First Thin-Film Lithium Tantalate Polarization Controller Enabling Reset-Free Mrad/s Tracking for Optical Interconnects

The rapid escalation of computing power driven by large-scale artificial intelligence is placing unprecedented demands on the bandwidth, latency, and energy efficiency of data-center interconnects (DCIs). Self-homodyne coherent (SHC) transmission is a promising architecture because it preserves the spectral efficiency of coherent detection while greatly simplifying digital signal processing, but its practical deployment is critically limited by random and often ultrafast state-of-polarization (SOP) fluctuations that induce carrier fading and destabilize coherent reception. Here we report the first integrated polarization controller based on thin-film lithium tantalate (TFLT), enabling reset-free polarization tracking at Mrad/s speeds. The four-stage electro-optic device exhibits polarization-dependent loss (PDL) below 0.3 dB, a half-wave voltage below 2.5 V, high modulation bandwidth, and negligible DC drift. To accommodate the finite tuning range of integrated phase shifters, we develop a finite-boundary gradient-descent (FBGD) control algorithm that ensures reset-free SOP evolution with no phase jump. The implemented adaptive polarization controller (APC) is validated through both standalone polarization-tracking measurements and a dual-polarization 16-QAM SHC 400-Gbps transmission system. Transient polarization disturbances can be tracked at speeds up to 2 Mrad/s, while stable reset-free operation under continuous polarization disturbances is maintained up to 1 Mrad/s. This reset-free performance represents more than doubling the state of the art, while the pre-FEC bit-error rates remain below the HD-FEC threshold under realistic DCI conditions and lightning-scale polarization disturbances. These results establish TFLT as a new platform for ultrafast, low-power, reset-free, and drift-free polarization control in coherent optical interconnects and beyond.

COMPARE: Clinical Optimization with Modular Planning and Assessment via RAG-Enhanced AI-OCT: Superior Decision Support for Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Compared to ChatGPT-5 and Junior Operators

Background: While intravascular imaging, particularly optical coherence tomography (OCT), improves percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) outcomes, its interpretation is operator-dependent. General-purpose artificial intelligence (AI) shows promise but lacks domain-specific reliability. We evaluated the performance of CA-GPT, a novel large model deployed on an AI-OCT system, against that of the general-purpose ChatGPT-5 and junior physicians for OCT-guided PCI planning and assessment. Methods: In this single-center analysis of 96 patients who underwent OCT-guided PCI, the procedural decisions generated by the CA-GPT, ChatGPT-5, and junior physicians were compared with an expert-derived procedural record. Agreement was assessed using ten pre-specified metrics across pre-PCI and post-PCI phases. Results: For pre-PCI planning, CA-GPT demonstrated significantly higher median agreement scores (5[IQR 3.75-5]) compared to both ChatGPT-5 (3[2-4], P<0.001) and junior physicians (4[3-4], P<0.001). CA-GPT significantly outperformed ChatGPT-5 across all individual pre-PCI metrics and showed superior performance to junior physicians in stent diameter (90.3% vs. 72.2%, P<0.05) and length selection (80.6% vs. 52.8%, P<0.01). In post-PCI assessment, CA-GPT maintained excellent overall agreement (5[4.75-5]), significantly higher than both ChatGPT-5 (4[4-5], P<0.001) and junior physicians (5[4-5], P<0.05). Subgroup analysis confirmed CA-GPT's robust performance advantage in complex scenarios. Conclusion: The CA-GPT-based AI-OCT system achieved superior decision-making agreement versus a general-purpose large language model and junior physicians across both PCI planning and assessment phases. This approach provides a standardized and reliable method for intravascular imaging interpretation, demonstrating significant potential to augment operator expertise and optimize OCT-guided PCI.

A Survey of Operating System Kernel Fuzzing

The Operating System (OS) kernel is foundational in modern computing, especially with the proliferation of diverse computing devices. However, its development also comes with vulnerabilities that can lead to severe security breaches. Kernel fuzzing, a technique used to uncover these vulnerabilities, poses distinct challenges when compared to user-space fuzzing. These include the complexity of configuring the testing environment and addressing the statefulness inherent to both the kernel and the fuzzing process. Despite the significant interest from the community, a comprehensive understanding of kernel fuzzing remains lacking, hindering further progress in the field. In this paper, we present the first systematic study focused specifically on OS kernel fuzzing. We begin by outlining the unique challenges of kernel fuzzing, which distinguish it from those in user space. Following this, we summarize the progress of 107 academic studies from top-tier venues between 2017 and 2025. To structure this analysis, we introduce a stage-based fuzzing model and a novel fuzzing taxonomy that highlights nine core functionalities unique to kernel fuzzing. Each of these functionalities is examined in conjunction with the methodological approaches employed to address them. Finally, we identify remaining gaps in addressing challenges and outline promising directions to guide forthcoming research in kernel security.

