Aspect-based Meeting Transcript Summarization: A Two-Stage Approach with Weak Supervision on Sentence Classification

Aspect-based meeting transcript summarization aims to produce multiple summaries, each focusing on one aspect of content in a meeting transcript. It is challenging as sentences related to different aspects can mingle together, and those relevant to a specific aspect can be scattered throughout the long transcript of a meeting. The traditional summarization methods produce one summary mixing information of all aspects, which cannot deal with the above challenges of aspect-based meeting transcript summarization. In this paper, we propose a two-stage method for aspect-based meeting transcript summarization. To select the input content related to specific aspects, we train a sentence classifier on a dataset constructed from the AMI corpus with pseudo-labeling. Then we merge the sentences selected for a specific aspect as the input for the summarizer to produce the aspect-based summary. Experimental results on the AMI corpus outperform many strong baselines, which verifies the effectiveness of our proposed method.

Correlation between spin state and activity for hydrogen evolution

Spin plays a key role in physical and chemical reactions, such as oxygen evolution and hydrogen evolution reactions (OER/HER); but the spin-activity correlation has remained unclear. Based on a transition metal (TM)-doped PtN2 monolayer model with a well-defined spin center as adsorption site, we here reveal that only active spin state can enhance the strength of hydrogen adsorption, while inert spin state offers very little influence. Specifically, the unpaired electron along the out-of-plane direction such as in dZ2 orbital, acting as an active spin state, will strongly hybridize with hydrogen, resulting in enhanced hydrogen binding energy because dZ2 orbital is just enough to accommodate two electrons to form a bonding orbital. While the in-plane unpaired electron such as in dX2-Y2 orbital, plays a negligible role in adsorbing hydrogen atom. This is verified by a series of single atom catalysts comprising of PtN2 monolayer by replacing Pt atom with a TM (Fe, Co, Ni, Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, or Ir) atom, or subsequent adsorbing a Cl atom. One of the most promising materials is Pd@PtN2-Cl that offers superior HER activity, even better than pure Pt. This work uncovers the nature of spin-activity correlation, thus paving the way for the design of high-performance catalysts through spin-engineering.

CoF-CoT: Enhancing Large Language Models with Coarse-to-Fine Chain-of-Thought Prompting for Multi-domain NLU Tasks

While Chain-of-Thought prompting is popular in reasoning tasks, its application to Large Language Models (LLMs) in Natural Language Understanding (NLU) is under-explored. Motivated by multi-step reasoning of LLMs, we propose Coarse-to-Fine Chain-of-Thought (CoF-CoT) approach that breaks down NLU tasks into multiple reasoning steps where LLMs can learn to acquire and leverage essential concepts to solve tasks from different granularities. Moreover, we propose leveraging semantic-based Abstract Meaning Representation (AMR) structured knowledge as an intermediate step to capture the nuances and diverse structures of utterances, and to understand connections between their varying levels of granularity. Our proposed approach is demonstrated effective in assisting the LLMs adapt to the multi-grained NLU tasks under both zero-shot and few-shot multi-domain settings.

A Policy Optimization Method Towards Optimal-time Stability

In current model-free reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms, stability criteria based on sampling methods are commonly utilized to guide policy optimization. However, these criteria only guarantee the infinite-time convergence of the system's state to an equilibrium point, which leads to sub-optimality of the policy. In this paper, we propose a policy optimization technique incorporating sampling-based Lyapunov stability. Our approach enables the system's state to reach an equilibrium point within an optimal time and maintain stability thereafter, referred to as "optimal-time stability". To achieve this, we integrate the optimization method into the Actor-Critic framework, resulting in the development of the Adaptive Lyapunov-based Actor-Critic (ALAC) algorithm. Through evaluations conducted on ten robotic tasks, our approach outperforms previous studies significantly, effectively guiding the system to generate stable patterns.

