Sample Robust Scheduling of Electricity-Gas Systems Under Wind Power Uncertainty

This paper adopts a two-stage sample robust optimization (SRO) model to address the wind power penetrated unit commitment optimal energy flow (UC-OEF) problem for IEGSs. The two-stage SRO model can be approximately transformed into a computationally efficient form. Specifically, we employ linear decision rules to simplify the proposed UC-OEF model. Moreover, we further enhance the tractability of the simplified model by exploring its structural features and, accordingly, develop a solution method.

Detection-based Intermediate Supervision for Visual Question Answering

Recently, neural module networks (NMNs) have yielded ongoing success in answering compositional visual questions, especially those involving multi-hop visual and logical reasoning. NMNs decompose the complex question into several sub-tasks using instance-modules from the reasoning paths of that question and then exploit intermediate supervisions to guide answer prediction, thereby improving inference interpretability. However, their performance may be hindered due to sketchy modeling of intermediate supervisions. For instance, (1) a prior assumption that each instance-module refers to only one grounded object yet overlooks other potentially associated grounded objects, impeding full cross-modal alignment learning; (2) IoU-based intermediate supervisions may introduce noise signals as the bounding box overlap issue might guide the model's focus towards irrelevant objects. To address these issues, a novel method, \textbf{\underline{D}}etection-based \textbf{\underline{I}}ntermediate \textbf{\underline{S}}upervision (DIS), is proposed, which adopts a generative detection framework to facilitate multiple grounding supervisions via sequence generation. As such, DIS offers more comprehensive and accurate intermediate supervisions, thereby boosting answer prediction performance. Furthermore, by considering intermediate results, DIS enhances the consistency in answering compositional questions and their sub-questions.Extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of our proposed DIS, showcasing both improved accuracy and state-of-the-art reasoning consistency compared to prior approaches.

On Task-personalized Multimodal Few-shot Learning for Visually-rich Document Entity Retrieval

Visually-rich document entity retrieval (VDER), which extracts key information (e.g. date, address) from document images like invoices and receipts, has become an important topic in industrial NLP applications. The emergence of new document types at a constant pace, each with its unique entity types, presents a unique challenge: many documents contain unseen entity types that occur only a couple of times. Addressing this challenge requires models to have the ability of learning entities in a few-shot manner. However, prior works for Few-shot VDER mainly address the problem at the document level with a predefined global entity space, which doesn't account for the entity-level few-shot scenario: target entity types are locally personalized by each task and entity occurrences vary significantly among documents. To address this unexplored scenario, this paper studies a novel entity-level few-shot VDER task. The challenges lie in the uniqueness of the label space for each task and the increased complexity of out-of-distribution (OOD) contents. To tackle this novel task, we present a task-aware meta-learning based framework, with a central focus on achieving effective task personalization that distinguishes between in-task and out-of-task distribution. Specifically, we adopt a hierarchical decoder (HC) and employ contrastive learning (ContrastProtoNet) to achieve this goal. Furthermore, we introduce a new dataset, FewVEX, to boost future research in the field of entity-level few-shot VDER. Experimental results demonstrate our approaches significantly improve the robustness of popular meta-learning baselines.

Synchronization of Differential Equations Driven by Linear Multiplicative Fractional Brownian Motion

This paper is devoted to the synchronization of stochastic differential equations driven by the linear multiplicative fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H\in(\frac{1}{2},1)$. We firstly prove that the equation has a unique stationary solution which generates a random dynamical system. Moreover the system has the pathwise singleton sets random attractor. Next we show up the synchronization of solutions of two coupled differential equations. At the end, we discuss two specific situations and provide the corresponding synchronization results.

HiFi Tuner: High-Fidelity Subject-Driven Fine-Tuning for Diffusion Models

This paper explores advancements in high-fidelity personalized image generation through the utilization of pre-trained text-to-image diffusion models. While previous approaches have made significant strides in generating versatile scenes based on text descriptions and a few input images, challenges persist in maintaining the subject fidelity within the generated images. In this work, we introduce an innovative algorithm named HiFi Tuner to enhance the appearance preservation of objects during personalized image generation. Our proposed method employs a parameter-efficient fine-tuning framework, comprising a denoising process and a pivotal inversion process. Key enhancements include the utilization of mask guidance, a novel parameter regularization technique, and the incorporation of step-wise subject representations to elevate the sample fidelity. Additionally, we propose a reference-guided generation approach that leverages the pivotal inversion of a reference image to mitigate unwanted subject variations and artifacts. We further extend our method to a novel image editing task: substituting the subject in an image through textual manipulations. Experimental evaluations conducted on the DreamBooth dataset using the Stable Diffusion model showcase promising results. Fine-tuning solely on textual embeddings improves CLIP-T score by 3.6 points and improves DINO score by 9.6 points over Textual Inversion. When fine-tuning all parameters, HiFi Tuner improves CLIP-T score by 1.2 points and improves DINO score by 1.2 points over DreamBooth, establishing a new state of the art.

