Angular analysis of $B \to K^* e^+ e^-$ in the low-$q^2$ region with new electron identification at Belle

We perform an angular analysis of the $B\to K^* e^+ e^-$ decay for the dielectron mass squared, $q^2$, range of $0.0008$ to $1.1200 ~\text{GeV}^2 /c^4$ using the full Belle data set in the $K^{*0} \to K^+ \pi^-$ and $K^{*+} \to K_S^0 \pi^+$ channels, incorporating new methods of electron identification to improve the statistical power of the data set. This analysis is sensitive to contributions from right-handed currents from physics beyond the Standard Model by constraining the Wilson coefficients $\mathcal{C}_7^{(\prime)}$. We perform a fit to the $B\to K^* e^+ e^-$ differential decay rate and measure the imaginary component of the transversality amplitude to be $A_T^{\rm Im} = -1.27 \pm 0.52 \pm 0.12$, and the $K^*$ transverse asymmetry to be $A_T^{(2)} = 0.52 \pm 0.53 \pm 0.11$, with $F_L$ and $A_T^{\rm Re}$ fixed to the Standard Model values. The resulting constraints on the value of $\mathcal{C}_7^{\prime}$ are consistent with the Standard Model within a $2\sigma$ confidence interval.

Topological Symmetry Groups of the Generalized Petersen Graphs

The topological symmetry group $\mathrm{TSG}(\Gamma)$ of an embedding $\Gamma$ of a graph in $S^3$ is the subgroup of the automorphism group of the graph which is induced by homeomorphisms of $(S^3,\Gamma)$. If we restrict to orientation preserving homeomorphisms then we obtain the orientation preserving topological symmetry group $\mathrm{TSG}_+(\Gamma)$. In this paper we determine all groups that can be $\mathrm{TSG}(\Gamma)$ or $\mathrm{TSG}_+(\Gamma)$ for some embedding $\Gamma$ of a generalized Petersen graph other than the exceptional graphs $P(12,5)$ and $P(24, 5)$ (which will be addressed in a separate paper.

Measurement of the Ratio of Partial Branching Fractions of Inclusive $\overline{B} \to X_u \ell \overline{\nu}$ to $\overline{B} \to X_{c} \ell \overline{\nu}$ and the Ratio of their Spectra with Hadronic Tagging

We present a measurement of the ratio of partial branching fractions of the semi-leptonic inclusive decays, $\overline{B} \to X_{u} \ell \overline{\nu}$ to $\overline{B} \to X_{c} \ell \overline{\nu}$, where $\ell = (e, \mu)$, using the full Belle sample of $772 \times 10^{6}$ $B \kern 0.18em\overline{\kern -0.18em B}$ pairs collected at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance. The ratio is measured via a two-dimensional fit to the squared four-momentum transfer to the lepton pair, and the charged lepton energy in the $B$ meson rest frame, where the latter must be larger than $1$ Ge\kern -0.1em V, covering approximately $86\%$ and $78\%$ of the $\overline{B} \to X_{u} \ell \overline{\nu}$ and $\overline{B} \to X_{c} \ell \overline{\nu}$ phase space, respectively. We find $\Delta \mathcal{B}(\overline{B} \to X_{u} \ell \overline{\nu})/ \Delta \mathcal{B}(\overline{B} \to X_{c} \ell \overline{\nu}) = (1.99 \pm 0.17_{\rm stat} \pm 0.16_{\rm syst}) \times 10^{-2}$ where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. In addition, we report the partial branching fractions separately for charged and neutral $B$ meson decays, and for electron and muon decay channels. We place a limit on isospin breaking in $\overline{B} \to X_{u} \ell \overline{\nu}$ decays, and find no indication of lepton flavor universality violation in either the charmed or charmless mode. Furthermore, we unfold the $\overline{B} \to X_{u} \ell \overline{\nu}$ and $\overline{B} \to X_{c} \ell \overline{\nu}$ yields and report the differential ratio in lepton energy and four-momentum transfer squared.