Robust and Hyper-Efficient Multi-dimensional Optical Fiber Semantic Communication

The growing demands of artificial intelligence and immersive media require communication beyond bit-level accuracy to meaning awareness. Conventional optical systems that focused on syntactic precision suffer significant inefficiencies. Here, we introduce a multi-dimensional semantic communication framework that bridges this gap by directly mapping high-level semantic features onto the orthogonal physical dimensions of light, frequency, polarization, and intensity, within a multimode fiber. This synergistic co-design of semantic logic and the photonic channel achieve an unprecedented equivalent spectral efficiency approaching 1000 bit/s/Hz. Moreover, it demonstrates profound resilience, maintaining high-fidelity reconstruction even when the physical-layer symbol error rate exceeds 36%, a condition under which conventional communication systems fail completely. Crucially, this deeply integrated co-design of semantic encoding and physical-layer modulation enables full semantic demodulation with only single-ended intensity detection, therefore significantly reducing system complexity and cost. This work establishes a validated pathway toward hyper-efficient, error-resilient optical networks for the next generation of data-intensive computing.

Anti-Degeneracy Scheme for Lidar SLAM based on Particle Filter in Geometry Feature-Less Environments

Simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) based on particle filtering has been extensively employed in indoor scenarios due to its high efficiency. However, in geometry feature-less scenes, the accuracy is severely reduced due to lack of constraints. In this article, we propose an anti-degeneracy system based on deep learning. Firstly, we design a scale-invariant linear mapping to convert coordinates in continuous space into discrete indexes, in which a data augmentation method based on Gaussian model is proposed to ensure the model performance by effectively mitigating the impact of changes in the number of particles on the feature distribution. Secondly, we develop a degeneracy detection model using residual neural networks (ResNet) and transformer which is able to identify degeneracy by scrutinizing the distribution of the particle population. Thirdly, an adaptive anti-degeneracy strategy is designed, which first performs fusion and perturbation on the resample process to provide rich and accurate initial values for the pose optimization, and use a hierarchical pose optimization combining coarse and fine matching, which is able to adaptively adjust the optimization frequency and the sensor trustworthiness according to the degree of degeneracy, in order to enhance the ability of searching the global optimal pose. Finally, we demonstrate the optimality of the model, as well as the improvement of the image matrix method and GPU on the computation time through ablation experiments, and verify the performance of the anti-degeneracy system in different scenarios through simulation experiments and real experiments. Robot-assisted Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (Robo-TMS): A Review

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive and safe brain stimulation procedure with growing applications in clinical treatments and neuroscience research. However, achieving precise stimulation over prolonged sessions poses significant challenges. By integrating advanced robotics with conventional TMS, robot-assisted TMS (Robo-TMS) has emerged as a promising solution to enhance efficacy and streamline procedures. Despite growing interest, a comprehensive review from an engineering perspective has been notably absent. This paper systematically examines four critical aspects of Robo-TMS: hardware and integration, calibration and registration, neuronavigation systems, and control systems. We review state-of-the-art technologies in each area, identify current limitations, and propose future research directions. Our findings suggest that broader clinical adoption of Robo-TMS is currently limited by unverified clinical applicability, high operational complexity, and substantial implementation costs. Emerging technologies, including marker-less tracking, non-rigid registration, learning-based electric field (E-field) modelling, individualised magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) generation, robot-assisted multi-locus TMS (Robo-mTMS), and automated calibration and registration, present promising pathways to address these challenges.

