Secure and Efficient Multi-Signature Schemes for Fabric: An Enterprise Blockchain Platform

Digital signature is a major component of transactions on Blockchain platforms, especially in enterprise Blockchain platforms, where multiple signatures from a set of peers need to be produced to endorse a transaction. However, such process is often complex and time-consuming. Multi-signature, which can improve transaction efficiency by having a set of signers cooperate to produce a joint signature, has attracted extensive attentions. In this work, we propose two multi-signature schemes, GMS and AGMS, which are proved to be more secure and efficient than state-of-the-art multi-signature schemes. Besides, we implement the proposed schemes in a real Enterprise Blockchain platform, Fabric. Experiment results show that the proposed AGMS scheme helps achieve the goal of high transaction efficiency, low storage complexity, as well as high robustness against rogue-key attacks and k-sum problem attacks.

DART: Articulated Hand Model with Diverse Accessories and Rich Textures

Hand, the bearer of human productivity and intelligence, is receiving much attention due to the recent fever of digital twins. Among different hand morphable models, MANO has been widely used in vision and graphics community. However, MANO disregards textures and accessories, which largely limits its power to synthesize photorealistic hand data. In this paper, we extend MANO with Diverse Accessories and Rich Textures, namely DART. DART is composed of 50 daily 3D accessories which varies in appearance and shape, and 325 hand-crafted 2D texture maps covers different kinds of blemishes or make-ups. Unity GUI is also provided to generate synthetic hand data with user-defined settings, e.g., pose, camera, background, lighting, textures, and accessories. Finally, we release DARTset, which contains large-scale (800K), high-fidelity synthetic hand images, paired with perfect-aligned 3D labels. Experiments demonstrate its superiority in diversity. As a complement to existing hand datasets, DARTset boosts the generalization in both hand pose estimation and mesh recovery tasks. Raw ingredients (textures, accessories), Unity GUI, source code and DARTset are publicly available at dart2022.github.io

First search for the absorption of fermionic dark matter with the PandaX-4T experiment

Compared with the signature of dark matter elastic scattering off nuclei, the absorption of fermionic dark matter by nuclei opens up a new searching channel for light dark matter with a characteristic monoenergetic signal. In this Letter, we explore the $95.0$-day data from the PandaX-4T commissioning run and report the first dedicated searching results of the fermionic dark matter absorption signal through a neutral current process. No significant signal was found, and the lowest limit on the dark matter-nucleon interaction cross section is set to be $1.5\times10^{-50}$ cm$^2$ for a fermionic dark matter mass of $40$ MeV/$c^2$ with 90\% confidence level.

Multi-Scale Wavelet Transformer for Face Forgery Detection

Currently, many face forgery detection methods aggregate spatial and frequency features to enhance the generalization ability and gain promising performance under the cross-dataset scenario. However, these methods only leverage one level frequency information which limits their expressive ability. To overcome these limitations, we propose a multi-scale wavelet transformer framework for face forgery detection. Specifically, to take full advantage of the multi-scale and multi-frequency wavelet representation, we gradually aggregate the multi-scale wavelet representation at different stages of the backbone network. To better fuse the frequency feature with the spatial features, frequency-based spatial attention is designed to guide the spatial feature extractor to concentrate more on forgery traces. Meanwhile, cross-modality attention is proposed to fuse the frequency features with the spatial features. These two attention modules are calculated through a unified transformer block for efficiency. A wide variety of experiments demonstrate that the proposed method is efficient and effective for both within and cross datasets.

OAG-BERT: Towards A Unified Backbone Language Model For Academic Knowledge Services

Academic knowledge services have substantially facilitated the development of the science enterprise by providing a plenitude of efficient research tools. However, many applications highly depend on ad-hoc models and expensive human labeling to understand scientific contents, hindering deployments into real products. To build a unified backbone language model for different knowledge-intensive academic applications, we pre-train an academic language model OAG-BERT that integrates both the heterogeneous entity knowledge and scientific corpora in the Open Academic Graph (OAG) -- the largest public academic graph to date. In OAG-BERT, we develop strategies for pre-training text and entity data along with zero-shot inference techniques. In OAG-BERT, we develop strategies for pre-training text and entity data along with zero-shot inference techniques. Its zero-shot capability furthers the path to mitigate the need of expensive annotations. OAG-BERT has been deployed for real-world applications, such as the reviewer recommendation function for National Nature Science Foundation of China (NSFC) -- one of the largest funding agencies in China -- and paper tagging in AMiner. All codes and pre-trained models are available via the CogDL toolkit.

