The weak Harnack inequality and the rigidity of the anisotropic Trudinger's equation

We prove a local weak Harnack inequality for nonnegative weak super-solutions to the anisotropic Trudinger equation. As an application, we show a proof of the Harnack inequality that bypasses any sort of Krylov-Safonov covering argument. We further develop an analysis of global sub-potential lower bounds which ultimately leads to the identification of a Barenblatt-type profile.

Harnack estimates for the nonlocal Trudinger equation

We carry on a study of the point-wise regularity theory for the nonlocal Trudinger equation, with measurable and bounded singular kernel. We establish refined quantitative upper bounds, weak and strong parabolic Harnack inequalities, both under optimal tail conditions. Our analysis relies on the adaptation of a refined De Giorgi-Moser machinery based on the parabolic approach \'{a} la Di Benedetto, specifically designed to overcome the technical intricacies of the nonlocal, doubly nonlinear framework.

Widely degenerate anisotropic diffusion: local boundedness and semicontinuity

We investigate the regularity of local weak solutions to evolution equations of the form \[ \partial_{t}u\,=\,\sum_{i=1}^{n}\,\partial_{x_{i}}\left[a_{i}(x,t)\,(\vert\partial_{x_{i}}u\vert-\delta_{i})_{+}^{p_{i}-1}\,\frac{\partial_{x_{i}}u}{\vert\partial_{x_{i}}u\vert}\right]\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\mathrm{in}\,\,\,\Omega_{T}\,=\,\Omega\times(0,T)\,, \] where $\Omega$ is a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ with $n\geq2$, the coefficients $a_{i}$ are measurable and bounded, $p_{i}>1$ and $\delta_{i}\geq0$ are fixed parameters. Under suitable assumptions on the exponents $p_{i}$, we first show that the local boundedness of weak solutions follows from their membership in an appropriate non-homogeneous parabolic De Giorgi class. We then establish the existence of semicontinuous representatives for local weak sub(super)-solutions. Our analysis extends analogous results available for less degenerate operators and generalizes the local boundedness results obtained in [7] to fully anisotropic, widely degenerate parabolic PDEs with non-smooth coefficients depending additionally on the space-time variables $(x,t)$, whose growth is governed by a family of exponents $p_{i}$ rather than by a single exponent.

Regularity for Doubly Nonlinear Equations in the Mixed Regime

We study the local H\"older continuity of nonnegative solutions to doubly nonlinear equations by introducing a new technique that allows us to treat the cases where the equation is both singular and degenerate, up to specific Barenblatt numbers. Our argument relies on a new integral $L^1$-$L^1$ Harnack estimate, of independent interest.

Integral Harnack estimates and the rate of extinction of singular fractional diffusion

We prove several integral Harnack-type inequalities for local weak solutions of parabolic equations with measurable and bounded coefficients, describing singular s-fractional p-Laplacian diffusion. Then we apply the aforementioned estimates to evaluate the decay rate of the local mass and supremum of the solutions as they approach a possible extinction time. Yet we show consistency of our general decay estimates by studying the extinction phenomenon for weak solutions of the Cauchy-Dirichlet problem, by means of an approximation procedure that carefully avoids the use of an integrable time derivative.

Local boundedness for weak solutions to strongly degenerate orthotropic parabolic equations

We prove the local boundedness of local weak solutions to the parabolic equation \[ \partial_{t}u\,=\,\sum_{i=1}^{n}\partial_{x_{i}}\left[(\vert u_{x_{i}}\vert-\delta_{i})_{+}^{p-1}\frac{u_{x_{i}}}{\vert u_{x_{i}}\vert}\right]\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\mathrm{in}\,\,\,\Omega_{T}=\Omega\times(0,T]\,, \] where $\Omega$ is a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ with $n\geq2$, $p\geq2$, $\delta_{1},\ldots,\delta_{n}$ are non-negative numbers and $\left(\,\cdot\,\right)_{+}$ denotes the positive part. The main novelty here is that the above equation combines an orthotropic structure with a strongly degenerate behavior. The core result of this paper thus extends a classical boundedness theorem, originally proved for the parabolic $p$-Laplacian, to a widely degenerate anisotropic setting. As a byproduct, we also obtain the local boundedness of local weak solutions to the isotropic counterpart of the above equation.