A Survey on Remote Sensing Foundation Models: From Vision to Multimodality

The rapid advancement of remote sensing foundation models, particularly vision and multimodal models, has significantly enhanced the capabilities of intelligent geospatial data interpretation. These models combine various data modalities, such as optical, radar, and LiDAR imagery, with textual and geographic information, enabling more comprehensive analysis and understanding of remote sensing data. The integration of multiple modalities allows for improved performance in tasks like object detection, land cover classification, and change detection, which are often challenged by the complex and heterogeneous nature of remote sensing data. However, despite these advancements, several challenges remain. The diversity in data types, the need for large-scale annotated datasets, and the complexity of multimodal fusion techniques pose significant obstacles to the effective deployment of these models. Moreover, the computational demands of training and fine-tuning multimodal models require significant resources, further complicating their practical application in remote sensing image interpretation tasks. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art in vision and multimodal foundation models for remote sensing, focusing on their architecture, training methods, datasets and application scenarios. We discuss the key challenges these models face, such as data alignment, cross-modal transfer learning, and scalability, while also identifying emerging research directions aimed at overcoming these limitations. Our goal is to provide a clear understanding of the current landscape of remote sensing foundation models and inspire future research that can push the boundaries of what these models can achieve in real-world applications. Beyond Tree Models: A Hybrid Model of KAN and gMLP for Large-Scale Financial Tabular Data

Tabular data plays a critical role in real-world financial scenarios. Traditionally, tree models have dominated in handling tabular data. However, financial datasets in the industry often encounter some challenges, such as data heterogeneity, the predominance of numerical features and the large scale of the data, which can range from tens of millions to hundreds of millions of records. These challenges can lead to significant memory and computational issues when using tree-based models. Consequently, there is a growing need for neural network-based solutions that can outperform these models. In this paper, we introduce TKGMLP, an hybrid network for tabular data that combines shallow Kolmogorov Arnold Networks with Gated Multilayer Perceptron. This model leverages the strengths of both architectures to improve performance and scalability. We validate TKGMLP on a real-world credit scoring dataset, where it achieves state-of-the-art results and outperforms current benchmarks. Furthermore, our findings demonstrate that the model continues to improve as the dataset size increases, making it highly scalable. Additionally, we propose a novel feature encoding method for numerical data, specifically designed to address the predominance of numerical features in financial datasets. The integration of this feature encoding method within TKGMLP significantly improves prediction accuracy. This research not only advances table prediction technology but also offers a practical and effective solution for handling large-scale numerical tabular data in various industrial applications.

Pushing DSP-Free Coherent Interconnect to the Last Inch by Optically Analog Signal Processing

To support the boosting interconnect capacity of the AI-related data centers, novel techniques enabled high-speed and low-cost optics are continuously emerging. When the baud rate approaches 200 GBaud per lane, the bottle-neck of traditional intensity modulation direct detection (IM-DD) architectures becomes increasingly evident. The simplified coherent solutions are widely discussed and considered as one of the most promising candidates. In this paper, a novel coherent architecture based on self-homodyne coherent detection and optically analog signal processing (OASP) is demonstrated. Proved by experiment, the first DSP-free baud-rate sampled 64-GBaud QPSK/16-QAM receptions are achieved, with BERs of 1e-6 and 2e-2, respectively. Even with 1-km fiber link propagation, the BER for QPSK reception remains at 3.6e-6. When an ultra-simple 1-sps SISO filter is utilized, the performance degradation of the proposed scheme is less than 1 dB compared to legacy DSP-based coherent reception. The proposed results pave the way for the ultra-high-speed coherent optical interconnections, offering high power and cost efficiency.

Quantum-Secured DSP-Lite Data Transmission Architectures for AI-Driven Data Centres

Artificial intelligence-driven (AI-driven) data centres, which require high-performance, scalable, energy-efficient, and secure infrastructure, have led to unprecedented data traffic demands. These demands involve low latency, high bandwidth connections, low power consumption, and data confidentiality. However, conventional optical interconnect solutions, such as intensity-modulated direct detection and traditional coherent systems, cannot address these requirements simultaneously. In particular, conventional encryption protocols that rely on complex algorithms are increasingly vulnerable to the rapid advancement of quantum computing. Here, we propose and demonstrate a quantum-secured digital signal processing-lite (DSP-Lite) data transmission architecture that meets all the stringent requirements for AI-driven data centre optical interconnects (AI-DCIs) scenarios. By integrating a self-homodyne coherent (SHC) system and quantum key distribution (QKD) through the multicore-fibre-based space division multiplexing (SDM) technology, our scheme enables secure, high-capacity, and energy-efficient data transmission while ensuring resilience against quantum computing threats. In our demonstration, we achieved an expandable transmission capacity of 2 Tbit per second (Tb/s) and a quantum secret key rate (SKR) of 229.2 kb/s, with a quantum bit error rate (QBER) of approximately 1.27% and with ultralow power consumption. Our work paves the way for constructing secure, scalable, and cost-efficient data transmission frameworks, thus enabling the next generation of intelligent, leak-proof optical interconnects for data centres.