Enhanced Secure Wireless Transmission Using IRS-aided Directional Modulation

As an excellent aided communication tool, intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) can make a significant rate enhancement and coverage extension. In this paper, we present an investigation on beamforming in an IRS-aided directional modulation (DM) network. To fully explore the advantages of IRS, two beamforming methods with enhanced secrecy rate (SR) performance are proposed. The first method of maximizing secrecy rate (Max-SR) alternately optimizes confidential message (CM) beamforming vector, artificial noise (AN) beamforming vector and phase shift matrix. The first optimization vector is directly computed by the Rayleigh ratio and the last two are solved with generalized power iteration (GPI). This method is called Max-SR-GPI. To reduce the computational complexity, a new method of maximizing receive power with zero-forcing constraint (Max-RP-ZFC) of only reflecting CM and no AN is proposed. Simulation results show that the proposed two methods harvest about 30 percent rate gains over the cases of random-phase IRS and no IRS, and the proposed Max-SR-GPI performs slightly better than the Max-RP-ZFC in terms of SR, particularly in the small-large IRS.

DyStyle: Dynamic Neural Network for Multi-Attribute-Conditioned Style Editing

The semantic controllability of StyleGAN is enhanced by unremitting research. Although the existing weak supervision methods work well in manipulating the style codes along one attribute, the accuracy of manipulating multiple attributes is neglected. Multi-attribute representations are prone to entanglement in the StyleGAN latent space, while sequential editing leads to error accumulation. To address these limitations, we design a Dynamic Style Manipulation Network (DyStyle) whose structure and parameters vary by input samples, to perform nonlinear and adaptive manipulation of latent codes for flexible and precise attribute control. In order to efficient and stable optimization of the DyStyle network, we propose a Dynamic Multi-Attribute Contrastive Learning (DmaCL) method: including dynamic multi-attribute contrastor and dynamic multi-attribute contrastive loss, which simultaneously disentangle a variety of attributes from the generative image and latent space of model. As a result, our approach demonstrates fine-grained disentangled edits along multiple numeric and binary attributes. Qualitative and quantitative comparisons with existing style manipulation methods verify the superiority of our method in terms of the multi-attribute control accuracy and identity preservation without compromising photorealism.

Multi-frequency PolSAR Image Fusion Classification Based on Semantic Interactive Information and Topological Structure

Compared with the rapid development of single-frequency multi-polarization SAR image classification technology, there is less research on the land cover classification of multifrequency polarimetric SAR (MF-PolSAR) images. In addition, the current deep learning methods for MF-PolSAR classification are mainly based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs), only local spatiality is considered but the nonlocal relationship is ignored. Therefore, based on semantic interaction and nonlocal topological structure, this paper proposes the MF semantics and topology fusion network (MF-STFnet) to improve MF-PolSAR classification performance. In MF-STFnet, two kinds of classification are implemented for each band, semantic information-based (SIC) and topological property-based (TPC). They work collaboratively during MF-STFnet training, which can not only fully leverage the complementarity of bands, but also combine local and nonlocal spatial information to improve the discrimination between different categories. For SIC, the designed crossband interactive feature extraction module (CIFEM) is embedded to explicitly model the deep semantic correlation among bands, thereby leveraging the complementarity of bands to make ground objects more separable. For TPC, the graph sample and aggregate network (GraphSAGE) is employed to dynamically capture the representation of nonlocal topological relations between land cover categories. In this way, the robustness of classification can be further improved by combining nonlocal spatial information. Finally, an adaptive weighting fusion (AWF) strategy is proposed to merge inference from different bands, so as to make the MF joint classification decisions of SIC and TPC. The comparative experiments show that MF-STFnet can achieve more competitive classification performance than some state-of-the-art methods.

Graph Contrastive Learning for Anomaly Detection

Graph-based anomaly detection has been widely used for detecting malicious activities in real-world applications. Existing attempts to address this problem have thus far focused on structural feature engineering or learning in the binary classification regime. In this work, we propose to leverage graph contrastive coding and present the supervised GraphCAD model for contrasting abnormal nodes with normal ones in terms of their distances to the global context (e.g., the average of all nodes). To handle scenarios with scarce labels, we further enable GraphCAD as a self-supervised framework by designing a graph corrupting strategy for generating synthetic node labels. To achieve the contrastive objective, we design a graph neural network encoder that can infer and further remove suspicious links during message passing, as well as learn the global context of the input graph. We conduct extensive experiments on four public datasets, demonstrating that 1) GraphCAD significantly and consistently outperforms various advanced baselines and 2) its self-supervised version without fine-tuning can achieve comparable performance with its fully supervised version.