Nonlocal parabolic De Giorgi classes

We propose a new paradigm for the point-wise regularity theory of parabolic nonlocal problems, by addressing directly the elements of a wide parabolic energy class. First we carry on a refined analysis of their local boundedness under optimal tail conditions, and then prove several weak Harnack estimates through a purely measure-theoretical framework. Then we give a novel proof of the nonlocal parabolic Harnack inequality, that avoids any covering argument or lemma \`a la John-Nirenberg and is valid regardless of any comparison principle. The regularity program is completed by addressing local H\"older estimates, eventually leading to a Liouville-type theorem.

Qualitative properties of solutions to parabolic anisotropic equations: Part II. The anisotropic Trudinger's equation

We study the local regularity properties of weak solutions to a special class of anisotropic doubly nonlinear parabolic operators, whose prototype is the anisotropic Trudinger's equation. We prove a parabolic Harnack inequality, valid without any restrictions on the exponents $p_i$s. When the range of diffusion exponents is restricted, solutions are H\"{o}lder continuous.

Qualitative properties of solutions to parabolic anisotropic equations: Part I -- Expansion of positivity

We prove expansion of positivity and reduction of the oscillation results to the local weak solutions to a doubly nonlinear anisotropic class of parabolic differential equations with bounded and measurable coefficients, whose prototype is \begin{equation*} u_t-\sum\limits_{i=1}^N \left( u^{(m_i-1)(p_i-1)} \ |u_{x_i}|^{p_i-2} \ u_{x_i} \right)_{x_i}=0 , \end{equation*} for a restricted range of $p_i$s and $m_i$s, that reflects their competition for the diffusion. The positivity expansion relies on an exponential shift and is presented separately for singular and degenerate cases. Finally we present a study of the local oscillation of the solution for some specific ranges of exponents, within the singular and degenerate cases.

Parabolic De Giorgi classes with doubly nonlinear, nonstandard growth: local boundedness under exact integrability assumptions

We define a suitable class $\mathcal{PDG}$ of functions bearing unbalanced energy estimates, that are embodied by local weak subsolutions to doubly nonlinear, double-phase, Orlicz-type and fully anisotropic operators. Yet we prove that members of $\mathcal{PDG}$ are locally bounded, under critical, sub-critical and limit growth conditions typical of singular parabolic operators, with quantitative a priori estimates that follow the lines of the pioneering work of Ladyzhenskaya, Solonnikov and Uraltseva \cite{LadSolUra}. These local bounds are new in the sub-critical cases, even for the classic $p$-Laplacean equations, since no extra-integrability condition is needed.

The weak Harnack inequality for unbounded minimizers of elliptic functionals with generalized Orlicz growth

In this work we prove that the non-negative functions $u \in L^s_{loc}(\Omega)$, for some $s>0$, belonging to the De Giorgi classes \begin{equation}\label{eq0.1} \fint\limits_{B_{r(1-\sigma)}(x_{0})} \big|\nabla \big(u-k\big)_{-}\big|^{p}\, dx \leqslant \frac{c}{\sigma^{q}} \,\Lambda\big(x_{0}, r, k\big)\bigg(\frac{k}{r}\bigg)^{p}\bigg(\frac{\big|B_{r}(x_{0})\cap\big\{u\leqslant k\big\}\big|}{|B_{r}(x_{0})|}\bigg)^{1-\delta}, \end{equation} under proper assumptions on $\Lambda$, satisfy a weak Harnack inequality with a constant depending on the $L^s$-norm of $u$. Under suitable assumptions on $\Lambda$, the minimizers of elliptic functionals with generalized Orlicz growth belong to De Giorgi classes satisfying \eqref{eq0.1}; thus this study gives a wider interpretation of Harnack-type estimates derived to double-phase, degenerate double-phase functionals and functionals with variable exponents.

