Normalized ground state solutions of Schrödinger-KdV system in $\mathbb{R}^3$

In this paper, we study the coupled Schrödinger-KdV system \begin{align*} \begin{cases} -Δu +λ_1 u=u^3+βuv~~&\text{in}~~\mathbb{R}^{3}, \\-Δv +λ_2 v=\frac{1}{2}v^2+\frac{1}{2}βu^2~~&\text{in}~~\mathbb{R}^{3} \end{cases} \end{align*} subject to the mass constraints \begin{equation*} \int_{\mathbb{R}^{3}}|u|^2 dx=a,\quad \int_{\mathbb{R}^{3}}|v|^2 dx=b, \end{equation*} where $a, b>0$ are given constants, $β>0$, and the frequencies $λ_1,λ_2$ arise as Lagrange multipliers. The system exhibits $L^2$-supercritical growth. Using a novel constraint minimization approach, we demonstrate the existence of a local minimum solution to the system. Furthermore, we establish the existence of normalized ground state solutions.

Controllable Edge-Type-Specific Interpretation in Multi-Relational Graph Neural Networks for Drug Response Prediction

Graph Neural Networks have been widely applied in critical decision-making areas that demand interpretable predictions, leading to the flourishing development of interpretability algorithms. However, current graph interpretability algorithms tend to emphasize generality and often overlook biological significance, thereby limiting their applicability in predicting cancer drug responses. In this paper, we propose a novel post-hoc interpretability algorithm for cancer drug response prediction, CETExplainer, which incorporates a controllable edge-type-specific weighting mechanism. It considers the mutual information between subgraphs and predictions, proposing a structural scoring approach to provide fine-grained, biologically meaningful explanations for predictive models. We also introduce a method for constructing ground truth based on real-world datasets to quantitatively evaluate the proposed interpretability algorithm. Empirical analysis on the real-world dataset demonstrates that CETExplainer achieves superior stability and improves explanation quality compared to leading algorithms, thereby offering a robust and insightful tool for cancer drug prediction.

Autosen: improving automatic wifi human sensing through cross-modal autoencoder

WiFi human sensing is highly regarded for its low-cost and privacy advantages in recognizing human activities. However, its effectiveness is largely confined to controlled, single-user, line-of-sight settings, limited by data collection complexities and the scarcity of labeled datasets. Traditional cross-modal methods, aimed at mitigating these limitations by enabling self-supervised learning without labeled data, struggle to extract meaningful features from amplitude-phase combinations. In response, we introduce AutoSen, an innovative automatic WiFi sensing solution that departs from conventional approaches. AutoSen establishes a direct link between amplitude and phase through automated cross-modal autoencoder learning. This autoencoder efficiently extracts valuable features from unlabeled CSI data, encompassing amplitude and phase information while eliminating their respective unique noises. These features are then leveraged for specific tasks using few-shot learning techniques. AutoSen's performance is rigorously evaluated on a publicly accessible benchmark dataset, demonstrating its exceptional capabilities in automatic WiFi sensing through the extraction of comprehensive cross-modal features.

A novel two-dimensional all-carbon Dirac node-line semimetal

Carbon allotropes have vast potential in various applications, including superconductivity, energy storage, catalysis, and photoelectric semiconductor devices. Recently, there has been significant research interest in exploring new carbon materials that exhibit unique electronic structures. Here, we propose a novel two-dimensional (2D) carbon allotrope called TCH-SSH-2D, which possesses a Dirac node-line (DNL) semimetallic state. The structure of TCH-SSH-2D is derived from the TCH-type Archimedean polyhedral carbon cluster units, combined with the SSH lattice model, possessing a space group of tetragonal P4/mmm. Using first-principles calculations, we demonstrate that the system is dynamically, thermodynamically, and mechanically stable. It exhibits an energetically favorable structure with no imaginary frequency in the phonon dispersion curves and elastic constants satisfying the Born-Huang stability criterion. Our findings not only contribute to a deeper understanding of the carbon allotrope family but also provide an opportunity to explore unique Dirac states in two-dimensional pure carbon systems.