Beam test of a 180 nm CMOS Pixel Sensor for the CEPC vertex detector

The proposed Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) imposes new challenges for the vertex detector in terms of pixel size and material budget. A Monolithic Active Pixel Sensor (MAPS) prototype called TaichuPix, based on a column drain readout architecture, has been developed to address the need for high spatial resolution. In order to evaluate the performance of the TaichuPix-3 chips, a beam test was carried out at DESY II TB21 in December 2022. Meanwhile, the Data Acquisition (DAQ) for a muti-plane configuration was tested during the beam test. This work presents the characterization of the TaichuPix-3 chips with two different processes, including cluster size, spatial resolution, and detection efficiency. The analysis results indicate the spatial resolution better than 5 $μm$ and the detection efficiency exceeds 99.5 % for both TaichuPix-3 chips with the two different processes.

DocumentNet: Bridging the Data Gap in Document Pre-Training

Document understanding tasks, in particular, Visually-rich Document Entity Retrieval (VDER), have gained significant attention in recent years thanks to their broad applications in enterprise AI. However, publicly available data have been scarce for these tasks due to strict privacy constraints and high annotation costs. To make things worse, the non-overlapping entity spaces from different datasets hinder the knowledge transfer between document types. In this paper, we propose a method to collect massive-scale and weakly labeled data from the web to benefit the training of VDER models. The collected dataset, named DocumentNet, does not depend on specific document types or entity sets, making it universally applicable to all VDER tasks. The current DocumentNet consists of 30M documents spanning nearly 400 document types organized in a four-level ontology. Experiments on a set of broadly adopted VDER tasks show significant improvements when DocumentNet is incorporated into the pre-training for both classic and few-shot learning settings. With the recent emergence of large language models (LLMs), DocumentNet provides a large data source to extend their multi-modal capabilities for VDER.

Adapt Anything: Tailor Any Image Classifiers across Domains And Categories Using Text-to-Image Diffusion Models

We do not pursue a novel method in this paper, but aim to study if a modern text-to-image diffusion model can tailor any task-adaptive image classifier across domains and categories. Existing domain adaptive image classification works exploit both source and target data for domain alignment so as to transfer the knowledge learned from the labeled source data to the unlabeled target data. However, as the development of the text-to-image diffusion model, we wonder if the high-fidelity synthetic data from the text-to-image generator can serve as a surrogate of the source data in real world. In this way, we do not need to collect and annotate the source data for each domain adaptation task in a one-for-one manner. Instead, we utilize only one off-the-shelf text-to-image model to synthesize images with category labels derived from the corresponding text prompts, and then leverage the surrogate data as a bridge to transfer the knowledge embedded in the task-agnostic text-to-image generator to the task-oriented image classifier via domain adaptation. Such a one-for-all adaptation paradigm allows us to adapt anything in the world using only one text-to-image generator as well as the corresponding unlabeled target data. Extensive experiments validate the feasibility of the proposed idea, which even surpasses the state-of-the-art domain adaptation works using the source data collected and annotated in real world.

Skipped Feature Pyramid Network with Grid Anchor for Object Detection

CNN-based object detection methods have achieved significant progress in recent years. The classic structures of CNNs produce pyramid-like feature maps due to the pooling or other re-scale operations. The feature maps in different levels of the feature pyramid are used to detect objects with different scales. For more accurate object detection, the highest-level feature, which has the lowest resolution and contains the strongest semantics, is up-scaled and connected with the lower-level features to enhance the semantics in the lower-level features. However, the classic mode of feature connection combines the feature of lower-level with all the features above it, which may result in semantics degradation. In this paper, we propose a skipped connection to obtain stronger semantics at each level of the feature pyramid. In our method, the lower-level feature only connects with the feature at the highest level, making it more reasonable that each level is responsible for detecting objects with fixed scales. In addition, we simplify the generation of anchor for bounding box regression, which can further improve the accuracy of object detection. The experiments on the MS COCO and Wider Face demonstrate that our method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods.

