Quasiperiodic oscillations as probes of rotating black holes in exponential dark matter environments

We construct the rotating counterpart of a black hole embedded in a dark-matter halo with the exponential-sphere profile $ρ=ρ_0e^{-r/r_0}$, using the Newman--Janis algorithm in the Azreg-A\"ınou form, and study its imprints on test-particle motion and quasiperiodic oscillations (QPOs). We derive closed-form orbital and epicyclic frequencies valid for any Kerr-like metric with a mass function and show that, to first order, the halo enters them only through its central density, acting as an effective cosmological constant $Λ_{eff}=8πρ_0$; the corrections are therefore universal for all cored profiles. The halo moves the innermost stable circular orbit outward and produces an outer boundary of stable orbits, while the sign of the frequency shift depends on the assumed equation of state of the halo. Fitting the relativistic precession model to the simultaneous QPO triplets of GRO~J1655$-$40 and XTE~J1859+226 with Markov-chain Monte Carlo sampling yields spins and emission radii consistent with Kerr and $ρ_0M^2<2.9\times10^{-5}$ and $3.0\times10^{-5}$ (95\%), respectively. In physical units these limits exclude only ultra-dense dark cores, $ρ_0\gtrsim10^{11}$~g\,cm$^{-3}$.

Accretion disk luminosity around rotating naked singularities

We explore circular geodesics of neutral test particles in the gravitational field of a rotating deformed mass. The geometry around this source is described by the Quevedo-Mashhoon solution, which corresponds to a naked singularity. To this end, we compute the orbital parameters of test particles in the equatorial plane, such as the angular velocity $Ω$, energy $E$ and angular momentum $L$, per unit mass. We also numerically estimate the radius of the innermost stable circular orbit $r_{ISCO}$. In addition, we consider a simple model for the disk's radiative flux, differential luminosity, and spectral luminosity, employing the well-known Novikov-Page-Thorne model. We mainly focus on the flux of the accretion disk around several rotating naked singularities possessing the same mass and quadrupole moment but different rotation and deformation parameters. We analyze the possibility of distinguishing Kerr black holes from rotating naked singularities. The astrophysical implications of the results obtained are discussed.