Identification of urinary biomarkers of food intake for onion by untargeted LC-MS metabolomics

Scope: Biomarkers of food intake (BFIs) are useful tools for objective assessment of food intake and compliance. The aim of this study was to discover and identify urinary BFIs for onion. Methods and results: In a randomized controlled cross-over trial, 6 overweight participants (age 24-62 years) consumed meals with 20 g/d onion powder or no onion for 2 weeks. Untargeted UPLC-qTOF-MS metabolic profiling analysis was performed on urine samples and the profiles were analysed by multilevel-PLSDA, modified PLS, and nearest shrunken centroid to select features associated with onion intake. Eight biomarkers were tentatively identified; six of them originated from S-substituted cysteine derivatives such as isoalliin and propiin, which are considered the most specific for onion intake. Most of the biomarkers were completely excreted within 24 hours and no accumulation was observed during 2 weeks indicating their ability to reflect only recent intake of onions. Receiver-operator curves were made to evaluate the performance of individual biomarkers for predicting onion intake. The area under the curve values for these biomarkers ranged from 0.81 to 1. Conclusion: Promising biomarkers of recent onion intake have been identified in human urine. Further studies with complex diets are needed to validate the robustness of these biomarkers.

Bilayer Kagome Borophene with Multiple van Hove Singularities

The appearance of van Hove singularities near the Fermi level leads to prominent phenomena, including superconductivity, charge density wave, and ferromagnetism. Here a bilayer Kagome lattice with multiple van Hove singularities is designed and a novel borophene with such lattice (BK-borophene) is proposed by the first-principles calculations. BK-borophene, which is formed via three-center two-electron (3c-2e) sigma-type bonds, is predicted to be energetically, dynamically, thermodynamically, and mechanically stable. The electronic structure hosts both conventional and high-order van Hove singularities in one band. The conventional van Hove singularity resulting from the horse saddle is 0.065 eV lower than the Fermi level, while the high-order one resulting from the monkey saddle is 0.385 eV below the Fermi level. Both the singularities lead to the divergence of electronic density of states. Besides, the high-order singularity is just intersected to a Dirac-like cone, where the Fermi velocity can reach 1340000 m/s. The interaction between the two Kagome lattices is critical for the appearance of high-order van Hove singularities. The novel bilayer Kagome borophene with rich and intriguing electronic structure offers an unprecedented platform for studying correlation phenomena in quantum material systems and beyond.

Credible Remote Sensing Scene Classification Using Evidential Fusion on Aerial-Ground Dual-view Images

Due to their ability to offer more comprehensive information than data from a single view, multi-view (multi-source, multi-modal, multi-perspective, etc.) data are being used more frequently in remote sensing tasks. However, as the number of views grows, the issue of data quality becomes more apparent, limiting the potential benefits of multi-view data. Although recent deep neural network (DNN) based models can learn the weight of data adaptively, a lack of research on explicitly quantifying the data quality of each view when fusing them renders these models inexplicable, performing unsatisfactorily and inflexible in downstream remote sensing tasks. To fill this gap, in this paper, evidential deep learning is introduced to the task of aerial-ground dual-view remote sensing scene classification to model the credibility of each view. Specifically, the theory of evidence is used to calculate an uncertainty value which describes the decision-making risk of each view. Based on this uncertainty, a novel decision-level fusion strategy is proposed to ensure that the view with lower risk obtains more weight, making the classification more credible. On two well-known, publicly available datasets of aerial-ground dual-view remote sensing images, the proposed approach achieves state-of-the-art results, demonstrating its effectiveness. The code and datasets of this article are available at the following address: https://github.com/gaopiaoliang/Evidential.

Learning Deep Nets for Gravitational Dynamics with Unknown Disturbance through Physical Knowledge Distillation: Initial Feasibility Study

Learning high-performance deep neural networks for dynamic modeling of high Degree-Of-Freedom (DOF) robots remains challenging due to the sampling complexity. Typical unknown system disturbance caused by unmodeled dynamics (such as internal compliance, cables) further exacerbates the problem. In this paper, a novel framework characterized by both high data efficiency and disturbance-adapting capability is proposed to address the problem of modeling gravitational dynamics using deep nets in feedforward gravity compensation control for high-DOF master manipulators with unknown disturbance. In particular, Feedforward Deep Neural Networks (FDNNs) are learned from both prior knowledge of an existing analytical model and observation of the robot system by Knowledge Distillation (KD). Through extensive experiments in high-DOF master manipulators with significant disturbance, we show that our method surpasses a standard Learning-from-Scratch (LfS) approach in terms of data efficiency and disturbance adaptation. Our initial feasibility study has demonstrated the potential of outperforming the analytical teacher model as the training data increases.

