

Quantum marginal inequalities and the conjectured entropic inequalities

A conjecture -- \emph{the modified super-additivity inequality} of relative entropy -- was proposed in \cite{Zhang2012}: There exist three unitary operators $U_A\in \unitary{\cH_A},U_B\in \unitary{\cH_B}$, and $U_{AB}\in \unitary{\cH_A\ot \cH_B}$ such that $$ \rS(U_{AB}ρ_{AB}U^\dagger_{AB}||σ_{AB}) \geqslant \rS(U_Aρ_AU^\dagger_A||σ_A) + \rS(U_Bρ_BU^\dagger_B||σ_B), $$ where the reference state $σ$ is required to be full-ranked. A numerical study on the conjectured inequality is conducted in this note. The results obtained indicate that the modified super-additivity inequality of relative entropy seems to hold for all qubit pairs.

The Saturation of Several Universal Inequalities in Information-Processing

In this paper, we characterize the saturation of four universal inequalities in quantum information theory, including a variant version of strong subadditivity inequality for von Neumann entropy, the coherent information inequality, the Holevo quantity and average entropy inequalities. These results shed new light on quantum information inequalities.

Simulation of X-ray diffraction profiles for bent anisotropic crystals

The equations for calculating diffraction profiles for bent crystals are revisited for both meridional and sagittal bending. Two approximated methods for computing diffraction profiles are treated: multilamellar and Penning-Polder. A common treatment of crystal anisotropy is included in these models. The formulation presented is implemented into the XOP package, completing and updating the crystal module that simulates diffraction profiles for perfect, mosaic and now distorted crystals by elastic bending.

Interference Visibility as a Witness of Entanglement and Quantum Correlation

In quantum information and communication one looks for the non-classical features like interference and quantum correlations to harness the true power of composite systems. We show how the concept akin to interference is, in fact, intertwined in a quantitative manner to entanglement and quantum correlation. In particular, we prove that the difference in the squared visibility for a density operator before and after a complete measurement, averaged over all unitary evolutions, is directly related to the quantum correlation measure based on the measurement disturbance. For pure and mixed bipartite states the unitary average of the squared visibility is related to entanglement measure. This may constitute direct detection of entanglement and quantum correlations with quantum interference setups. Furthermore, we prove that for a fixed purity of the subsystem state, there is a complementarity relation between the linear entanglement of formation and the measurement disturbance. This brings out a quantitative difference between two kinds of quantum correlations.

A lower bound of quantum conditional mutual information

In this paper, a lower bound of quantum conditional mutual information is obtained by employing the Peierls-Bogoliubov inequality and Golden Thompson inequality. Comparison with the bounds obtained by other researchers indicates that our result is independent of any measurements. It may give some new insights over squashed entanglement and perturbations of Markov chain states.

On some entropy inequalities

In this short report, we give some new entropy inequalities based on Rényi relative entropy and the observation made by Berta {\em et al} [arXiv:1403.6102]. These inequalities obtained extends some well-known entropy inequalities. We also obtain a condition under which a tripartite operator becomes a Markov state.

Self-Frequency Shift of Cavity Soliton in Kerr Frequency Comb

We show that the ultrashort cavity soliton in octave-spanning Kerr frequency comb generation exhibits striking self-adaptiveness and robustness to external perturbations, resulting in a novel frequency shifting/cancellation mechanism and gigantic dispersive wave generation in response to the strong frequency dependence of Kerr nonlinearity, Raman scattering, chromatic dispersion, and cavity Q. These observations open up a great avenue towards versatile manipulation of nonlinear soliton dynamics, flexible spectrum engineering of mode-locked Kerr frequency combs, and highly efficient frequency translation of optical waves.

Perturbation of Browder Spectrum of Upper-triangular Operator Matrices

Let $M_{C}=\left(\begin{array}{cc}A&C\\0&B\\\end{array} \right)$ is a 2-by-2 upper triangular operator matrix acting on the Banach space $X\oplus Y$ or Hilbert space $H\oplus K$. For the most import spectra such as spectrum, essential spectrum and Weyl spectrum, the characterizations of the perturbations of $M_{C}$ on Banach space have been presented. However, the characterization for the Browder spectrum on the Banach space is still unknown. The goal of this paper is to present some necessary and sufficient conditions for $M_C$ to be Browder for some $C\in B(Y,X)$ by using an alternative approach based on matrix representation of operators and the ghost index theorem. Moreover, in the Hilbert space case the characterizations of the Fredholm and invertible perturbations of Browder spectrum are also given.