MIRACLE: Towards Personalized Dialogue Generation with Latent-Space Multiple Personal Attribute Control

Personalized dialogue systems aim to endow the chatbot agent with more anthropomorphic traits for human-like interactions. Previous approaches have explored explicitly user profile modeling using text descriptions, implicit derivation of user embeddings, or utilizing handicraft prompts for ChatGPT-like models. However, textual personas are limited in describing multi-faceted attributes (\emph{e.g.}, \emph{language style, inner character nuances}), implicit embedding suffers from personality sparsity, and handicraft prompts lack fine-grained and stable controllability. Hence, these approaches may struggle with complex personalized dialogue generation tasks that require generating controllable responses with multiple personal attributes. To this end, we propose \textbf{\textsc{Miracle}}, a novel personalized dialogue generation method through \textbf{M}ult\textbf{I}ple Pe\textbf{R}sonal \textbf{A}ttributes \textbf{C}ontrol within \textbf{L}atent-Space \textbf{E}nergy-based Models. ttributes \textbf{C}ontrol within \textbf{L}atent-Space \textbf{E}nergy-based Models. Specifically, our approach first disentangles complex personality into multi-faceted attributes. Subsequently, we employ a conditional variational auto-encoder to align with the dense personalized responses within a latent joint attribute space. We have also tailored a dedicated energy function and customized the ordinary differential equations sampling method to offer flexible attribute composition and precise attribute control. Extensive experiments demonstrate that \textsc{Miracle} outperforms several strong baselines in terms of personality controllability and response generation quality. Multi-Relational Contrastive Learning for Recommendation

Personalized recommender systems play a crucial role in capturing users' evolving preferences over time to provide accurate and effective recommendations on various online platforms. However, many recommendation models rely on a single type of behavior learning, which limits their ability to represent the complex relationships between users and items in real-life scenarios. In such situations, users interact with items in multiple ways, including clicking, tagging as favorite, reviewing, and purchasing. To address this issue, we propose the Relation-aware Contrastive Learning (RCL) framework, which effectively models dynamic interaction heterogeneity. The RCL model incorporates a multi-relational graph encoder that captures short-term preference heterogeneity while preserving the dedicated relation semantics for different types of user-item interactions. Moreover, we design a dynamic cross-relational memory network that enables the RCL model to capture users' long-term multi-behavior preferences and the underlying evolving cross-type behavior dependencies over time. To obtain robust and informative user representations with both commonality and diversity across multi-behavior interactions, we introduce a multi-relational contrastive learning paradigm with heterogeneous short- and long-term interest modeling. Our extensive experimental studies on several real-world datasets demonstrate the superiority of the RCL recommender system over various state-of-the-art baselines in terms of recommendation accuracy and effectiveness.

Multi Task Consistency Guided Source-Free Test-Time Domain Adaptation Medical Image Segmentation

Source-free test-time adaptation for medical image segmentation aims to enhance the adaptability of segmentation models to diverse and previously unseen test sets of the target domain, which contributes to the generalizability and robustness of medical image segmentation models without access to the source domain. Ensuring consistency between target edges and paired inputs is crucial for test-time adaptation. To improve the performance of test-time domain adaptation, we propose a multi task consistency guided source-free test-time domain adaptation medical image segmentation method which ensures the consistency of the local boundary predictions and the global prototype representation. Specifically, we introduce a local boundary consistency constraint method that explores the relationship between tissue region segmentation and tissue boundary localization tasks. Additionally, we propose a global feature consistency constraint toto enhance the intra-class compactness. We conduct extensive experiments on the segmentation of benchmark fundus images. Compared to prediction directly by the source domain model, the segmentation Dice score is improved by 6.27\% and 0.96\% in RIM-ONE-r3 and Drishti GS datasets, respectively. Additionally, the results of experiments demonstrate that our proposed method outperforms existing competitive domain adaptation segmentation algorithms.

Semi-Implicit Denoising Diffusion Models (SIDDMs)

Despite the proliferation of generative models, achieving fast sampling during inference without compromising sample diversity and quality remains challenging. Existing models such as Denoising Diffusion Probabilistic Models (DDPM) deliver high-quality, diverse samples but are slowed by an inherently high number of iterative steps. The Denoising Diffusion Generative Adversarial Networks (DDGAN) attempted to circumvent this limitation by integrating a GAN model for larger jumps in the diffusion process. However, DDGAN encountered scalability limitations when applied to large datasets. To address these limitations, we introduce a novel approach that tackles the problem by matching implicit and explicit factors. More specifically, our approach involves utilizing an implicit model to match the marginal distributions of noisy data and the explicit conditional distribution of the forward diffusion. This combination allows us to effectively match the joint denoising distributions. Unlike DDPM but similar to DDGAN, we do not enforce a parametric distribution for the reverse step, enabling us to take large steps during inference. Similar to the DDPM but unlike DDGAN, we take advantage of the exact form of the diffusion process. We demonstrate that our proposed method obtains comparable generative performance to diffusion-based models and vastly superior results to models with a small number of sampling steps.

