Renormalization and Factorization Scale-Invariant Predictions for the $e^+e^-\to J/ψ+η_c$ process at $B$ factories

We perform a NNLO perturbative QCD analysis for exclusive double charmonium production $e^+e^-\to J/ψ+η_c$ within the NRQCD factorization formalism using the Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC). It is well known that this charmonium process suffers poor pQCD convergence, as well as large renormalization scale uncertainty. The PMC is used to remove conventional renormalization scale uncertainty. Based on two fundamental physical processes of charmonium, $J/ψ\rightarrow e^+e^-$ and $η_c\rightarrowγγ$, and using the NNLO perturbative results together with experimental measurements, we extract the factorization-scale-dependent long-distance matrix elements for $J/ψ$ and $η_c$. Combining these two matrix elements with the factorization-scale-dependent short-distance coefficient, we obtain predictions that are independent of the factorization scale for the $e^+e^-\to J/ψ+η_c$ process. Our predictions agree with the measurement from the BaBar collaborations within errors. Remarkably, we provide a new way to eliminate conventional renormalization and factorization scale ambiguities for the $e^+e^-\to J/ψ+η_c$ process. We further demonstrate that the slow convergence of the pQCD series is an intrinsic property of this double-charmonium process.

Tropical Cyclone Attributes in Sparse Autoencoder Features of an AI Weather Model

Artificial intelligence (AI) weather models now forecast weather events skillfully, but how they represent these events internally remains unknown. Sparse autoencoders (SAEs) provide sparse features for probing hidden states, but how information about multiple physical attributes of an event is organized across them remains unclear. Using tropical cyclones in GraphCast as a test case, we analyze 2,115 six-hourly timesteps from 205 cyclones, relating SAE activations to position, intensity, and pressure structure across five Layer-8 decompositions and 16 processor layers. Each attribute relates to multiple features; position and pressure-structure relations overlap in a smaller subset. This organization recurs across independent SAEs and layers without feature alignment. In deeper layers, the leading position feature aligns better with position and pressure structure six hours ahead than at present. These results suggest that the organization of physical-attribute relations provides a reproducible level of description for interpreting cyclone-related information in GraphCast.

Nuclear mass table in deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum, III: nuclei with $8 \leq Z \leq 120$

The mass table in the deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum (DRHBc) with the PC-PK1 density functional has been established for nuclei with $8 \leq Z \leq 120$, extended from the previous works for even-even nuclei [Zhang et al. (DRHBc mass table collaboration), At. Data Nucl. Data Tables 144, 101488 (2022)] and for even-$Z$ nuclei [Guo et al. (DRHBc mass table collaboration), At. Data Nucl. Data Tables 158, 101661 (2024)]. The calculated binding energies, two- and one-nucleon separation energies, root-mean-square (rms) radii of neutron, proton, matter, and charge distributions, quadrupole deformations, neutron and proton Fermi surfaces, and the blocked neutron (proton) orbitals of odd-$N$ ($Z$) nuclei are tabulated and compared with the available experimental data. A total of 9495 nuclei are predicted to be bound, with an rms deviation of 1.444 MeV from the 2380 mass data. Good agreement with the available experimental pairing gaps, $α$ decay energies, and charge radii is also achieved. The accuracies of the calculated nuclear masses and nucleon separation energies as well as the prediction for drip lines are compared with those obtained by other relativistic and nonrelativistic density functional calculations. It turns out that the DRHBc theory with PC-PK1 provides one of the best microscopic descriptions for nuclear masses. The systematics of nucleon separation energies, pairing gaps, pairing energies, two-nucleon gaps, $α$ decay energies, rms radii, quadrupole deformations, potential energy curves, neutron density distributions, and neutron mean-field potentials are discussed.