HSH-carbon: A novel sp2-sp3 carbon allotrope with an ultrawide energy gap

A sp2-sp3 hybrid carbon allotrope named HSH-carbon is proposed by the first-principles calculations. The structure of HSH-carbon can be regarded as a template polymerization of [1.1.1]propellane molecules in a hexagonal lattice, as well as, an AA stacking of recently reported HSH-C10 consisting of carbon trigonal bipyramids. Based on calculations, the stability of this structure is demonstrated in terms of the cohesive energy, phonon dispersion, Born-Huang stability criteria, and ab initio molecular dynamics. HSH-carbon is predicted to be a semiconductor with an indirect energy gap of 3.56 eV at the PBE level or 4.80 eV at the HSE06 level. It is larger than the gap of Si and close to the gap of c-diamond, which indicates HSH-carbon is potentially an ultrawide bandgap semiconductor. The effective masses of carriers in the VB and CB edge are comparable with wide bandgap semiconductors such as GaN and ZnO. The elastic behavior of HSH-carbon such as bulk modulus, Young's modulus and shear modulus is comparable with that of T-carbon and much smaller than that of c-diamond, which suggests that HSH-carbon would be much easier to be processed than c-diamond in practice.

JIZHI: A Fast and Cost-Effective Model-As-A-Service System for Web-Scale Online Inference at Baidu

In modern internet industries, deep learning based recommender systems have became an indispensable building block for a wide spectrum of applications, such as search engine, news feed, and short video clips. However, it remains challenging to carry the well-trained deep models for online real-time inference serving, with respect to the time-varying web-scale traffics from billions of users, in a cost-effective manner. In this work, we present JIZHI - a Model-as-a-Service system - that per second handles hundreds of millions of online inference requests to huge deep models with more than trillions of sparse parameters, for over twenty real-time recommendation services at Baidu, Inc. In JIZHI, the inference workflow of every recommendation request is transformed to a Staged Event-Driven Pipeline (SEDP), where each node in the pipeline refers to a staged computation or I/O intensive task processor. With traffics of real-time inference requests arrived, each modularized processor can be run in a fully asynchronized way and managed separately. Besides, JIZHI introduces heterogeneous and hierarchical storage to further accelerate the online inference process by reducing unnecessary computations and potential data access latency induced by ultra-sparse model parameters. Moreover, an intelligent resource manager has been deployed to maximize the throughput of JIZHI over the shared infrastructure by searching the optimal resource allocation plan from historical logs and fine-tuning the load shedding policies over intermediate system feedback. Extensive experiments have been done to demonstrate the advantages of JIZHI from the perspectives of end-to-end service latency, system-wide throughput, and resource consumption. JIZHI has helped Baidu saved more than ten million US dollars in hardware and utility costs while handling 200% more traffics without sacrificing inference efficiency.

Data-driven Optimal Power Flow: A Physics-Informed Machine Learning Approach

This paper proposes a data-driven approach for optimal power flow (OPF) based on the stacked extreme learning machine (SELM) framework. SELM has a fast training speed and does not require the time-consuming parameter tuning process compared with the deep learning algorithms. However, the direct application of SELM for OPF is not tractable due to the complicated relationship between the system operating status and the OPF solutions. To this end, a data-driven OPF regression framework is developed that decomposes the OPF model features into three stages. This not only reduces the learning complexity but also helps correct the learning bias. A sample pre-classification strategy based on active constraint identification is also developed to achieve enhanced feature attractions. Numerical results carried out on IEEE and Polish benchmark systems demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms other alternatives. It is also shown that the proposed method can be easily extended to address different test systems by adjusting only a few hyperparameters.

Experimental Realization of Two-Dimensional Buckled Lieb lattice

Two-dimensional (2D) materials with a Lieb lattice can host exotic electronic band structures. Such a system does not exist in nature, and it is also difficult to obtain in the laboratory due to its structural instability. Here, we experimentally realized a 2D system composed of a tin overlayer on an aluminum substrate by molecular beam epitaxy. The specific arrangement of Sn atoms on the Al(100) surface, which benefits from favorable interface interactions, forms a stabilized buckled Lieb lattice. Our theoretical calculations indicate a partially broken nodal line loop protected by its mirror reflection symmetry and a topologically nontrivial insulating state with a spin-orbital coupling (SOC) effect in the band structure of this Lieb lattice. The electronic structure of this system has also been experimentally characterized by scanning tunnelling spectroscopy and angle-resolved photoemmision spectroscopy. Our work provides an appealing method for constructing 2D quantum materials based on the Lieb lattice.