Parallel in-memory wireless computing

Parallel wireless digital communication with ultralow power consumption is critical for emerging edge technologies such as 5G and Internet of Things. However, the physical separation between digital computing units and analogue transmission units in traditional wireless technology leads to high power consumption. Here we report a parallel in-memory wireless computing scheme. The approach combines in-memory computing with wireless communication using memristive crossbar arrays. We show that the system can be used for the radio transmission of a binary stream of 480 bits with a bit error rate of 0. The in-memory wireless computing uses two orders of magnitude less power than conventional technology (based on digital-to-analogue and analogue-to-digital converters). We also show that the approach can be applied to acoustic and optical wireless communications

VRDU: A Benchmark for Visually-rich Document Understanding

Understanding visually-rich business documents to extract structured data and automate business workflows has been receiving attention both in academia and industry. Although recent multi-modal language models have achieved impressive results, we find that existing benchmarks do not reflect the complexity of real documents seen in industry. In this work, we identify the desiderata for a more comprehensive benchmark and propose one we call Visually Rich Document Understanding (VRDU). VRDU contains two datasets that represent several challenges: rich schema including diverse data types as well as hierarchical entities, complex templates including tables and multi-column layouts, and diversity of different layouts (templates) within a single document type. We design few-shot and conventional experiment settings along with a carefully designed matching algorithm to evaluate extraction results. We report the performance of strong baselines and offer three observations: (1) generalizing to new document templates is still very challenging, (2) few-shot performance has a lot of headroom, and (3) models struggle with hierarchical fields such as line-items in an invoice. We plan to open source the benchmark and the evaluation toolkit. We hope this helps the community make progress on these challenging tasks in extracting structured data from visually rich documents.

Large Deviations for SDE driven by Heavy-tailed Lévy Processes

We obtain sample-path large deviations for a class of one-dimensional stochastic differential equations with bounded drifts and heavy-tailed Lévy processes. These heavy-tailed Lévy processes do not satisfy the exponential integrability condition, which is a common restriction on the Lévy processes in existing large deviations contents. We further prove that the solution processes satisfy a weak large deviation principle with a discrete rate function and logarithmic speed. We also show that they do not satisfy the full large deviation principle.

The Most Likely Transition Path for a Class of Distribution-Dependent Stochastic Systems

Distribution-dependent stochastic dynamical systems arise widely in engineering and science. We consider a class of such systems which model the limit behaviors of interacting particles moving in a vector field with random fluctuations. We aim to examine the most likely transition path between equilibrium stable states of the vector field. In the small noise regime, the action functional does not involve the solution of the skeleton equation which describes the unperturbed deterministic flow of the vector field shifted by the interaction at zero distance. As a result, we are led to study the most likely transition path for a stochastic differential equation without distribution dependency. This enables the computation of the most likely transition path for these distribution-dependent stochastic dynamical systems by the adaptive minimum action method and we illustrate our approach in two examples.

TiBGL: Template-induced Brain Graph Learning for Functional Neuroimaging Analysis

In recent years, functional magnetic resonance imaging has emerged as a powerful tool for investigating the human brain's functional connectivity networks. Related studies demonstrate that functional connectivity networks in the human brain can help to improve the efficiency of diagnosing neurological disorders. However, there still exist two challenges that limit the progress of functional neuroimaging. Firstly, there exists an abundance of noise and redundant information in functional connectivity data, resulting in poor performance. Secondly, existing brain network models have tended to prioritize either classification performance or the interpretation of neuroscience findings behind the learned models. To deal with these challenges, this paper proposes a novel brain graph learning framework called Template-induced Brain Graph Learning (TiBGL), which has both discriminative and interpretable abilities. Motivated by the related medical findings on functional connectivites, TiBGL proposes template-induced brain graph learning to extract template brain graphs for all groups. The template graph can be regarded as an augmentation process on brain networks that removes noise information and highlights important connectivity patterns. To simultaneously support the tasks of discrimination and interpretation, TiBGL further develops template-induced convolutional neural network and template-induced brain interpretation analysis. Especially, the former fuses rich information from brain graphs and template brain graphs for brain disorder tasks, and the latter can provide insightful connectivity patterns related to brain disorders based on template brain graphs. Experimental results on three real-world datasets show that the proposed TiBGL can achieve superior performance compared with nine state-of-the-art methods and keep coherent with neuroscience findings in recent literatures.
