Editable-DeepSC: Cross-Modal Editable Semantic Communication Systems

Different from data-oriented communication systems that primarily focus on how to accurately transmit every bit of data, task-oriented semantic communication systems only transmit the specific semantic information required by downstream tasks, strive to minimize the communication overhead and maintain competitive tasks execution performance in the presence of channel noise. However, it is worth noting that in many scenarios, the transmitted semantic information needs to be dynamically modified according to the users' preferences in a conversational and interactive way, which few existing works take into consideration. In this paper, we propose a novel cross-modal editable semantic communication system, named Editable-DeepSC, to tackle this challenge. By utilizing inversion methods based on StyleGAN priors, Editable-DeepSC takes cross-modal text-image pairs as the inputs and transmits the edited information of images based on textual instructions. Extensive numerical results demonstrate that our proposed Editable-DeepSC can achieve remarkable editing effects and transmission efficiency under the perturbations of channel noise, outperforming existing data-oriented communication methods.

Features of a nano-twist phase in the nanolayered Ti3AlC2 MAX phase

Complex intermetallic materials known as MAX phases exhibit exceptional properties from both metals and ceramics, largely thanks to their nanolayered structure. With high-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy supported by atomistic modelling, we reveal atomic features of a nano-twist phase in the nanolayered \MAX. The rotated hexagonal single-crystal is encompassed within basal symmetric twist interfaces similar to grain boundaries. In particular, we show that air-oxidation at \SI{1000}{\celsius} can form a twisted phase that leads to the formation of interfacial dislocation networks with screw characters or to severe interfacial reconstructions. Additionally, we explore the contribution of disclinations to the representation by continuum models of the stress field generated by such nano-twist defect in the \MAX{} bulk phase. The occurrence of this unexpected defect is expected to impact the physical response of this nanolayered-based material as such supports property-by-design approaches.

Mcity Data Collection for Automated Vehicles Study

The main goal of this paper is to introduce the data collection effort at Mcity targeting automated vehicle development. We captured a comprehensive set of data from a set of perception sensors (Lidars, Radars, Cameras) as well as vehicle steering/brake/throttle inputs and an RTK unit. Two in-cabin cameras record the human driver's behaviors for possible future use. The naturalistic driving on selected open roads is recorded at different time of day and weather conditions. We also perform designed choreography data collection inside the Mcity test facility focusing on vehicle to vehicle, and vehicle to vulnerable road user interactions which is quite unique among existing open-source datasets. The vehicle platform, data content, tags/labels, and selected analysis results are shown in this paper.