Subgraph Neighboring Relations Infomax for Inductive Link Prediction on Knowledge Graphs

Inductive link prediction for knowledge graph aims at predicting missing links between unseen entities, those not shown in training stage. Most previous works learn entity-specific embeddings of entities, which cannot handle unseen entities. Recent several methods utilize enclosing subgraph to obtain inductive ability. However, all these works only consider the enclosing part of subgraph without complete neighboring relations, which leads to the issue that partial neighboring relations are neglected, and sparse subgraphs are hard to be handled. To address that, we propose Subgraph Neighboring Relations Infomax, SNRI, which sufficiently exploits complete neighboring relations from two aspects: neighboring relational feature for node feature and neighboring relational path for sparse subgraph. To further model neighboring relations in a global way, we innovatively apply mutual information (MI) maximization for knowledge graph. Experiments show that SNRI outperforms existing state-of-art methods by a large margin on inductive link prediction task, and verify the effectiveness of exploring complete neighboring relations in a global way to characterize node features and reason on sparse subgraphs.

Flickering Buoyant Diffusion Flames in Weakly Rotatory Flows

Flickering buoyant diffusion methane flames in weakly rotatory flows were computationally and theoretically investigated. The prominent computational finding is that the flicker frequency nonlinearly increases with the rotational intensity number R (up to 0.24), which measures the relative importance of the rotational speed compared with the methane jet speed. This finding is consistent with the previous experimental observations that flame flicker is enhanced by rotatory flows within a certain extent. Based on the vortex-dynamical understanding of flickering flames that the flame flicker is caused by the periodic shedding of buoyancy-induced toroidal vortices, we formulated a scaling theory for flickering buoyant diffusion flames in weakly rotatory flows. The theory predicts that, with respect to the flicker frequency f_0 at R=0, the increase of the flicker frequency f at nonzero R obeys the scaling relation f-f_0~R^2, which agrees very well with the present computational results. In physics, the externally rotatory flow enhances the radial pressure gradient around the flame, and the significant baroclinic effect contributes an additional source for the growth of toroidal vortices so that their periodic shedding is faster.

Signal Shaping for Semantic Communication Systems with A Few Message Candidates

Semantic communications target to reliably convey the semantic meaning of messages. It is different from existing communication systems focusing on reliable bit transmission. To achieve the goal of semantic communications, we propose a signal shaping method by minimizing the semantic loss, which is measured by the pretrained bidirectional encoder representation from transformers (BERT) model. The signal set optimization problem for semantic communication systems with a few message candidates is investigated. We propose an efficient projected gradient descent method to solve the problem and prove its convergence. Simulation results show that the proposed method outperforms existing signal shaping methods in minimizing the semantic loss.

Distinguishing two-component anomalous Hall effect from topological Hall effect

In transport, the topological Hall effect (THE) presents itself as non-monotonic features (or humps and dips) in the Hall signal and is widely interpreted as a sign of chiral spin textures, like magnetic skyrmions. However, when anomalous Hall effect (AHE) is also present, the co-existence of two AHEs could give rise to similar artifacts, making it difficult to distinguish between genuine THE with AHE and two-component AHE. Here we confirm genuine THE with AHE by means of transport and magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) microscopy, in which magnetic skyrmions are directly observed, and find that genuine THE occurs in the transition region of the AHE. In sharp contrast, the artifact "THE", or two-component AHE occurs well beyond the saturation of the "AHE component" (under the false assumption of THE+AHE). Furthermore, we distinguish artifact "THE" from genuine THE by three methods: 1. Minor loops, 2. Temperature dependence, 3. Gate dependence. Minor loops of genuine THE with AHE are always within the full loop, while minor loops of the artifact "THE" may reveal a single loop that cannot fit into the "AHE component". Besides, the temperature or gate dependence of the artifact "THE" may also be accompanied by a polarity change of the "AHE component", as the non-monotonic features vanish, while the temperature dependence of genuine THE with AHE reveals no such change. Our work may help future researchers to exercise cautions and use these methods to examine carefully in order to ascertain genuine THE.