Analysis of $H \to J/ψ+γ$ up to Next-to-Next-to-Leading Order QCD Corrections

The rare exclusive decay of the Higgs boson $H \to J/ψ+ γ$ is an important channel for measuring the Yukawa coupling of the charm quark. In this article, we analyze the process by employing the Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC) up to the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in QCD. Conventional scale setting leads to theoretical predictions affected by errors dominated by renormalization scale uncertainty. The PMC provides a systematic method to eliminate this renormalization scale uncertainty by resumming non-conformal $β$ contributions into the QCD running coupling via renormalization group equation (RGE). We obtain a PMC scale result of $Q_\star = 3.29\ \text{GeV}$, which reflects the low virtuality of the underlying QCD dynamics for the $H \to J/ψ+ γ$ process. In fact, this is an order of magnitude smaller than the guessed scale using the conventional method, i.e., $μ_r = m_H/2$. By removing non-conformal $\{β_i\}$-terms from the perturbative QCD (pQCD) series, the PMC eliminates renormalization scale uncertainty. Comparing results, we find that the PMC NLO QCD correction term is significantly enhanced, while the PMC NNLO QCD correction is suppressed. This indicates improved convergence of the pQCD series up to NNLO. Finally, we determine the decay width $Γ(H \to J/ψ+ γ) = 14.183^{+0.249}_{-0.347} \pm 0.022$ eV, where the first error arises from the factorization scale $μ_Λ\in [1, 2]\ \text{GeV}$, and the second error from estimating unknown higher-order terms using the Pade approximant approach. The corresponding branching fraction is $\mathcal{B}(H \to J/ψ+ γ) = 3.485_{-0.161}^{+0.152} \times 10^{-6}$.

Anthropogenic Heat in Urban Climate Systems: Forcing, Sensitivity, and Feedback

Anthropogenic heat flux, the heat released to the environment from human activities such as building energy use, transportation, industrial processes, and human metabolism, is a defining feature of the urban climate system. It is an important contributor to the urban heat island (UHI) effect and influences a wide range of urban meteorological processes. Its significance extends beyond urban climatology because of its close connections to energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and climate adaptation. Despite decades of research, anthropogenic heat flux remains one of the least well-constrained components of the urban energy balance. Moreover, its climatic significance has often been assessed from an applied perspective, with less emphasis on developing transferable physical understanding of how anthropogenic heat flux acts as a forcing, how urban temperatures respond, and how feedbacks modify that response. This review develops a forcing-response-feedback framework for synthesizing current understanding of the role of anthropogenic heat flux in the urban climate system and identifies priorities for future research.

Generation of Ultrabrilliant Positron Beam via Superponderomotive Injection in Laser Wakefield Acceleration

Plasma-based acceleration of positrons attracts extensive interest owing to the ultrahigh accelerating gradient and ultrashort duration, while generating wakefield positron beam by the inherent injection is still a great challenge. Here, we put forward a superponderomotive injection method of positrons in the blowout regime of laser wakefield acceleration. The dephasing-rate integral equation reveals a twofold mechanism: the longitudinal laser field delays phase-locking, guiding positrons into the paraxial focusing region, while the transverse laser Lorentz force suppresses the dephasing rate below unity, trapping them into the laser-modulated wakefield. Particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations demonstrate this via a donut-wake--pair-jet collision, generating low-emittance ($\sim$0.05~mm~mrad) multicycle positron beams. Start-to-end simulations for post-acceleration in the second-stage donut wakefield confirm high-throughput injection-to-acceleration coupling, yielding quasi-monoenergetic beam with six-dimensional brightness $\sim 10^{15}~\rm{A/m^2}/0.1\%$. This plasma-based injection-acceleration scheme opens a novel compact route to ultrabrilliant positron sources for ultrafast material diagnostics, laboratory astrophysics, and next-generation electron--positron colliders.

RT-DocLayout: Real-Time End-to-End Document Layout Analysis with Reading Order in the Wild

Accurate document layout analysis remains a critical bottleneck for document parsing systems, due to the intricate coupling among heterogeneous document layout elements, geometric distortions (\eg, paper warping and bending, perspective variations), and reading order within diverse layout structures. Existing approaches typically rely on fragmented multi-stage pipelines or computationally heavy generative Transformer architectures, leading to error propagation and limited efficiency. In this paper, we present RT-DocLayout, a highly efficient end-to-end framework for document layout analysis, designed as a front-end for document parsing tasks. The proposed model unifies classification, detection, pixel-level segmentation, and reading order prediction for layout elements within a single 33M-parameter architecture. Built upon the RT-DETR, our key contribution is a unified multi-task formulation within a single query-based decoder that simultaneously classifies, regresses bounding box, generates masks, and constructs relationship to reason reading order. By jointly learning geometric and structural representations, RT-DocLayout introduces multi-task optimization that substantially improves robustness under real-world document distortions. Extensive experiments on public benchmarks demonstrate state-of-the-art performance in document layout analysis while maintaining real-time inference speed(132.1 FPS). When coupled with downstream OCR engines, RT-DocLayout significantly improves full-document reconstruction quality, providing a scalable and practical foundation for real-world document intelligence systems.

