Intrinsic coherence in assisted sub-state discrimination

We study intrinsic coherence in the tripartite process to unambiguously discriminate two nonorthogonal states of a qubit, entangled with another one, and assisted by an auxiliary system. The optimal success probability is found to be benefited by initial intrinsic coherence, but no extra one is required. The transformations among different contributions of intrinsic coherence are necessary in this procedure, which increase with the overlap between the states to recognize. Such state discrimination is a key step of the probabilistic teleportation protocol. Entanglement of the quantum channel decreases the coherence characterizing the reliance on an ancilla.

Phosphorylation potential and chemical fluxes govern the biological performance of multiple PdP cycles

Fission yeast G2/M transition is regulated by a biochemical reaction networks which contains four components: Cdc13, Cdc2, Wee1, and Cdc25. This circuit is characterized by the ultrasensitive responses of Wee1 or Cdc25 to Cdc13/Cdc2 activity, and the bistability of Cdc2 activation. Previous work has shown that this bistability is governed by phosphorylation energy. In this article, we developed the kinetic model of this circuit and conducted further thermodynamic analysis on the role of phosphorylation energy (&[Delta]G). We showed that level &[Delta]G shapes the response curves of Wee1 or Cdc25 to Cdc2 and governs the intrinsic noise level of Cdc2 activity. More importantly, the mutually antagonistic chemical fluxes around the PdP cycles in G2/M circuit were shown to act as a stabilizer of Cdc2 activity against &[Delta]G fluctuations. These results suggests the fundamental role of free energy and chemical fluxes on the sensitivity, bistability and robustness of G2/M transition.

Generation of femtosecond optical vortex beams in all-fiber mode-locked fiber laser using mode selective coupler

We experimentally demonstrated a high-order optical vortex pulsed laser based on a mode selective all-fiber fused coupler composed of a single-mode fiber (SMF) and a few-mode fiber (FMF). The fused SMF-FMF coupler inserted in the cavity not only acts as mode converter from LP01 mode to LP11 or LP21 modes with a broadband width over 100 nm, but also directly delivers femtosecond vortex pulses out of the mode locked cavity. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the generation of high-order pulse vortex beams in mode-locked fiber laser. The generated 140 femtosecond vortex beam has a spectral width of 67 nm centered at 1544 nm.

Development of a Burst Buffer System for Data-Intensive Applications

Modern parallel filesystems such as Lustre are designed to provide high, scalable I/O bandwidth in response to growing I/O requirements; however, the bursty I/O characteristics of many data-intensive scientific applications make it difficult for back-end parallel filesystems to efficiently handle I/O requests. A burst buffer system, through which data can be temporarily buffered via high-performance storage mediums, allows for gradual flushing of data to back-end filesystems. In this paper, we explore issues surrounding the development of a burst buffer system for data-intensive scientific applications. Our initial results demonstrate that utilizing a burst buffer system on top of the Lustre filesystem shows promise for dealing with the intense I/O traffic generated by application checkpointing.

Stability of Superposition of Viscous Contact Wave and Rarefaction Waves for Compressible Navier-Stokes System

This paper is concerned with the large-time behavior of solutions for the one-dimensional compressible Navier-Stokes system. We show that the combination of viscous contact wave with rarefaction waves for the non-isentropic polytropic gas is stable under \emph{large} initial perturbation without the condition that the adiabatic exponent $γ$ is close to 1, provided the strength of the combination waves is suitably small.

A blow-up criterion of strong solutions to the 2D compressible magnetohydrodynamic equations

This paper establishes a blow-up criterion of strong solutions to the two-dimensional compressible magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flows. The criterion depends on the density, but is independent of the velocity and the magnetic field. More precisely, once the strong solutions blow up, the $L^{\infty}$-norm for the density tends to infinity. In particular, the vacuum in the solutions is allowed.

The limit to rarefaction wave with vacuum for 1D compressible fluids with temperature-dependent viscosities

In this paper we study the zero dissipation limit of the one-dimensional full compressible Navier-Stokes(CNS) equations with temperature-dependent viscosity and heat-conduction coefficient. It is proved that given a rarefaction wave with one-side vacuum state to the full compressible Euler equations, we can construct a sequence of solutions to the full CNS equations which converge to the above rarefaction wave with vacuum as the viscosity and the heat conduction coefficient tend to zero. Moreover, the uniform convergence rate is obtained. The main difficulty in our proof lies in the degeneracies of the density, the temperature and the temperature-dependent viscosities at the vacuum region in the zero dissipation limit.

B_c meson rare decays in the light-cone quark model

We investigate the rare decays $B_c \rightarrow D_s(1968) \ell \bar{\ell}$ and $B_c\rightarrow D_s^*(2317) \ell \bar{\ell}$ in the framework of the light-cone quark model (LCQM). The transition form factors are calculated in the space-like region and then analytically continued to the time-like region via exponential parametrization. The branching ratios and longitudinal lepton polarization asymmetries (LPAs) for the two decays are given and compared with each other. The results are helpful to investigating the structure of $B_c$ meson and to testing the unitarity of CKM quark mixing matrix. All these results can be tested in the future experiments at the LHC.

Zero-Mode Contribution in Nucleon-Delta Transition

We investigate the transition form factors between nucleon and $Δ$(1232) particles by using a covariant quark-spectator-diquark field theory model in (3+1) dimensions. Performing a light-front calculation in parallel with the manifestly covariant calculation in light-front helicity basis, we examine the light-front zero-mode contribution to the helicity components of light-front good ("+") current matrix elements. Choosing the light-front gauge ($ε^+_{h=\pm}=0$) with circular polarization in Drell-Yan-West frame, we find that only the helicity components $({1\over 2}, {1\over 2})$ and $({1\over 2},-{1\over 2})$ of the good current receive the zero-mode contribution. Taking into account the zero-mode, we find the prescription independence in obtaining the light-front solution of form factors from any three helicity matrix elements with smeared light-front wavefunctions. The angular condition, which guarantees the full covariance of different schemes, is recovered.