Measurement of Angular Coefficients of $\bar{B} \to D^* \ell \bar{\nu}_\ell$: Implications for $|V_{cb}|$ and Tests of Lepton Flavor Universality

We measure the complete set of angular coefficients $J_i$ for exclusive $\bar{B} \to D^* \ell \bar{\nu}_\ell$ decays ($\ell = e, \mu$). Our analysis uses the full $711\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ Belle data set with hadronic tag-side reconstruction. The results allow us to extract the form factors describing the $B \to D^*$ transition and the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{\rm cb}|$. Using recent lattice QCD calculations for the hadronic form factors, we find $|V_{\rm cb}| = (41.0 \pm 0.7) \times 10^3 $ using the BGL parameterization, compatible with determinations from inclusive semileptonic decays. We search for lepton flavor universality violation as a function of the hadronic recoil parameter $w$, and investigate the differences of the electron and muon angular distributions. We find no deviation from Standard Model expectations.

Search for charged-lepton flavor violation in $\Upsilon(2S) \to \ell^\mp\tau^\pm$ ($\ell=e,\mu$) decays at Belle

We report a search for the charged-lepton flavor violation in $\Upsilon(2S) \to \ell^\mp\tau^\pm$ ($\ell=e,\mu$) decays using a $25~\fbi$ $\Upsilon(2S)$ sample collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^{+}$$e^-$ asymmetric-energy collider. We find no evidence for a signal and set upper limits on the branching fractions ($\mathcal{B}$) at 90\% confidence level. We obtain the most stringent upper limits: $\mathcal{B}(\Ytomutau) < 0.23 \times 10^{-6}$ and $\mathcal{B}(\Ytoetau) < 1.12 \times 10^{-6}$.

Observation of charmed strange meson pair production in $\Upsilon(2S)$ decays and in $e^{+}e^{-}$ annihilation at $\sqrt{s} = 10.52~ \rm{GeV}$

We observe the process $\Upsilon(2S)\to D_s^{(*)+} D_{sJ}^{-}$ and continuum production $e^+e^- \to D_s^{(*)+} D_{sJ}^- $ at $\sqrt{s} = 10.52$ GeV (and their charge conjugates) using the data samples collected by the Belle detector at KEKB, where $D_{sJ}^-$ is $D_{s1}(2536)^-$ or $D^{*}_{s2}(2573)^-$. Both $D_{sJ}^-$ states are identified through their decay into $\bar{K}\bar{D}^{(*)}$. We measure the products of branching fractions ${\cal B}(\Upsilon(2S) \to D_{s}^{(*)+} D_{sJ}^-) {\cal B}(D_{sJ}^-\to \bar{K} \bar{D}^{(*)})$ and the Born cross sections $\sigma^{\rm Born}(e^+e^- \to D_{s}^{(*)+} D_{sJ}^-) {\cal B}(D_{sJ}^-\to \bar{K} \bar{D}^{(*)})$, and then compare the ratios $R_1 \equiv {\cal B}(\Upsilon(2S)\to D_{s}^{(*)+} D_{sJ}^-)/{\cal B}(\Upsilon(2S)\to\mu^{+}\mu^-)$ for $\Upsilon(2S)$ decays and $R_2 \equiv \sigma^{\rm Born}(e^+e^-\to D_{s}^{(*)+}D_{sJ}^-)/\sigma^{\rm Born}(e^+e^-\to \mu^{+}\mu^-)$ for continuum production. We obtain $R_1/R_2 = 9.7\pm 2.3 \pm 1.1$, $6.8 \pm 2.1 \pm 0.8$, $10.2 \pm 3.3 \pm 2.5$, and $3.4 \pm 2.1 \pm 0.5$ for the $D_s^+ D_{s1}(2536)^-$, $D_s^{*+} D_{s1}(2536)^-$, $D_s^+ D_{s2}^{*}(2573)^{-}$, and $D_s^{*+} D_{s2}^{*}(2573)^{-}$ final states in the $D_{sJ}^-\to K^{-} \bar{D}^{(*)0}$ modes, respectively. Therefore, the strong decay is expected to dominate in the $\Upsilon(2S)\to D_{s}^{(*)+}D_{sJ}^-$ processes. We also measure the ratios of branching fractions ${\cal B}(D_{s1}(2536)^-\to K_S^0 D^{*}(2010)^{-})/{\cal B}(D_{s1}(2536)^-\to K^{-} D^{*}(2007)^0) = 0.48 \pm 0.07 \pm 0.02$ and ${\cal B}(D_{s2}^{*}(2573)^- \to K_S^0 D^-)/{\cal B}(D_{s2}^{*}(2573)^- \to K^{-}D^0) = 0.49 \pm 0.10 \pm 0.02$, which are consistent with isospin symmetry. The second ratio is the first measurement of this quantity. Here, the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic.