Stochastic Game with Interactive Information Acquisition: Pipelined Perfect Markov Bayesian Equilibrium

This paper studies a multi-player, general-sum stochastic game characterized by a dual-stage temporal structure per period. The agents face uncertainty regarding the time-evolving state that is realized at the beginning of each period. During the first stage, agents engage in information acquisition regarding the unknown state. Each agent strategically selects from multiple signaling options, each carrying a distinct cost. The selected signaling rule dispenses private information that determines the type of the agent. In the second stage, the agents play a Bayesian game by taking actions contingent on their private types. We introduce an equilibrium concept, Pipelined Perfect Markov Bayesian Equilibrium (PPME), which incorporates the Markov perfect equilibrium and the perfect Bayesian equilibrium. We propose a novel equilibrium characterization principle termed fixed-point alignment and deliver a set of verifiable necessary and sufficient conditions for any strategy profile to achieve PPME.

Frequency Tunable Magnetostatic Wave Filters With Zero Static Power Magnetic Biasing Circuitry

A single tunable filter simplifies complexity, reduces insertion loss, and minimizes size compared to frequency switchable filter banks commonly used for radio frequency (RF) band selection. Magnetostatic wave (MSW) filters stand out for their wide, continuous frequency tuning and high-quality factor. However, MSW filters employing electromagnets for tuning consume excessive power and space, unsuitable for consumer wireless applications. Here, we demonstrate miniature and high selectivity MSW tunable filters with zero static power consumption, occupying less than 2 cc. The center frequency is continuously tunable from 3.4 GHz to 11.1 GHz via current pulses of sub-millisecond duration applied to a small and nonvolatile magnetic bias assembly. This assembly is limited in the area over which it can achieve a large and uniform magnetic field, necessitating filters realized from small resonant cavities micromachined in thin films of Yttrium Iron Garnet. Filter insertion loss of 3.2 dB to 5.1 dB and out-of-band third order input intercept point greater than 41 dBm are achieved. The filter's broad frequency range, compact size, low insertion loss, high out-of-band linearity, and zero static power consumption are essential for protecting RF transceivers and antennas from interference, thus facilitating their use in mobile applications like IoT and 6G networks.

On (co-)morphisms of $n$-Lie-Rinehart algebras with applications to Nambu-Poisson manifolds

In this paper, we give a unified description of morphisms and comorphisms of $n$-Lie-Rinehart algebras. We show that these morphisms and comorphisms can be regarded as two subalgebras of the $ψ$-sum of $n$-Lie-Rinehart algebras. We also provide similar descriptions for morphisms and comorphisms of $n$-Lie algebroids. It is proved that the category of vector bundles with Nambu-Poisson structures of rank $n$ and the category of their dual bundles with $n$-Lie algebroid structures of rank $n$ are equivalent to each other.

It is proved that the category of conformal Lie 2-algebras and the category of 2-term conformal $L_{\infty}$-algebras are equivalent. We construct conformal Lie 2-algebras from conformal omni-Lie algebras and Leibniz conformal algebras.

Coupling Diffusion and Finite Deformation in Phase Transformation Materials

We present a multiscale theoretical framework to investigate the interplay between diffusion and finite lattice deformation in phase transformation materials. In this framework, we use the Cauchy-Born Rule and the Principle of Virtual Power to derive a thermodynamically consistent theory coupling the diffusion of a guest species (Cahn-Hilliard type) with the finite deformation of host lattices (nonlinear gradient elasticity). We adapt this theory to intercalation materials--specifically Li$_{1-2}$Mn$_2$O$_4$--to investigate the delicate interplay between Li-diffusion and the cubic-to-tetragonal deformation of lattices. Our computations reveal fundamental insights into the microstructural evolution pathways under dynamic discharge conditions, and provide quantitative insights into the nucleation and growth of twinned microstructures during intercalation. Additionally, our results identify regions of stress concentrations (e.g., at phase boundaries, particle surfaces) that arise from lattice misfit and accumulate in the electrode with repeated cycling. These findings suggest a potential mechanism for structural decay in Li$_2$Mn$_2$O$_4$. More generally, we establish a theoretical framework that can be used to investigate microstructural evolution pathways, across multiple length scales, in first-order phase transformation materials.