PP-OCRv6: From 1.5M to 34.5M Parameters, Surpassing Billion-Scale VLMs on OCR Tasks

Vision-Language Models (VLMs) have achieved impressive results on general vision-language tasks, yet they suffer from hallucination, imprecise localization, and prohibitive computational cost when applied to dedicated OCR scenarios. This paper presents PP-OCRv6, a lightweight OCR system that combines architectural innovation with data-centric optimization. PP-OCRv6 redesigns the backbone, detection neck, and recognition neck around a unified MetaFormer-style building block with structural reparameterization, decoupling spatial token mixing from channel mixing and supporting both tasks through task-specific stride configurations. Three model tiers (medium, small, tiny) share the same block primitives, covering deployment scenarios from server to edge. On our in-house benchmarks, PP-OCRv6_medium achieves 83.2% recognition accuracy and 86.2% detection Hmean, outperforming PP-OCRv5_server by +5.1% and +4.6% respectively while surpassing Qwen3-VL-235B, GPT-5.5, and Gemini-3.1-Pro with orders of magnitude fewer parameters. The tiny tier achieves 3.9$\times$ faster inference than PP-OCRv5_mobile on Intel Xeon CPU while maintaining comparable accuracy.

PaddleOCR-VL-1.6: Expanding the Frontier of Document Parsing with Under-Optimized Region Refinement and Progressive Post-Training

We introduce PaddleOCR-VL-1.6, an upgraded compact document parsing model built upon PaddleOCR-VL-1.5. Although PaddleOCR-VL-1.5 establishes a strong 0.9B baseline, its remaining errors concentrate in under-optimized regions where model behavior is unstable, data coverage is sparse, or supervision is unreliable. Rather than expanding the training corpus indiscriminately, PaddleOCR-VL-1.6 introduces a region-aware data optimization framework that identifies weak regions from the previous model, applies targeted enhancement to these regions, and improves the reliability of supervision signals. It further adopts a progressive post-training recipe based on curated data selection and reinforcement learning, pushing model performance to a higher level through staged optimization. PaddleOCR-VL-1.6 achieves a new state-of-the-art score of 96.33% on OmniDocBench v1.6, demonstrates strong competitiveness against top-tier VLMs, and provides a practical post-training recipe for the PaddleOCR-VL series.

BatchWeave: A Consistent Object-Store-Native Data Plane for Large Foundation Model Training

Modern Large Foundation Model (LFM) training has transformed the data pipeline from a static ingestion layer into a dynamic component that must co-evolve with the training process. Existing systems are ill-equipped: colocated dataloaders offer no failure isolation, while message queue-based disaggregated dataloaders operate on a record/offset abstraction that cannot express the batch-level semantics required by distributed training. We present BatchWeave, an object-store-native training data plane for distributed LFM training. BatchWeave uses versioned manifests and conditional object writes to coordinate batch publication, recovery, and lifecycle management. First, it introduces the Transactional Global Batch (TGB), which builds on versioned-manifest ACID storage semantics and extends them with training-specific consistency, including atomic all-rank batch visibility, a globally ordered step sequence, checkpoint-aligned lifecycle management, and end-to-end exactly-once recovery. Second, it realizes recovery and retention directly in the storage layer, by durably persisting producer state through the commit protocol and tying reclamation to distributed checkpoint state. Third, its Decentralized Adaptive Commit (DAC) algorithm sustains stable ingestion throughput as the manifest grows, without any inter-producer communication. Evaluations on large-scale multimodal pre-training and SFT workloads using 64 GPUs show that BatchWeave outperforms colocated dataloader throughput while providing full failure isolation, outperforms Apache Kafka in ingestion throughput, and achieves lower consumer read latency than Kafka.

GameGen-Verifier: Parallel Keypoint-Based Verification for LLM-Generated Games via Runtime State Injection

LLM-based game generation promises to turn natural-language specifications into executable games, but progress is limited by the lack of reliable automated verification. Unlike conventional code generation, game correctness is defined over long-horizon interaction: a game may appear correct while violating core mechanics such as state updates, interaction rules, and phase transitions. Existing Agent-as-a-Verifier approaches collapse verification into open-ended gameplay, making verdicts reachability-bound, time-consuming, coverage-limited, and sensitive to the agent's gameplay ability. We present GameGen-Verifier, an automated verification paradigm for LLM-generated games that decomposes a specification into verifiable keypoints and grounds them into independent verification units. Each unit patches the game runtime into a concrete target state, executes a bounded interaction, and judges the outcome against the keypoint assertion. We implement GGV-Harness, a scalable agentic harness providing concurrency management, runtime isolation, and fault recovery. On VeriGame, our dataset of 100 games across seven genres, GameGen-Verifier achieves up to 92.2% accuracy against human judgments versus 58.8% for the coverage-enforced Agent-as-a-Verifier baseline, while reducing wall-clock time by up to 16.6x.