Combining multitemporal optical and SAR data for LAI imputation with BiLSTM network

The Leaf Area Index (LAI) is vital for predicting winter wheat yield. Acquisition of crop conditions via Sentinel-2 remote sensing images can be hindered by persistent clouds, affecting yield predictions. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) provides all-weather imagery, and the ratio between its cross- and co-polarized channels (C-band) shows a high correlation with time series LAI over winter wheat regions. This study evaluates the use of time series Sentinel-1 VH/VV for LAI imputation, aiming to increase spatial-temporal density. We utilize a bidirectional LSTM (BiLSTM) network to impute time series LAI and use half mean squared error for each time step as the loss function. We trained models on data from southern Germany and the North China Plain using only LAI data generated by Sentinel-1 VH/VV and Sentinel-2. Experimental results show BiLSTM outperforms traditional regression methods, capturing nonlinear dynamics between multiple time series. It proves robust in various growing conditions and is effective even with limited Sentinel-2 images. BiLSTM's performance surpasses that of LSTM, particularly over the senescence period. Therefore, BiLSTM can be used to impute LAI with time-series Sentinel-1 VH/VV and Sentinel-2 data, and this method could be applied to other time-series imputation issues.

Acceptance tests of Hamamatsu R7081 photomultiplier tubes

Photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) are traditionally an integral part of large underground experiments as they measure the light emission from particle interactions within the enclosed detection media. The BUTTON experiment will utilise around 100 PMTs to measure the response of different media suitable for rare event searches. A subset of low-radioactivity 10-inch Hamamatsu R7081 PMTs were tested, characterised, and compared to manufacture certification. This manuscript describes the laboratory tests and analysis of gain, peak-to-valley ratio and dark rate of the PMTs to give an understanding of the charge response, signal-to-noise ratio and dark noise background as an acceptance test of the suitability of these PMTs for water-based detectors. Following the evaluation of these tests, the PMT performance agreed with the manufacturer specifications. These results are imperative for modeling the PMT response in detector simulations and providing confidence in the performance of the devices once installed in the detector underground.

Search for a heavy neutrino in $\tau$ decays at Belle

We report on a search for a heavy neutrino in the decays $\tau^- \to \pi^- \nu_h$, $\nu_h \to \pi^\pm \ell-+$, $\ell = e, \mu$. The results are obtained using the full data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy $e^+e^-$ collider. We observe no significant signal and set 90% CL upper limits on the couplings of the heavy right-handed neutrinos to the conventional SM left-handed neutrinos in the mass range 0.2-1.6 GeV/c$^2$.

Measurement of the mass and width of the $\Lambda_c(2625)^+$ and the branching ratios of $\Lambda_c(2625)^+ \to \Sigma_c^{0}\pi^{+}$ and $\Lambda_c(2625)^+ \to \Sigma_c^{++}\pi^{-}$

Using the entire data sample of $980\,\textrm{fb}^{-1}$ collected with the Belle detector operating at the KEKB asymmetric-energy collider, we report the measurement of the mass, width, and the relative branching ratios of the $\Lambda_c(2625)^+$ charmed baryon. The mass difference between $\Lambda_c(2625)^+$ and $\Lambda_c^+$ is measured to be $M(\Lambda_c(2625)^{+}) - M(\Lambda_c^{+}) = 341.518 \pm 0.006 \pm 0.049\ \mathrm{MeV}/\mathit{c}^2$. The upper limit on the width is measured to be $\Gamma(\Lambda_c(2625)^+) < 0.52\,\mathrm{MeV}/\textit{c}^2$ at 90\% credibility level. Based on a full Dalitz plot fit, branching ratios with respect to the mode $\Lambda_c(2625)^+ \to \Lambda_c^+ \pi^+ \pi^-$ are measured to be $\frac{\mathcal{B}(\Lambda_c(2625)^+ \to \Sigma_c^{0} \pi^{+})} {\mathcal{B}(\Lambda_c(2625)^+ \to \Lambda_c^+ \pi^{+} \pi^{-})} = (5.19 \pm 0.23 \pm 0.40) \%$ and $\frac{\mathcal{B}(\Lambda_c(2625)^+ \to \Sigma_c^{++} \pi^{-})} {\mathcal{B}(\Lambda_c(2625)^+ \to \Lambda_c^+ \pi^{+} \pi^{-})} = (5.13 \pm 0.26 \pm 0.32) \%$. These measurements can be used to further constrain the parameters of the underlying theoretical models.