Drinfeld Modular Curves Subordinate to Conjugacy Classes of Nilpotent Upper-Triangular Matrices

We introduce normalized Drinfeld modular curves that parameterize rank $m$ Drinfeld modules compatible with a $T$-torsion structure arising from a given conjugacy class of nilpotent upper-triangular $n\times n$ matrices with rank $\geqslant n-m$ over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$. This creates a deep link connecting the classification of nilpotent upper-triangular matrices and the decomposition of Drinfeld modular curves. The conjugacy classes of nilpotent upper-triangular matrices one-to-one corresponds to certain $T$-torsion flags, and form a tree structure. As a result, the associated Drinfeld modular curves are organized in the same tree. This generalizes the tower structure introduced by Bassa, Beelen, Garcia, Stichtenoth, and others. Additionally,we prove the geometric irreducibility of $(3,2)$-type normalized Drinfeld modular curves, and characterize their associated function fields.

1st Place Solution for the 5th LSVOS Challenge: Video Instance Segmentation

Video instance segmentation is a challenging task that serves as the cornerstone of numerous downstream applications, including video editing and autonomous driving. In this report, we present further improvements to the SOTA VIS method, DVIS. First, we introduce a denoising training strategy for the trainable tracker, allowing it to achieve more stable and accurate object tracking in complex and long videos. Additionally, we explore the role of visual foundation models in video instance segmentation. By utilizing a frozen VIT-L model pre-trained by DINO v2, DVIS demonstrates remarkable performance improvements. With these enhancements, our method achieves 57.9 AP and 56.0 AP in the development and test phases, respectively, and ultimately ranked 1st in the VIS track of the 5th LSVOS Challenge. The code will be available at https://github.com/zhang-tao-whu/DVIS.

Mean field elastic moduli of a three-dimensional cell-based vertex model

The mechanics of a foam typically depends on the bubble geometry, topology, and the material at hand, be it metallic or polymeric, for example. While the foam energy functional for each bubble is typically minimization of surface area for a given volume, biology provides us with a wealth of additional energy functionals, should one consider biological cells as a foam-like material. Here, we focus on a mean field approach to obtain the elastic moduli, within linear response, for an ordered, three-dimensional vertex model using the space-filling shape of a truncated octahedron and whose energy functional is characterized by a restoring surface area spring and a restoring volume spring. The tuning of the three-dimensional shape index exhibits a rigidity transition via a compatible-incompatible transition. Specifically, for smaller shape indices, both the target surface area and volume cannot be achieved, while beyond some critical value of the three-dimensional shape index, they can be, resulting in a zero-energy state. As the elastic moduli depend on curvatures of the energy when the system, we obtain these as well. In addition to analytically determining the location of the transition in mean field, we find that the rigidity transition and the elastic moduli depend on the parameterization of the cell shape with this effect being more pronounced in three dimensions given the array of shapes that a polyhedron can take on (as compared to a polygon). We also uncover nontrivial dependence on the deformation protocol in which some deformations result in affine motion of the vertices, while others result in nonaffine motion. Such dependencies on the shape parameterization and deformation protocol give rise to a nontrivial shape landscape and, therefore, nontrivial mechanical response even in the absence of topology changes.

Federated Learning with Server Learning: Enhancing Performance for Non-IID Data

Federated Learning (FL) has emerged as a means of distributed learning using local data stored at clients with a coordinating server. Recent studies showed that FL can suffer from poor performance and slower convergence when training data at clients are not independent and identically distributed. Here we consider a new complementary approach to mitigating this performance degradation by allowing the server to perform auxiliary learning from a small dataset. Our analysis and experiments show that this new approach can achieve significant improvements in both model accuracy and convergence time even when the server dataset is small and its distribution differs from that of the aggregated data from all clients.