Multimode fiber based high-dimensional light analyzer

The wavelength and state of polarization (SOP) are fundamental properties of an optical field which are essential for applications in optical communications, imaging and other fields. However, it is challenging for existing spectrometers and polarimeters to measure these parameters simultaneously, resulting in reduced spatial and temporal efficiency. To overcome this limitation, we propose and demonstrate a compact multimode fiber (MMF)-based high-dimensional light analyzer capable of simultaneously performing high-precision measurements of both wavelength and SOP. Core-offset launching is introduced in the MMF to reshuffle the mode coupling. A neural network named WP-Net has been designed dedicated to wavelength and SOP synchronization measurements. Physics-informed loss function based on optical prior knowledge is used to optimize the learning process. These advancements have enhanced the sensitivity, achieving a wavelength resolution of 0.045 pm and an SOP resolution of 0.0088.

Direct and inverse problems for a third-order self-adjoint differential operator with non-local potential functions

The direct and inverse problems for a third-order self-adjoint differential operator with non-local potential functions are considered. Firstly, the multiplicity for eigenvalues of the operator is analyzed, and it is proved that the differential operator has simple eigenvalues, except for finitely many eigenvalues of multiplicity two or three. Then the expressions of eigenfunctions and resolvent are obtained. Finally, the inverse problem for recovering non-local potential functions is solved.

Effects of fractional diffraction on nonlinear PT phase transitions and stability of dark solitons and vortices

The wave propagation under the action of fractional diffraction has recently drawn increasing attention in nonlinear optics. Here, we address the effect of fractional diffraction on the existence, phase transitions, and stability of dark solitons (DSs) and vortices in parity-time (PT) symmetric graded-index waveguide with self-defocusing nonlinearity. The DSs and vortices are produced by numerical solution of the corresponding one- and two-dimensional fractional nonlinear Schrödinger equations. We show that solution branches of fundamental and higher-order DSs collide pair-wise (merge) and disappear with the increase of the gain-loss strength, revealing nonlinear PT phase transitions in the waveguide. Numerically identifying the merger points, we demonstrate effects of the fractional diffraction on the phase transition. The phase transition points determine boundaries of existence regions for the DSs and vortices. The stability of the DSs and vortices is studied by means of the linearization with respect to small perturbations. Direct simulations of perturbed evolution corroborate their stability properties predicted by the analysis of small perturbations.

Order Optimal Cascaded Code Distributed Computing With Low Complexity and Improved Flexibility

Coded distributed computing (CDC), proposed by Li \emph{et al.}, offers significant potential for reducing the communication load in MapReduce computing systems. In cascaded CDC with $K$ nodes, $N$ input files, and $Q$ output functions, each input file will be mapped by $r\geq 1$ nodes and each output function will be computed by $s>1$ nodes such that coding techniques can be applied to generate multicast opportunities. However, a significant limitation of most existing coded distributed computing schemes is their requirement to split the original data into a large number of input files (or output functions) that grows exponentially with $K$, which significantly increases the coding complexity and degrades the system performance. In this paper, we focus on the case of $K/s\in\mathbb{N}$, deliberately designing the strategy of data placement and output functions assignment, such that a low-complexity CDC scheme is achievable. The main advantages of the proposed scheme include: 1) the multicast gains equal to $(r+s-1)(1-1/s)$ and $r+s-1$ which is approximately $r+s-1$ when $s$ is relatively large, and the communication load potentially better than the well-known scheme proposed by Li \emph{et al.}; 2) the proposed scheme requires significantly less input files and output functions; 3) all the operations are implemented over the binary field $\mathbb{F}_2$ with the one-shot fashion (i.e., each node can decode its requested content immediately upon receiving the multicast message during the current time slot). Finally, we derive a new information-theoretic converse bound for the cascaded CDC framework under the proposed strategies of data placement and output functions assignment. We demonstrate that the communication load of the proposed scheme is order optimal within a factor of $2$; and is also approximately optimal when $K$ is sufficiently large for a given $r$.

