Relative Entropy-Based Waveform Optimization for Rician Target Detection with Dual-Function Radar Communication Systems

In this paper, we consider waveform design for dualfunction radar-communication systems based on multiple-inputmultiple-out arrays. To achieve better Rician target detection performance, we use the relative entropy associated with the formulated detection problem as the design metric. We also impose a multiuser interference energy constraint on the waveforms to ensure the achievable sum-rate of the communications. Two algorithms are presented to tackle the nonlinear non-convex waveform design problem. In the first algorithm, we derive a quadratic function to minorize the objective function. To tackle the quadratically constrained quadratic programming problem at each iteration, a semidefinite relaxation approach followed by a rank-one decomposition procedure and an efficient alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) are proposed, respectively. In the second algorithm, we present a novel ADMM algorithm to tackle the optimization problem and employ an efficient minorization-maximization approach in the inner loop of the ADMM algorithm. Numerical results demonstrate the superiority of both algorithms. Moreover, the presented algorithms can be extended to synthesize peak-to-average-power ratio constrained waveforms, which allows the radio frequency amplifier to operate at an increased efficiency.

Constant-Modulus Waveform Design for Dual-Function Radar-Communication Systems in the Presence of Clutter

We investigate the constant-modulus (CM) waveform design for dual-function radar communication systems in the presence of clutter. To minimize the interference power and enhance the target acquisition performance, we use the signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio as the design metric. In addition, to ensure the quality of the service for each communication user, we enforce a constraint on the synthesis error of every communication signals. An iterative algorithm, which is based on cyclic optimization, Dinkinbach's transform, and alternating direction of method of multipliers, is proposed to tackle the encountered non-convex optimization problem.Simulations illustrate that the CM waveforms synthesized by the proposed algorithm allow to suppress the clutter efficiently and control the synthesis error of communication signals to a low level.

Absolute frequency measurement of the 87Sr optical lattice clock at NTSC using International Atomic Time

We report the absolute frequency measurement of the 5s2 1S0-5s5p 3P0 transition in 87Sr optical lattice clock (Sr1) at National Time Service Center (NTSC). Its systematic frequency shifts are evaluated carefully with a total relative uncertainty of 5.1E10-17. The measured absolute frequency is 429 228 004 229 872.91(18) Hz with a relative uncertainty of 4.13E10-16, with reference to the ensemble of primary and secondary frequency standards published in the Circular T bulletin by BIPM through a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) link.

A Comprehensive Evaluation Framework for Deep Model Robustness

Deep neural networks (DNNs) have achieved remarkable performance across a wide range of applications, while they are vulnerable to adversarial examples, which motivates the evaluation and benchmark of model robustness. However, current evaluations usually use simple metrics to study the performance of defenses, which are far from understanding the limitation and weaknesses of these defense methods. Thus, most proposed defenses are quickly shown to be attacked successfully, which results in the ``arm race'' phenomenon between attack and defense. To mitigate this problem, we establish a model robustness evaluation framework containing 23 comprehensive and rigorous metrics, which consider two key perspectives of adversarial learning (i.e., data and model). Through neuron coverage and data imperceptibility, we use data-oriented metrics to measure the integrity of test examples; by delving into model structure and behavior, we exploit model-oriented metrics to further evaluate robustness in the adversarial setting. To fully demonstrate the effectiveness of our framework, we conduct large-scale experiments on multiple datasets including CIFAR-10, SVHN, and ImageNet using different models and defenses with our open-source platform. Overall, our paper provides a comprehensive evaluation framework, where researchers could conduct comprehensive and fast evaluations using the open-source toolkit, and the analytical results could inspire deeper understanding and further improvement to the model robustness.

Evolutionary Programmer: Autonomously Creating Path Planning Programs based on Evolutionary Algorithms

Evolutionary algorithms are wildly used in unmanned aerial vehicle path planning for their flexibility and effectiveness. Nevertheless, they are so sensitive to the change of environment that can't adapt to all scenarios. Due to this drawback, the previously successful planner frequently fail in a new scene. In this paper, a first-of-its-kind machine learning method named Evolutionary Programmer is proposed to solve this problem. Concretely, the most commonly used Evolutionary Algorithms are decomposed into a series of operators, which constitute the operator library of the system. The new method recompose the operators to a integrated planner, thus, the most suitable operators can be selected for adapting to the changing circumstances. Different from normal machine programmers, this method focuses on a specific task with high-level integrated instructions and thus alleviate the problem of huge search space caused by the briefness of instructions. On this basis, a 64-bit sequence is presented to represent path planner and then evolved with the modified Genetic Algorithm. Finally, the most suitable planner is created by utilizing the information of the previous planner and various randomly generated ones.

HeteroMed: Heterogeneous Information Network for Medical Diagnosis

With the recent availability of Electronic Health Records (EHR) and great opportunities they offer for advancing medical informatics, there has been growing interest in mining EHR for improving quality of care. Disease diagnosis due to its sensitive nature, huge costs of error, and complexity has become an increasingly important focus of research in past years. Existing studies model EHR by capturing co-occurrence of clinical events to learn their latent embeddings. However, relations among clinical events carry various semantics and contribute differently to disease diagnosis which gives precedence to a more advanced modeling of heterogeneous data types and relations in EHR data than existing solutions. To address these issues, we represent how high-dimensional EHR data and its rich relationships can be suitably translated into HeteroMed, a heterogeneous information network for robust medical diagnosis. Our modeling approach allows for straightforward handling of missing values and heterogeneity of data. HeteroMed exploits metapaths to capture higher level and semantically important relations contributing to disease diagnosis. Furthermore, it employs a joint embedding framework to tailor clinical event representations to the disease diagnosis goal. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to use Heterogeneous Information Network for modeling clinical data and disease diagnosis. Experimental results of our study show superior performance of HeteroMed compared to prior methods in prediction of exact diagnosis codes and general disease cohorts. Moreover, HeteroMed outperforms baseline models in capturing similarities of clinical events which are examined qualitatively through case studies.

Predicting Bugs' Components via Mining Bug Reports

The number of bug reports in complex software increases dramatically. Now bugs are triaged manually, bug triage or assignment is a labor-intensive and time-consuming task. Without knowledge about the structure of the software, testers often specify the component of a new bug wrongly. Meanwhile, it is difficult for triagers to determine the component of the bug only by its description. We dig out the components of 28,829 bugs in Eclipse bug project have been specified wrongly and modified at least once. It results in these bugs have to be reassigned and delays the process of bug fixing. The average time of fixing wrongly-specified bugs is longer than that of correctly-specified ones. In order to solve the problem automatically, we use historical fixed bug reports as training corpus and build classifiers based on support vector machines and Naïve Bayes to predict the component of a new bug. The best prediction accuracy reaches up to 81.21% on our validation corpus of Eclipse project. Averagely our predictive model can save about 54.3 days for triagers and developers to repair a bug.
