The effect of deconfinement phase transition on rotochemical deviations in stars containing mixed phase matter

As a neutron star spins down, its core density increase, changing the relative equilibrium concentration, and causing deconfinement phase transition as well. hadron matter are converted into quark matter in the interior, which enhances the deviation of chemical equilibrium state. We study such deviations and its chemical energy release.Applying to the simulation of cooling neutron stars, we find the surface effective temperature of neutron stars is promoted obviously. This implies that the deconfinement phase transition is able to raise the chemical heating efficiency.

Spike Onset Dynamics and Response Speed in Neuronal Populations

Recent studies of cortical neurons driven by fluctuating currents revealed cutoff frequencies for action potential encoding of several hundred Hz. Theoretical studies of biophysical neuron models have predicted a much lower cutoff frequency of the order of average firing rate or the inverse membrane time constant. The biophysical origin of the observed high cutoff frequencies is thus not well understood. Here we introduce a neuron model with dynamical action potential generation, in which the linear response can be analytically calculated for uncorrelated synaptic noise. We find that the cutoff frequencies increase to very large values when the time scale of action potential initiation becomes short.

Truly Random Number Generation Based on Measurement of Phase Noise of Laser

We present a simple approach to realize truly random number generation based on measurement of the phase noise of a single mode vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL). The true randomness of the quantum phase noise originates from the spontaneous emission of photons and the random bit generation rate is ultimately limited only by the laser linewidth. With the final bit generation rate of 20 Mbit/s, the physically guaranteed truly random bit sequence passes the three standard random tests. Moreover, for the first time, a {\it continuously} generated random bit sequence up to 14 Gbit is verified by two additional criteria for its true randomness.

A bias free true random number generator

We propose a new approach to nondeterministic random number generation. In theory, the randomness originated from the uncorrelated nature of consecutive laser pulses with Poissonian photon number distribution and that of the consecutive single photon detections is used to generate random bit. In experiment, von Neumann correction method is applied to extract the final random bit. This method is proved to be bias free in randomness generation, provided that the single photon detections are mutually independent, and further, it has the advantage in generation efficiency of random bits since no postprocessing is needed. A true random number generator based on this new method is realized and its randomness is guaranteed using three batteries of statistical tests.

D Wave Heavy Mesons

We first extract the binding energy $\bar Λ$ and decay constants of the D wave heavy meson doublets $(1^{-},2^{-})$ and $(2^{-},3^{-})$ with QCD sum rule in the leading order of heavy quark effective theory. Then we study their pionic $(π, K, η)$ couplings using the light cone sum rule, from which the parameter $\bar Λ$ can also be extracted. We then calculate the pionic decay widths of the strange/non-strange D wave heavy $D/B$ mesons and discuss the possible candidates for the D wave charm-strange mesons. Further experimental information, such as the ratio between $D_sη$ and $DK$ modes, will be very useful to distinguish various assignments for $D_{sJ}(2860, 2715)$.

Strong decays of $D_{sJ}(2317)$ and $D_{sJ}(2460)$

With the identification of ($D_{sJ}(2317), D_{sJ}(2460)$) as the ($0^+$, $1^+$) doublet in the heavy quark effective field theory, we derive the light cone QCD sum rule for the coupling of eta meson with $D_{sJ}(2317) D_s $ and $D_{sJ}(2460) D_s^{*} $. Through $η-π^0$ mixing we calculate their pionic decay widths, which are consistent with the experimental values (or upper limits). Combining the radiative decay widths derived by Colangelo, Fazio and Ozpineci in the same framework, we conclude that the decay patterns of $D_{sJ}(2317, 2460)$ strongly support their interpretation as ordinary $c \bar s$ mesons.