AIGT: AI Generative Table Based on Prompt

Tabular data, which accounts for over 80% of enterprise data assets, is vital in various fields. With growing concerns about privacy protection and data-sharing restrictions, generating high-quality synthetic tabular data has become essential. Recent advancements show that large language models (LLMs) can effectively gener-ate realistic tabular data by leveraging semantic information and overcoming the challenges of high-dimensional data that arise from one-hot encoding. However, current methods do not fully utilize the rich information available in tables. To address this, we introduce AI Generative Table (AIGT) based on prompt enhancement, a novel approach that utilizes meta data information, such as table descriptions and schemas, as prompts to generate ultra-high quality synthetic data. To overcome the token limit constraints of LLMs, we propose long-token partitioning algorithms that enable AIGT to model tables of any scale. AIGT achieves state-of-the-art performance on 14 out of 20 public datasets and two real industry datasets within the Alipay risk control system.

Detecting and Measuring Security Implications of Entangled Domain Verification in CDN

Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) offer a protection layer for enhancing the security of websites. However, a significant security flaw named Absence of Domain Verification (DVA) has become emerging recently. Although this threat is recognized, the current practices and security flaws of domain verification strategies in CDNs have not been thoroughly investigated. In this paper, we present DVAHunter, an automated system for detecting DVA vulnerabilities that can lead to domain abuse in CDNs. Our evaluation of 45 major CDN providers reveals the prevalence of DVA: most (39/45) providers do not perform any verification, and even those that do remain exploitable. Additionally, we used DVAHunter to conduct a large-scale measurement of 89M subdomains from Tranco's Top 1M sites hosted on the 45 CDNs under evaluation. Our focus was on two primary DVA exploitation scenarios: covert communication and domain hijacking. We identified over 332K subdomains vulnerable to domain abuse. This tool provides deeper insights into DVA exploitation and allows us to propose viable mitigation practices for CDN providers. To date, we have received vulnerability confirmations from 12 providers; 6 (e.g., Edgio, Kuocai) have implemented fixes, and 1 (ChinaNetCenter) are actively working on solutions based on our recommendations.

Optical Semantic Communication through Multimode Fiber: From Symbol Transmission to Sentiment Analysis

We propose and validate a novel optical semantic transmission scheme using multimode fiber (MMF). By leveraging the frequency sensitivity of intermodal dispersion in MMFs, we achieve high-dimensional semantic encoding and decoding in the frequency domain. Our system maps symbols to 128 distinct frequencies spaced at 600 kHz intervals, demonstrating a seven-fold increase in capacity compared to conventional communication encoding. We further enhance spectral efficiency by implementing 4-level pulse amplitude modulation (PAM-4), achieving 9.12 bits/s/Hz without decoding errors. Additionally, we explore the application of this system for sentiment analysis using the IMDb movie review dataset. By encoding semantically similar symbols to adjacent frequencies, the system's noise tolerance is effectively improved, facilitating accurate sentiment analysis. This work highlights the potential of MMF-based semantic communication to enhance both capacity and robustness in optical communication systems, offering promising applications in bandwidth-constrained and noisy environments.

Context-Enhanced Detector For Building Detection From Remote Sensing Images

The field of building detection from remote sensing images has made significant progress, but faces challenges in achieving high-accuracy detection due to the diversity in building appearances and the complexity of vast scenes. To address these challenges, we propose a novel approach called Context-Enhanced Detector (CEDet). Our approach utilizes a three-stage cascade structure to enhance the extraction of contextual information and improve building detection accuracy. Specifically, we introduce two modules: the Semantic Guided Contextual Mining (SGCM) module, which aggregates multi-scale contexts and incorporates an attention mechanism to capture long-range interactions, and the Instance Context Mining Module (ICMM), which captures instance-level relationship context by constructing a spatial relationship graph and aggregating instance features. Additionally, we introduce a semantic segmentation loss based on pseudo-masks to guide contextual information extraction. Our method achieves state-of-the-art performance on three building detection benchmarks, including CNBuilding-9P, CNBuilding-23P, and SpaceNet.