First Observation of $\Lambda\pi^+$ and $\Lambda\pi^-$ Signals near the $\bar{K}N (I=1)$ Mass Threshold in $\Lambda_c^+\rightarrow\Lambda\pi^+\pi^+\pi^-$ Decay

Using the data sample of 980 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the Belle detector operating at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider, we present the results of an investigation of the $\Lambda\pi^+$ and $\Lambda\pi^-$ invariant mass distributions looking for substructure in the decay $\Lambda_c^+\rightarrow\Lambda\pi^+\pi^+\pi^-$. We find a significant signal in each mass dis\ tribution. When interpreted as resonances, we find for the $\Lambda\pi^+$ ($\Lambda\pi^-$) combination a mass of $1434.3 \pm 0.6 (\mathrm{stat}) \pm 0.9(\mathrm{syst})$ MeV/$c^2$ [$1438.5 \pm 0.9 (\mathrm{stat}) \pm 2.5(\mathrm{syst})$ MeV/$c^2$], an intrinsic width of $11.5 \pm 2.8 (\mathrm{stat}) \pm 5.3(\mathrm{syst})$ MeV/$c^2$ [$33.0 \pm 7.5 (\mathrm{stat}) \pm 23.6(\mathrm{syst})$ MeV/$c^2$] with a significance of 7.5$\sigma$ (6.2$\sigma$). As these two signals are very close to the $\bar{K}N$ threshold, we also investigate the possibility of a $\bar{K}N$ cusp, and find that \ we cannot discriminate between these two interpretations due to the limited size of the data sample.

Study of $e^+e^- \rightarrow \Sigma^0 \overline{\Sigma}{}^0$ and $\Sigma^+\overline{\Sigma}{}^- $ by Initial State Radiation Method at Belle

The processes $ e^+e^-\rightarrow \Sigma^0\overline{\Sigma}{}^0 $ and $ e^+e^-\rightarrow\Sigma^+\overline{\Sigma}{}^-$ are studied using initial-state-radiation events in a sample of 980 $\,\mbox{fb}^{-1}$ collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $ e^+e^- $ collider. The cross sections from the mass threshold to $ 3{\mathrm{\,Ge\kern -0.1em V\!/}c^2} $ and the effective form factors of $ \Sigma^0 $ and $ \Sigma^+ $ are measured. In the charmonium region, we observe the decays $J/\psi\rightarrow\Sigma^0\overline{\Sigma}{}^0$ and $J/\psi\rightarrow\Sigma^+\overline{\Sigma}{}^-$ and determine the respective branching fractions.

Measurement of the $B^+/B^0$ production ratio in $e^+e^-$ collisions at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance using $B \rightarrow J/\psi(\ell\ell) K$ decays at Belle

We measure the ratio of branching fractions for the $\Upsilon (4S)$ decays to $B^+B^-$ and $B^0\bar{B}{}^0$ using $B^+ \rightarrow J/\psi(\ell\ell) K^+$ and $B^0 \rightarrow J/\psi(\ell\ell) K^0$ samples, where $J/\psi(\ell\ell)$ stands for $J/\psi \to \ell^+\ell^-$ ($\ell = e$ or $\mu$), with $711$ fb$^{-1}$ of data collected at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector. We find the decay rate ratio of $\Upsilon(4S) \rightarrow B^+B^-$ over $\Upsilon(4S) \rightarrow B^0\bar{B}{}^0$ to be $1.065\pm0.012\pm 0.019 \pm 0.047$, which is the most precise measurement to date. The first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively, and the third uncertainty is systematic due to the assumption of isospin symmetry in $B \to J/\psi(\ell\ell) K$.

