Potentially Good Reduction of Barsotti-Tate Groups

Let R be a complete discrete valuation ring of mixed characteristic (0, p) with perfect residue field, K the fraction field of R. Suppose G is a Barsotti-Tate group (p-divisible group) defined over K which acquires good reduction over a finite extension K' of K. We prove that there exists a constant c which depends on the absolute ramification index e(K'/Q_p) and the height of G such that G has good reduction over K if and only if G[p^c] can be extended to a finite flat group scheme over R. For abelian varieties with potentially good reduction, this result generalizes Grothendieck's p-adic Neron-Ogg-Shafarevich criterion to finite level. We use methods that can be generalized to study semi-stable p-adic Galois representations with general Hodge-Tate weights, and in particular leads to a proof of a conjecture of Fontaine and gives a constant c as above that is independent of the height of G.

Neutrino-Dominated Accretion Models for Gamma-Ray Bursts: Effects of General Relativity and Neutrino Opacity

We first refine the fixed concept in the literature that the usage of the Newtonian potential in studies of black hole accretion is invalid and the general relativistic effect must be considered. As our main results, we then show that the energy released by neutrino annihilation in neutrino-dominated accretion flows is sufficient for gamma-ray bursts when the contribution from the optically thick region of the flow is included, and that in the optically thick region advection does not necessarily dominate over neutrino cooling because the advection factor is relevant to the geometrical depth rather than the optical depth of the flow.

Steinitz class of Mordell groups of elliptic curves with complex multiplication

Let E be an elliptic curve having Complex Multiplication by the full ring O_K of integers of K=Q(\sqrt{-D}), let H=K(j(E)) be the Hilbert class field of K. Then the Mordell-Weil group E(H) is an O_K-module, and its structure denpends on its Steinitz class St(E), which is studied here. In partucular, when D is a prime number, it is proved that St(E)=1 if D\equiv 3 (mod 4); and St(E)=[P]^t if D\equiv 1 (mod 4), where [P] is the ideal class of K represented by prime factor P of 2 in K, t is a fixed integer. General structures are also discussed for St(E) and for modules over Dedekind domain. These results develop the results by D. Dummit and W. Miller for D=10 and some elliptic curves to more general D and general elliptic curves.