Computational study on the half-metallicity in transition metal-oxide-incorporated 2D g-C3N4 nanosheets

In this study, based on the first-principles calculations, we systematically investigated the electronic and magnetic properties of the transition metal-oxide-incorporated 2D g-C3N4 nanosheet (labeled C3N4-TM-O, TM = Sc-Mn). The results suggest that the TM-O binds to g-C3N4 nanosheets strongly for all systems. We found that the 2D C3N4-TM-O framework is ferromagnetic for TM = Sc, Ti, V, Cr, while it is antiferromagnetic for TM = Mn. All the ferromagnetic systems exhibit the half-metallic property. Furthermore, Monte Carlo simulations based on the Heisenberg model suggest that the Curie temperatures (T_c) of the C3N4-TM-O (TM = Sc, Ti, V, Cr) framework are 169 K, 68 K, 203 K, and 190 K, respectively. Based on Bader charge analysis, we found that the origin of the half-metallicity at Fermi energy can be partially attributed to the transfer of electrons from TM atoms to the g-C3N4 nanosheet. In addition, we found that not only electrons but also holes can induce half-metallicity for 2D g-C3N4 nanosheets, which may help to understand the origin of half-metallicity for graphitic carbon nitride.

SCMA with Low Complexity Symmetric Codebook Design for Visible Light Communication

Sparse code multiple access (SCMA) is attracting significant research interests currently, which is considered as a promising multiple access technique for 5G systems. It serves as a good candidate for the future communication network with massive nodes due to its capability of handling user overloading. Introducing SCMA to visible light communication (VLC) can provide another opportunity on design of transmission protocols for the communication network with massive nodes due to the limited communication range of VLC, which reduces the interference intensity. However, when applying SCMA in VLC systems, we need to modify the SCMA codebook to accommodate the real and positive signal requirement for VLC.We apply multidimensional constellation design methods to SCMA codebook. To reduce the design complexity, we also propose a symmetric codebook design. For all the proposed design approaches, the minimum Euclidean distance aims to be maximized. Our symmetric codebook design can reduce design and detection complexity simultaneously. Simulation results show that our design implies fast convergence with respect to the number of iterations, and outperforms the design that simply modifies the existing approaches to VLC signal requirements.

Joint Transceiver and Offset Design for Visible Light Communications with Input-dependent Shot Noise

In this paper, we investigate the problem of the joint transceiver and offset design (JTOD) for point-to-point multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) and multiple user multiple-input-single-output (MU-MISO) visible light communication (VLC) systems. Both uplink and downlink multi-user scenarios are considered. The shot noise induced by the incoming signals is considered, leading to a more realistic MIMO VLC channel model. Under key lighting constraints, we formulate non-convex optimization problems aiming at minimizing the sum mean squared error. To optimize the transceiver and the offset jointly, a gradient projection based procedure is resorted to. When only imperfect channel state information is available, a semidefinite programming (SDP) based scheme is proposed to obtain robust transceiver and offset. The proposed method is shown to non-trivially outperform the conventional scaled zero forcing (ZF) and singular value decomposition (SVD) based equalization methods. The robust scheme works particularly well when the signal is much stronger than the noise.

Interference Management and Power Allocation for NOMA Visible Light Communications Network

To design an efficient interference management and multiple access scheme for visible light communication (VLC) network, this letter leverages the non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA), which has received significant attention in the $5^{th}$ generation wireless communication. With the residual interference from the successive interference cancellation in NOMA taken into account, we optimize the power allocation for NOMA VLC network to improve the achievable user rate under user quality of service (QoS) constraint. The performance of the proposed approaches is evaluated by the numerical results.

DC-Informative Joint Color-Frequency Modulation for Visible Light Communications

In this paper, we consider the problem of constellation design for a visible light communication (VLC) system using red/green/blue light-emitting diodes (RGB LED), and propose a method termed DC-informative joint color-frequency modulation (DCI-JCFM). This method jointly utilizes available diversity resources including different optical wavelengths, multiple baseband subcarriers, and adaptive DC-bias. Constellation is designed in a high dimensional space, where the compact sphere packing advantage over lower dimensional counterparts is utilized. Taking into account multiple practical illumination constraints, a non-convex optimization problem is formulated, seeking the least error rate with a fixed spectral efficiency. The proposed scheme is compared with a decoupled scheme, where constellation is designed separately for each LED. Notable gains for DCI-JCFM are observed through simulations where balanced, unbalanced and very unbalanced color illuminations are considered.

From DC-Biased to DC-Informative Optical OFDM

We propose a novel modulation scheme for intensity modulation and direct detection (IM/DD) based optical communication system employing orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). This method utilizes the DC-bias, which typically is discarded at the receiver-end, to carry information to achieve higher power efficiency. By formulating and solving a convex optimization problem, a constellation in high dimensional space is designed offline for the input of the transmitter-side inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) block. We point out that one can choose partial or full DC power for information transmission. Under the condition that the spectrum efficiency is fixed and attainable, this method bears notable power gain over traditional DC-biased optical OFDM (DCO-OFDM).
