Anti-scatter grid prototype manufactured via laser powder bed fusion of pure tungsten

This paper describes the production and tests performed with the tungsten collimator prototype produced using laser powder bed fusion technology in a converging geometry. This prototype has been tested for being the anti-scatter grid for X-ray imaging to reduce background from the scattered photons. The purpose is reducing patient radiation exposure in medical applications. Obtained results are positive, grid provides definitive enhancement in marker detection which proves to be especially useful with artificially created obstacles to imitate harsher working environments.

Calibration and performance of the LHCb calorimeters in Run 1 and 2 at the LHC

The calibration and performance of the LHCb Calorimeter system in Run 1 and 2 at the LHC are described. After a brief description of the sub-detectors and of their role in the trigger, the calibration methods used for each part of the system are reviewed. The changes which occurred with the increase of beam energy in Run 2 are explained. The performances of the calorimetry for $\gamma$ and $\pi^0$ are detailed. A few results from collisions recorded at $\sqrt {s}$ = 7, 8 and 13 TeV are shown.

New veto hodoscope ANTI-0 for the NA62 experiment at CERN

The NA62 experiment is a fixed-target experiment at CERN SPS. The main goal of the experiment is to measure the branching ratio of the ultra-rare kaon decay $K^{+}\to\pi^{+}\nu\bar\nu$. The NA62 detector allows also to study other rare kaon decays and to search for very weakly coupled particles of MeV-GeV mass-scale. The new ANTI-0 hodoscope is proposed and designed to veto events with charged halo particles entering the decay volume. It is now being assembled at CERN. The detector design, the performance simulation and the results of measurements with cosmic rays and test beams for the individual elements are presented. The commissioning and the first run of data-taking is scheduled for after the end of LS2 long shutdown (April 2021).

KLEVER: An experiment to measure BR($K_L\to\pi^0\nu\bar{\nu}$) at the CERN SPS

Precise measurements of the branching ratios for the flavor-changing neutral current decays $K\to\pi\nu\bar{\nu}$ can provide unique constraints on CKM unitarity and, potentially, evidence for new physics. It is important to measure both decay modes, $K^+\to\pi^+\nu\bar{\nu}$ and $K_L\to\pi^0\nu\bar{\nu}$, since different new physics models affect the rates for each channel differently. The goal of the NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS is to measure the BR for the charged channel to within 10%. For the neutral channel, the BR has never been measured. We are designing the KLEVER experiment to measure BR($K_L\to\pi^0\nu\bar{\nu}$) to $\sim$20% using a high-energy neutral beam at the CERN SPS starting in LHC Run 4. The boost from the high-energy beam facilitates the rejection of background channels such as $K_L\to\pi^0\pi^0$ by detection of the additional photons in the final state. On the other hand, the layout poses particular challenges for the design of the small-angle vetoes, which must reject photons from $K_L$ decays escaping through the beam exit amidst an intense background from soft photons and neutrons in the beam. Background from $\Lambda \to n\pi^0$ decays in the beam must also be kept under control. We present findings from our design studies for the beamline and experiment, with an emphasis on the challenges faced and the potential sensitivity for the measurement of BR($K_L\to\pi^0\nu\bar{\nu}$).

Observation of the destructive interference in the radiative kaon decay K- --> mu-nugamma

Using data collected with the ISTRA+ spectrometer at U70 proton synchrotron of IHEP, we report the first measurement of the destructive interference in the radiative kaon cecay K- -->mu-nugamma. We find the difference of the vector and axial form factors Fv-Fa=0.126+/-0.027+/-0.043. The measured value is two standard deviations above the O(p**4) ChPT prediction equal to 0.055. Inclusion of exotic tensor interaction gives Fv-Fa=0.144+/-0.044+/-0.035 and Ft=-0.0079+/-0.0113+/-0.0073, i.e. -0.03<Ft<0.01 at 90% CL,consistent both with zero and with recent theoretical prediction equal to |Ft|=0.022.

Observation of the radiative kaon decay K- --> mu-pi0gammanu

Using data collected with the ISTRA+ spectrometer during the 2001 run of the U-70 proton synchrotron in Protvino, we report the first observation of the radiative kaon decay K- -->mu-pi0gammanu. We find Br(Kmu3g)/Br(Kmu3) for two regions 5<Eg<30 and 30<Eg<60 MeV consistent with theoretical predictions. The measured angular distribution asymmetry for the first region, 0.093+/-0.141, is two standard deviations away from the theoretical prediction of 0.354. The measured asymmetry in the T-odd variable is -0.03+/-0.13.

Search for light pseudoscalar sgoldstino in K- decays

A search for the light pseudoscalar sgoldstino production in the three body K- decay K-->pipi0P has been performed with the ISTRA+ detector exposed to the 25 GeV negative secondary beam of the U70 proton synchrotron. No signal is seen. An upper limit for the branching ratio Br(K->pipi0P), at 90% confidence level, is found to be around 9*10**-6 in the effective mass m(P) range from 0 till 200 MeV, excluding the region near m(pi0) where it degrades to 3.5*10**-5.

Study of the K- -> mu- nu pi0 decay

The decay $K^{-} \to μ^{-} \barν π^{0}$ has been studied using in-flight decays detected with ``ISTRA+'' setup operating in the 25 GeV negative secondary beam of the U-70 PS. About 112K events were used for the analysis. The $λ_{+}$ and $λ_{0}$ slope parameters of the decay formfactors $f_{+}(t)$, $f_{0}(t)$ have been measured : $λ_{+}= 0.0321 \pm 0.004$(stat) $\pm 0.002$(syst) $λ_{0}= 0.0209 \pm 0.004$(stat) $\pm 0.002$(syst); the correlation $d λ_{0}/d λ_{+}=-0.46$ The limits on the possible tensor and scalar couplings have been derived: $f_{T}/f_{+}(0)=-0.021 \pm 0.028$(stat) $\pm 0.014$(theory); $f_{S}/f_{+}(0)=0.004 \pm 0.005$(stat) $\pm 0.005$(theory)

The decay K- -> pi0 e- nu has been studied using in-flight decays detected with "ISTRA+" setup operating at the 25 GeV negative secondary beam of the U-70 PS. About 130K events were used for the analysis. The lambda_+ parameter of the vector formfactor has been measured: lambda_+ = 0.0293 +- 0.0015(stat) +- 0.002(syst). An electromagnetic shashlik calorimeter with longitudinal segmentation

A novel technique for longitudinal segmentation of shashlik calorimeters has been tested in the CERN West Area beam facility. A 25 tower very fine samplings e.m. calorimeter has been built with vacuum photodiodes inserted in the first 8 radiation lengths to sample the initial development of the shower. Results concerning energy resolution, impact point reconstruction and electron/pion separation are reported.