Fine boundary continuity for degenerate double-phase diffusion

We study the boundary behavior of solutions to parabolic double-phase equations through the celebrated Wiener's sufficiency criterion. The analysis is conducted for cylindrical domains and the regularity up to the lateral boundary is shown in terms of either its $p$ or $q$ capacity, depending on whether the phase vanishes at the boundary or not. Eventually we obtain a fine boundary estimate that, when considering uniform geometric conditions as density or fatness, leads us to the boundary H\"older continuity of solutions. In particular, the double-phase elicits new questions on the definition of an adapted capacity.

The impact of intrinsic scaling on the rate of extinction for anisotropic non-Newtonian fast diffusion

We study the decay towards the extinction that pertains to local weak solutions to fully anisotropic equations whose prototype is \[ \partial_t u= \sum_{i=1}^N \partial_i (|\partial_i u|^{p_i-2} \partial_i u), \qquad 1<p_i<2. \] Their rates of extinction are evaluated by means of several integral Harnack-type inequalities which constitute the core of our analysis and that are obtained for anisotropic operators having full quasilinear structure. Different decays are obtained when considering different space geometries. The approach is motivated by the research of new methods for strongly nonlinear operators, hence dispensing with comparison principles, while exploiting an intrinsic geometry that affects all the variables of the solution.

Harnack-type estimates and extinction in finite time for a class of anisotropic porous medium type equations

In this work we are interested in the study of a class of anisotropic porous medium-type equations whose prototype is \[ u_t =\sum_{i=1}^N \left( m_i u^{m_i-1} u_{x_i} \right)_{x_i} \ , \qquad 0<m_1 \leq \cdots \leq m_N <1 \ , \] for which we derive several estimates, namely two Harnack-type inequalities; and, when considering the associated Dirichlet problem, we determine the finite time of extinction and thereby present a decay rate of extinction.

Gaussian estimates vs. elliptic regularity on open sets

Given an elliptic operator $L= - \mathrm{div} (A \nabla \cdot)$ subject to mixed boundary conditions on an open subset of $\mathbb{R}^d$, we study the relation between Gaussian pointwise estimates for the kernel of the associated heat semigroup, H\"older continuity of $L$-harmonic functions and the growth of the Dirichlet energy. To this end, we generalize an equivalence theorem of Auscher and Tchamitchian to the case of mixed boundary conditions and to open sets far beyond Lipschitz domains. Yet we prove consistency of our abstract result by encompassing operators with real-valued coefficients and their small complex perturbations into one of the aforementioned equivalent properties. The resulting kernel bounds open the door for developing a harmonic analysis for the associated semigroups on rough open sets.

Boundedness, Ultracontractive Bounds and Optimal Evolution of the Support for Doubly Nonlinear Anisotropic Diffusion

We investigate some regularity properties of a class of doubly nonlinear anisotropic evolution equations whose model case is \begin{align*} \partial_t \big(|u|^{\alpha -1}u \big) - \sum^N_{i=1} \partial_i \big( |\partial_i u|^{p_i - 2} \partial_i u \big) = 0, \end{align*} where $\alpha \in (0,1)$ and $p_i \in (1, \infty)$. We obtain super and ultracontractive bounds, and global boundedness in space for solutions to the Cauchy problem with initial data in $L^{\alpha+1}(\mathbb{R}^N)$, and show that the mass is nonincreasing over time. As a consequence, compactly supported evolution is shown for optimal exponents. We introduce a seemingly new paradigm, by showing that Caccioppoli estimates, local boundedness and semicontinuity are consequences of the membership to a suitable energy class. This membership is proved by first establishing the continuity of the map $t \mapsto |u|^{\alpha-1}u(\cdot,t) \in L^{1+1/\alpha}_{loc}(\Omega)$ permitting us to use a suitable mollified weak formulation along with an appropriate test function.

Liouville rigidity and time-extrinsic Harnack estimates for an anisotropic slow diffusion

We prove that ancient non-negative solutions to a fully anisotropic prototype evolution equation are constant if they satisfy a condition of finite speed of propagation and if they are both one-sided bounded, and bounded in space at a single time level. A similar statement is valid when the bound is given at a single space point. As a general paradigm, H\"older estimates provide the basics for rigidity. Finally, we show that recent intrinsic Harnack estimates can be improved to a Harnack inequality valid for non-intrinsic times. Locally, they are equivalent.