AMinerGNN: Heterogeneous Graph Neural Network for Paper Click-through Rate Prediction with Fusion Query

Paper recommendation with user-generated keyword is to suggest papers that simultaneously meet user's interests and are relevant to the input keyword. This is a recommendation task with two queries, a.k.a. user ID and keyword. However, existing methods focus on recommendation according to one query, a.k.a. user ID, and are not applicable to solving this problem. In this paper, we propose a novel click-through rate (CTR) prediction model with heterogeneous graph neural network, called AMinerGNN, to recommend papers with two queries. Specifically, AMinerGNN constructs a heterogeneous graph to project user, paper, and keyword into the same embedding space by graph representation learning. To process two queries, a novel query attentive fusion layer is designed to recognize their importances dynamically and then fuse them as one query to build a unified and end-to-end recommender system. Experimental results on our proposed dataset and online A/B tests prove the superiority of AMinerGNN.

Interference Between Molecular and Photon Field-Mediated Electron Transfer Coupling Pathways in Cavities

Cavity polaritonics is capturing the imagination of the chemistry community because of the novel opportunities it creates to direct chemistry. Electron transfer (ET) reactions are among the simplest reactions, and they also underpin bioenergetics. As such, new conceptual strategies to manipulate and direct electron flow at the nanoscale are of wide-ranging interest in biochemistry, energy science, bio-inspired materials science, and chemistry. We show that optical cavities can modulate electron transfer pathway interferences and ET rates in donor-bridge-acceptor (DBA) systems. We derive the rate for DBA electron transfer systems when they are coupled with cavity photon fields (which may be off- or on-resonance with a molecular electronic transition), emphasizing novel cavity-induced pathway interferences with the molecular electronic coupling pathways, as these interferences allow a new kind of ET rate tuning. We also examined the ET kinetics for both low and high cavity frequency regimes as the light-matter coupling strength is varied. The interference between the cavity-induced and intrinsic molecular coupling pathway interference is defined by the cavity properties, including the cavity frequency and the light-matter coupling interaction strength. Thus, manipulating the cavity-induced interferences with the chemical coupling pathways offers new strategies to direct charge flow at the nanoscale.

Neutron-induced nuclear recoil background in the PandaX-4T experiment

Neutron-induced nuclear recoil background is critical to the dark matter searches in the PandaX-4T liquid xenon experiment. This paper studies the feature of neutron background in liquid xenon and evaluates their contribution in the single scattering nuclear recoil events through three methods. The first method is fully Monte Carlo simulation based. The last two are data-driven methods that also use the multiple scattering signals and high energy signals in the data, respectively. In the PandaX-4T commissioning data with an exposure of 0.63 tonne-year, all these methods give a consistent result that there are $1.15\pm0.57$ neutron-induced background in dark matter signal region within an approximated nuclear recoil energy window between 5 and 100 keV.

Measuring Difficulty of Novelty Reaction

Current AI systems are designed to solve close-world problems with the assumption that the underlying world is remaining more or less the same. However, when dealing with real-world problems such assumptions can be invalid as sudden and unexpected changes can occur. To effectively deploy AI-powered systems in the real world, AI systems should be able to deal with open-world novelty quickly. Inevitably, dealing with open-world novelty raises an important question of novelty difficulty. Knowing whether one novelty is harder to deal with than another, can help researchers to train their systems systematically. In addition, it can also serve as a measurement of the performance of novelty robust AI systems. In this paper, we propose to define the novelty reaction difficulty as a relative difficulty of performing the known task after the introduction of the novelty. We propose a universal method that can be applied to approximate the difficulty. We present the approximations of the difficulty using our method and show how it aligns with the results of the evaluation of AI agents designed to deal with novelty.

An Insight-HXMT view of the mHz quasi-regular modulation phenomenon in the black hole X-ray binary 4U 1630-47

Here we report the spectral-timing results of the black hole X-ray binary 4U 1630-47 during its 2021 outburst using observations from the Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope. Type-C quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) in 1.6--4.2 Hz and quasi-regular modulation (QRM) near 60 mHz are detected during the outburst. The mHz QRM has a fractional rms of 10%--16% in the 8--35 keV energy band with a Q factor (frequency/width) of 2--4. Benefiting from the broad energy band of hxmt, we study the energy dependence of the 60 mHz QRM in 1--100 keV for the first time. We find that the fractional rms of the mHz QRM increases with photon energy, while the time lags of the mHz QRM are soft and decrease with photon energy. Fast recurrence of the mHz QRM, in a timescale of less than one hour, has been observed during the outburst. During this period, the corresponding energy spectra moderately change when the source transitions from the QRM state to the non-QRM state. The QRM phenomena also shows a dependence with the accretion rate. We suggest that the QRM could be caused by an unknown accretion instability aroused from the corona.