The study of $\gamma\gamma\to\gamma\psi(2S)$ at Belle

Using $980~\rm fb^{-1}$ of data on and around the $\Upsilon(nS)(n=1,2,3,4,5)$ resonances collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider, the two-photon process $\gamma\gamma\to \gamma\psi(2S)$ is studied from the threshold to $4.2~{\rm GeV}$ for the first time. Two structures are seen in the invariant mass distribution of $\gamma\psi(2S)$: one at $M_{R_1} = 3922.4\pm 6.5 \pm 2.0~{\rm MeV}/c^2$ with a width of $\Gamma_{R_1} = 22\pm 17\pm 4~{\rm MeV}$, and another at $M_{R_2} = 4014.3\pm 4.0 \pm 1.5~{\rm MeV}/c^2$ with a width of $\Gamma_{R_2} = 4\pm 11 \pm 6~{\rm MeV}$; the signals are parametrized with the incoherent sum of two Breit-Wigner functions. The first structure is consistent with the $X(3915)$ or the $\chi_{c2}(3930)$, and the local statistical significance is determined to be $3.1\sigma$ with the systematic uncertainties included. The second matches none of the known charmonium or charmoniumlike states, and its global significance is determined to be $2.8\sigma$ including the look-elsewhere effect. The production rates are $\Gamma_{\gamma\gamma}{\cal B}(R_1\to\gamma\psi(2S)) = 9.8\pm 3.6\pm 1.2~{\rm eV}$ assuming $(J^{PC}, |\lambda|) =(0^{++}, 0)$ or $2.0\pm 0.7\pm 0.2~{\rm eV}$ with $(2^{++}, 2)$ for the first structure and $\Gamma_{\gamma\gamma}{\cal B}(R_2\to\gamma\psi(2S)) = 6.2\pm 2.2\pm 0.8~{\rm eV}$ with $(0^{++}, 0)$ or $1.2\pm 0.4\pm 0.2~{\rm eV}$ with $(2^{++}, 2)$ for the second one. Here, the first errors are statistical and the second systematic, and $\lambda$ is the helicity.

Measurement of the energy dependence of the $e^+e^-\to B\bar{B}$, $B\bar{B}^*$ and $B^*\bar{B}^*$ exclusive cross sections

We report the first measurement of the exclusive cross sections $e^+e^-\to B\bar{B}$, $e^+e^-\to B\bar{B}^*$, and $e^+e^-\to B^*\bar{B}^*$ in the energy range from 10.63 GeV to 11.02 GeV. The $B$ mesons are fully reconstructed in a large number of hadronic final states and the three channels are identified using a beam-constrained-mass variable. The shapes of the exclusive cross sections show oscillatory behavior with several maxima and minima. The results are obtained using data collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider.

Study of Electromagnetic Decays of Orbitally Excited $\Xi_c$ Baryons

Using 980 $fb^-1$ of data collected with the Belle detector operating at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^+e^- collider, we report a study of the electromagnetic decays of excited {charmed baryons} $\Xi_c(2790)$ and $\Xi_c(2815)$. A clear signal (8.6 standard deviations) is observed for $\Xi_c(2815)^0 \to \Xi_c^0\gamma$, and we measure: $B[\Xi_c(2815)^0 \to \Xi_c^0\gamma]/B[\Xi_c(2815)^0 \to \Xi_c(2645)^+\pi^- \to \Xi_c^0\pi^+\pi^-] = 0.41 \pm 0.05 \pm 0.03$. We also present evidence (3.8 standard deviations) for the similar decay of the $\Xi_c(2790)^0$ and measure: $B[\Xi_c(2790)^{0}\to\Xi_c^{0}\gamma]/B[\Xi_c(2790)^0\to\Xi_c^{\prime +}\pi^{-}\to\Xi_c^{+}\gamma \pi^-] = 0.13 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.02$. The first quoted uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. We find no hint of the analogous decays of the $\Xi_c(2815)^+$ and $\Xi_c(2790)^+$ baryons and set upper limits at the 90% confidence level of: $B[\Xi_c(2815)^{+}\to\Xi_c^{+}\gamma]/B[\Xi_c(2815)^+\to\Xi_c(2645)^0\pi^+\to\Xi_c^+\pi^-\pi^+] < 0.09,$ and $B[\Xi_c(2790)^{+}\to\Xi_c^{+}\gamma]/B[\Xi_c(2790)^+\to\Xi_c^{\prime 0}\pi^{+}\to\Xi_c^{0}\gamma \pi^+] < 0.06.$ Approximate values of the partial widths of the decays are extracted, which can be used to discriminate between models of the underlying quark structure of these excited states.
