Hybrid Generative-Tagging Decoding for Efficient Product Attribute-Value Extraction

Attribute-value extraction is important for building high-quality product catalogs in e-commerce. Existing systems either rely on generative or tagging strategies for extracting the attribute names and their corresponding values. Tagging models directly label spans in the source, making them fast and grounded, but they cannot produce values that require reformatting or generate rare attribute names outside their label space. Generative models avoid these drawbacks by generating both attribute names and values token by token, but this auto-regressive nature makes them slow and limits attribute coverage. We introduce hybrid generative-tagging decoding, a novel model architecture that combines tagging source spans and open-ended generation. For frequent attributes whose values are copyable, a tagging head extracts values directly from the source. This lets the generative head focus on the remainder - rare attributes outside the tagger's label space and non-copyable values, including implicit or normalized values. Integrated into vLLM inference, the hybrid decoder raises attribute coverage by 10% and extracts 63% more correct attribute-value pairs at no precision cost, while reducing latency by 44%.

Bootstrap-Conditioned Action Selection with Tabular Foundation Models

Contextual bandits offer a natural framework for sample-efficient personalization, but practical deployment remains difficult under sparse, biased interaction data, unreliable uncertainty estimates, and severe cold starts. We study whether pre-trained tabular foundation models with in-context learning can be turned into randomized policies for online decision making. We propose BC-ICL (Bootstrap-conditioned action selection using ICL), which at each round draws a bootstrap resample of the interaction history, conditions a frozen pre-trained ICL model on that resample, scores all actions, and selects the action with the highest sampled score. We further introduce an arm-context conditioning architecture that promotes shared statistical strength across actions and helps avoid common bootstrap failure modes of isolated-arm bandits. Empirically, this policy delivers strong early-round regret and regret performance on standard contextual bandit suites, outperforming established baselines under a strict online protocol.

DocBed: A Multi-Stage OCR Solution for Documents with Complex Layouts

Digitization of newspapers is of interest for many reasons including preservation of history, accessibility and search ability, etc. While digitization of documents such as scientific articles and magazines is prevalent in literature, one of the main challenges for digitization of newspaper lies in its complex layout (e.g. articles spanning multiple columns, text interrupted by images) analysis, which is necessary to preserve human read-order. This work provides a major breakthrough in the digitization of newspapers on three fronts: first, releasing a dataset of 3000 fully-annotated, real-world newspaper images from 21 different U.S. states representing an extensive variety of complex layouts for document layout analysis; second, proposing layout segmentation as a precursor to existing optical character recognition (OCR) engines, where multiple state-of-the-art image segmentation models and several post-processing methods are explored for document layout segmentation; third, providing a thorough and structured evaluation protocol for isolated layout segmentation and end-to-end OCR.
