UFO Sightings with Matchete: Connecting BSM Lagrangians with Event Generators

We present a tool for the automated generation of Universal Feynman Output (UFO) files, used as input by many event generators, for generic Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) theories and their low-energy Effective Field Theory (EFT) descriptions. Building on the Matchete package, which provides a convenient interface for defining BSM models and deriving their EFTs via matching, our extension obtains the Lagrangian in the broken phase of the electroweak symmetry, performs automatic gauge fixing, computes all Feynman rules, imposes flavor symmetries, and exports the model in the UFO format. This significantly streamlines BSM and EFT analyses, as we illustrate with an EFT validity study for a multi-channel leptoquark search. As an application, we provide a complete UFO implementation of the Standard Model EFT up to dimension eight using the $M_W$ electroweak input scheme.

Rendezfood: A Design Case Study of a Conversational Location-based Approach in Restaurants

The restaurant industry is currently facing a challenging socio-economic situation caused by the rise of delivery services, inflation, and typically low margins. Often, technological opportunities for process optimization or customer retention are not fully utilized. In our design case study, we investigate which technologies are already being used to improve the customer experience in restaurants and explore a novel new approach to this issue. We designed, implemented, and evaluated a platform with customers and restaurateurs to increase visibility and emotional connection to nearby restaurants through their dishes. Some of our key findings include the enormous potential of combining location-based systems and conversational agents, but also the difficulties in creating content for such platforms. We contribute to the field of Human-Food Interaction by (1) identifying promising design spaces as well as customer and restaurateur requirements for technology in this domain, (2) presenting an innovative design case study to improve the user experience, and (3) exploring the broader implications of our design case study findings for approaching a real-world metaverse.

Trends of digitalization and adoption of big data & analytics among UK SMEs: Analysis and lessons drawn from a case study of 53 SMEs

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) now generate digital data at an unprecedented rate from online transactions, social media marketing and associated customer interactions, online product or service reviews and feedback, clinical diagnosis, Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, and production processes. All these forms of data can be transformed into monetary value if put into a proper data value chain. This requires both skills and IT investments for the long-term benefit of businesses. However, such spending is beyond the capacity of most SMEs due to their limited resources and restricted access to finances. This paper presents lessons learned from a case study of 53 UK SMEs, mostly from the West Midlands region of England, supported as part of a 3-year ERDF project, Big Data Corridor, in the areas of big data management, analytics and related IT issues. Based on our study's sample companies, several perspectives including the digital technology trends, challenges facing the UK SMEs, and the state of their adoption in data analytics and big data, are presented in the paper.