Absorption of Carbon Dioxide in Kerogen Nanopores: A Mechanism Study using the Molecular Dynamics Monte Carlo Method

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology has been applied successfully in recent decades to reduce carbon emissions and alleviate global warming. In this regard, shale reservoirs present tremendous potential for carbon dioxide (CO2) sequestration as they have a large number of nanopores. Molecular dynamics (MD) and MD-Monte Carlo (MDMC) methods were employed in this work to study the absorption behavior of CO2 in shale organic porous media. The MDMC method is used to analyze the spatial states of CO2, and the results are in good agreement with MD results, and it also performs well in the acceleration compared to the classical MD. With regard to the kerogen matrix, its properties, such as the pore size distribution (PSD), pore volume, and surface area, are determined to describe its different compression states and the effects of CO2 absorption on it. The potential energy distribution and potential of mean force are analyzed to verify the spatial distribution of CO2 molecules. The heterogeneity of the pore structure resulted in heterogeneous distributions of CO2 molecules in kerogen porous media. Moreover, strong compression of the matrix reduces the number of large pores, and the PSD is mainly between 0 and 15 Angstrom. Despite the high interaction force of the kerogen matrix, the high-potential-energy region induced by the kerogen skeleton also contributes to the formation of low-energy regions that encourage the entry of CO2. An increase in temperature facilitates the absorption process, allowing CO2 molecules to enter the isolated pores with stronger thermal motion, thereby increasing the storage capacity for CO2. However, the development of geothermal energy may not be suitable for CO2 sequestration.

TableGPT: Towards Unifying Tables, Nature Language and Commands into One GPT

Tables are prevalent in real-world databases, requiring significant time and effort for humans to analyze and manipulate. The advancements in large language models (LLMs) have made it possible to interact with tables using natural language input, bringing this capability closer to reality. In this paper, we present TableGPT, a unified fine-tuned framework that enables LLMs to understand and operate on tables using external functional commands. It introduces the capability to seamlessly interact with tables, enabling a wide range of functionalities such as question answering, data manipulation (e.g., insert, delete, query, and modify operations), data visualization, analysis report generation, and automated prediction. TableGPT aims to provide convenience and accessibility to users by empowering them to effortlessly leverage tabular data. At the core of TableGPT lies the novel concept of global tabular representations, which empowers LLMs to gain a comprehensive understanding of the entire table beyond meta-information. By jointly training LLMs on both table and text modalities, TableGPT achieves a deep understanding of tabular data and the ability to perform complex operations on tables through chain-of-command instructions. Importantly, TableGPT offers the advantage of being a self-contained system rather than relying on external API interfaces. Moreover, it supports efficient data process flow, query rejection (when appropriate) and private deployment, enabling faster domain data fine-tuning and ensuring data privacy, which enhances the framework's adaptability to specific use cases.

Flashlight Search Medial Axis: A Pixel-Free Pore-Network Extraction Algorithm

Pore-network models (PNMs) have become an important tool in the study of fluid flow in porous media over the last few decades, and the accuracy of their results highly depends on the extraction of pore networks. Traditional methods of pore-network extraction are based on pixels and require images with high quality. Here, a pixel-free method called the flashlight search medial axis (FSMA) algorithm is proposed for pore-network extraction in a continuous space. The search domain in a two-dimensional space is a line, whereas a surface domain is searched in a three-dimensional scenario. Thus, the FSMA algorithm follows the dimensionality reduction idea; the medial axis can be identified using only a few points instead of calculating every point in the void space. In this way, computational complexity of this method is greatly reduced compared to that of traditional pixel-based extraction methods, thus enabling large-scale pore-network extraction. Based on cases featuring two- and three-dimensional porous media, the FSMA algorithm performs well regardless of the topological structure of the pore network or the positions of the pore and throat centers. This algorithm can also be used to examine both closed- and open-boundary cases. Finally, the FSMA algorithm can search dead-end pores, which is of great significance in the study of multiphase flow in porous media.