Boosting Document Parsing Efficiency and Performance with Coarse-to-Fine Visual Processing

Document parsing is a fine-grained task where image resolution significantly impacts performance. While advanced research leveraging vision-language models benefits from high-resolution input to boost model performance, this often leads to a quadratic increase in the number of vision tokens and significantly raises computational costs. We attribute this inefficiency to substantial visual regions redundancy in document images, like background. To tackle this, we propose PaddleOCR-VL, a novel coarse-to-fine architecture that focuses on semantically relevant regions while suppressing redundant ones, thereby improving both efficiency and performance. Specifically, we introduce a lightweight Valid Region Focus Module (VRFM) which leverages localization and contextual relationship prediction capabilities to identify valid vision tokens. Subsequently, we design and train a compact yet powerful 0.9B vision-language model (PaddleOCR-VL-0.9B) to perform detailed recognition, guided by VRFM outputs to avoid direct processing of the entire large image. Extensive experiments demonstrate that PaddleOCR-VL achieves state-of-the-art performance in both page-level parsing and element-level recognition. It significantly outperforms existing solutions, exhibits strong competitiveness against top-tier VLMs, and delivers fast inference while utilizing substantially fewer vision tokens and parameters, highlighting the effectiveness of targeted coarse-to-fine parsing for accurate and efficient document understanding. PP-OCRv5: A Specialized 5M-Parameter Model Rivaling Billion-Parameter Vision-Language Models on OCR Tasks

The advent of "OCR 2.0" and large-scale vision-language models (VLMs) has set new benchmarks in text recognition. However, these unified architectures often come with significant computational demands, challenges in precise text localization within complex layouts, and a propensity for textual hallucinations. Revisiting the prevailing notion that model scale is the sole path to high accuracy, this paper introduces PP-OCRv5, a meticulously optimized, lightweight OCR system with merely 5 million parameters. We demonstrate that PP-OCRv5 achieves performance competitive with many billion-parameter VLMs on standard OCR benchmarks, while offering superior localization precision and reduced hallucinations. The cornerstone of our success lies not in architectural expansion but in a data-centric investigation. We systematically dissect the role of training data by quantifying three critical dimensions: data difficulty, data accuracy, and data diversity. Our extensive experiments reveal that with a sufficient volume of high-quality, accurately labeled, and diverse data, the performance ceiling for traditional, efficient two-stage OCR pipelines is far higher than commonly assumed. This work provides compelling evidence for the viability of lightweight, specialized models in the large-model era and offers practical insights into data curation for OCR. CheetahGIS: Architecting a Scalable and Efficient Streaming Spatial Query Processing System

Spatial data analytics systems are widely studied in both the academia and industry. However, existing systems are limited when handling a large number of moving objects and real time spatial queries. In this work, we architect a scalable and efficient system CheetahGIS to process streaming spatial queries over massive moving objects. In particular, CheetahGIS is built upon Apache Flink Stateful Functions (StateFun), an API for building distributed streaming applications with an actor-like model. CheetahGIS enjoys excellent scalability due to its modular architecture, which clearly decomposes different components and allows scaling individual components. To improve the efficiency and scalability of CheetahGIS, we devise a suite of optimizations, e.g., lightweight global grid-based index, metadata synchroniza tion strategies, and load balance mechanisms. We also formulate a generic paradigm for spatial query processing in CheetahGIS, and verify its generality by processing three representative streaming queries (i.e., object query, range count query, and k nearest neighbor query). We conduct extensive experiments on both real and synthetic datasets to evaluate CheetahGIS.

HyGen: Efficient LLM Serving via Elastic Online-Offline Request Co-location

Large language models (LLMs) have facilitated a wide range of applications with distinct service-level objectives (SLOs), from latency-sensitive online tasks like interactive chatbots to throughput-oriented offline workloads like data synthesis. The existing deployment model, which dedicates machines to each workload, simplifies SLO management but often leads to poor resource utilization. This paper introduces HyGen, an interference-aware LLM serving system that enables efficient co-location of online and offline workloads while preserving SLOs. HyGen incorporates two key innovations: (1) performance control mechanisms, including a latency predictor to estimate batch execution time and an SLO-aware profiler to quantify latency interference, and (2) SLO-aware offline scheduling policies that maximize serving throughput and prevent starvation. Our evaluation on production workloads shows that HyGen achieves up to 3.9-5.8x throughput gains over online and hybrid serving baselines, while ensuring latency SLOs. The code of HyGen is publicly available at https://github.com/UIUC-MLSys/HyGen.
